Dune has been on my "to try" list for a while. What a gem! The food was SO GOOD. We arrived around 7 on a Saturday night. The darling patio was pretty full but we had a very short wait. Out server Emily was a delight. So friendly and accommodating (and thanks again for the Baklava!) We had the lamb shwarma plate and the fried chicken plate, both with hummus. Also a side of the Za'atar/sumac fries. Fries came out first PIPING hot, crispy, seasoned perfectly nom nom. The entrees quickly followed. The lamb was so tender and juicy and bursting with flavor. And the fried chicken was AMAZING. Shwarma that is breaded with an amazing mixture and fried. Genius! The plates also came with hummus topped with whole chickpeas (YUM), dilled rice, a cabbage salad and other greens, grilled pita bread, olives and my personal favorite, pickled radishes. Many reviews describe them as beets (which I also love) but these are radishes and they pair so well with the rich meat. An umami bomb! Portions HUGE (we have a full meal waiting in the fridge) and prices very reasonable. Patio is a very fun hang with pretty lights. My only knock is on the chairs which are not exactly "comfy." But that's a trivial issue. Service was attentive and staff so friendly and helpful. I can't remember Emily's colleague's name but shout out to her and her Rasputin's shirt (yay Berkeley vibes.) Been passing by Dune for a while and finally decided to try it. Parking was a bit of a struggle. Could be because it was Sunday and there was a Farmers Market nearby, but still something to consider. We ordered the Lamb Plate ($26). Portion was solid and the plate is actually pretty interesting -- lots of different sides (flatbread, greens, olives, pickled turnips, etc.), so it doesn't feel boring. That said, the lamb itself was just a few small pieces and it was ground. I would've preferred more actual meat Tried the rosemary lemonade too, but didn't really taste any rosemary. Just a regular lemonade, slightly sweet and sour. Also you pay upfront right after ordering. We sat outside on a small patio facing Glendale Blvd. It's a tight space, and at one point someone from the street was walking around nearby talking to themselves, which made the experience a bit less comfortable. I've been here a bunch of times and it feels like whenever I'm in the Glendale area I somehow end up back here. It's a Mediterranean spot that serves some really good food. I almost always go for the hummus meze platter which comes with hummus, rice, salad, pita, falafel, and your choice of protein. I usually get the fried chicken which is crispy on the outside and moist inside. I also like to order a side of fries to share. They come out nice and crispy and are topped with sumac which gives them a really nice flavor. One thing to note is that seating is all outdoors, so if it's cold just bring a jacket. DELICIOUS! Such a cute outdoor shop in Atwater Village! All the ingredients felt so fresh and were seasoned to perfection. I do wish they gave a tad more sauce and protein for the price. I found myself in Glendale and had this place book marked for a while now. It's a walk up order and they have outdoor seating you can wait in line for. We ordered the fried chicken hummus plate and a side of fries. We also ordered a rosemary lemonade. The lemonade was just ok pretty boring actually, wouldn't get again. As for the food, everything was fresh and flavorful. The chicken was moist and well seasoned, the fries were nicely seasoned and fresh. I have had this place bookmarked for years!!! I recently saw this place online so I finally tried it out. Visiting Glendale Blvd. parking can be tricky, but not impossible. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but this is not indoor dining. It is strictly outdoor seating with a welcoming atmosphere. Once our order was taken you pay upfront which is weird...with tip of course, which I guess goes to the kitchen and not the servers? I'm not entirely sure. I love Dune! I've tried the beef plate and chicken plate (both doordashed so I really need to try in person) but even with doordash, it is incredible. The chicken or beef are really flavorful, spices on point but the true stars are the sides. The freshness from the herby salad, the acidity from the cabbage salad and the two little peppers (hit or miss on if it delivers spice) complement the food so well. The pita that it comes with is very fluffy and is also glazed with an herb oil. The rice is standard so nothing that stands out but nothing bad about it. Made the drive from Studio City to Dune for Dine LA lunch. It was 98 degrees outside and although there was no traffic midday, parking in Atwater is always a challenge. I hunted a bit before tracking down a spot and paying the meter. I have not been to Dune before, but the value of the lunch special along with the promise of a fried chicken shawarma, coupled with unexpected free time, sounded like a promising moment to stop by. Walked up to the window and after no acknowledgement, I peaked inside the door and asked whether I place an order at the counter or wait to be seated. When I tell you the jarring elder Gen Z stare and incredibly unfriendly direction to sit on the bench and wait my turn (in the literal sense that I was told to sit on the bench and wait my turn. There was only a party of 2 seated at the bench and no line to speak of) made me regret coming out to eat entirely. I'm not lying when I say I thought about leaving immediately and driving home in my air conditioned car instead of sitting on a hot bench in nearly 100 degree weather with no acknowledgement of party size, no offer for a drink or water while I wait, and just existing in my bizarre humiliation ritual for having asked what the procedure is here for any kind of recognition of my interest in dining or simply existing. And yes, after sitting down I saw there is a small low contrast sign on a post stating to sit on the bench and wait, but it is positioned parallel to the counter window and only when turning away from the glass toward the seating area was it placed in a way that I would see it. Not very useful for someone who is walking up or down the sidewalk as it's not visible. I held my breath for about 10 minutes before being asked my party size (one) and seated at a shaded table. I regretted my choice to dine out the entire wait time for the table, while ordering and then being required to pay upfront before my meal was even presented to me, while seated awaiting my order, while my food (loaded fries, fried chicken shawarma, date shake and an added unsweetened iced green mint tea) was dumped at once on the table in front of me, while eating feeling humiliated for existing inside human skin, and again when having to walk to the window and ask for a to-go box. I felt like a massive inconvenience for the staff and fully regretted bothering them every step of the way for normal things like a Dine LA menu which was not initially offered, adding an iced tea to my order, existing in a metal folding chair and generally taking up space. I don't like being treated like a turd by people, and certainly don't want to be treated this way when I'm paying for a service. But after the initial flubbed interactions, demanding payment with tip upfront before receiving any kind of service was rendered, and then dumping my food at the table without ceremony, it's truly no wonder why the LA restaurant scene is dying. Between poorly trained staff, rising costs in rent and utilities, the outrageous cost of staffing and the fact that eating at a restaurant is completely unnecessary when cutting household expenses, restaurants are disappearing left and right. Some of the foods I still dream about are lost forever to closure after closure. Customers being treated like they're inconsequential isn't the only reason people like me usually choose to dine at home, and it's not the only reason restaurants are disappearing. But it's one of the only controllable elements in a world of runaway hospitality expenses. Customers deserve even a modicum of respect if restaurants are going to survive. $48 for the meal including tax and tip. More than enough food for lunch, I took home half. Loaded steak fries / wish they were served with a whipped feta or dipping sauce instead of ketchup but they're good. Generous portion of steak. 9/10 Fried chicken shawarma / fun idea, execution made it difficult to pick up to eat. Serving in a metal basket made it impossible to cut in half since there was not a solid surface to cut against. Overall the food was good, the plate was balanced of course, just how mediterranean food should be - the meat, rice, bread, salad, pickled stuffs, hummus, etc. The presentation was pleasant too. Dune ended up being our final lunch choice after a rainy Friday at the Los Angeles Zoo. When we first walked up, we assumed it was a to-go or takeout spot because of the service window and outdoor seating. Turns out we were wrong -- the staff was super friendly, let us know they offered table service, and quickly got us seated. The service was great from start to finish. There were four of us, and everyone ordered something different: a meze plate with grilled chicken, a steak gyro, a hummus and grilled chicken plate, falafel, and we shared the fries with feta. You know the food is good when everyone stops talking while eating -- and that was definitely the case here. Even though it was cold, rainy, and a few of us got a little wet (which wasn't the most comfortable), the food more than made up for it. Finally! After being on my bookmark list for years, we finally enjoyed this via DoorDash delivery this past Friday! The flavors are no joke and everything was so fresh and delicious. Easy 5 stars rec here. Dune makes yummy food, and serves healthy sized plates. Their falafel is currently my favorite. It's crunchy on the outside, and soft and flavorful on the inside. Parking can be difficult but not impossible, and it's worth enduring for the meal you'll be eating. Most of the street parking is for one hour only, so set a timer to refill if necessary (you don't want a parking ticket). The prices are very fair when you consider the amount of food and quality of what you're getting. It might be one of your favorite spots even after your first visit. I had dinner here with a friend, and the best way I can describe the food is: it felt like a "hippie" take on Middle Eastern cuisine. Almost everything was either too lemony or too garlicky, and the flavors weren't very balanced.
