In my opinion most families don't realize the importance of preschool in building a foundation for furthering your child's education but if you're looking for a school that will provide structure education play through learning as well as personal growth and discipline for your child you found the right place. I couldn't say anything other then enroll now! Within the first 10 days of the school year my just three-year-old learned the pledge allegiance of allegiance. Front end staffs are always greeting you with warm and friendly smiles, and in my surprise this is the first school that the staffs / owner open the door for you in the morning and closing during peak time pick up and drop off. I appreciate how Sharon the owner are very involved with the school, and how she cares for the kids. The money you paid, are in return back to your kids. I have never spend money on bringing in tissues or sipping cups for my child... oh did I mentioned, 3 of My kids are enrolled here! From toddler to private kindergarten, all the teachers are great! Since i have experienced with my infant teacher Ms Joyce, Michelle, and Sarah. My son preschool teacher Ms Phyllis and funny Ms Z are incredibly patient. Private kindergarten Ms Renfro strict yet I love her! The curriculum are outstanding and my kids have learned so much at expressing their thoughts and feelings... well maybe a bit too much :) I couldn't be any happier! This place can be stricter than most but learned to appreciate it as the kids are more ready for Elementary than other places can prepare them. The owners truly love their kids and try to incorporate all kinds of fun activities to make things have a different appeal. It definitely is an older place but I prefer that knowing it's been around a while and has good standing with the community. It was worth waiting for them to be available for my son. Teachers were very supportive, gave us suggestions and helped our sons development. The office staff knew our cars so they called our son as soon as I turn into the driveway and he was ready to come out when we park the car, we didn't wait to pick up our son. We enjoyed attending every events like the open school, grandparents day, and Christmas, not only to see my son but others growth. What we liked was their menu too, they had fish day. At face value you walk in and the school is full of character. No boring white walls. I mean there's a model train going around the ceiling by. Play grounds are well kept and there's even a splash pad. While this is not a Montessori school our girls have not only received a great education, the arts and craft creativity projects are endless. I will say this school is based in core Christianity beliefs so if that if that is an issue for you, this may not be your place. I can say nothing our girls have learned or repeated is offensive in anyway. Admin and staff- we have seen some turn over but have never had an issue with new teachers. Health and safety- the school is very good at communicating Health/ safety issues ( black outs, weather impacts , etc). They also routinely perform monthly evacuation and situational awareness. So bottom line no school or daycare will ever measure up to a parents expectations of care for their kids... but while there maybe some bumps here and there I still believe the staff at this school deserve endless margaritas and metals everyday of the week!

This daycare was highly recommended by friends and we were on the waitlist for quite a few months before we got in but it was worth the wait. It was also super affordable compared to other daycares. The only reason we left was due to distance, wish we could move it closer to our new home.

We moved to Forney, and switched my daughter to By the Barnyard Gate in Forney (owned by the same family). I wish I could say that I love Barnyard as much as I did Whistlestop! So many of the staff and teachers at Barnyard just don't seem to care or want to be there. I NEVER get updates about my child's day at Barnyard, but I got them daily at Whistlestop! Everyone took the time at Whistlestop to get to know me, my family, and my daughter at Whistlestop. Now, at Barnyard...I'm fairly certain no one except my daughter's actual teachers know either of us. In fact, every time someone different has been to pick her up (i.e, my Mom, Dad, mother in law, etc...) no one has bothered to ask them for any information. Thankfully, they are people that were on the list...but what if they weren't?! Needless to say, I wish we could go back to Whistlestop in Rowlett. (We'll be taking my daughter out of Barnyard very soon!) Whistlestop Station in Rowlett is a Phenomenal School!

So my daughter started at Pillars this Monday June 1st. Her 2nd day there which was Tuesday June…read more2nd, I sent my father up there to check on her around lunch time because she had listed off a few reasons for why she didn't have a good first day there. After my father got there and spoke to my daughter, he called me and told me that a little boy had punched my daughter before they went outside to play, and then while they were outside playing the same little boy kept teasing her and chasing her and also kicked her water bottle across the playground. I was surprised to hear this because I hadn't recieved a single call from anyone at Pillars about any of this happening. So I called up there and asked to speak to someone that was aware of what had happened, and after being on hold for 5 mins a lady got on the phone and told me she qould have to call me back and before I could say anything she hung up. About 5 mins later they called back, so again I asked to soeak to someone that was dealing with my daughter being punched, teased, and her water bottle being kicked around the playground and the lady said that she had talked to my daughter's teacher and they all were aware of what took place. So I asked her why I wasn't notified about any of this happening, and her response was " we normally only notify parents of a situation if the child gets hurt"... So I asked her how would she know how bad it hurt my daughter when the little boy punched her. After she realized how stupid she sounded, she then said "oh I misspoke, I meant to say that we normally only notify parents about a situation if the child is bleeding or gets bruised"... I dont know which statement was worse, but they are both bad, and most importantly wrong. I told her that just because my daughter was not bleeding, or whether she had a bruise or not, that none of that matters and they should have called me to inform me in at least a reasonable amount of time. But according to both of her answers, I highly doubt I would've ever gotten a call from them to notify me that a boy had punched my daughter, teased her, chased her, and kicked her water bottle across the playground. At this point I was frustrated, and honestly wasn't going to keep my daughter around "adults" that were this out of touch with reality, and around people that clearly didn't really seem to care. So I told her that my daughter would not be returning ever, and then she started to get an attitude with me and then she hung up on me. So to all of the parents out there considering leaving their child under the care and supervision of The Pillars Christian Learning Center, I would advise you to seek care elsewhere if your child's safety is important to you. This all happened within 2 days of being enrolled there, I can only imagine all of the negative things that would've continued to happen if I left my daughter at that poor excuse of a Christian daycare. I would trust my dog to look after my child before I would ever trust anyone at The Pillars Christian Learning Center.

She always greets my nephew by his name also other children as well again a very laid back non chaotic atmosphere. I also want to thank Ms. Bridget in the school age classroom. My niece's and nephew which are 7,6 & 5 never wants to leave. Thank you , both for being amazing teacher as there are far and few in-between good ones left. The reason being that PARENTS HAVE THE RIGHT TO KNOW AND DESERVE TO KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT YOUR FACILITY! My daughter started here over 4 years ago and I had a very pleasant experience until this last year or so. I knew the place had gone down hill after the new owners took over, but I was unaware of just how badly. The staff there is completely negligent and can't be bothered with properly taking care of the children they're suppose to be supervising. The staff keeps quitting and they seem to keep hiring younger and younger employees that talk rudely to the children. I've heard and seen the staff yell at kids and tell them to shut up. I've walked in on teachers allowing the kids to use YouTube and watch inappropriate videos such as The Muffin Song, for example. This last month or so my daughter kept telling me about so many things that were going on there and how the teachers don't care. Some were happening to her and some to other children. Children would physically and verbally bully other kids and staff would not intervene. This happened to my daughter and she had to physically defend herself more than once. I would address my concerns with Mrs. Beverly, the director, and I didn't feel heard or satisfied that my complaint would be thoroughly looked into. The last straw for me was another child making sexual comments towards my daughter and another young girl. Then a few days later I was alerted that breakfast was not being provided to my child before being taken to school and that the daycare has forgotten to pick her up from school more than once, which they did not inform me of. When I addressed this with the office I knew nothing would come of my complaint and I made the decision then to begin looking for another daycare and remove my daughter from a place I no longer felt was safe. While I was in the process of finding another daycare I went onto the Texas Health and Human Services website and looked into Oak Leaf. I was shocked to find out that since the new owners have taken over they've had 69 violations since 10/25/2017 and as recent as a few months ago! Everything from hiring employees without completing background checks, not providing water to children, one staff member actually hit a child, unsupervised children outside, staff not aware of how many kids they have in their classrooms, releasing a child to an adult without verifying their ID to see if they were approved to do so which the person was not authorized to do, a child outside with no clothing and unsupervised, leaving cleaning chemicals in places easily accessible to the kids, staff allowing kids to physically fight, and so many more! It's all there on the Texas Health and Human Services website. So, if you don't take my word for it, look it up for yourself and see it with your own eyes. This is place is unsuitable to care for children. DO NOT trust them with your precious babies. When the owner found out I was transferring my daughter she actually called me to ask why. I explained to her everything I was concerned about and brought up everything I'm writing in this review. She tried to justify all the violations and made statements like "it's not what it looks like" and "it didn't happen the way the state inspectors wrote in their reports". To me, that is unacceptable to try to shift blame and not accept responsibility for the things that are clearly going on in their facility. The only positive thing left there is Mrs. Cheryl. My…read more2-year-old has come home with more unexplained injuries in the last few weeks than in our entire two years here. These wounds are often not treated properly, and there have been multiple times where no incident report was filed -- and neither my husband nor I were informed by staff. The assistant director, Vanessa Ortiz, has extremely poor communication skills. It often takes more than a full school day to get a response to emails about serious issues like injuries. When we've tried to address concerns in person, we're met with excuses, not answers -- and certainly no sense of urgency. Also, if you have an issue and ask for the teacher's names (since we don't know their names due to so much turn over), don't expect to get them without the director reaching higher above her and then telling you to reach out to the area or regional director :) Shockingly, some teachers have even stepped in during conversations with other staff and *yelled* at us while trying to defend one another. The stories we're told rarely add up, and it feels like there's a serious lack of transparency and accountability. Supervision in the classrooms is clearly lacking, and poor communication seems to be used as a cover-up rather than a fix. There has also been an alarming amount of turnover among staff and students in just the last two months alone. That said, I want to give a huge shoutout to Mrs. Margie, Mrs. Wanda, and Ms. Jasmine. These amazing ladies are the only reason we're waiting until summer to pull our son. We truly appreciate the love and care you show our baby -- thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
