Server was really helpful. I got a flight based on his recommendations and it was good to taste. Oddly, the hazy was my least favorite which usually that's the one I like the best. The west coast ipa was my favorite of the ones I tried. Burger was great and half off with a pint, which was a great surprise. First time at Derive. Good amount of parking. The space is somewhat small but is done well. The bar has a good vibe and is where I sat. I got the Korean BBQ smash burger topped with Korean BBQ aioli, Cleveland Kraut Kimchi, gochugaru (korean chili flake) and scallion. I don't understand the smash burger craze since I like my burgers medium rare, but if I have to eat a smash burger to enjoy these toppings, I'm in! The heat, texture and combination of flavors were epic. The fries are well done too! They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and this was even after 30 minutes. Nothing fancy but done amazingly well and very quickly. My burger was out in a few minutes. I will say that the pizzas I saw coming out of the kitchen will have me coming back to try one of them. The beer was good, although I'll admit that the heat from the burger affected my pallet to truly enjoy the beers since I got a tasting flight. I was here on a Friday night between 5:45 and 7 and it was filling up until I was ready to head out. They do have happy hour on Friday from 2-5pm for $1 off pints. read more

Normally just stop in for beers but on this visit we decided to try a pizza. It is a tavern style pizza with a slightly thicker crust which was nice and crunchy. I've been here twice over the years, including a stop most recently after work on a Wednesday evening in November. The staff are SUPER friendly and welcoming. I loved that. I appreciate when walking into someplace I'm unfamiliar with, I am welcomed in graciiously, even though they don't know me at all. I ordered a flight of beer so I could try a few different beers. I also ordered a pint afterward of one of the IPAs I enjoyed. My server recommended some flavors to try while I was there and he was spot on. (I interacted with two different servers, one male, one female, both equally helpful and friendly). I would return, only in part for good beer, moreso it's the inviting feel I get from this place. My favorite brewery in Columbus! Why? The vibe is extremely friendly and the brewer(s) are extremely technically competent. It's very rare that you get both of these things simultaneously. You do get the friendly, gregarious brewers that make beer that is...fine. And then you've got the low emotional intelligence brewers that are brewing wizards. The folks that run this place are both. Tiny update: tried the chicken tikka pizza today. Instead of pizza sauce I think they use tikka marsala,,, cheese, chicken herbs spices amd jalapeños. Its quite good. As usual service was top notch. Went to Derive tonight for dinner and a couple beers. Great atmosphere tonight - more than half full and warm and inviting. Good variety on the beer menu with several interesting looking collabs. I had a flight of mostkynIPAs and they were varied and good. Had the cauliflower wings with sabauce, an Indian sauce. The wings were crisp and the sauce was really good! My first experience having Derive was blindly picking up a hazy IPA crowler of theirs at Savor Growl a few years ago. I remember liking the beer, and I was hoping for good things when I chose to visit on a recent Saturday night. Without a doubt, the place delivered. Easy parking in their lot led to easy seating at that bar for the Mrs and me. She went the cocktail route, but I was there for the beer. I had their 'Friends' flight of four beers influenced by hops from different regions. All four were on point. Definitely recommend. The menu was more robust than you would expect from a brewery, and the Thanksgiving Poutine and Loaded Fries were some of the tastiest bar carbs I've had in a while. Both were full of flavors without being too sloppy. Another pleasant surprise was the decor. Cool chandeliers, sports on TV and even a fire pit for your outdoor consumption. My wife and I love coming to Derive. They have great beer and the food is always really well made and delicious. They have great specials as well. Wednesday is half off burger day - and their smash burgers are killer! The wings here are amazing as well - easily some of the best in Columbus. The staff here are always very friendly and quick to bring another round. They have several TVs so it's a fantastic place to watch a game. Located next to Lucky's supermarket, there is a nice little patio area. Last time we were there we sat at the bar though. Inside is very cozy and they always play an interesting mix of music. Overall, Derive is just a nice neighborhood brewpub that always offers an enjoyable experience. read more

Came here with a friend for dinner. They were having a special of buy a pint and get 1/2 off their standard burger. We both ordered the burger special and I added a wedge salad. The wedge came out early and was huge. Was plenty to share so I cut in half. I don't like bleu cheese dressing so I ordered ranch but did expect bleu cheese crumbles and it didn't have any so that was disappointing. Nonetheless I would order again and I loved. The burger. Parking: they have a lot and it was super easy Service: our waiter was attentive and quick but not over bearing Food: I got their smash burger deal (burger + chips and a beer for $12 on Wednesdays) - so great!! The burger was a good size but appropriately thin for a smash burger, well seasoned and not too greasy. Their house sauce was delicious! It does come with a good bit of lettuce so if lettuce isn't your thing I'd ask them to leave it off rather than thinking you'll just pick it off. This was my favorite stop from our trip to Columbus! Got to try some good beers, yummy pizza, and admire the cool tree sculpture that grows from the center of the room! My fiancé tried the Lettuce King, which was a little too IPA-y for me, but I had the Living the Dream, which was a lager, and was perfect for what I wanted. We also split the Ohio Pepperoni pizza. We went to Derive Brewing after the OSU game. It is definitely worth a visit. No surprise, they have a great and wide beer selection. All of us found something we liked and enjoyed them. I had a saison called Well Positioned. It was excellent (and was perfect with pizza). None of us tried it, but they had a beer called Teddy Grahams with milk stout. While waiting for pizza, I had the hummus. The hummus was good, but they served it with potato chips. That was definitely different, but think I prefer it was vegetables or pita chips. For the pizza, we had something called the "I Like to Party." It came with sausage, pepperoni, and veggies. It was really good with a very nice sauce and crust. The toppings were great also. 2nd Wednesday date here, and it'll definitely be a regular spot for us! Can't beat burger, fries, and a pint of beer for $14, especially for the quality of everything. My last review holds true, but I'll comment on the different things we tried today! The drinks were delicious! Well, I don't like Manhattans, and my partner doesn't like beer - but our drinks were delicious for who it was meant for :P I had the Mr. Tastee: Blueberry Crumble beer, which was very lightly carbonated and almost creamy. It is sour, as it's meant to be, but the cinnamon and marshmallow notes made for great sweet undertones and a warm, sweet aftertaste. The Manhattan was definitely a very strong sipper, and my partner really liked it. We were very sad to see the Kimchi burger was gone, but my partner tried the Jalapeño Popper Burger instead. We agreed it was a great concept and very yummy in some bites, but it was poorly constructed. The creamy sauce was only present on some parts, so it was very jalapeño in some bites, very popper in others. We did love the added texture of the fried onion and enjoyed the overall taste, but it'd be a lot better if more carefully made. It's not as pleasant of a spice without the sauce. Lastly, we sat inside today for the first time. It's definitely a much louder and overstimulating environment than the calmer, more intimate outdoor seating, but I suppose that's to be expected on cold day when a special is taking place. You do get checked on much more often if you sit inside. And the decor is very pretty. Can't wait to come back here and try more! read more

This is a newer brewery that I noticed for the past few months whenever I went next door to Lucky's Market. I came on a Thursday to get drinks with a friend. I liked everything I had! I got an IPA and a milkshake beer. Refreshing! There were definitely a number of people here. Folks sitting inside and outside in their patio. There are a lot more young adults here. Loved seeing it since most breweries I've been to in town had older adults. I didn't feel out of place! Staff was fantastic! Really friendly! We ordered our drinks at the counter, but they had the chance to come around and take our empty glasses and ask if we wanted anything else. They do serve food here! I saw a lot of people ordering pizza and burgers. Smelled so good! There's a fun looking tree in the metal made from chains. A bunch of locks with peoples names on it hung from it. A group of us stopped by for a quick Wednesday night dinner since the weather was so beautiful! They have great outdoor patio seating as well as a large garage door to make the inside feel more open. Their menu has a lot of very interesting items including a chicken tikka pizza!! We opted to try their smash burger special, which gets you a beer, chips, and a 1/3 burger for $12!! I tried the Mexican lager which was slightly hoppy with a good punch of lime. The burger was also fantastic, maybe one of my favorites in Columbus. There's a small patio out front with a few tables and heaters. We tried a sampling of beers and enjoyed them all. We shared an order of wings and a pizza. Both were good. Service was good. I met friends for happy hour on a very cold Friday evening back in January of this year (2022). I never made it to this space when it was originally SIP Local, but apparently most things have stayed the same except the owners and name has changed hands. I like the space. It's got a campy vibe, imo, I think due to the dark green walls and chain-link tree smack in the center of the room. A cool touch. There's a Wednesday nite special - their Smash Burger, chips and a beer all for $11 but they didn't (and still don't) have any food happy hour specials. Their menu is viewable via QR code (see pic). All pizzas are 12" cut into 6 slices. I tried their Luke Trio (I adore sausage and mushrooms of all kind). It was quite good. The toppings filled a good portion of the dough and tasted really good. I'm not the biggest fan of artisanal pizzas, as they seem to lack toppings and leave waaaaay to much crust leftovers - I want protein/toppings not dough - so this was a solid experience. There's free parking in the lot in front of Derive, and they have a front patio (on the small side) for nice days. read more

It is a busy place between at least between 5-7 pm but after it is a breeze; the reason of this highlight is because it is a fairly medium sized place and you definitely need to wait if you go in peak hours. read more
