Her door is at the back of the Cobblery on Cal Ave so easy to get to but you have to know it's there!

I only needed it to be hemmed up at the bottom as I do with everything because I'm short and take the straps up at the top. Both these actions I could had hand sewn myself had I had the time but that is how simple the alternation was to give you an idea. I didn't think to ask how much it would cost because I've never paid more than $10 maybe $15 for something like this. When I showed up to get the dress, she charged me $40!!! To top it off, she said she had given me a special price!? I can't even imagine how much she was originally going to charge me! I live in San Francisco and I've had 3 pairs of jeans hemmed (keeping the original hem) and it never came to $40 bucks! The dress in question didn't even cost that much. Needless to say, I'm happy with the work but very upset at what I consider price gouging. I feel like if I had asked up front about the cost, it would had been significantly less and she took advantage of the fact that I didn't. Just be forewarned when you visit the shop or I suppose any shop that you ask how much it will cost or you will end up with a nicely fitted item that you paid 3x what it's actually worth.

I am petite so frequently need things hemmed and this business is 1/4 mile from my home. I called and Natalee didn't pick up but texted a VERY NICE text back a few hours later. PERFECT! except it wasn't. Natalee rents a 400 sq ft working studio on the 2nd floor, and appears to live there some/ all of the time. As others have described, I had to change in her very cramped/ cluttered living area next to her sofa and with her two cats circling. Bright windows were behind me. There was no mirror, as one would expect. As others have described, she stood behind a SHEER curtain but then WALKED IN while I was still changing . She didn't appear startled and didn't apologize as she looked me up and down while I tried to cover myself. I decided then that I had to get out. But to get out alive, I entertained a quote for the alteration - $250 including a rush fee because I wanted the dress back in 4 business days (6 calendar days). She told me that most of her clients are very wealthy Atherton socialites and that they prefer that she come to them, so she doesn't receive visitors often. She mentioned that Gavin Newsom (who lives 300 miles away) is a regular client and that the restaurant across the street has a contract with her (for what - hemming tablecloths?). I told her that the quoted price was higher than i had anticipated- to me the work was fairly simple. That's when she said that when I walked in, she could tell that I appeared to be someone on a budget (thx!) and that I probably got the dress on sale (thx again ). I thanked her, and then took my dress down the street where I had a much less creepy experience and was quoted $110. Natalee texted me later to say that she could tell I wasn't comfortable in her studio. And she is right about that! But if you love cats, and cat hair, and clutter, and dank odors, and deliberate CRIMINAL intrusions while you are undressed in a semi-open area, + insults, and 2x pricing, then Natalee is your perfect seamstress.

While I've seen Loro Piana products in-person, I've never had the pleasure of actually shopping at a store. I'm a frequent flyer at Louis Vuitton, CHANEL, and Hermès at Stanford, but I'd never visited Loro Piana. I visited on Saturday June 6 to see what was in-store (with no intent to purchase). I was greeted warmly by the doorman and allowed to walk around in peace. The store is carefully curated and beautiful. Client advisor, Sadaf, saw me eyeing the handbags and answered my questions. When I mentioned I was interested in ostrich, she said she had a sage green color at the store and she'd let me take a look. I fell in love and decided I needed it. I also ended up with a cute bag charm. I'm not a model size and I don't have the "look of luxe", so even though I have the money to spend I sometimes avoid stores because I feel like I may be treated differently. Loro Piana staff were all so kind, welcoming, and inclusive. I plan to return to purchase items for my husband for Father's Day. Thank you, Loro Piana!

I even grabbed some delicious Mexican food next door and even had time to get my nails done. The shop itself is adorable, and Lillyam speaks both Spanish and English, making communication easy. Her prices are very reasonable, especially for this area of the Bay. Most importantly, the quality of her work is excellent. While chatting with her, I learned that she has been altering clothing since she was 14 years old and has spent years helping support her family through her craft. Unless you have a design in mind that is very different, non-traditional, and nothing like a wedding dress you'd find in the store, I wouldn't recommend going to her. See photos. When I tried on the dress for the last time before taking it home, I pointed out to Victoria that there were some unflattering creases around the bust area. She just told me I need to stop slouching, so I arched my back & stood up straight as I could, which made the front appear smooth. However, during the wedding, I quickly forgot about keeping my shoulder blades pinched together... later on I was mortified when I saw the photos my relatives had took. Every single photo had the same unflattering flap in front of my chest. I get really bummed out now when I look at my wedding photos, which is so sad! If I'd have known it would turn out like this, I would have gone with a Davids' Bridal or a Jenny Yoo dress.....would have been way cheaper than what I paid too. Theater costumes, corsets, etc may be a completely different story, I can only speak for how she did with the wedding dress design I gave her.

My first piece with her was an Elizabethan gown. I provided the fabric and she sketched a design for me. We work long distance, but this certainly works out fine. I was thrilled with the end result, and continue to get compliments each time I wear the gown to events. The outfit consisted of a bodice, an overskirt, three sets of sleeves and two underskirts, and a hat. All of this was lined and trimmed with the trim I provided. All of this was done with only one fitting. My second piece is, so far, my favorite. I wanted a Victorian bustle gown for an event. I found the perfect fabric and sent it to Victoria, telling her..."go wild." I saw no sketches for it, and was excited to see what I would get back. Wow! What I got in return was an absolutely gorgeous gown that I couldn't even have imagined. When I wore it to the event, everyone went absolutely crazy for it. The attention to detail is amazing, from the knife pleating, to the hand-dyed lace, to the gorgeous glass buttons. This outfit was four pieces: a corset, a bodice, the skirt (and bustle pad), and a hat to match it all. The hat, might I add, is stunning. When I need another piece, she will definitely be the one to go to. I have seen other people in her work, as well as pictures, and the woman is simply a costuming goddess. Thank you, Victoria!
