I've been a long-distance biker (50-100 mile) for years, and have struggled to find a solution for "hot foot" that generally starts after the 25-mile mark. I must have tried a dozen different solutions without success, but am THRILLED to say that custom insoles from Foot Dynamics seems to address the issue: I was able to do 70-mile rides twice this week with no issues - yippee! I broke my right leg in junior high and afterward, when I grew, my left leg got longer but my right leg didn't. I've been noticeably lopsided ever since. I'd always heard that it was bad for your back, hips, and other joints to be uneven, but I hadn't known what to do about it other than graft an extra inch onto my leg. Talking to my dad I found out that Foot Dynamics could help me figure out if I needed some orthopedic adjustments done to improve my overall alignment, so I made an appointment to see the team at Foot Dynamics. Just call--it's free to schedule an assessment, and they're happy to have you in. When I showed up, they warmly welcomed me and had me fill out a little information about my problem and what I was looking for. Then Janice, the podiatric specialist, sat down with me and looked at my feet and legs, measured this and that, checked out my posture, and gave me her information. She took time to talk to me, ask lots of questions, and then look for solutions. It turned out that a little bit of a lift in my right shoe makes a big difference in how it feels to walk. For $10 I purchased a set of lifts, which is a lot cheaper than surgery, and a little less painful too. I never felt pressured to buy anything, and Janice said I didn't need the lifts if I wanted to. The entire experience felt like it was about helping me, and not selling a product. I loved Janice's sense of humor. She also explained all sorts of shoes with me and helped me understand what zero rise, a wide toe box, thin or thick soles, and orthotics were. I left feeling like a sort of footwear guru. I didn't buy any shoes at the store because, frankly, many of them were kind of ugly. They do have a good variety, though, and a great number of running shoes. They also offer Danskos, Birkenstocks, Keens, and Earth Shoes, which are brands I'm familiar with and that do have footwear not so ugly that you can wear it in public. When I do need a new pair of shoes, I'll definitely be back here. Nice people, a fantastic service, and a great, welcoming vibe. It's places like these that make downtown Boise worth seeking out. In fact, if you park at a meter, they'll give you quarters and help feed it as long as you need to while you're shopping, so you don't have to hurry. How cool is that? Definitely make a trip here if you're an athlete of any kind, or you just wonder how your feet might make you happier. This place is a great hidden treasure in Boise. read more

I have one leg that is 3/8 inch longer than the other and I've struggled with heal lifts forever to try to keep my back from hurting. Dr. Jeff helped me with zero drop shoes plus he put discrete lifts in the soles so no more heel lifts plus the shoes are very comfortable and the alterations are almost invisible. My third visit to this store this week was much like the two previous....great array of good brands of comfort shoes BUT....do you employees not get what "customer service" is? Each time I've been in, I've left feeling like I was taking up their precious chatting time with each other. A customer should not have to "flag down" a so called foot expert for help. Especially since my husband and I were only customers in the store! From my previous experiences, these folks need retraining and personality implants. We stopped in today while visiting Boise. Although we had no real thought of buying anything their inventory piqued my curiosity so I looked around and was approached by Sarah, who was terrific in explaining all of the choices available and especially in how I might be able to best deal with a sore/worn out knee. After trying looking at different brands I settled on a pair of Altras and special insoles. We walked a lot today after making the purchase and the difference was immediately noticeable and positive. I'm giving the store a good rating for making standing behind their service. I went in asking about a solution to a problem in one foot and was encouraged to make an appointment for a free evaluation. At the appointment the representative proposed an orthotic that didn't make sense to me in that I didn't see how it was going to solve me particular problem. The rep insisted that it would so despite my misgivings and the expense I went along. At my fitting, I again expressed my reservations but the rep said I needed to try the orthotic for a while. I tried it 2x longer than suggested and called the store to say the orthotic didn't solve my problem, only fit in one pair of shoes even though it was supposed to fit in multiples and was causing other problems. They suggested that I meet with Jeff, who is an owner of the store. I did that and immediately agreed that the orthotic as built wasn't going to work. He wanted another chance to rework it but even after rework it wasn't going to address my problem and even if it did it would work in only one pair of shoes. Without hesitation Jeff refunded all but $30 of my money as per store policy. I think what happened is that the initial rep had a hammer in mind and decided my problem was a nail. It turns out the solution was to buy shoes with relatively stiff soles. Simple. It cost me a bunch of time over several appointments and $30 but everyone makes mistakes and any business that stands behind its service is worth recommending. read more

Really it's a zero stars. You people are so rude! You treated me and my wife like we were stupid when I told both sales people exactly what I was looking for??? I am almost 50 years old, I know what works and what doesn't in a shoe. Your products are nice but your sales people need to learn how to listen and help the customer. You bring out a mans style for my wife and then tell her it a woman, she shows you the box and you blame it on the new guy?? Whatever , people do makes mistakes I know but just fix it and don't be condescending . We will never return, you have lost a previous customer forever. read more

i would not recommend this store. i had my birkenstocks resoled at foot dynamics - a not inexpensive repair. but when foot dynamics was done with my shoes, they were unusable. i have been wearing birkenstocks for many years and understand how they are supposed to fit. however, the instep of my shoes ended up being grotesquely convex from the repair and, as a result, were extremely painful to wear. the person who repaired the shoes (who, if i am not mistaken, is also the owner of the store) was unreasonable about correcting the problem and generally very rude. i have bought other shoes from this store over the years. they have a nice selection of birkenstocks and other non-traditional footwear and i have never had a problem (unlike some other reviewers) with any of their other employees. i would certainly not use their repair service again, however, and would also be cautious about buying new shoes, as well, given their spotty customer service. read more

Staff was very helpful. I was trying to get some comfortable shoes for my husband who was leaving on a trip the next morning and was suffering foot pain. He was not able to come try them on but I explained what his needs were and the lady helping me was able to recommend shoes that worked perfectly. I was having with my feet hurting after short runs. I was recommended to Foot Dynamics, they were very patient with me, I made a appointment with Jeff, he talked with me to see what problem's I was having we agreed that orthodontics would help, and help they did. After a couple short runs everything felt good so I went on a 11.5 mile hill run, no foot pain, it was great. I would recommend Foot Dynamics to anyone with a foot problem they can help. It seems this store will do anything to lock in a sale, but will not stand by their six-figure product or fitting expertise. I specifically went into this store to support local business and get fitted for my Birkenstocks by an "expert". One month later, my $100+ sandals are falling apart and I was blamed for buying too small of a size despite the fact that I was specifically fitted by one of their employees for that particular size. Their suggestion? Glue it! It's a shame I won't be returning because I had such high hopes for this place. Next time I'll be purchasing my shoes at Nordstrom where they stand by their product and service. read more

I needed to have my Birkenstocks resoled because they were deteriorated. This was the only place I could find that would do it at a good price and was local. Their prices do seem a little high but the people are friendly and helpful. They were able to get my Birks to me repaired in the right amount of time and in good humor. read more
