Forage has moved to a big and nice place (rustic look). Unusual setting because it is on the second floor. They offer practically no parking but there were lots of open metered parking during my visit (on a weekday lunch). Service is still very nice and efficient (special shout-out to Dustin). And the food of course is still delicious. Have you ever longed to walk into the backyard of a great cook's home and simply able to mingle with local people for good food, feeling welcomed? Forage is the closest to your imagination. I am not a foodie. I don't really care about restaurant once I learned about the business long time ago. I never talked to restaurant people. I get it. Restaurants need to make money, and most of the time, they cut cost by sacrificing the quality of each ingredient. Cheaper egg, cheaper tomato, cheaper potato, cheaper steak meat and chicken... Well, at the end, every restaurant was my disappointment because I always wanted good ingredients. Food should be flavorful by itself without much seasoning. But those ingredients are usually channeled to fancy 5-star restaurants. And they are beyond my means. I can't afford to dress up and go to those top restaurants all the time. So I never looked to visit any restaurant for the past 20 years. We rather buy high quality vegetables, fruits and meat. Then we cook at home most of the time... Except when kids asked for something. So take-out foods were our routines for a long time... Until I stepped into Forage almost by accident for a friend's birthday party. The food at the dinner was memorable for me. We shared multiple dishes, and every single one of them broke my prejudice about the restaurant business. The food made from high quality ingredients. Menus are adjusted by season based on what's the best ones at that time. Light seasoning since every bite was of full flavor. I came back for breakfast this time. Breakfast menus are $19 and under, and every bite is a joy. My son and I tried breakfast burrito and Avocado toast. I feel nourished. Good ingredients with its own flavor, coming together in orchestra. Imagine you are at a fast food restaurant. Stuffing yourself up with 2000 calorie burger with fries and soda makes you feel bloated at the end. Empty calories. But the good quality food recharge your body when you need the rest and healing after a long week. I love the outdoor ambiance once I walk up to the 2nd floor where the restaurant is. It really feel like you are in the backyard of someone's home. Plus a large kitchen connected to backyard. You stand in line and order your food first. Then grab the number and take a seat where you want to seat. They bring the food for you. You go to mini pantry and grab your utensils, napkins, and cups of water to set up your own table. There's technically 4-car parking spots, but they are always full. So you have to park your car in the neighborhood and walk a little (0.1 mile at the most). read more

Still crunchy with a great slaw, clearly made in house. The burrata salad was on point with quality ingredients. Veggie quiche was interesting. If you like wearing beanies and acid wash jeans then this place is for you! I like a good room-temperature piece of salmon and random grains from the underside of a rock from Patagonia as much as the next hipster but I would say that this place is kinda slightly pricey and just a little pretentious. I will say that I haven't had anything here that wasn't good. But I also haven't had anything to write home about. As you can see in the pic I uploaded, I got a plateful (or two) of their pre-made items behind the glass case. Between the salmon, the broccoli, beets, and their toast with some sort of cream cheese with macadamia nuts, I would have to say that the toast was my favorite. Service-wise, I got pretty good service and was pleased to know that they give you refills on iced tea. A 3-star rating means I still like them but wouldn't go out of my way to really go there if I can help it. I came to Forage for dinner on a Saturday and ordered the salmon plate with fried potatoes and broccoli as my sides. While the salmon and broccoli were delicious, it was the potatoes that really blew me away. They were nice & crispy and seasoned so well that I found myself saying "wow" with every bite I took -- and I don't even normally like potatoes! The only downside, in terms of the food, was that several menu items were unavailable to order. I am guessing that they tend to run out of certain ingredients/items towards the end of the day or week. The restaurant itself is such a cute and cozy space (I sat indoors), and I would love to try coming here for brunch. Definitely the perfect spot for a date or girls' night out. read more

I absolutely love Forage! This place makes great seasonal food at a decent price and is perfect for groups. We came as a large group on a Saturday night and had no trouble finding a spot on the patio. You place your order at the register and then bring your number to your table. This makes it perfect for large groups so a single person doesn't get stuck with a huge bill. We all got the seasonal blood orange agua Fresca and it tasted so juicy and delicious! I had the salmon belly tacos and the salmon was so fresh and tender. Definitely would order again. I also got to try the roasted potatoes and Mac & cheese. The potatoes had a good flavor to them, but the Mac & cheese was on the plainer side. It definitely tasted like a "healthier" version but I'm ok with that. One thing I do think they're missing is music! While we were waiting for our meals to come out we really noticed how quiet it was on the patio. You don't realize how much background music at restaurants matters until it's taken away. It made every silence that much more awkward. I've had Forage bookmarked for a while and finally tried it today while my family was visiting and we were in Silverlake. It's a small casual restaurant with very homey vibes. They have a nice outdoor patio but it was a bit hot outside so we sat inside today. They also have a parking lot (although just a few spots) which is a plus. I got the Steak + sides plate and my mom got the salmon + sides plate. We shared the four sides and got the beet salad, barley salad, broccoli, and potatoes. Everything was delicious! The steak portion was quite small, however, but was very flavorful and cooked just right. I ended up ordering a 1/4 chicken on the side after finishing my steak and having the majority of my sides still left. The chicken was flavorful, but I did prefer the steak over the chicken; it would be great if the steak portions were larger. The beets, potatoes, and broccoli salad are a must; the broccoli was good but nothing special compared to the other sides. Yes, a little strange to have food sitting ready to be scooped without refrigeration. Reminds me of Whole Foods. But, then again maybe I'm wrong. The fried potatoes were cold as if they were refrigerated or had just been placed on the spot after being pulled from the fridge. Very tasty spuds in a sweet chili sauce that reminds me of the Thai fish dish called blaah laad prick. They would of been better hot, but I was hungry and wanted to try a new place. They should because they are so nutrient dense. Usually, I would only get all that in a salad if I would make it myself! Even different colored heirloom tomatoes, radishes, the bigger variety of plants you eat a week the more diverse and healthy your microbiome will be, and good produce has MUCH higher nutrients and everything they used looked rich in color and tastes great, also nothing wilted everything was springy (this is how I judge a salad by how springy is the lettuce ) I wish more places had amazing meals like this, the broccoli and veggies were all so flavorful, broccoli with an amazing fresh garlic flavor, Kale with feta, breadcrumbs & vinegarette, it definitely got me to eat more vegetables! I just think these are incredibly healthy and flavorful meals, and they are definitely worth getting, and exciting for a health nut! It was dinner with friends night. This place was a great choice! What I love is you order pay for your own meal and then sit with your number and your food is delivered. This made for quick easy dinner service. One would think this would lead to lackluster service but the service was great. The restaurant is beautiful. It has a lovely outside dining but on the night we went there would be no chance of that has it was freezing. A couple of concerns, parking is trash. But it's silverlake so there's that. Also, I'm not quite sure how this restaurant services those with mobility issues. There are several steps to the front door but I saw no elevator service. When I say several steps I mean more than the average restaurant as it's sort of on a hill. Now for the food. I had the salmon with two sides. I chose the broccoli and the roasted potatoes. Sadly my salmon was cooked a little to long for my taste. It was a thinner slice of fish and it was a bit dry. All of that was saved by the absolutely remarkable roasted potatoes. These were THEE best potatoes I've ever had. They were full of rich garlic and umami flavor. O would return for those potatoes time and time again. All and all a great choice! read more

Below is what we got: Flatiron Steak w Chimicurri - 2 1/2 Stars. The meat was extremely rough, lacked flavor, and was a tiny 4oz portion. Side of Broccoli - 3 Stars. Extremely spicy (without warning), soggy, and not that tasty at all. Macaroni & Cheese - 4 Stars. The best thing that arrived, but still on the bland side and needed quite a bit of seasoning. There seems to be no shortage of tiny neighborhood cafes that attract a larger crowd than they seat, nowadays; especially in trendy areas like Silverlake & Los Feliz. Oftentimes, they have a theme, whether it's farm-to-table, all-organic menus, or bomb fried chicken & waffles. Other times, I'm not really sure why a place is so popular. Forage is one such place. Sure, the flavors pop pretty well in your mouth and the ingredients look fairly fresh, but I'm having a hard time placing why it's so sought after. It smelled very strongly of salmon when I was there, so if you don't like seafood, keep that in mind. I only tried their "Spicy" Fried Chicken sandwich; and when I say "spicy," I mean that it's more smoky than anything. The chipotle offers a very strong flavor. Overall, it's not very memorable, and it's definitely not the best you'll find in LA, but if strong flavor is what you want, go for it. They're also known for their Adobo Chicken Bowl with crispy chicken, rice, and slow-cooked egg. What I saw most people ordering, however, were the mashed potatoes and greens that were being kept warm behind the glass- the brussel sprouts did look pretty tasty. While modest, the menu does offer you a lot of variety, from build-your-own plate to chicken a la carte. The service ranged from friendly to "completely ignore you," so don't expect too much on your visit. Overall, it was a pretty forgettable meal, but if you happen to be in the area and want to try something new, you might find something that appeals. Good luck! read more
