The stock is great, albeit over-priced. They used to do 3 for 2 offers on manga and because I loved my little brothers, he has a good collection of whatever manga he wanted. I was a nice sister, bar the fake wrestling and screaming matches we used to have. They don't have the offers anymore and we don't fight anymore..much. Times have changed, and Manga is online. So I save money It's quite geeky in here but you can find some great birthday gifts for everyone, because everyone is secretly a bit of a geek. You can get Tv posters here, figurines. Even, life sized cardboard cutouts, if you can face the long journey home, either on bus, train or tube with a life sized cut out of david tennant as the 10th Doctor. This shop is a great treasure trove for geeks of all colours, as long as your fandom is somewhat mainstream. From collectibles and action figures over toys and fashion to stickers and lunch boxes, they have a huge variety of choices. The downstairs level is filled to the brim with books and comics and more books and comics! It's a delight to roam around and look at all the awesomeness! Forbidden Planet is a comic book nut's dream. They sell all kinds of items related to sci-fi and fantasy. There are hundreds of action figures, old school toys, comic books, DVDs, magazines and more. My favourite area of this store is the horror movie section. I love horror movies and I find that many places don't really carry good, underground classics for some reason. Here, however, they have a wealth of treasures as far as horror is concerned. If you need to get the pants scared off you or you want some Batman memorabilia this is the store for you. read more

I have gone to Forbidden Planet since it was in Denmark Street. It was a novelty then but now it is a bit commercial and pricy. Great if you collect comics. I have seen Denis Norden in there. If Gosh! comics were the well made indie film of comic stores in London, then Forbidden Planet is the Summer blockbuster (with all that, that entails). FB is a must for any geek passing through London. In fact any self respecting geek outside of London (and by that I mean in the rest of the world, ok maybe Europe) knows about Forbidden Planet. I think with the move to the new sparkly location, FB finally lives up to its Mecca like reputation, leaving that grotty New Oxford Street building behind. The entryway is pretty impressive, all glass and steel and well illuminated display cases full of the latest and greatest comic/film merchandise, the rest of this floor is stocked with TV/art/comic related toys, t-shirts and themed magazines. Downstairs there are fantasy art/sculpture display cases, graphic novels, comics, s-f/fantasy fiction, art books, games, cult/s-f/erotica dvd's and a thoroughly decent manga and anime section. I have a few issues with FB though, which is why it isn't my choice of comic store in London. The comic back issue selection is quite limited (graphic novel back catologue is good though), they usually only stock comics for maybe 4 months, so good luck tracking down that elusive back issue for your collection. It can get a little cramped, especially over the weekends when it gets very busy. Staff are a little uncaring, a couple times I've asked for help, only to be dismissed. I first came to this store many years ago when it was a tiny shop housing comics and books on the ground floor and basement. With the growth of interest in all things sci fi (since Star Wars onwards) they offer all the memorabilia and merchandise you could ever want - that's why they call it the Cult Entertainment Megastore! If you go, expect to spend a few hours there (and possibly spend money, too!). read more

Upstairs, Forbidden Planet is an often-crowded shop to purchase all those little things that will make your parent (or significant other) ask: what the hell is that? You don't know where to buy your 15 Pumpkinhead figurine? Your Emily the Strange lunchbox? Your reproduction Star Trek phaser? Your Supergirl T-shirt? Your Family Guy talking keychain? Your Wallace & Gromit shower radio? Your Jedi lightsabre? Your Hellblazer mask? All that and about a million other niche artifacts and collectibles are here. Downstairs is mostly bookstore and a bit roomier. There are a lot of comics, manga, graphic novels, DVDs, and books, books, books. If you want a sci-fi series, a fantasy novel, anime, or a box set of Thunderbirds, this is a good place to start. You could browse for hours. read more

This is basically the mecca for us geeks. If you love movies, comic books, anime, books, action figures or games this is a place you have to stop by when in London. This is a huge store with stuff cram-packed into two floors. On entering you'll see the amazing statues/figures that cost more than a ticket to the Reading festival that look so real you want to reach out and touch them. But you can't of course, they're safely behind glass (You wouldn't want to break something that pricey and have to pay for it would you The ground floor is filled with action figures, plush toys and merchandise from almost any tv show/film/game imaginable. Most items are in sections dedicated to the particular brand - such as Doctor Who, Star Wars, etc, so are easy to find. At the back of the store there are gaming related and music action figures (Where else are you really going to find a full set of Beatles action figures?) and magazines from sci-fi to comic book. Anyone still collecting the Marvel or DC magazine/mini figure magazine collections will be pleased to know that they have many many back issues, so chances are you'll find the one you are missing there. Downstairs there are comics, books and dvds galore. It will probably take you a while to get through the treasure trove that lies there. This is a greatly organised section with labels and alphabetising so you should find what you want. Also remember to look out for the Forbidden Planet Signed sticker on the front of items, this means when people came in for signings they left behind extra's that weren't snapped up and you can pick them up for the same price as regular - handy if you just couldn't get there for a signing on day. This is a shop you can easily spend hours in finding items you never thought existed, it's well laid out, the staff are friendly and ready to help, and they have great prices and even greater sales. This is the 1st of 3 rewiews that I will write for Forbidden planet I have been to 2 other store that deserve a review too. BY FAR this is the biggest one I wandering for a hour before I brought from dices and a £1 bag of comics. It has the biggest range of the more expensive items costing £££ Alien head lord of the rings swords ect. By far the biggest but not the best for me. Not many staff about to ask about anything and you have to go to the till, which can be annoying for you can the person behind the till trying to serve the people with purchases. I collect comics. There, I've said it. And Forbidden Planet is by far the best comic store in London. An excellent selection of comics from both mainstream and indie publishers, trade collections and hardback specials. I have always been able to find what I've wanted. And now the downside: it's a victim of its own success. I avoid it completely now at the weekend, as it's far too crowded. This leads to the second problem: the smell. Of people. On the expensive side but it's great to have somewhere to be able to pick up what you want and browse it rather than waiting for internet delivery of books/magazines. The shop layout is really spacious and bright; but even so can get very busy on weekends and in the lead up to Christmas. Amazing comic shop located in Shaftesbury avenue, near to Covent Garden. The store have two floors: on the ground floor there are a lot of merchandising: toys, t-shirts, calendars, etc. On the basement there are a massive quantity of comic and books of all the styles you can imagine. They also sell dvds that are not easy to find anywhere else. I really love this shop because you can find here books and presents for people that really like comics. I ended up here by complete accident not really my thing.. I was on the search for a gift for a friend and couldn't find it anywhere locally, so I took to the internet and found what I wanted on the Forbidden Planet website. I called the shop to see if they could reserve the item for me. They said they didn't have one in stock, but they did have one in anther shop. Then followed about an hour of to-ing and fro-ing over the phone to locate the item and arrange to have it sent to the right shop. This would have been made far easier had the person I initially spoke to been slightly competent... However, that was clearly just one person the other two people I spoke to were very helpful and apologetic.. The shop itself has lots of stuff for gaming, modelling, comics, etc, but I found it was way to packed with stuff making it difficult to move around. It wasn't helped by the spotty teenagers barging about all over the place (was I ever like that?). read more

The Forbidden Planet is a two-story comic book store, and a brilliant one at that. If you have a geeky side (such as I do), you are bound to love this place. Here you can find comic books, mangas, cult movies, sci-fi and fantasy books, rare collectibles and toys to fulfill the desires of your heart. Indeed the range of the stock at The Forbidden Planet is impressive, and personally, I have never experienced asking for a comic book that they did not have. Also, the staff members are very friendly and helpful if you have difficulties finding what you are looking for. Ocationally this establishment has writers or comic book artists come and sign their books, so a visit on one of those days, as well as on any other day, is definately worthwhile. read more

Welcome to sci-fi geek wonderland. One can spend hours there, despite the lack of air conditioner, which really boils you downstairs. There is a large variety of comics, illustration books, action figures, movie posters and t-shirts and - very important - japanese horror movies dvds. A friend of mine is a great fan of this specific genre and he's happy to find mostly everything in there. Comics lovers: you might find these packs with 5 comics for like £1 , and, despite the fact you can't choose which ones you are buying, it's quite interesting to see what luck can bring you for such a low price. read more

This place is awesome, I saw stuff that I usually wouldn't find in so cal...like an array of dr who collectibles. I picked up a 6.5 inch TARDIS along with "A bigger on the inside" T. Very cool. As far as comic book shops go if your gonna get what you want it will be here probably but at a price. FP is the biggest comic shop chain in the UK, the flag ship London store stocks comics, books, games, merchandise from toys to stormtrooper armour, if you want it'll prolly be here. Be warned you will pay a premium though, there is also the oddity that some of the items in store are cheaper midweek than at the weekend. You can get most things cheaper locally or online, but they do get most of the visitors to the uk going there and it is central London so you expect a slight increase in prices. The staff down stairs are fare more knowledgeable than this upstairs, especially the books department they're really good. The specialist comic books are generally a good 10-20% above market value. Be aware if using the web site for forbidden planet as there are 2; one based in the England and one in Scotland. The Scottish one is far better value for money than their British counterpart read more

I love Forbidden Planet and I don't think there is a single place in London which is better when it comes to comics, geeky toys and anime/manga. This really is a nerd heaven! I have been visiting this store for the past 5 years and they never dissapoint, plus the big London Mega Store has a lot of wonderful events like author signings and more. You can usually find out when the next one is on their site. They also have lot's of rare or limited editions things, and sometimes signed comics or rare variant covers. Most of the time I come here, I'm not even looking to buy anything, I just love to see what new stuff they have in stock, kind of like a nerdy museum. Not a fan - I have to say - this is like the fake little disneyland version of comic bookstores -- its too flashy and silly and its not hardcore -- ok -- i admit - i'm not hardcore - but i have deep appreciation for hardcore - and this is not it -- this is more like the really really geeky drippy comic book convention type of scene that gives the whole thing a bad name!! I figure that I might as well kick of my review portfolio with my favourite store in all the 52 Universes, including that one that was recently destroyed and rebuilt. Especially that one, even. Yes, that one. See, what I did there was a secret hand-shake style sentence that simultaneously gave you some information about my personal appreciation for the kingdom of the nerd on Shaftesbury and also establish my very own geek credentials. If you are nodding and saying 'Yes, yes I understand' then yes, you most probably do. Well done. So anyway, Forbidden Planet was once a Bag-end style two floor comic and collectible paradise hidden away on the 'not quite Oxford Street' wasteland of New Oxford Street. My Mother took me there once to pick a Birthday present (for me, not her) and I have to say, that I rather liked it. It was a treasure-trove of Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Horror and comic book paraphernalia that my fragile mind struggled to comprehend. I had dreamed of this place. I'm not sure if I actually bought anything, but I am notoriously cheap even with other people's money, so that is unsurprising. And really, I don't even buy anything now during my regular visits. But the fact is, in their (not quite so new now I come to think of it) new luxury Bag-end style two floor open plan awesomeness on Shaftesbury Avenue, you can find perhaps everything you would ever want to buy of an alternative persuasion. Want a collection of Manga starring improbably endowed schoolgirls? Basement floor, far corner. A life-size model of Padme (Clone Wars era)? Yo. The latest comics (released on Thursdays, by the way)? Of course you do. How about more statues than you can shake a Balrog's whip at? They have those, lots of those. I mean, I could go on. See, I may not buy things, but that isn't the point. This is the ultimate store for browsing the weird and wonderful coolness of the comic-book loving, sci-fi watching, Simpsons-quoting neo-nerds. If you like things, cool things, you will like this store. You might even buy some cool things. Don't buy the Cloud Vs Sephiroth diorama statue collection though, I'm saving up for those. In conclusion, it is a very well stocked comic-book store and that alone is worth a visit. This is one of my most favorite bookstores in the world because of its absolutely huge selection of Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, etc. in book, comic, DVD, toys, etc. form. They have all that and more with very knowledgeable staff. The also have a lot of visiting authors, actors and other dignitaries to make it even more interesting. One of the times I visited there was Neal Stephenson just chatting away with some customers and signing books. Forbidden Planet is geek walhalla, where you can buy everything scifi/game/comic/tv series related. Imagine tshirts, mugs, mirrors, wallets, coasters, teapots... from Doctor Who, Star Trek, Star Wars or anything that has achieved a cult status in geek land (sadly not enough or no Star Trek The Next Generation merchandise though, it's my favourite). This is a really cool comic book and toy store. My best friend took me here as a surprise. He's not into comic books, therefore, this was a very nice gesture on his part. The shop is two floors, the main one is toys and the books, graphic novels and single issues are down in the basement. It's basically a nerd heaven. I had trouble for the first few days in London trying to find like minded alternative people, however, found my kinship here with other nerds. Even though the store is big I actually got through it in about 30 minutes. It was cool to see some of the exclusive comic con variation covers in person. Good customer service. This place is pretty cool! One of the comics I buy released while we were visiting from the US. Needing my fix, this was recommended to me by other fans of the series. Talk about overwhelmed when I walked in! Kind of like a museum of awesome and then a whole basement full of paperback goodness. Staff wasn't as helpful as I would like and told me they didn't have the comic I was looking for, even after searching in the computer. I found it (at least 8 issues of it) on my own later on a second go around of the store so I had to question whether they actually looked it up or not. When I got in I was amazed at all the merchandise. There's so much television show/movie/video game memorabilia that it would likely take you forever to look through everything.
