This was my first experience in using a currency exchange and although I think it could have gone better, it was a faster and easier experience than having my bank providing the exchange (this would have taken at least two business days and I'd have to be home to sign for the FedEx delivery of the money). I called and spoke to Mr. Yoon, the owner, a few times and went by his shop a few times when I was in the area, and he was kind and as helpful as possible during each interaction. He was easy to get a hold of over the phone as well and was in the store during the posted hours in which I visited. The only reason for my four-star review is that it was frustrating to hear that Mr. Yoon only had large bills to offer in the exchange, 500 pesos and nothing smaller. When I went by the store yesterday, he stated I could call and ask if he had small bills in and when I called today, he said he will not get them in at all... It would have saved me some time if he had told me this yesterday, but oh well. I will now worry about getting change while overseas... There are clearly posted signs in the store that credit cards are not accepted, but Mr. Yoon does take cash and checks (with ID). Oh, one thing I greatly appreciated is that I owed him $0.12 (which I didn't have), but he was kind enough to say I didn't have to worry about it! Since my exchange was less than $500, I paid only $5 for the transaction fee. FYI There is paid garage parking (under the building and across the street) and street parking near the store. I've only had good experiences here. It's only $5 to change your dollars to Euros (under $500), which is perfect. Service is prompt and efficient, though he does step away occasionally. I'll continue to use this exchange in the future. read more

Though the hours of operation are clearly marked as 9a-5p, apparently the employee takes a lunch break. As you can imagine, lots of customers stopped by during their lunch hour only to find a sign on the door "will return at 12:50p". Not helpful. The hours of operation need to be updated to include lunch breaks. On top of it all - after waiting for the hour lunch break - he doesn't carry Jamaican dollars! It's not an uncommon currency. Finally in a dismissive tone he told me "they take American dollars in Jamaica." Thanks, sir. read more

This is a place where you can buy and sell foreign currency in case you are going overseas and need money there or vice versa. Unfortunately, they do not deal in coins. According to the guy, no one deals in coins. So I am stuck with my 23 Swiss francs. Anyone going to Switzerland? When ever I go to Europe, I just use my US ATM card at the ATMs. I end up with a pretty good rate. Just about any restaurant in France, at least, will take a card, so I don't have much need for these places. I exchanged just over 100 for 75 British pounds sterling at this exchange in Bethesda. (Not a good rate, especially with added 5 dollar fee, but I took it with eyes open. Fair enough.) As we were concluding the transaction, I mentioned to the clerk that I had a little bit of pound sterling at home that I thought might have expired in the last year or two and asked if they could trade it out. He said, "no" but that I should take it to a bank in England. Fair enough. After all, they are an exchange, not a bank. Problem: When I returned home, I realized that one of the 3 10 -pound notes he had JUST handed me (and I, admittedly, had not looked at carefully) was not like the two others. I realized that it was just like one of the notes I had at home that had expired in March, 2018. He had just given me money that had been taken out of circulation and is not accepted as legal tender in the UK as of over 1 year ago, according to the Bank of England website. I would like to assume that they would correct the mistake if I go back over there. But, I don't have 1/2 hour to go back over there and pay for parking to deal with this and no means of proving what happened since I left the place an hour before. But it is inexcusable for an exchange to give out currency--however small the amount-- that is not current, valid legal tender. The pound sterling is hardly an obscure currency for a foreign exchange to keep track of. I guess I should have checked online to know what was old and what was new before going over there and looked very carefully at what I was handed. I expect this sort of thing abroad, not here. Absolutely terrible. I downloaded the app and created an account specifically to write this review. He wouldn't exchange my Canadian cash because it happened to be 'old' currency. It was still one hundred percent valid currency and yet he would not accept it. He told me to go to Canada. Going there was a mistake and he never picks up the phone during office hours. Travel abroad once a year, and go to this place. It is conveniently located in Bethesda, just off Wisconsin. The rate is better than Travelex: $5 up to $500, then, 1%. So to exchange over $800 USD cost me only $8 and change. Also, if you have any currency to sell back when you come home, the service fee is waived. But best of all, the gentleman who runs it is extremely courteous, efficient, honest, and reliable. Highly recommend. Be advised for large exchanges in infrequently used currencies he may require up to 2 weeks advance notice, so please plan ahead. Also, note that the 3 star review was from someone discontent about not being able to exchange coins-- but that is standard practice! read more
