The cashiers and staff are always sweet, professional, and straight to the point without forcing awkward conversation. Management is approachable, and the team is consistently kind. I wish I could shop here all the time, but the astronomical price markups across basic items make that impossible. It's been like this as far as I can remember dating back to well before 2016. I reached out in writing through their website form months ago to share this feedback directly, but I never received a response. I am posting publicly now hoping this review reaches the right people in leadership. I also strongly encourage other shoppers to speak up about these issues, because customer voices are often the only way real change happens. My primary concerns come down to pricing and severe quality control: -Astronomical Prices: The markups here are startling compared to other stores, especially on everyday staples like dairy, poultry, and even basic rice. Seeing non organic blueberries priced at $8.99 right in the middle of peak blueberry season is a prime example. These inflated prices keep inventory sitting on shelves far too long. -Specialty Cheeses: I have always relied on this store for their selection of cheeses for charcuterie boards and entertaining, and I am very knowledgeable about gourmet cheese. Over the last couple of months, nearly every special cheese I have purchased including Pecorino, Manchego, Gouda, and Cheddar has developed visible green or white mold that turns bright green after just one day in the fridge. Even cheese that is not expired or on special smells distinctly off right out of the package. The manager was very gracious when I brought a package back, but this points to a deeper inventory or temperature issue. -Floral Department: The flower quality has been equally disappointing. My loved one and I have purchased bouquets here over the past six months, and they collapse within a day or two. A recent bunch of sunflowers did not even last a few hours in an air conditioned room. It feels as though fading stems might be dyed to look deceptively fresh on the display floor. I remember decorative pumpkins were on sale here for nearly $30. When items like cheese and flowers spoil almost immediately, it naturally creates doubt about other perishable departments. How can shoppers trust the freshness of the poultry, or know that expired cheeses are not being repurposed in the hot foods section? Revisiting these price points would help move food out faster so we can depend on fresh stock. If you have noticed similar issues, please consider leaving a review or speaking with management as well so leadership takes this feedback seriously. I'm officially breaking up with Westside Market. After being a long-standing customer for years I have experienced too many disappointments and will be moving on to Whole Foods with a Prime membership. I was willing to look past the many expired fish incidents and the one food poisoning incident. (I will never again touch even a bite of tuna salad) I have no idea why, maybe because of my crazy dedication to loyalty. However, as a budding social working paying rent on the upper west side and working in a clinic, my budget is tight. I realize that after a year shopping at this location I am no longer able to afford to feed myself for even a week. I can get more of a bang for my buck elsewhere, and buy things that I really enjoy too. This doesn't mean that I will no longer come see my favorite people at the other location on 96th street for the world's best salads, I just won't be coming here. I'm not a fan of leaving negative reviews, but really needed to get this off of my chest. I wish things could be different and I wish this location the best but for now, I'll be going somewhere else. read more

Only negative was all the sandwiches and wraps were on white bread, I did not see a single thing on whole wheat bread. But the salad and vegetable choices were epic. Spacious inside and clean. They stopped carrying fresh bread in favor of a monopoly on their in-store baked Maria's brand. Well, while the price is right ($3.99) the taste and experience of biting into a crisp crust is lacking. This bread is cheaply made using Reddi Sponge Yeast that eliminates the time-consuming processes of proofing and initial rising out of the oven. The breads have no taste, they stay "fresh" for a very long time. I think that the operators have become greedy, the prices of everything in the store (except for the excellent cheese section) have gone way up. They are more expensive of many items than Whole Foods. Pity. I used to love this place. read more

I bought my Thanksgiving turkey and fixings from Westside Market, and everything was great!! They didn't have the size turkey that I wanted in the freezer shelf, so the manager went downstairs and found exactly what I wanted! When I brought my car to the front to load the groceries, another member of the staff brought my bags out and helped me load them into the car...and then he refused a tip! Everyone here is so kind, and they have a wide selection of produce! Very pleased!! read more

For a local market, Westside has a solid selection of produce, dairy (and dairy-free alternatives) products, and groceries. The store also boasts a deli with an above-average selection of sandwiches and hot food items, as well as a made-to-order salad bar. The pricing here seems to be middle of the road--you won't find many bargains, but prices aren't absurd either. While Westside Market won't ever be my go-to store for all my grocery needs, it's a perfect place to grab a bite to eat or pick up some produce while supporting a local business. read more

They have fresh cut up fruits. They also have fresh squeeze orange juice and grapefruit juice. Their smoothies and green juices are so good. Some friendly staff and I mainly go to the salad bar. The salads are really good. The staff Roland and Nairobi are very friendly and really good at making my salads. I feel like this store could do better with customer service and be more attentive. Some times I have to wait around for someone to acknowledge that they will assist me. They are also pricey for no reason. They can make the experience a little more enjoyable. read more

As a non-native Manhattanite I continue to be amazed by this place. First it's open 24 hours and always completely stocked! I'm an insomniac sometimes so going shopping in the wee hours is a real luxury. I have always found the produce section impressive - great variety. The prepared food is exceptional and great variety - from salads to pasta to sushi to hot food of the day. That they can fit that all in the space is cool. I note several people have comment d negatively about the staff. That has NOT been my experience! This is a crowded market that can get very busy during the day. The cashiers are all about being FAST. They are good at it - they really move the lines. Even when the store is very crowded you seldom have to wait long. Staff is just very business like helping to keep things moving. But if you need anything ASK. Every time I have needed help and asked the staff person was super nice, telling me exactly where to find things and sometimes going to get them for me. Its a busy crowded NYC market in expensive real estate - of course their prices will be higher than suburban Walmarts. But for your day to day grocery needs it's awesome. read more

This review is for the produce section. Disgusting. Rotting and browning fruit, cucumbers with mold on it, no one has a clue. There is a large staff, how can they let this be? Where's the pride? Where's the knowledgeable staff who understands when fruit is ripe or past it's prime? How about staff that can guide customers when looking for something and can understand why a crate full of brown soggy apples should be removed from the floor. Frightening also to think all the food behind the deli counter is selected and taken from that produce. It's springtime there should be amazing options for us now. This is supposed to be a top market. Go somewhere else until they decide to care about customer experience. read more

I've been here countless times when I lived nearby. Like other groceries in NYC, national brands can be 2 or 3 times as expensive as those in Walmart or Amazon pantry so I rarely buy them. Instead, I was addicted to their own fresh products. Salad bar: My favorite. Quick, simple and the price is reasonable. To me it is better than Sweetgreens or any other fancy salad spots. You just pick a bowl of green leaves(kale/mixed green/arugula/lettuce) then choose from a variety of toppings. LOVE the squash. Hot bar: Mashed potato, mashed sweet potato and honey salmon filets. I could eat these three everyday. One box=two meals=$15. Great value. You can also ask to try before you buy. Soup station: I am always skeptical about soups. The ingredients didn't look or taste fresh to me. Cold cut meat: Only had turkey which was good. Yogurt: Great selections but pricey. I only bought them when there was a sale. In the week I've been in New York, I've been to this market twice. For a relatively small market, it has a prolific cheese section and a wonderful display of produce. I was able to get everything I needed at Westside. Rather amazingly, they are open 24/7/365 - yep, even Christmas Day. So go there at 3am on a bank holiday and they are wide open. Their "pre-made" food section is what I honed in on. They have an assortment of cold items that range from potato salad to couscous. And they also have hot food section with everything from fried chicken to roasted vegetables. Each time I've been there the checkout section was organized chaos. It gets quite hectic and the line was long the two times I was there. I sleep easier knowing that Westside Market is there for me at 3am on Memorial Day. read more

I'm writing this review because after 10 minutes of wandering the store myself I couldn't find this specific chocolate brand. A cashier pointed me to the store manager who happened to be chatting with another customer. The manager was very friendly and he and two other employees tried helping me find it. After a quick search and still no luck they offered to call another location on my behalf but I told them it wasn't a big deal and went to check out. These wonderful people kept looking and found my chocolate before I left the store. I've been to 3 other markets and haven't found this chocolate or had this wonderful of customer service! This place has a fantastic large cheese department plus at a certain time of the day they offer free samples. I think that their cheese prices are pretty reasonable and normally offer manager specials on certain types of cheeses. They also have a decent selection of smoked fish, fresh pastas, large selection of prepared cooked foods. Some of their cooked foods are packed and refrigerated ready to go. They also have a variety of hot cooked food ready to be ordered for lunch, plus a sushi station, salad station, sandwich station, bakery station, plus more. This supermarket is really a one stop shop for residents in the area. It can get very crowded, to be expected because they have such a wide variety of food choices. I think I would be concerned if they weren't busy. I think one of my biggest and only gripe is when I buy a buttered bagel in the morning they use like 3/4 stick of butter. I literally can butter two more bagels with the amount butter that they put on one bagel. I find that they offer a lot of really nice fruit and vegetables but to me it's a bit pricey and it's not worth it for me to carry home anything that I can buy in my neighbor hood through the subway system. It really is a large supermarket but it's not close to home for me but its always interesting to come here to pick up lunch, or a couple of blocks of cheese to take home. read more

The Upper West side is an area jam packed with nice little markets that have a similar format. This includes having a huge produce section on the outside full of bright colored fruit that draws you in. The interior generally has nice wood shelves with a cheese section, organic sections, candy etc. It sounds like a typical supermarket, but somehow these stores manage to skirt that dividing line between say a Shop Rite and a smaller mom and pop type store. Westside Market is one such store. I've been to Westside in the morning and afternoon, and no matter how crowded it is, somehow the staff manages to keep the store clean and organized. During the afternoons you'll find tons of samples around including cheeses and pickles. Another rather distinctive area of this store is its the prepared foods section. Near the seafood area (where you can get sushi rolls), this area offers an amazing array of food from salads, to roast chickens, to ribs, soups and more. This is right next to the baked goods section which has everything from rolls to pre-prepared peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (which I found cute). Check out in this store varies in time. It can get very crowded and my primary criticism is that not a lot of room exists for lines to form, so it can get messy at peak times. I will say this, the staff works very hard and they don't bum around but instead drive to great everyone out in good time. This space issue is evidenced in some of the other aisles where you can't fit two people walking next to each other. This is perhaps my greatest criticism of the store. The prices in Westside are about the same as you'd find in any other store nearby. Nothing jumped out as particularly low or high, so you're not going to save tons of money here, but you're not going to break the bank either. My recommendation would be to drop by this place earlier in the day to avoid huge crowds, but at any time it's an attractive store to visit. read more

As others have noted this place can be kind of pricey but I go here mainly for the variety in the items of food you can find here and the fresh produce. Sure, C-Town or Met Food will probably have some things for cheaper but they won't have apples or oranges as fresh as at Westside Market. And they won't have super specific brands of foods like they do at Westside. Honestly, the only other place that is comparable to Westside in terms of fresh produce or variety of food items is Fairway. Granted, Fairway is cheaper but Westside Markets are usually located at a more central areas. But wholefoods is a bit pricey. Their baked goods are also pretty good for the price. read more

I think Westside Market is awesome. It is small, but is always packed to the gills with great groceries. Better quality than the average supermarket, but not so upscale that you feel priced out. They have a great selection of breads (all fresh), Bob's Red Mill products, amazing prepared foods, a good drink selection, local cheeses (great selection!) and dairy milks (including local, small dairy farm varieties!) and a huge variety of snacks and candies. The service is nice and I feel welcome while shopping. read more

Within this afternoon on June 13, 2020, during the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, and the two guys behind the deli counter we're not wearing their face coverings over their noses. So if any of those them happen to breathe on your lunch meat, and they happen to be carriers or asymptomatic, who knows? Really disappointed. Normally a good market, and they have been responsible But this really was a disappointment. Needless to say, I left the market without making a purchase. My corner bodega, about 157th and Broadway, they actually take it seriously and wear for facial coverings. If I was basing this review purely on the food here, I would give it 5 stars. However, the people here seem so unpleasant here all the time. The cashiers and salad makers never smile and are so sassy. However, the food here is always very good. I do all my grocery shopping here instead of Morton Williams since the prices and selection are better at Westside. I have never tried the prepared foods here but they do look pretty good. The salads here are SUPER GOOD. There are so many toppings options and I think the salads here are comparable or even better than Sweetgreen. The salads are also cheaper than those at Sweetgreen. I recommend coming here for grocery shopping but don't expect to be greeted with pleasant smiles and small talk by the employees. read more
