Horrendous rates, went in to exchange dollars for Colombian Pesos and he tells me the rate that was just an insult. I ask him why this rate (keep in mind the peso is at 3,700 to the dollar and he was offering about 3,000) more than 20% wasted. [[HIGHLIGHT]]He provides no explanation just flips his computer for two seconds and says that's the rate.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He has a horrible attitude and would highly advise just withdrawing from the atm at one time and eating the fees. After receiving wrong information from my bank about obtaining foreign currency I thought I have no other choice but to go to Travelex. I did a quick Google search for Travelex dc area and somehow I found Treasure Trove. Because I was multitasking I thought it was an actual Travelex location. So when the owner said "Treasure Trove" when he answered the phone I was a bit confused and asked "is this Travelex?" He responded "No and Travelex is way more expensive!" That, of course immediately got my attention. So I asked if he had the 2 currencies I was looking for (Argentine peso & Brazilian real), and indeed he did. However, our rates are low determined by CXI and my inventory is strictly inventoried and reported weekly to ensure that our customers receive the exact amount due. We have extremely high customer satisfaction and our rates are much lower than our competitors. After 9 years of service, we have rarely have had a low review. I've been to Treasure Trove many times, both for currency exchange and watch repair/battery services. I love them. Friendly, professional, and I'm always able to get in and out quickly. If you need a currency that they don't have on hand, you can just call in and request it, and they'll have it for you the next business day! They have good exchange rates and are very transparent on their fees, which are low. The other day, I needed the battery replaced in a special watch I received as a gift in Korea. It doesn't have a typical build and I could tell that it was going to be hard to open. They managed to do it without scratching the crystal, which was great. I come back every time! read more

We went here a few days before we left for South Africa. The customer service was great and we were able to get the South African rand without a problem. I feel like their rates are better than other travel currency exchanges we have used in the past. The only challenge we had is that they did not have the Mauritian Rupee. Went into this business on my first trip to Mexico and thought I was getting 300 worth of Mexican money. First mistake I was on the phone when I went in . This happened last year and I didn't yelp about it but I did report to better business bureau. The older man dipped me for $150. I was mad then but not anymore. This place is a great place to convert currency! Super easy and fast. My friend and I came into the store to convert USD to Mexican pesos for our cancun trip and the process was very simple. The man working there was nice and helpful. XE.com says that $98USD is equal to 1795 MXN. I got back 1600 MXN (195 MXN short). That must have been the conversion fee (which is about $10 USD). I just called to ask for exchange rates and what the fees are and the guy who answered the phone sounded so agitated.

I was trying to sell some foreign currency I had left over after a trip and was quoted the wrong amount (not even close, less than 1/4 of what I expected it to be worth, even with a low exchange rate). I thought maybe I had done the math wrong, and when I tried to pull out my phone to check, was told very patronizingly and exasperatedly to "put away your phone" and that his quote was absolutely right and to take it or leave it. I left and fortunately figured out my bank would just exchange it for me at exactly the rate I had been expecting. read more

I did my research and they were by far the quickest and the cheapest. No bait and switch. I tried the place at Union Station and I was not pleased with what they offered just to exchange currency and then if you do this and that you get this.... Who has time for that. BEWARE OF THE BAIT AND SWITCH! The customer service here is atrocious. I called to get the exchange rate and was told it would be .70. I then went to the shop. When I walked in, the old guy at the counter did not even acknowledge me. I waited. And waited. Nothing. Maybe he didn't notice me. Giving the benefit of the doubt, I left and returned a few hours later. This time he actually said hello. When I approached the counter he acted as if I was invisible again. I told him I need currency exchanged. Begrudgingly, he went to the back office and brought back a computer. After putting in all the numbers he told me the rate would be .66. WHAT! My daughter called in yesterday to exchange some currency after being directed there by a local PNC branch. The man she dealt with summarily dismissed her enquiry. However the manner he did it in was appalling. He was rude, unhelpful and downright obnoxious.
