They only have a hose A/C in the corner that didn't do much to cool the place down. The food though was amazing! As 2 vegetarians and 1 vegan, we had never seen such an extensive plant based option with not only vegan cheeses but meat substitutes with protein! No wonder they have been ranked #1 for multiple years. The starter bread came in a brown bag and was soft and delicious, especially with the house pesto. You could really taste the basil but it didnt feel too oily. We got the calamari because none of us have ever seen a vegan one on a menu! It was breaded and fried and had a squishy center made of pea protein that I guess simulates the real one? It came with a marinara dipping sauce. I could obly have a few because they were fried and I felt like they were a bit too salty Next the pastas came out - the Pistachio pesto and the fusili with sausage. Both were delicious. The pesto sauce was the same one we had with the bread but the pasta had Pistachio chunks in it as well and generous amounts of pesto. The sausage was chewy and the sauce must've had either the same seasoning or chunks of it blended in because you could taste the same flavor in that as well! We had hopes of trying dessert but these 3 dishes were a perfect size for our party and we had been starving ourselves for most of the day for this (probably due to all the protein included in a usually carb only meal). Really enjoyed our dinner at Civico 2064. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with a warm, inviting atmosphere, and I especially appreciated the low noise level--it made for such a relaxed and enjoyable evening. Service was great, and the wine pairings complemented the meal really well. We started with the calamari and tuna crudo. Both were good, although the crudo could have used a little more brightness and acidity--some extra citrus or lemon would have really elevated it. For pasta, the gnocchi was great, but the Pappardelle Brasato was outstanding and easily one of the highlights of the meal. And then there was the tiramisu--absolutely outstanding. Honestly, one of the best tiramisus I've ever had. I would come back for that alone. Overall, the food was very good, with a couple of standout dishes rather than everything completely blowing us away. We were so excited to eat here because of the reviews, but sadly disappointed with the service. The gentleman working the evening of our visit was basically an order taker, something you would expect from a donut shop or bakery. No welcoming greeting at the table. No introductions. Just sat us down, put menus on the table and asked if we wanted still or sparkling water. Came back, took our order and delivered our food like a robot. Didn't check on us to see if everything was alright. Didn't ask if we needed more water. And the bus person had to ask us if we wanted any to go containers that WE had to pack ourselves. When it came to the check, I had to ask the bus person. He came over with the credit card machine and stood there waiting for me to input a tip. I was so mad, I wanted to leave a big donut because of the service, but that would be unfair to the other workers that get partial tips. So I left the minimum option on the credit card machine. Asked for my receipt and walked out. I literally waited at least 5 seconds at the door so he or someone else could say "thank you". But received nothing and I said thank you to him and the other workers in the open kitchen. The food was good but not great. The calamari was excellent! Highly recommend ordering it. The Caesar salad had a lot of shaved Parmesan cheese but a little too heavy on the dressing as you can see. The pasta was small and lacked flavor. We came on 4th of July -- so not your typical night out for an Italian meal but boy was every bite delicious! We appreciate the staff for doing all they could to accommodate us during the holiday evening and although it wasn't a perfect visit, we certainly will go back. Our group had a mix of vegetarians and lactose intolerant people. The menu at Civico was perfect for them! Loved having both a vegan and traditional menu. So many yummy options to choose from. The menu was organized and nicely laid out so we could clearly see what dishes were vegan friendly. The star dishes were the vegan lasagna and the vegan tiramisu!! Perfectly crafted and every bite was better than the next. The bruschetta was one of my favorite appetizers of the night. The flavors married each other so well. It was certainly different than I imagined and thought we were getting a traditional bruschetta but it was so much better. Slightly sweet and the bread was perfectly toasted. We split it into 4 pieces to share and I wish I had more bites. The staff was friendly but sometimes not available and we were often looking for napkins and water refills. We decided to come here for my fiancés birthday the other night. We hadn't been here before but we're very happy we came. He's vegan, and I'm currently following a plant based diet, so it seemed like a perfect fit. We actually found the restaurant after looking on the app InKind (highly recommend btw!), specifically for places with vegan food. They have a parking lot on the side of the building. Not many spaces but grateful for the option! They have seating outside and inside, and I guess inside is both "restaurant" or "dining room." Not sure the difference, but we sat at a table close to the window which was nice. The inside decor is really cute. Beautiful string lights, cookware on the walls, and there was even an old movie playing on a projector. It felt pretty authentic and adorable. Servers were very attentive. We had Adi and he was really sweet. We were brought water right away. And they serve fresh vegan focaccia bread with a DELICIOUS pesto sauce before your meal. Honestly, that pesto is something I want to take home and drink. So good. We decided to both order from the vegan menu. When else can you get fresh vegan Italian?! We got their version of vegan carpaccio as an appetizer. Which was oddly turkey based? (Vegan of course). But truly one of the most unexpectedly yummy things I've had in awhile. The mayo type sauce on it was delicious. The lettuce and capers were a great touch. And it had some sort of mustard stuffed olives that I could eat forever. My fiancé got the lasagna as a main. And I got the pesto spaghetti. Ironically I ended up liking the lasagna more and he liked the spaghetti so we swapped haha. Both were delicious. As someone who isn't vegan and loves meat and cheese, I can confidently say that lasagna was one of the best I've had in so long. Civico 2064 offers an incredible dining experience with beautiful presentation and a gorgeous atmosphere, great service and more, but what really blew me away was the food. The Italian dishes taste completely authentic--exactly like the meals I've had while traveling in Italy. As a major bonus, their vegan options are absolutely PHENOMENAL. We were strolling through the neighborhood and actually left another Italian spot up the street because the menu was underwhelming. Thankfully, we ended up here. The service was fantastic, and we were seated immediately on a Friday evening. We arrived just in time because by the time we left, the restaurant was packed. You could smell the aroma of fresh Italian food before even walking through the door. We started with the beet salad, which was incredibly fresh with the perfect amount of dressing and great texture. The pistachio pesto pasta was the star of the meal, absolutely delicious. We added shrimp for some extra protein, and it paired perfectly with the sauce. First timer here, and this place is such an adorable, cozy hidden gem in Los Feliz. The food tasted fresh and simple - nothing was heavy, just straight forward yet flavorful. I tried the calamari and they also gifted us some complimentary focaccia bread, which was tasty. As someone who doesn't drink, I appreciated the variety of non-alcoholic drinks on the menu. I loved sipping on the NA Rose, which was surprisingly low in sugar. Our darling server, Aria, had a great spirit and I was impressed that he was the only server but he was working the room so smoothly. the other staff was very warm and inviting. An automatic 5 stars because they have free parking close by. Had dinner with my friends on a weeknight and it was such a cozy and beautiful restaurant. I loved everything about it as the decor just takes you to another place and reminds me of my prior visits to Italy. The bread and pesto that they give you is so good. I could have probably eaten that all night and been good. We weren't super hungry so we grazed the appetizer menu. I liked everything we tried. I grew up in Los Feliz, and Hillhurst and Vermont have always been part of my life. Sarno's (later Vermont), Dresden, Electric Karma, Palermo's, House of Pies, Alcove, Home, Luigi's, Café Figaro, and Trattoria Farfalla--those two streets from Franklin to Hollywood Blvd were once overflowing with restaurants, character, and history. Even after moving away in the early 80s, I kept coming back to the old favorites and exploring the new ones. Civico 2064 is one of the newer additions, opening about two years ago, and with all the great reviews, I finally decided to try it. Before I continue, I want to pay tribute to Tony of Palermo's, who recently passed away. A wonderful man with a warm, lively personality. So many memories of great food, great service, and Tony himself. You will be missed, my friend. We arrived at Civico 2064 on a Saturday evening at 6:45. The small parking lot was a pleasant surprise, and we even snagged a spot. We were greeted by Dario, who we later learned is one of the owners. Their first restaurant is in San Diego, and this is their second. We chose to sit outside--it was a beautiful night--and had some great small talk with him. I mentioned some of my favorite Italian spots in Southern California, and he knew most of them. Because I liked him, I shared one of my expectations: hot food should come out hot, cold food should come out cold. He smiled, assured me that everything would arrive exactly that way, and he did not disappoint. The iced tea was excellent--rich, dark, with fresh lemon slices. Small glasses, but they refilled them generously. We passed on the bread, and in hindsight, maybe we shouldn't have. We ordered: Fried calamari Cheese‑stuffed zucchini blossoms Meatballs Sautéed green beans Black cod entrée (shared) The sauces: The garlic aioli for the calamari was gorgeous. The light tomato cream sauce for the zucchini blossoms was mild, balanced, and let the blossoms shine. The pesto, however, missed the mark--basil, pine nuts, olive oil were there, but zero garlic and zero salt. It tasted unfinished, almost like baby food. Somehow that batch made it through quality control. The fried dishes: Outstanding. Light, delicate, not overly salted, and melted in your mouth. The calamari was the best I've ever had--fresh, lightly breaded, perfectly seasoned, and cooked just right. No chewiness. The zucchini blossoms were equally fantastic. The black cod: Beautifully done. The cherry tomato sauce--with capers, olives, chunky tomato pieces--was delicious and surrounded tender potatoes, with the grilled cod resting cleanly on top. A masterpiece. Green beans: Soft yet crisp, seasoned perfectly with a touch of pepper flakes. Meatballs: My friend loved them. Rich sauce--should've kept the bread to soak it up. Our server Jorge was attentive and kind. Dario made us feel welcomed. The restaurant interior is more elegant than the photos suggest--warm, darker, and classier. Absolutely date‑night worthy. After 8 PM, it started getting busier. I would give this place a 3.5. The space is beautiful and they have space for large groups. The host gave us a table for 4, even though we had mistakenly booked a table for 2. The servers are all very friendly, but on the night we visited they were understaffed, due to a show at the Greek, so we often sat with water glasses empty. Our server did mention that they did not expect such a large crowd. They bring out complimentary bread and pesto, both of which were just ok. The food is mid, nothing is memorable. We tried the branzino and gnocchi. A good stop on the way to the Greek, but nothing special otherwise. read more

I met the owner of the San Diego restaurant, Pietro ,an incredible chef and all-around fantastic guy. After a visit to Griffith Park, decided to check out the second location in Los Feliz (managed by his brother, Dario). Wow, incredible meal. Beautiful, fresh beet salad followed by the Veal Scaloppini that was the most delicious entre I have had in YEARS. It was incredibly tasty, tender, and fresh, which is a characteristic of the owners. I've also had the Chicken Scaloppini which was equally delicious. My dinner partner had the vegan Lasagna and she could not stop talking about how good it was (I had a taste and WOW, it was phenomenal). I joked that the chef actually had his Italian grandmother back there and turns out, these recipes are indeed from their Italian grandmother. I had the vegan gelato and was blown away how delicious it was. Go have the meal of a lifetime at Civicos. Service was SUPERB and great ambiance. Civico on Hillhurst Ave in Silverlake has been around for about a year and a half, existing in what was once a tasty but inconsistent place called Puran's. They've upgraded the interior quite a bit and it's got a whole clean, white, rustic, casual charm to it now with antique cooking elements hung along the length of one wall, barrels at the far end of the spacious room, and they've kept the old school black and white movies running in silence above the kitchen that Puran's implemented-- I like it all just fine. I was gifted THE RED DINING BOOK for my recent birthday, a book that costs just over $100 and allows you to remove the cost of the cheapest entree ordered at a meal when two or more are ordered. There are 27 excellent LA restaurants in it and this was the one I chose to use it on first, hence the stamped Civico page you'll see in the photos. Our meal starts off with the focaccia style bread with pesto being delivered in a bag, cold and stiff. Unlike the reviews I've read about it being warm and soft, so our most amiable and cool waiter Brandon races to get us a replacement batch to go with the homemade pesto dipping sauce. It's a nice improvement. Love the bread. Felt the pesto, while clearly made with fresh ingredients, could do for some more flavor tweaks: I like pesto really garlicky and think it shines best with a little lemon juice in it which was decidedly missing here. Still, it's all a nice freebie and Brandon is a cool cat waiter as well as being the house Maitre d. He steers me into a nice bottle of Chianti and we are off to the races with THE BURRATA SALAD Shown in other reviews as being served atop all heirloom tomatoes of different colors, ours arrives all red and it seems to me that only 2 of the 7 or 8 slices are even heirloom, but Brandon assures me they all are and that's fine. The burrata is excellent quality. Could've done w a few more basil leaves to cut up and eat with each bite and certainly could've used more olive oil below it all. Here comes my first gripe w Civico: I'd've loved there to be fine quality salt and pepper on every table but, hey, it's not my restaurant... 4/5 stars. THE PAPARADELLE W SHORT RIB RAGOUT My date and I each order the 'most popular' pasta dish on the menu according to Brandon and according to fellow yelpers in their reviews. Some said that the portion was smallish for the $29 price but both my date and I felt it was just right and a nicely apportioned serving. The flat noodles are cooked perfectly and the ragout short rib that clings to them? Savory, soft, the sinewy nature of the short rib cooked down so much so that it takes on a pudding like texture that works harmoniously with the tomato sauce and thinly sliced and melted Parmesan cheese atop it all... a lovely dish here. 5/5 stars. THE HOUSE TIRAMISU For dessert we have our hearts set on the tiramisu we read about in reviews and Brandon informs us they just sold the last slice. We express our dismay and vacillate between the pear tart and the crème brûlée when Brandon extraordinaire returns with some good news: the chef wants to make us one on the spot as he heard I just had a birthday. How cool is that?! About 10 minutes later it arrives and it is terrific; you can tell they know how to make a good tiramisu with the right amount of ricotta and coffee grinds and vanilla wafers etc. Our cookies are crunchy in the cream dessert - a no no with tiramisu, to be sure, but they did not have the time or night to let it refrigerate and soak up the other sweet ingredients for the softening. We look forward to trying this again when, I am confident, it will shine... All in all, I'd probably give this particular meal at Civico a 4 stars out of 5 for the little trips along the way, but they all got attended to and ironed out in due course and the meal was quite fine. It's hard to find good Italian classics made fresh using truly fresh ingredients and I think Civico is doing that most honorably and in a pleasant environment... so overall, I'm rating it a 5 star experience and I look forward to eating at Civico again. read more

It's a 10/10 experience. It's a laid-back chilled out place. But this is LA, you can dress up even at a food truck. It has a nice 60s vibe, with a black-and-white movie playing in the background. We went on a Tuesday night and still it was busy. Our server was super attentive and busy like a bee. 10 on 10 for the professionalism. Jorge remembered our special request of spice even though he was busing a lot of tables. We appreciated him bringing Calabria peppers to enjoy with our vegan ravioli. It transformed the flavors of the ravioli and hit the spot. His recommendation of the vegan chocolate ganache was a must have. We would've missed out if we went with the tiramisu. Amazing restaurant. Everything we had was delish. Servers and staff were very attentive and owner was very interactive with everyone. There were many regulars around us which is always a good sign. I had such a lovely first experience at Cívico that it pains me to update my review. My family arrived at the restaurant on time for our 6:30pm reservation on a Saturday night. There is free self-parking for Cívico patrons in a lot a few doors down the block, which is always a nice touch in LA. The hostess was really nice, and even greeted me "Happy Birthday," which I noted on the reservation. There were a few patrons here and there, but we arrived before the dinner rush, so service started out great. We ordered drinks and got appetizers right away. COMPLIMENTARY FOCACCIA AND PESTO - 4/5 A great start to a meal. Tasted freshly made. The focaccia could use more salt and the bake could be more consistent, but it was still delicious. I did eat a piece that didn't taste fully baked. The same thing happened to my friend the first time we visited. CÍVICO SPRITZ - 5/5 A perfect and refreshing Italian cocktail. I would order this again! FRITTO DI CALAMARI - 4/5 The calamari pieces were delicious and I loved that they included vegetables, but the zucchini was charred to a crisp. I didn't mind the charr that much since there weren't that many pieces of it anyway, but I was surprised the chef would throw that in to an otherwise perfectly cooked appetizer. The aioli was fantastic and brought the dish together. FIORE RIPIENO - 3/5 The zucchini blossom was great, but the caponata inside was a bit of an acquired taste. It came with a tomato sauce, but I preferred dipping it in the pesto or garlic aioli from the calamari. Around the time we ordered our main course is when the service started to slow. It looked like there was only one person in the kitchen cooking and only one waiter who was spread thin with the influx of incoming guests. We decided to order a second bag of focaccia bread from the bus boy (I'm guessing) to tide us over, and we had to keep asking for more water since we waited awhile. When our main course arrived, there were hits and misses. PAPPARDELLE BRASATO - 5/5 My favorite pasta dish! This one is a must. Perfectly tender short rib. LINGUINE VONGOLE E BOTTARGA - 4/5 according to my sister but 3/5 according to me. The pasta was served in a light broth with lots of delicious clams. The broth was very spicy, and I thought it should've come with a warning. My sister loves spicy food, so she didn't mind the heat--hence her higher score. MAFALDE AL RAGU DI CINGHIALE - 2/5 The pasta was noticeably fresh, but the meat was very bland. I'm guessing they forgot to add salt. My brother-in-law was so hungry that he didn't want to complain about it, but I felt really bad! It tasted like someone put ground beef in a George Foreman grill without any seasoning and it lost all of its flavor. Last time I was at Cívico, I thought the same thing about the tagliatelle! SPAGHETTI LIMONE E GAMBERI - 5/5 If you're looking for the closest dish to an Alfredo, this is it! The pecorino cheese added so much depth, which was a big hit with my other sister. The pasta was perfectly cooked and flavorful. This was a very comforting pasta dish. LOBSTER SPAGHETTI (SPECIAL) - 5/5 The Eastern Rock Lobster was succulent and the sauce was packed with flavor. A very luxurious pasta dish and fitting for a special occasion! As we were enjoying our main course, the bus boy kept trying to clear our plates even when some of us were still actively eating. (And I mean, pasta on our forks!) Given how late we got our food, I found it very annoying! Then when we were all done and asked for the dessert menu, they didn't bother to clear the table. They started putting out new silverware on the dirty table. I had to request that they wipe down the table and refresh our glasses. When dessert arrived there was no birthday acknowledgement or candle. I didn't make a fuss at the time because the waiter looked stressed and barely visited our table to begin with. However, given that we made a reservation weeks in advance, came for a special occasion, and spent a lot of money, I was disappointed by the experience. TIRAMISU - 5/5 This was smaller than when I visited the first time, but still very delicious. CANNOLO SCOMPOSTO - 5/5 This dessert felt special! Also, small for $14, but tasted great. Let's start with the service, a little slow and delivery of a wrong dish. The waiter, and person dressed casually (possibly manager), were very kind though. We were given the wrong dish as complimentary which was nice to not have to wait again for my dish to be made while the rest of the party ate, so I did appreciate that a lot. Actually the mistaken dish (spaghetti) turned out to be my favorite! Food wise I ordered the Pappardelle Brasato and was given the Spaghetti Al Pomodoro. The Pappardelle Brasato's meat was very tender and had a light flavor to it which was refreshing while the noodles complimented them well. The Spaghetti Al Pomodor was my favorite though, the noodles were the right texture and tasted like they had been infused with a light cheese flavor completed by the tomatoes that surrounded it, just immaculate. Pesto and bread were brought out while we wait, a bit to Basily for me but still good. As for my drink it was also very fresh and the alcohol content felt considerably high... or I'm just weak. The ambiance was homie but sophisticated. It was pleasant and felt relaxing. Overall everything paired together well and I will definitely come again and will resist the temptation to order the spaghetti again to provide further insight. read more
