Had a great time here. We had good service, and my wife thought I was crazy for ordering the Brussel sprouts. Let me tell you, those are a game changer. They cooked perfect, had nice buttery taste with a hint of lime and some kind of nut as part it. I was very happy I ordered and actually think my wife ate more than me. Checked out FR as a lunch option on Sunday. Drinks-I ordered a Cosmic Trust Fall DIPA and I can't recommend that enough, hazy and delicious. Jordie, my wife got a fruited sour that I can't remember but was also good. For lunch I went with the special which was the Pork roast and Jordie went with a small plate salad called "Strawberry Fields". (also, the small plates here are regular plates and the large plates are huge plates, so just a heads up.) and the gazpacho. She commented while both were great, if she knew the salad was gonna be that big, she would have just ordered that, but no harm done, she enjoyed both and brought the Gaz home. We sat outside in between FR and Beeline. Beautiful atmosphere, only one problem. I feel like FR and Beeline were battling with who's music could be louder haha. It was fun trying to listen to the kinda folksy music from FR and the mainstream music coming from Beeline. Again, I was fine with it, but some would probably complain but eh. We happened upon the Forbidden Root and were very pleased. The service Kris and Micheal gave greeted us warmly. They gave great recommendations from the beer to the food. I loved the Duck with ricotta gnocchi. It wasn't what I envisioned. Much better. My husbands salmon sandwich was another surprise and delish! The only disappoinment was the pierogis were sold out. I liked that the menu noted the Chef's names. Its great to see a place appreciate it staff enough to put their names in print. We will go back again. read more

Forbidden Root has become a favorite for sure. My girlfriend and I have become regulars. They keep the beer selection new and interesting. The food menu is also unique. We've sampled a number of the items and everything has been outstanding. I do want to give a special shout out to the bartender Martin. He was able to craft a special version of a Cosmo for my girlfriend. She's notoriously difficult to please, so for him to accomplish this and then continue to refine the drink each time we visit is what makes this place special. read more

We went there on a Friday night and it happened to be Black Friday. We did make a reservation and we were taken right back, however our seat was right next to an exit door for people to go out to smoke. I had the smoked pork sandwich. It was fine and honestly I really liked the fried. They were the thin style and fried crispy. The slaw on the pork though was marginal at best. I wish it was seasoned better and had carrots. The one common comment I heard from my table was that their food was a bit too spicy. One got the Mac n cheese and it was not like any Mac I've seen before (not talking about the noodles, it was the cheese sauce). My biggest "issue" was price for what you got, but that was me. I just didn't see it as a good value. It was a bit different and maybe next time I need to try something besides a sandwich. read more

Went on a Sunday night with a few friends. I would say the best part of the experience was the server Tatiana very courteous and great personality, and good knowledge of the menu. Nice beer selection, food menu seem very unorganized. It was tough to gauge a theme for the menu. Ordered a charcuterie board and some wings. The Board was the first that I've had that didn't have any cheese selections. It was just 3 different meats pretty small portion for $21.00, with no cheese and very small portion of bread. We asked for more bread they gave us like 2 pieces that im surprised they even had back there b/c they were so small. The wings were decent, they came with some pickled peppers. After we finished we noticed that they had shorted us a wing, as joke we told the server. She stated she would take care of it, and get us a few more. The manager comes out with a single wing on a large plate and hands it to the table, was very off-putting vibe. Idk I they have a Nazi kitchen manager, and portions are controlled down to the crumb. It just seems since they just opened customer experience with the menu would be a higher priority, or maybe better descriptions. If you decide to go I'd suggest ask for Tatiana to make your experience the best it can be, or maybe just sit at the bar for a quick beer. read more

We made our first trip to forbidden root for my birthday with a group of 14 people. I can definitely agree with those who mentioned that their beer was underwhelming. However, I can say that our server was EXTREMELY accommodating when one of my friends did not like the beer that he ordered. He let her know he couldn't stomach it. She laughed and said "oh yeah, that one is a "girly" beer, I'll get you one you'll like". Sure enough, she was able to suggest one that was more up his alley. The food was quite good. I had the Reuben which included thick cut (not dried out) corned beef, just the right amount of Kraut, and plenty of 1000 island. Five stars because we would come back, and bring out-of-town guests. Came in on a Tuesday night around nine. Our server Nick was excellent and extremely attentive. Our dishes came out very quick as well. My boyfriend and I aren't big drinkers so we stuck with water. Ordered the spiced olives as a starter-these were tasty but pretty standard, meaning we enjoyed but also we love any olives. For our main plates we ordered the schnitzel and the duck dumplings dish. These were both amazing. Splitting hairs here, but the schnitzel could have used a little more seasoning. But paired with the slaw, bun and beets, it was a perfect bite. The dumplings dish was equally good if not better-the perfect combo of flavors especially if you like it salty. The portions were generous, but still felt appropriate for the price point.
