This supermarket is one of the few options in the Washington Heights area frequented by students of Columbia Medical Center such as myself. They do have lots of options in terms of fresh fruits and veggies, but the prices are pretty steep compared to Trader Joes. I only come here if I don't have the time make the trek down south for Trader Joes. I have bought eggs, veggies, frozen waffles and veggies, cheese, and bagels here but the meat looks a little sus so I avoid. The staff can be nice or dismissive depending on who you get. Also the escalators to go up and down sometimes creak a little and that scares me lol It's only redeeming quality is its proximity to the medical center. I was pleasantly surprised! A lot of the grocery stores uptown are cluttered and the produce is sub par, I walked into this store and was greeted by the neatest most pristinely shelved fresh produce I've seen uptown. Both levels are very well stocked and well kept and I'm happy that this store is the go to for my new home. The seafood section looked very fresh as well, can't wait to try next time! read more

I've been searching for a new grocery store since my beloved Fairway closed a few weeks ago (I live in Hamilton Heights about 20 blocks south of Washington Heights)... the Key Food and C-town nearer to me on Broadway are both horrible, cramped and just unacceptable. Someone in my building mentioned this Super Foodtown, so I went to check it out today and was pleasantly surprised! The selection met most if not all of my needs (organic options, lots of good cheeses, environmentally-friendly cleaning supplies)... the layout does seem to be a bit chaotic to me, but I'm guessing it's just a question of getting used to it. A place where they a good selection of groceries but their logistic are outright hazardous. I have been grocery shopping two Saturdays in a row and the escalators have been out of Order. Before that was the elevators, which in turn had to use the freight elevators which would make any one nauseous of the strong odour of meat. Well as I was shopping today I decided to go up the still escalator that was not blocked off since their elevators were never coming to go to the 2nd floor to get other groceries. This is when I tripped badly on the escalators and bludgeon the fingers of my left hand as they hit the teeth of the escalators as I was falling. I slowly made my way up as a store clerk just watched with nonchalance and kept doing his duties. The manager, instead of coming up the escalators to assist me just yelled from downstairs if I was ok , which I replied no I'm not and they should do something about their escalators. He just walked away. Then I saw him again as I was making the queue and again offered no apologies. You need to get this fixed otherwise you'll have a major liability lawsuit in your hands. I'm contemplating calling my lawyer. read more

The most expensive mediocre groceries I've ever seen. A head of iceberg lettuce $5. You have to get an extension on your credit card to afford the strawberries. Also they never hade the correct prices in the register. And to top it all off they're running the re-usable shopping bag scam. When the law went into effect it was envisioned you bring your own bag or buy either a five cent paper shopping bag (like trader joe or whole food) or purchase a more expensive re-usable bag. Well at Super FoodTown they did away with the options and only have the $1 bags. Which may or may not break the bag law. So better save up before you go to this place. read more

Location is the only positive about this store. They are over priced, limited on stock, and never friendly. I have gone to this store only because it's the only grocery store close by but the drive out of town is worth it. The staff is often unhappy and cranky. Maureen, an older cashier, seems to take her "authority" to the next level. Twice now she has been rude to me. For people saying it is over priced. I moved to the area from Texas... Texas y'all! That means, I am not used to paying 6-7$ dollars for cereal. This is the first store I've visited in the area in which I found a can of tuna for $1.50, even near by C-Town location doesn't compare. Trust me, Ive compared prices on meat, produce and products. The quality is closest to the best you'll get in the area. I appreciate that they are open late, the store is clean and always stocked. Okay so if you live in the neighborhood you already know that there is limited choice when it comes to grocery shopping within walking distance to your home. The variety at SFT is actually pretty decent, they have a wide selection of organics (both packaged and fresh produce), vegetarian and vegan products and non-gmo snacks - great, right!? The biggest problem here is always stock level. They'll get something great, only for it to sell out and for it to never appear in the store again! I've spent many a day at work day-dreaming about what I might have for dinner, only to be disappointed when I get to Super Foodtown to find nothing I truly desire in sight. This spot is great when you last minute need some frozen peas, a bit of pasta sauce or an onion because you forgot that in your actual grocery shop. read more

Been a year since I came to this Foodtown. Still has good stock of food on various items. Workers are constantly restocking the shelves. Whatever they didn't have, the customer service took the items I'm interested in buying for them to have inventory, which is always good to know. I requested Sello Rojo pearl rice and they will be stocking it! Very friendly, polite and attentive staff from storestock, deli, customer service to cashier. Even though there are other supermarket closer to where I'm at, I rather schlep a few miles and shop here when needed, especially for the nice vibe from when you walk into the place, shop around and leave the store. read more

I didn't think there existed a supermarket large enough to get lost or even merely turned around in in NYC. I was wrong. After living in the city for 5 years and getting used to the HIGH grocery prices at places like Key Foods and C-Town, I figured I'd just be shopping in NJ. I was. Amazed. By this place. I filled my cart with everything I needed for Thanksgiving trimmings and regular weekly shopping and came out right at $50. It was so much stuff it almost overflowed the wheeled cart I brought (and I definitely forgot it was an uphill walk home...) I mean, I'd gotten used to going to stores with a list and being able to fill 2/3 of it. Getting everything with such a wide selection- it felt like the suburbs! Rotisserie, sushi, everything! I paid to travel here to do ten minutes of shopping at 11:40, needed some vegetables and eggs. At 11:48 all of the stores lights inside were turned off. I asked if I could still get eggs and was told they are closed. I asked if they close at 12:00 like the hours posted say, and was told the crew leaves the store at 12:00 so everything is closed early and I have to pay and leave. read more

I go to this Foodtown almost every day!! The staff is super friendly and the groceries are for the most part, fresh and in good shape. Sometimes the avocados will be on sale for 5 for $5 but most of them will be rotten. I've been luckily enough to find 5 ripe avocados for $5!!! The bakery has a bunch of great options and fresh bread baked daily. This food town has just about everything you need! It is slightly expensive than some other Foodtowns in NYC but it's by far the best grocery store that I've been to in nyc. Fresh meats, produce and dairy. I don't shop here as much. I do most of my shopping now on Amazon prime and Target. The new manager and some of the new employees need customer service training. Some of the employees are rude, lazy and lack basic math skills. I'm not surprised since you have a manager with some of the same attributes. As a manager he lacks experience. As a customer I should not have to explain things to him he should already have knowledge of. That's what he gets paid for. read more

Holy crapola, this place rocks the casbah. This place is TWO FLOORS cram packed with tons of food and deals, and not to mention SPACE to move around without someone slamming the back of their cart into your Achilles tendon and making you wish you stayed home. The produce here is a beautiful array to choose from, unlike some markets closer to me that seem to have almost everything half bad. They also have an amazing deli, PIZZA, hot/cold buffet area, huge beer/cider selection that will have something for everyone, and seem to have employees that stay on track of ensuring their shelves are stocked. Pristine store with so many awesome things to buy and try .. But also plenty of the stuff you need on the regular anyway! I literally couldn't believe my eyes when I walked in and saw two floors of amazing with variety for everything you can possibly think of. I thought they had just opened because everyone was being so attentive and stocking everything so regularly and going out of their way to find out if you need anything I really did think they just opened and we're trying to create loyal customers! Little did I know they've been open for like 6 months now. They have two floors including an area where you can actually eat items that you purchase if you would like. And there are plenty of options to purchase things to eat while you're there. I tried the sushi and it turns out they even have samples when you walk by to offer which entice me to actually purchase something. They also have amazing looking pizzas which I'll be trying next time. I also tried a sample of the curried chicken salad from the deli and it was amazing.... I'll definitely get that in the future. Apparently this Foodtown recently opened up in Washington Heights and it shows! Very clean, well organized and well stocked. The prices are great for NYC and it has a great selection of a lot of items. Lots of fresh produce and a great variety of meats and cuts. The cashiers are super friendly and quick with checking you out. It's never been crowded when I have gone (mostly late midday on a weekday) so makes for an easygoing shopping experience. Definitely will be my go to place for weekly grocery needs. read more

Finally! A clean, well lit and spacious grocery store uptown! Aisles are big enough for two people to be there at a time impressive! Prices are average, but they constantly have good specials going on. The employees, sooooo helpful, very friendly and make you feel like a guest in their business. Love it. This place is a breath of fresh air in this neighborhood! I am overall so happy to have a good grocery store in my neighborhood! I try to eat a very healthy diet, and I try to support buying organic and sustainably farmed foods as much as possible. I am so pleased to find so many healthy options here! I usually have to travel all the way down to Fairway on 125th street or Westerly market on 54th St. to get some of this stuff. They have a decent selection of organic produce, organic sprouts, organic soy products like tofu and tempeh, BPA free canned beans, frozen organic fruits and vegetables, green juice from blueprint and kombucha, a huge selection of Bob's red Mill grains including a big organic selection of grains. and all of this was at reasonable prices, sometimes cheaper than I've seen at other grocery stores. So overall, I feel like this is a great value too! Maybe it doesn't warrant a full five stars, but it's such an improvement on the grocery stores in this neighborhood that I am really excited. read more

The store doesn't look like much from its exterior, but inside it is clearly new, clean and well stocked. They have a produce department, bakery, deli and butcher, along with a good selection of beers. I almost didn't notice their second floor, but make sure you check it out-- much of the dairy and frozen food is kept up there. I got some meat from the deli and the man behind the counter offered me tons of samples- I basically got to try everything they stock. I had to ask staff for help a few times and they were always very pleasant and friendly. Overall, a solid grocery store. I will return. read more

Okay.... I've been living literally less than one block away for a year. I've come here several times a week since moving to the neighborhood. Generally; as a grocery store, it's fine. It serves a purpose. Now, I work in food service, consider myself understanding and forgiving, and am usually very good at just letting things go. I know people are impatient and customer service is hard. I get it. However, I was/am super pissed tonight. I ran there after getting home from work because I KNOW they close the deli at 9. I'm not new. However, when I got there at 8:15, there was ONE SUPER SLOW apparently BRAND NEW guy behind the counter? Please don't misunderstand, he was plenty nice. But nice is not enough, anymore. I'm done with this. I don't understand why it's okay for ONE dude to hold down the deli very poorly while his coworkers are behind closed doors 45 MINUTES+ before the deli even closes??????????? Then, all the things I wanted to order were sold out. Fine. So I chose something else, and it took almost 20 minutes to get 1LB of meat and 1LB of cheese. When I left the counter, I - LUCKILY - tried the "store made pepper" turkey before I cashed out, and it was slimy and inedible. I'm over it dude. I'm done. Other than the deli drama I deal with every single time I'm there, Foodtown is fine, but I think I'll start shopping at that new grocery store up the block. read more

Place is incredibly overpriced. A box of strawberries could run you $6-7. You can find cheaper produce at a Whole Foods in the UWS. Used to have a hospital employee discount of 10% but removed this while the COVID pandemic was still very much active. Unfortunately this poor management decision led to a large decrease in customer base with the hospital nearby. read more

Foodtown is generally very good and one of the best/cleanest/freshest grocery stores in upper manhattan. I just moved a few blocks from this location and have been here a few times. I only gripe I have with this location. I bought a container of cubed mixed cheese only to later discover it had mold on it. I brought it back to the store and spoke with the manager. He had an attitude and gave me a hard time because I didn't have my receipt even though it had the Foodtown deli sticker on it. Finally he rolled his eyes and said go get a new one. As I walked away he yelled "next time bring a receipt". Bad customer service from the manager no less. As I went to grab a new one, I found other containers on the shelf with mold on them. This place is awesome! It is exactly what Washington Heights was missing. The store has two floors and it has the widest selection you can expect to find at any supermarket in the area. Prior to this supermarket I was forced to hop and the train to find decent food that met my dietary restrictions. So the most important thing to me is the HUGE selection of gluten free food! I must add, customer service is also great! The other amazing thing about this place is the sushi. Yes, the sushi! I know it may sound a bit sketchy, but the sushi here is divine. The supermarket has it's own chef, so you can trust the sushi is being made fresh, by an expert. The chef is also super friendly and very customer service oriented. Constant profiling of customers in the area, I go and buy stuff here daily and everyday the security guard who I talk to and shout out for following me every time is there shadowing me, but not the real thieves in the establishment. After I moved to the neighborhood, I was really worried that my only options were the nearby C-Town and the Gristedes, both of which had underwhelming offerings at too-high prices. Thank goodness I found Super Foodtown - a ridiculous name for a fantastic grocery store. Huge selection, including lots of fresh, local, and prepared items. Importantly for me, they have tons of vegetarian and vegan foods in stock (some that I can typically only find at Whole Foods). GUYS. Super Foodtown is the best thing to happen to the neighborhood in quite some time. Finally, a grocery store with a big selection of fresh produce and a meat section where the meat isn't half-spoiled and all dripping meat juices on itself (looking at you, Key Foods). And the prices don't make you want to straight up punch someone (looking at you, Gristedes). They even have some bougie staples, like stations for you to grind your own peanut butter and coffee, and a sprawling selection of cheeses. After you've stuffed yourself with cheese and peanut butter, you might be looking to shave some calories, and BOOM -- a wall full of Halo Top ice cream. You start feeling bad for eating the semi-franken food that is Halo Top, and lo and behold -- another wall full of nourishing Bob's Red Mill products. You decide you don't actually feel that bad about eating franken-food, and HEY-O -- aisles of fun snack foods (have you ever tried coconut jerky? I hadn't either before discovering it at this wonderful gem of a grocery store). My point is, you can find everything you need, and also everything you don't need but will thoroughly enjoy, right here on 160th St. The service is great and the manager (who I swear is always working) has a frankly admirable amount of hustle in his heart. Your groceries will be bagged in no time flat. The best news of all? FREE DELIVERY. Aptly named, this place. It's Super, has Food, and when I walk in, I really go to Town. Rarely are they out of anything I've needed - in fact it's only happened once.
