They REALLY need to have fewer children, no infants, and refresh themselves on the current research on child development. For brevity's sake I'll just mention the biggest issues: They do not have the ability to devote the time and attention required for an infant, period. My child came home with *caked* spit up and milk on her face/clothes, and cheeks scratched from crying fits. Which means that she was being fed without being burped, and/or laid down too soon after feeding, as well as being left to cry. My daughter would be exhausted from crying, hungry and usually wet when she came home. My child rarely cries at home, but after her first day, I received texts daily that my child was crying and needed to be left to "cry it out" at home because she was crying an abnormal amount and was, according to Sabrina, manipulating her caretakers into holding her. I'm not from the "cry it out" generation, and I'm also pretty up to date on current child development research, another reason why it blows my mind that someone would think it appropriate to leave a 1.5 month old to cry. So I was bit offended at her suggesting my child was manipulative/spoiled. I also felt it was unprofessional that, when I went to pick her up, Sabrina jokingly suggested my child could "learn a thing or two" from another infant in her care who required less attention. But as a FTM, I checked myself and spoke to other moms, childcare workers, and even a friend w/a psychology background, which confirmed that it was inappropriate to employ CIO method with such a young infant. Newborns don't have the memory or cognitive capacity to consciously recognize that crying = being held, nor can they remember that the last time they cried, they were held. They simply feel a need, instinctively cry, and once that need is met, they stop. And one of their needs is touch/comfort. Some babies need it more than others, especially when they are exposed to unfamiliar people, routines and environments. I know that day care workers and even parents cannot hold their children all the time--but the narrative that an infant is just being a glutton for attention, verses perceiving a legitimate need, is just about as outdated as you can get, and less than I would expect from someone who schedules no less than 4 days off a year for "professional development." Speaking of days off, she schedules about 4 weeks off total a year, 2 of which are full straight weeks that don't fall on actual holidays. This is not including her sick days or potential bad weather days. On top of everything, she basically charges per hour--she advertises a price that only covers 8 hours. So if you work f/t, you will pay more than the price advertised. I feel bad that my daughter even spent a week there. I still remember the look in her eyes the last day I dropped her off there, it makes me sad, still. I pay only $20 more at a new daycare and receive infinitely superior care. The staff were surprised to learn she was considered "fussy" at another daycare. My baby comes home clean, happy and with a full tummy. I also receive a daily log, which provides a level of comfort and assurance sorely missing during my home day care experience at Kiddie Shack.

My child attended year ago, so I am speaking from first hand experience, however I have also had a lot of time to think about it and talk to other parents who used to have children there. The largest problem is supervision and the ages of children there. Infants are often left to play among toddlers that are several years older. Our infant often had chairs smash their hands and fingers (from older children picking up chairs and moving them around, bruises and cuts with no explanation, and consistent diaper rashes. Sabrina changes diapers on a schedule, twice a day. Not when a child needs to be changed. So if they soil themselves right after a changing, they will sit in it until the next one. At the time we were there Sabrina was assisted by her mother. Often, all the children were only supervised by one of them. This is more children than 1 person is allowed to watch by state standards. Sabrina's own child is older, but stays home and has has many needs of his own. A friend of ours once went to get his child and found a 6 month old laying on the floor by himself, completely unattended (with the door unlocked) along with his child while Sabrina was across the house yelling at her own child. It is difficult to discuss concerns with Sabrina, as she gets extremely defensive. She insist that parents call ahead of time, and gets very upset if you drop in un-announced. I found that to be unacceptable, as I should have access to my own child at anytime. I don't know how Kiddie Shack compares to other in home daycares as this experience drove me to pay a little extra and move my child to an actual school. My child has flourished there and is much happier. My child always has 2 teachers with their class of 12 at all times, there are cameras where I can log in at any time to check, and it is very telling that I have discovered FIVE(!) parents there who all used to be at Kiddie Shack and left due to the conditions. Sometimes I honestly feel guilty the my kid was in that environment. I am so much happier at our new daycare and my child has flourished so quickly that I actually go through guilt for putting my child in Kiddie Shack just to save some money. And that was really the only reason we chose them. The shock of the cost of daycare to a new family led to me to trying to save every dollar I could. Some things are worth a little money. My child is definitely one of them. Not only is my child healthier now, but my child is much smarter as the daycare schools (that seriously only cost like $20 more a month) actually have curriculums that are consistent. Do yourself a favor and at least tour a place like that after you tour Kiddie Shack. Then ask your gut how it feels.

The reason being that PARENTS HAVE THE RIGHT TO KNOW AND DESERVE TO KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT YOUR FACILITY! My daughter started here over 4 years ago and I had a very pleasant experience until this last year or so. I knew the place had gone down hill after the new owners took over, but I was unaware of just how badly. The staff there is completely negligent and can't be bothered with properly taking care of the children they're suppose to be supervising. The staff keeps quitting and they seem to keep hiring younger and younger employees that talk rudely to the children. I've heard and seen the staff yell at kids and tell them to shut up. I've walked in on teachers allowing the kids to use YouTube and watch inappropriate videos such as The Muffin Song, for example. This last month or so my daughter kept telling me about so many things that were going on there and how the teachers don't care. Some were happening to her and some to other children. Children would physically and verbally bully other kids and staff would not intervene. This happened to my daughter and she had to physically defend herself more than once. I would address my concerns with Mrs. Beverly, the director, and I didn't feel heard or satisfied that my complaint would be thoroughly looked into. The last straw for me was another child making sexual comments towards my daughter and another young girl. Then a few days later I was alerted that breakfast was not being provided to my child before being taken to school and that the daycare has forgotten to pick her up from school more than once, which they did not inform me of. When I addressed this with the office I knew nothing would come of my complaint and I made the decision then to begin looking for another daycare and remove my daughter from a place I no longer felt was safe. While I was in the process of finding another daycare I went onto the Texas Health and Human Services website and looked into Oak Leaf. I was shocked to find out that since the new owners have taken over they've had 69 violations since 10/25/2017 and as recent as a few months ago! Everything from hiring employees without completing background checks, not providing water to children, one staff member actually hit a child, unsupervised children outside, staff not aware of how many kids they have in their classrooms, releasing a child to an adult without verifying their ID to see if they were approved to do so which the person was not authorized to do, a child outside with no clothing and unsupervised, leaving cleaning chemicals in places easily accessible to the kids, staff allowing kids to physically fight, and so many more! It's all there on the Texas Health and Human Services website. So, if you don't take my word for it, look it up for yourself and see it with your own eyes. This is place is unsuitable to care for children. DO NOT trust them with your precious babies. When the owner found out I was transferring my daughter she actually called me to ask why. I explained to her everything I was concerned about and brought up everything I'm writing in this review. She tried to justify all the violations and made statements like "it's not what it looks like" and "it didn't happen the way the state inspectors wrote in their reports". To me, that is unacceptable to try to shift blame and not accept responsibility for the things that are clearly going on in their facility. The only positive thing left there is Mrs. Cheryl. My…read more2-year-old has come home with more unexplained injuries in the last few weeks than in our entire two years here. These wounds are often not treated properly, and there have been multiple times where no incident report was filed -- and neither my husband nor I were informed by staff. The assistant director, Vanessa Ortiz, has extremely poor communication skills. It often takes more than a full school day to get a response to emails about serious issues like injuries. When we've tried to address concerns in person, we're met with excuses, not answers -- and certainly no sense of urgency. Also, if you have an issue and ask for the teacher's names (since we don't know their names due to so much turn over), don't expect to get them without the director reaching higher above her and then telling you to reach out to the area or regional director :) Shockingly, some teachers have even stepped in during conversations with other staff and *yelled* at us while trying to defend one another. The stories we're told rarely add up, and it feels like there's a serious lack of transparency and accountability. Supervision in the classrooms is clearly lacking, and poor communication seems to be used as a cover-up rather than a fix. There has also been an alarming amount of turnover among staff and students in just the last two months alone. That said, I want to give a huge shoutout to Mrs. Margie, Mrs. Wanda, and Ms. Jasmine. These amazing ladies are the only reason we're waiting until summer to pull our son. We truly appreciate the love and care you show our baby -- thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

I've witnessed caregivers being very rough with the children , including my own , when she was changing his diaper and didn't realize I was standing outside the window , she throw up down very aggressively and changed his diaper rough. I convinced myself I was being paranoid because he's my "baby" but i wasn't. As mothers we have intuition and we have to trust it. Mother to mother, find another daycare, there's tons of other options within miles. I will also try to upload the photo of my sons injuries and the email I sent addressing this matter.

I love that parents have to go through 3 passcode protected places to get into the facility: once to get into the parking garage if you go that route, once on the external door of the daycare, and once more after you've checked your little ones in with your fingerprint. Other daycares make you wait upfront and they go get your kid....not a fan. I like the built in accountability that places on staff. If a parent can walk in at any moment, staff really have to be fully aware of every action taken and word spoken. I have an infant and a preschooler who both love it. There are set schedules for each class and my infant has gotten super strong from all the tummy time she gets. She loves being around the other babies and they grin and giggle when they get to bounce up and down on their bouncers together. The staff are wonderful and I haven't seen any turnover. Parents of infants, take note, there's pretty much always a waiting list. I've talked to several moms who put their little ones on the waiting list while they were still pregnant...but you might get lucky.

Mrs. Cadena has operated a registered in-home daycare for a while and she really knows how to take…read morecare of children. My daughter has learned her manners - 'please' and 'thank you' and to cover her mouth when she coughs. My daughter loves to wash her hands (courtesy of Mrs. C). The kids also get to do all kinds of hands-on activities. They've made salsa, pizza, dissected a fish and made a dragon. Every week, my daughter comes home with her artwork, including little books where she's practiced the letters, numbers and words of the week. The daycare consists of a built-out garage, although the children nap in bedrooms and play in the backyard, segregated into little areas for children of different ages to play. Whenever I arrive to pick up my daughter, her hair is always neat, she's in a fresh diaper and she is watching a cartoon with classical music appropriate for her age. Mrs. Cadena's husband helps her, and he is also good with the kids. He transports my daughter to and from half-day preschool. Neither of the care providers ever yell at the children or strike them. They use firm, but polite language to correct the kids, including manners like not interrupting when adults are speaking. Mrs. Cadena also accepted cloth diapers when my daughter was in diapers, and accepts cloth trainers while she's potty training. The only limiting factor is that the daycare is a wife and husband team without any other hired help. So when they have to do continued education and training to keep their license to operate, the daycare is closed. They close every spring break for a week (following the DISD calendar), the week of Thanksgiving, the last two weeks of the year (following the DISD winter break calendar), for two weeks in the summer and minor holidays, such as MLK Day, Flag Day, Veteran's Day, Presidents' Day, etc. To their credit, they take care of all of their health needs (doctor's appointments, eye exams, etc.) during these days, and they give as advanced of notice as possible. I recommend having a backup daycare for drop in care for those weeks and days they are closed. This is the reason I only give four stars. I was a bit surprised that Mrs. Cadena asked me to provide a stroller, playpen, and toys for my daughter when I enrolled her, but I appreciated it in the end so that I know exactly in what equipment my daughter is being cared. Later, Mrs. Cadena asked me to provide a pillow and blanket for nap times (when she was of age). Now she gets to play with myriad of puzzles that are on hand. Accepts cash only, no checks. Offers weekly and monthly rates. Also available for extended care and babysitting, with advance request. I recommend Mrs. Cadena for daycare for infants through preschoolers and for after-school care. I've tried other daycares when this one is closed, and they're just not as good. They're not insufficient, by any means, but Mrs. Cadena is the gold standard.
