Set the scene: the establishment was very busy due to a convention- the bartender handling business on 6/29 was EPIC. She was non-stop, handling drinks for tables and for the bar. She was a pro! Music matched the atmosphere--indie-rock/punk was a good groove to the historic atmosphere. Food came out hot, fresh as expected. Beer - I tried many of the tap brews. Many recommendations made by the bartender were on point. Coming from an area with many breweries, she made the visit and the brews themselves were tasty. Took a growler home (200miles away). Had a weeknight dinner with friends. The dining room was mostly empty and the lively atmosphere was missing. Nice selection of house brews and my lager was quite good. The menu was an eclectic mix of plates. Nice variety of choices. We ordered apps and dinner. Many opted for the daily soup which was a bean and noodle concoction that was reported as delicious by all. I ordered poutine, a personal favorite that I rarely see on Columbus menus. It was well prepared with the potatoes deeply fried to hold up against the gravy. Quite tasty. I was told that the crab cakes were delicious. Nobody seemed dissatisfied. However I question the compliment given the diner that raved about her salad--a wedge salad of lettuce with a few split cherry tomatoes and a coating of a bottled dressing--maybe she had a lettuce craving. I took issue with the service. The food came out staggered instead of all at the same time. Poor judgment in the kitchen to fire dishes in an incorrect order. The server mixed up both the orders, and the checks. Very distracted as I believe we were her only table. Overall this is just another brewpub without any real reason to stand out. Meh. read more

We decided to try this restaurant on a Friday night during happy hour. We were going to sit at the bar, but the bar seats were very wobbly. We sat at a table in the front bar, in full view of the servers and bartenders. The wine pours are generous and the beer selection is good, and tasty. However, the food is another story. Our appetizer was calamari. It was fried, and the batter was dark. However, the texture of the calamari itself was terrible, and inedible. It was undercooked on the inside, and it felt slippery. I actually love calamari, but this one I had to spit into my napkin. We returned it to the kitchen, and it was removed from our bill The entrees were the Thai steak salad, and a wedge salad with salmon. The Thai salad was good, but it includes cheddar cheese, which is not usually a Thai ingredient. The wedge salad was way over dressed with blue cheese dressing, and the salmon was again inedible. It was two small pieces that appeared to be ends, not a piece. The two salmon hockey pucks were WAY over cooked, and when tapped with a fork, they made a hollow banging sound. The inside had a sawdust appearance, and were left on the plate. We did not want to return a second item, but interestingly enough, the server did not ask why the entire dish was still on the plate. Finally, the service. Our waitress needs more training. The first drink order was promptly taken and delivered. For our second order we had to go to the bar ourselves and order, and the bartender delivered it. We weren't drinking fast, there was just no return of our server to the table, and we were only one of two tables in the bar. When we were finished eating, we couldn't get the attention of our server AJ because she was on her phone at the end of the bar. We finally put our plates on the table next to us to signal that we were finished. The only reason that I gave this more than one star is because of the great drink selection. We made our first trip here today. We made a reservation for 2pm and it really was not necessary. The guy who seated us said really not necessary between 1:00 and 4:00. The bartender waited on us. He took our order and made me a Pink Diamond cocktail and brought my husband a porter. The porter was not what my husband wanted. He wanted the Hoster's Eagle Dark from the menu but they were out of it. I ordered The Rock Filet and along with that came a petite salad, I chose spinach salad. A side came with it as well and I chose the house veg which is zucchini, carrot, broccoli, and cauliflower. The house veg ended up being a throw away as they were undercooked and underseasoned. The steak came out to the table sizzling and 3 sauces came with it. He said it is best to cut the steak in strips to cook it on the stone. I cooked mine medium rare and it was excellent, so were the sauces. My husband had the 14 oz ribeye and it was cooked right and good as well. He liked his garlic mashed potatoes also. I ordered an Espresso Martini and creme brulee. I like a harder burnt sugar crust on my brulee but it turned out to have really good flavor. We would go back. read more

Stopped in for a quick lunch bite after attending a retirement party for a former employee of mine. Hadn't been to this gorgeous restaurant for a while & already want to come back in again! Such beautiful artwork, hand carved wood, gold guilt, & stained glass throughout! All of my old favorites on the menu - had this delicious chicken penne today in a diablo crème sauce. But I ansolutely must revisit right away to have the "rock filet" - which is an amazing steak that you personally cook at your table on a tulikivi firestone. The cauliflower was too hot!! The poutine was damp under cooked fries and brown gravy dumped on top. My meal was mushroom ravioli. Came to the table luke warm. Pasta had been cooked before and the poured sauce on top. Pasta was very chewy. Ordered dessert and the carrot cake was yummy. Steve was my guy! He was excellent, great recommendation, funny and even laughed at my non funny jokes about absolutely nothing. Now let's get into it! I started with Baked Brie- it was good wouldn't say it was amazing or I would order again. Just wasn't for me! First course I had a wedge salad- delish and clue what their dressing is but I loved it. Third course was an Elevator Club- 10/10 so great! Very filling and huge, side of mashed potatoes that was outstanding good. I didn't even use salt and pepper oddly enough. I'll probably order another one sometime this week to go lol. Dessert was carrot cake, again another delicious dessert! Flavors is there! Larger then I expected but given the price point it was prefect size. However I would order without the berry/purple sauce that comes on and I would ask for them warm it some before receiving it. Maybe order around entree time and let it sit under heat lamp. Cold cake is the worst, in my opinion of course! The only thing I would say needs work on is the speed of drinks, had a very long time for both rounds of cocktails. Other then that thanks for an wonderful experience! Art Deco Style Restaurant and Bar in a Historic Building. While in Columbius for a conference, we were looking for a spot downtown to host a dinner for staff and customers for our last night in town. I chose the Elevartor due to it's menu and proximity to everyones hotels and the conference center. This restaurant had an ideal menu that I know everyone would enjoy. The Bar was a great place to have a drink or two while waiting for everyone to arrive. There was enough seating and a Big screen TV to captivate our saport fans in the group. Once everyone arrived, we went into the restaurant and sat at a long table that we had reserved. We started by ordering several apps for the menu for everyone to try. My favourite was their take on Poutine. The Elevatoprs poutine was drenched in brown gravy and topped with cheese curds on a bed of fresh and piping hot fries with braised beef thrown in to enhance the flavours. I started with a serving of Wings and then ordered their 'Steak on a Stone', a 6oz beef tenderloin served on a firestone, with assorted sauces for you to dip the sirloin in. I let my tenderlion cook about a minute on each side and had mine medium rare. The service was great, and all of the food came out in a timely fashion. We tried several cocktails and local craft beers to wash all of the food down. The group left happy, tipsy and full, and we all agreed that we had a great time. Went for a presale dinner in this historic restaurant. I had their signature, Steak on a Stone. You can order a beef tenderloin, with or without seafood (scallops and shrimp). It comes out raw but sizzling on a very hot stone. You cook it as you like. It comes with 3 dipping sauces, a small salad, and choice of side (you can substitute the salad for a second side). I thought it was delicious! It's subtly seasoned, so next time I'll add my own salt & pepper or ask them to season it a bit more. They have a nice selection of beers and wines. Service is excellent - they teach you how to safely cook your food on the stone and answer any and all questions. Our experience was better than anticipated. We arrived early for our reservation and were able to be seated right way. This dinner was special, a birthday and a rare trip to the "big city". We followed the host to our table. A beautiful private balcony with a single table that overlooked the restaurant. I'll be honest, I don't even know this table existed, but it couldn't have been more perfect for our occasion. We felt like royalty with a couple cocktails and the rock filet which is a must have experience if you love steak like we do. I think the experience would've be good either way, the building is historic and you can feel that just by being there, however the fact that we got to experience it in the way that we did made even more special. She was full of trivia about the building which used to be a 300 table five story billiard hall. The place is now a restaurant with a very large bar. The bar is beautiful. The restaurant has nice art work but feels very dated. Cannot attest to the food as we just stayed for drinks. So walked in for dinner and the host/hostess, not sure of the gender, was rude when he told us we could not sit nor were we allowed to wait. He provided no other option. You definitely feel the history of being in Columbus' second oldest building the moment you walk through the door. Excellent, vintage decor from the doors to the floors to the bar, itself. I had a couple of beers for happy hour (thumbs up for the Elevator Dark Force Lager and meh for guest pumpkin beer on tap). The sauerkraut balls were top-notch good, and the mustard dipping sauce made a great thing greater. The poutine was a faithful adaptation to the dish in terms of how the core ingredients (fries, curds, gravy) tasted. Elevator's version added braised beef and green onion which complemented and enhanced the flavor. It's good in its own right, but I'm still thinking about those sauerkraut balls. Extra props for the service, too. Our server Katie took good care and seamlessly handled our gift certificate when it was time for the bill. The experience was very nice. read more

The Elevator has been one of my go-to lunch spots downtown--just a short walk from my office. I usually order the almond-crusted chicken salad, which is always fantastic: fresh, satisfying, and full of flavor. After raving about it to my partner, he decided to take me there for a dinner date, and it didn't disappoint. For dinner, he ordered the crab cakes and I had the lamb fettuccine. Both were amazing. The crab cakes were packed with real crab (no filler here!) and came as three thick, generous portions--definitely great value for the price. The dipping sauce was a perfect complement and added a nice tang. The lamb fettuccine was a standout. The lamb was tender and deeply flavorful, and the whole dish had a rustic, homey feel. It's definitely on the heavier side, but in a cozy, comforting way--not overwhelming. All the food is just average and overpriced. I wanted to like this place but the food missed the mark. Service and lemonade are good but the food didn't have bold flavors. They have a lot of new Orleans titled food but none of it tastes like New Orleans. I'm from New Orleans so I was disappointed. The portions are small and you may leave hungry like we did. We had to send back the penni chicken because of the lacklustre flavors. The bright side is our server was excellent. She was very good. The other issue was the food didn't come with bread that doesn't happen in Nola. If they take pride in the sauce then you need bread to get it all in your belly. I don't recommend this restaurant. We tried. We really tried to like this place. As we sat down we made the mistake of reading other Yelp reviews. Too late to leave... we decided to give it a shot. We ordered poutine and the buffalo cauliflower, and 2 old fashioneds. The server, Shelby, asked if we wanted the draft version. We said yes. Bad mistake #1. The appetizers were delicious. Sadly that's where the good ended. The drinks were truly undrinkable. Awful. Fast forward to the meals. We ordered chicken wings with chili garlic sauce and the almond crusted chicken salad. Wings: freezer burnt and the sauce was inedibly hot. The salad, edible but not good. The chicken had no flavor. After the awful old fashioned debacle we opted to switch to Manhattans. What came to the table was a drink so heavy with vermouth and bitters it was as dark as a Coke and undrinkable. We let Shelby know that we were not happy with our drinks and meals, she seemed completely uninterested in our dissatisfaction and said the drinks were not great because the bartender was new and "in training." If that. Were the case someone should have been checking his work. Overall this place clearly exists to serve those attending shows at The Palace or other nearby venue, particularly those that come in from out of town. The sauces and dressings were unlike any I've ever had - unique flavors that were subtle and not syrupy sweet. The generous portion of steak in our salad melted in our mouths. We went to Elevator for a birthday dinner recently and it was good not great. The restaurant, particularly the enterance is beautiful - lots of dark wood and a very cool mosaic tile floor. We were a party of 20 with reservations. I think we had 1 server assigned to our table. She was very efficient and pleasant. Overall, though, service was quite slow. We ordered drinks, then dinner, then more drinks before the food came out. Our reservation was for 6 and we got our meals at 7:30, with bread probably around 7. Bread came with an herbed butter that everyone really enjoyed. I had the shrimp and grits for dinner. I liked the shredded greens on top, but the grits were almost soup-y and the shrimp got buried in the grits so you had to fish around for it. It was ok, but I've had better. I ordered the Grand Marnier crepes for dessert. There were 2 small to medium crepes with the Grand Marnier sauce, ice cream, and berries. They were delicious!
