Forbidden planet has got to be one of the best comic and collectables shop launched in the past 10 years. The sheer quanity of rare / uncommon items is overwhelming to say the least. After recently visiting forbidden planet in search for a birthday present for a family member i quickly stumbled across a limited edition of a comic called Battle royale a series based on the popular movies not only did i love the movies but now i love the comic too the attention to detail is amazing! read more

Forbidden Planet is London's best comics store with hundreds, if not thousands, of titles from all the well-known Marvel and DC Universe characters. Upstairs is a strange mishmash of Star Wars toys and heavy duty geeky Japanese pretend Transformers. Downstairs is where the action takes place with imports of all the latest US titles. There isn't really an alternative if you want to read this month's issue of Wolverine or Transformers: All Hail Megatron. I use the place for graphic novels when I really want to read it before it comes out on Amazon. This is a Mecca for geeks of all ages, price ranges, and genders. From Star Wars and Doctor Who to indie comics and collectables, you can find anything and everything. I could spend hours (and massive amounts of money) there. Be sure to head over for guest readings and signings, featured on the website - you can rub elbows with luminaries as well as up and coming artists. This place is AMAZING! I've been to the Forbidden Planet in Dublin and NYC and this one is far more impressive than both. First off, the place is huge. It has two floors-- the ground floor is dedicated to nerdy/pop-culture merchandise like apparel, figures, statues, and other accessories to show off your geek pride. The lower level is all comics, graphic novels, and books. They have a very large selection of graphic novels, you can pretty much find anything in their shelves. read more

Amazing bookshop downstairs if you like Sci-fi / Fantasy fiction - they have everything from classic books to modern and often have signed copies of books. if science fiction, fantasy, wierd films, conspiracies, or alternative worldviews are your thing you should get down here pretty sharp! you could easily spend hours just browsing through the wild and weird selection of comics, cult fiction novels, 15 foot high models of darth vader, build your own alternate reality kits, geek fantasy sticker albums, postersinfact anything your average sci-fi freak could wish for. If you've ever been to Covent Garden probably you wished you have the money to buy at least 80% of the stuff you saw. But I remember the first time one of my friends brought me here, I said something like: "Thank God I don't have any money with me". This is the kind of shop where I can easily spend my monthly wage in less than 1h. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this store and I am not a comic book person, movie fanatic, or any cosplay lover. I'm an average person who just really likes cool looking action figures and movie props. The last time I went to this store there was LIFE SIZED ALIEN (from the movie Alien) egg in the window! How epic is that! I love that store. The have all the Funko Pop bobble heads, movie posters and a glass case full of porcelain action figures that I could never afford. Downstairs is where the comics and other books are held. I try to make it a point to get to this store every time I visit London, even though I never buy anything. It's a great store and you could literally spend hours in there. Without doubt the biggest sci-fi, comic, film shop i've ever been in. As you enter the glass cabinets full of super heroes, film tie-ins etc beckon you in. Over two floors, first floor mainly toys from TV and film and some mags. Downstairs rows and aisles of books, Dvds, comics, mags, etc. All in category. They certainly don't compete with smaller stores on prices, but you simply can't beat the sheer mass of stock on offer, something that makes the visit worthwhile. Love this place a geeks paradise.

Be warned this is Geek Paradise! It's a place where you visit once and you never want to leave! Forbidden Planet really is London's best geek culture store, I say "geek culture", as it sells all things including comics, graphic novels (large collection here), toys, memorabilia, DVDs, Manga, magazines, and figurines. The whole lot!! Usually go here for comics and graphic novels, and everytime I go there, they always the latest stuff and more importantly the latest and greatest trend in comics and graphic novels - they got a dedicated top 20 list for them! For example, recently Batman Origins game had been released, so they placed a lot of Batman New 52 and Arkham graphic novels in the basement. Also because Game Of Thrones is releasing a new series, they have a whole section of memorabilia on this at the moment. It's amazing! And they are usually good value! be sure to visit to see the figurine section on the left of the entrance to see the latest comic figurines, some are limited edition and check out the £1 for four comics downstairs. read more

I wish we had comic shops like this in the states. Three stories of awesomeness. I ended up getting the Dan Abnett Judge Dredd comics I couldn't find in California here when I was in town for a week. Plus they had the newest Warhammer 40k rpg book before it was available on Amazon. I visited this shop some years ago, and I am planning a trip here again soon. A must for any sci-fi and fantasy fans. I spent a whole day in the basement floor. Books galore!! I can't wait for my next visit. Being a big Doctor Who fan, I will definitely buy some stuff here. I wonder if there is some shop that sells suitcases around the corner. The problem with this shop is that it makes you think your obsessive adolescent behaviour is acceptable because you are surrounded by friends and people like Simon Pegg visit. No this place is junkie heaven my friends, junkie heaven. Walking through the enormous yet crowded entrance you are confronted immediately my friends with a vast glass display cabinet of superhero models, saliva starts forming and soon you are drooling and dribbling at all the comic and film merchandise noone needs but everyone loves. How i never bought a Deathproof skull necklace I will never know my friends. Downstairs is comic heaven, all the new stuff confronts you like a bold lady of the night, tempting you to sample the delights inside. Why not the new recoloured Killing Joke? Or the deluxe league of extraordinary gentlemen? Time stops like a Las Vegas casino and you depart in a similar fashion, pockets empty, house gone, but with bags full of treasure for you to stroke through your declining years in your pet free home. read more

everytime i'm in london I have to visit the forbidden planet. and it always ends up in at least an hour and a half of looking, searching, touching, reading, wondering and so on and so on. and of course spending quite a lot of money. and I never regret it. was great many moons ago when they still believed in back issues but i guess there ae ust a bazillion new comics hitting the shelves every week. they have a good selection of manga comics and many over priced dvds and books. the memorabilia from films is outstanding and like nothing in london. replica lord of the rings swords and all kinds of star wars shit. real good. tshirt selction aint up to par considering how formidable they are, read more

Words cannot describe how much I love this store. Being a geek myself, it's a bit like heaven for me wandering around and seeing all the goods on offer. Upstairs you'll find everything from models and toys to t-shirts and novelty items, whilst downstairs is dedicated to comics and books. Seriously, you could easily spend hours just browsing through the various reading material (and I highly suspect people do!) The staff are more often than not enthusiasts as well, which makes for a really welcoming atmosphere. read more

An excellent place to find anything to do with Sci-fi and fantasy. You will find things that are no where else in London. Can be expensive and certain toys etc can be cheaper elsewhere but an excellent place to visit and lose yourself in. read more

The perfect place for all your Sci-Fi Comics etc. Upstairs is all about TV such as Doctor Who and downstairs is Comics, books and DVD's. Some things can be expensive but it really is the only place to get imported goods. Can get busy at the weekend so if you can go during the week day. The staff know their stuff and are very helpful. read more
