First timer here, and this place is such an adorable, cozy hidden gem in Los Feliz. The food tasted fresh and simple - nothing was heavy, just straight forward yet flavorful. I tried the calamari and they also gifted us some complimentary focaccia bread, which was tasty. As someone who doesn't drink, I appreciated the variety of non-alcoholic drinks on the menu. I loved sipping on the NA Rose, which was surprisingly low in sugar. Our darling server, Aria, had a great spirit and I was impressed that he was the only server but he was working the room so smoothly. the other staff was very warm and inviting. The ambience has romantic lighting and old movies playing on a projector, which I thought was a fun touch. I really enjoyed chilling at the bar where you can see the cooks preparing the food. I look forward to coming back to try more dishes, especially the pastas.

Pasta: can't remember the name but it was good.

An automatic 5 stars because they have free parking close by. Had dinner with my friends on a weeknight and it was such a cozy and beautiful restaurant. I loved everything about it as the decor just takes you to another place and reminds me of my prior visits to Italy. The bread and pesto that they give you is so good. I could have probably eaten that all night and been good. We weren't super hungry so we grazed the appetizer menu. I liked everything we tried. I always get the calamari and that was superb but didn't lobe the garlic aioli that came with it. The service was good. Always there when needed and my friend who always goes there says they are always great so it wasn't a one time thing. It's a bit far from my house so not sure I'd go again but I'd definitely highly recommend.

Adorable spot in the heart of Los Feliz. They have a breadth of pasta dishes along with anti-pastas and AMAZING BREAD! Holy moly the bread, butter, and olives were to die for. Loved them. Oh and do not skip the fried calamari. Even if you're vegan do not skip the fried calamari. The service was pretty solid although we did run out of time due to another party coming in. It was a bit of a surprise but guess this can be expected with a popular spot. Cheers!

I came here for dinner, we ordered a few different dishes to try. Service was friendly & attentive. The Fritto Di calamari was crispy & paired so well with the sauce. The Gnocchi alla caprese was chewy and has a great pesto sauce. The Mafalde al ragu di cinghiale is a great red sauce meat pasta. The Porcini infused tagliatelle black truffle is a special pasta, but so worth getting- it was my favorite of the three we tried on this visit. All of these pastas I would order again- they're fresh and hit the spot! Parking- street parking or parking lot

My favorite dish was AMATRICIANA CALABRESE. Though pasta was not Al Dente but the combination of spicy Calabrian peppers, pasta sauce, and creamy burrata was well balanced and delicious. Calamari was standard. MAFALDE AL RAGU DI CINGHIALE was good but AMATRICIANA CALABRESE really blew my mind. Creme Brulee Al Pistachio was okay.

I met the owner of the San Diego restaurant, Pietro ,an incredible chef and all-around fantastic guy. After a visit to Griffith Park, decided to check out the second location in Los Feliz (managed by his brother, Dario). Wow, incredible meal. Beautiful, fresh beet salad followed by the Veal Scaloppini that was the most delicious entre I have had in YEARS. It was incredibly tasty, tender, and fresh, which is a characteristic of the owners. I've also had the Chicken Scaloppini which was equally delicious. My dinner partner had the vegan Lasagna and she could not stop talking about how good it was (I had a taste and WOW, it was phenomenal). I joked that the chef actually had his Italian grandmother back there and turns out, these recipes are indeed from their Italian grandmother. I had the vegan gelato and was blown away how delicious it was. Go have the meal of a lifetime at Civicos. Service was SUPERB and great ambiance. It was like being at a dinner party because everyone in the restaurant was having such a good time. GREAT COCKTAILS TOO.

Space is gorgeous, clean and super spacious. Service was accommodating and the guy was helpful. We ordered their Pappardelle Brasato - the short rib was tender and flavorful. Portion size was fairly small in my opinion. Our friends ordered the lasagna - it had a kick, but we were all underwhelmed with the flavor.

Great vegan choices, beautiful and tasty food, nice atmosphere. As a born and raised Italian, and a vegan, I definitely recommend stopping by and trying Civico!

Civico on Hillhurst Ave in Silverlake has been around for about a year and a half, existing in what was once a tasty but inconsistent place called Puran's. They've upgraded the interior quite a bit and it's got a whole clean, white, rustic, casual charm to it now with antique cooking elements hung along the length of one wall, barrels at the far end of the spacious room, and they've kept the old school black and white movies running in silence above the kitchen that Puran's implemented-- I like it all just fine. I was gifted THE RED DINING BOOK for my recent birthday, a book that costs just over $100 and allows you to remove the cost of the cheapest entree ordered at a meal when two or more are ordered. There are 27 excellent LA restaurants in it and this was the one I chose to use it on first, hence the stamped Civico page you'll see in the photos. Our meal starts off with the focaccia style bread with pesto being delivered in a bag, cold and stiff. Unlike the reviews I've read about it being warm and soft, so our most amiable and cool waiter Brandon races to get us a replacement batch to go with the homemade pesto dipping sauce. It's a nice improvement. Love the bread. Felt the pesto, while clearly made with fresh ingredients, could do for some more flavor tweaks: I like pesto really garlicky and think it shines best with a little lemon juice in it which was decidedly missing here. Still, it's all a nice freebie and Brandon is a cool cat waiter as well as being the house Maitre d. He steers me into a nice bottle of Chianti and we are off to the races with THE BURRATA SALAD Shown in other reviews as being served atop all heirloom tomatoes of different colors, ours arrives all red and it seems to me that only 2 of the 7 or 8 slices are even heirloom, but Brandon assures me they all are and that's fine. The burrata is excellent quality. Could've done w a few more basil leaves to cut up and eat with each bite and certainly could've used more olive oil below it all. Here comes my first gripe w Civico: I'd've loved there to be fine quality salt and pepper on every table but, hey, it's not my restaurant... 4/5 stars. THE PAPARADELLE W SHORT RIB RAGOUT My date and I each order the 'most popular' pasta dish on the menu according to Brandon and according to fellow yelpers in their reviews. Some said that the portion was smallish for the $29 price but both my date and I felt it was just right and a nicely apportioned serving. The flat noodles are cooked perfectly and the ragout short rib that clings to them? Savory, soft, the sinewy nature of the short rib cooked down so much so that it takes on a pudding like texture that works harmoniously with the tomato sauce and thinly sliced and melted Parmesan cheese atop it all... a lovely dish here. 5/5 stars. THE HOUSE TIRAMISU For dessert we have our hearts set on the tiramisu we read about in reviews and Brandon informs us they just sold the last slice. We express our dismay and vacillate between the pear tart and the crème brûlée when Brandon extraordinaire returns with some good news: the chef wants to make us one on the spot as he heard I just had a birthday. How cool is that?! About 10 minutes later it arrives and it is terrific; you can tell they know how to make a good tiramisu with the right amount of ricotta and coffee grinds and vanilla wafers etc. Our cookies are crunchy in the cream dessert - a no no with tiramisu, to be sure, but they did not have the time or night to let it refrigerate and soak up the other sweet ingredients for the softening. We look forward to trying this again when, I am confident, it will shine... All in all, I'd probably give this particular meal at Civico a 4 stars out of 5 for the little trips along the way, but they all got attended to and ironed out in due course and the meal was quite fine. It's hard to find good Italian classics made fresh using truly fresh ingredients and I think Civico is doing that most honorably and in a pleasant environment... so overall, I'm rating it a 5 star experience and I look forward to eating at Civico again.

It's a 10/10 experience. It's a laid-back chilled out place. But this is LA, you can dress up even at a food truck. It has a nice 60s vibe, with a black-and-white movie playing in the background. We went on a Tuesday night and still it was busy. Our server was super attentive and busy like a bee. 10 on 10 for the professionalism. Jorge remembered our special request of spice even though he was busing a lot of tables. We appreciated him bringing Calabria peppers to enjoy with our vegan ravioli. It transformed the flavors of the ravioli and hit the spot. His recommendation of the vegan chocolate ganache was a must have. We would've missed out if we went with the tiramisu. We enjoyed the glass of bubbles , our salad was a tad bit sour , the ravioli was amazing with the peppers and the chocolate ganache was 10 on 10. Parking is adjacent in a lot. Thank God for that. The management and the staff want you to have a good experience at their restaurant so they're very attentive. Very homely and MUST dine in LA kinda restaurant

This place is slept on, lowkey they have one of the area's best happy hours. Super relaxed and the staff is so friendly.

Such a gem of a restaurant! If you are vegan then this is the absolute perfect Italian restaurant for you. Half of their menu is vegan and the other half is not. I tried the vegan lasagna and had no idea it was vegan. It tastes like the real thing! The Negroni was the best I've ever had. And the tiramisu was to die for! Honestly everything I tried was amazing. The service was excellent and I love the natural lighting in the restaurant. The best part is the parking lot because we all know how hard it is to find parking in Los Feliz! Can't wait to bring all my friends back here for another meal.

I don't usually eat meat, but I trusted the owner's pasta recommendation, and WOW, absolutely worth putting my no-meat strike on pause. When Italians tell you what to order, you say si. FYI: no parking drama, they offer massive free parking lot, this place really gets it! Already planning round two, can't wait to return

Still stands-up to the hype after all these years…read more If "Trendy" was a restaurant, Bestia would easily be in top contention, even after being around for more than a decade. That says a lot. Once upon a time (a few years ago), my CFP + banking institution wanted to thank me for being one of their top private clients. They expressed their gratitude with a very generous, all expense paid full-course meal at Bestia. To say that I was impressed would be an understatement. Fast forward to now, I knew that coming back here would be a good idea. Make no mistake, even if you try to book a reservation several weeks in-advance, don't be surprised if the only available seats are at the counter. Granted, I was in a spacey table during my past visit, the counter can be an enjoyable & unintentionally entertaining space. It's great for a more casual vibe, as you get to see some of the kitchen workers put together some of their signature dishes. In many ways, Bestia seems like a microcosm of the city that it rather humbly resides within. What always catches me off-guard, is that the surrounding simple area really doesn't reflect the happening, vibrant, night-life that resides within the building's walls. You feel like you're taken so a different, very social, very bustling world. WINE: Podere 72, Poderi San Lazzaro (Marche region, central Italy) - 8.7 / 10 A very robust blend of Montepulciano & Sangiovese grapes that results in a balanced, medium bodied red wine that stands-up to heartiness of a beef ribeye steak. FOOD: Roasted Bone Marrow - 9.4/ 10 I have several friends that go here just for this particular dish. Funny enough, one can almost always tell that one is at Bestia because of the rather peculiar manner in which this dish is served. Hot, melted bone marrow is appropriately scooped out of the bone & poured onto spinach gnocchetti. It's like eating beef flavored mouth pillows of potato + spinach. It's definitely a dish that will impress whoever you are with. I can never resist ordering this whenever I am here. Oxtail alla Vaccinara - 8.9 / 10 The deep, rich maroon color of the rigatoni (thanks to beets) is a sight to behold. The pasta is firm but not too hard. It's a humble yet complex pasta dish that complements any main course. 26oz Margaret River Wagyu Ribeye - 9.4 / 10 Anybody who knows me knows that I love my ribeye. Any decent fancy restaurant does a ribeye. But no one does a ribeye quite like Bestia. The fermented mushroom cream delivers a punch of pungence not unlike a delectable dijon mustard, but to the highest of levels. This dish also makes me a believer in well-cooked onions served alongside steak. I usually like to take a home a portion of ribeye for later, but this is one of the very few instances when the steak is so good, that I can't help but finish it here. Again, the portion is more than enough to be shared. Fromage Blanc Mousse - 9.1 / 10 This seasonal dish hits all the right notes. It's the fanciest of cheesecakes, so I recommend sharing this. With its decadence, a little truly goes a long way & that's perfectly fine. The richness of the cheese is offset perfectly by the right balance of candied kumquats. A great "bite" to end on. Huge shout-out & thanks to Radu for being the nicest & most enthusiastic of servers. It's little things like him being so down to take pics of you with your party that really make me want to come back here. It the owners / management is reading this, please recognize how pivotal he is to your team. If he was working under me, I would most definitely give him a raise. Also, shout-out to Dani at the hostess stand. She is one of the most personable people. For being the first person that patrons see upon entering, she is the perfect face, attitude, & welcoming personality that the hospitality industry is in dire need of. She's a rockstar of a hostess & a pleasure to talk with. Bestia is a better place because of valuable employees like Radu & Dani. As always, come for the food. Come back for the service. I would definitely come back because of how amazing Radu & Dani are. Years after the hype, the vibe is still very much happening at Bestia.

The biggest disappointment was the service. Our server was unwilling to accommodate even simple requests. One friend in our group doesn't drink, and when we asked if her mocktail could be served in a cocktail glass so she could feel included, he simply said no. He also refused to make an espresso martini despite having the ingredients available. To make matters worse, one of our dishes never arrived. When we brought it up, the server responded, "I asked you if it came out and you said yes," instead of apologizing for the mistake. Afterward, he took the bill and appeared to be talking negatively about our table. For a restaurant with such a stellar reputation, I expected much better. Between the tiny portions, average food, and poor service, I won't be back

This was actually my second visit. The first time, my husband and I stopped in for lunch and had a couple of items that were good, but I left feeling like maybe we just didn't order the right things. Since so many people seem to love this place, we decided to give it another shot. This time we came with a group of four and ordered a variety of dishes. We started with the octopus, tartare, and burrata appetizers. For pizzas, we had the Mortadella Pista and the Prosciutto with Truffle Oil Pista. We also ordered the Cacio e Pepe, mushroom risotto, and the Nutella dessert. The appetizers were okay, but the burrata was definitely the highlight. The pizzas were good and enjoyable, but nothing particularly memorable that would have me planning a return visit just for them. The Cacio e Pepe was decent, but the mushroom risotto was honestly the worst mushroom risotto I've ever had. It tasted like Campbell's cream of mushroom soup had been used as the base. The ambiance was nice, the service was good, and the drinks were enjoyable, but again, nothing felt especially memorable or exceptional. On a positive note, the prices were fair for what you get. Overall, I personally don't feel the need to come back. It's a perfectly fine meal, but with so many great dining options around, this just didn't stand out to me.

We stopped here on our way home from our honeymoon, and it turned out to be a great choice to end the trip on a high note. The service was genuinely excellent. We had a reservation for two, were warmly welcomed, and our server did an outstanding job throughout the evening. In Los Angeles, it can be hard to find places where the staff actually seems to enjoy what they do, and this was a refreshing exception. As for the food, it was a bit of a mixed experience. The margherita pizza was the one that disappointed me the most, mostly because I had high expectations. I love a good margherita, but this one had too much cheese and sauce and not enough basil, so it ended up tasting more like a plain cheese pizza, which is honestly my least favorite. That said, the crust was absolutely sensational. The meatballs were decent but could have used more salt. The desserts, however, were the highlight of the meal. When we mentioned it was our honeymoon, the staff surprised us with a complimentary olive oil cake, which was my first time trying one and it was wonderful. The fried dough with Nutella was also amazing. The desserts here are generous, well-made, and absolutely worth saving room for. Overall, a lovely experience with room for improvement on the savory side.

This last visit has reversed everything I didn't like about the changes and it literally has returned to its previous glory. Food was absolutely amazing this run! I came with my wife and mom (her first visit) and we ordered so much. Food: Braised Short Rib Marsala - The meat melts in your mouth. There's no way to describe how tender is and how easy it is to pull a piece away with your fork one handed. The polenta and mushrooms the ribs sit on have a super inviting taste. My wife doesn't like truffle sauces and that be the only thing I would switch out. Other than that the vegetables were still crispy but easy to chew. Perfect dish all around. Wild Shrimp Scampi is a must order for me. The shrimps are jumbo sized with a mix of flavors that's been improved since a few months ago. It's no longer swimming in grease and a joy to eat with the generous slices of toasted garlic bread. Burrata - Sweet vinaigrette, large chunks of fresh ripped tomatoes, crunchy toast and arugula is a 100% must order. The burrata cheese melts in your mouth. Ambiance - very lively and celebratory loud, this place is perfect for a fun date, a family gathering or even just to feel energize and enjoy an amazing atmosphere Service - Service at over the years have had hits and misses but the last 3 visits have been straight up amazing. Our latest server was with James again which was the server that first waited on us and made us feel welcome many years before pandemic years. He hasn't changed a bit and remains charismatic giving benchmark setting service. This was my mom's first visit and he really impressed her that she is now ok with us traveling 25 miles to eat here again lol. Managers and the host Friday night "Treya" not sure on spelling was awesome taking care of us. It's been a joy to see the menu improve by so much and all around service being so good again. Previous visits, Gunner and Wyatt (welcome back) are at the top of my short lists in best of the best in service. The staff here is why I spent 80% of my north Italia visits here. The other 20% at the Irvine location. Have yet to try the Torrance one. I remember many years ago a manager I believe "Lisa" turned us into regulars here forever. Looking forward to my next visit! HIGHLY RECOMMEND this location. You won't be disappointed.

To say this was the worse North Italia location that I've been to is an understatement. We were in…read moreManhattan beach area on Sunday before Memorial Day and all the restaurants in the area were booked up. After checking Yelp, we noticed that there were a lot of available reservations for that night so I made it for 8:15pm. We arrived 10 min before our reservation time, checked in and the hostess mumbled something to me and just told me to wait, which I did for like 10min. I noticed that there were plenty of tables empty inside and decided to ask the hostess if my table is ready yet. Right away she realized it was ready and asked someone to walk me in. We walked up to a semi cleaned table that had clear leftover crumbs on it, which the hostess very quickly wiped it away with her hands.... We ignored all these issues and decided to enjoy dinner... as we sat there for 15 minutes waiting for a waiter, any waiter to come get us or even take our drink orders but no one came. My partner had to flag someone down and at the point we were already starving and ordered all the drinks, apps and entrees together. I got the pomegranate mule for drink. For food, we shared heirloom tomato burrata, black Mediterranean mussels, bolognese pasta and braised short rib marsala (we gotten the same entrees before at their other locations and they were some of our favs). Everything took forever to come out. We didn't eat until at least 45mjn i after ordering... * Heirloom tomato: basic, it was ok. Nothing to write home about * Black Mediterranean mussels: best dish of the night. Mussels were plump and juicy. Broth was very flavorful * bolognese pasta: lukewarm, tasted like it's been sitting out for awhile. portion size was smaller than other places. Some of the noodles were clumped together and undercooked * Braised Short Rib Marsala: it was sooo salty. The sweet peas were old and fibrous. I had to spit out. It was honest such a disappointing experience. I have loved all other North Italia locations I've dined at but this one was the worst. Service and kitchen is extremely slow. Kitchen looked overstaffed while front of the house looked unstaffed. Food is not up to par at all. I always take pictures of my food, but the food was so sad looking, I didn't bother.
