As a last minute decision, we decided to order online and pick up here for our first time. I ordered the 1/2 size smoked pork chops with a side salad, tostones and my boyfriend ordered 1/2 rack of ribs with rice and beans. I always order take out here. The tostadas are an awesome side, so is the rice. I have gotten the salmon a few times and my husband likes the ribs. The host there (who takes the orders too) is friendly. Other things we have tried are the ribs and the bbq chicken. A whole size is a lot of food and you can definitely split between 2-3 people FYI. I ordered their garlic chicken breast with rice and beans full order. There were 5 small strips of chicken breast, the rest was all rice and beans that were from a can. My wife is Cuban, I know rice and beans and this was probably canned Goya,.She knew immediately that it was canned beans,.If there was garlic on the chicken, it must have been lightly sprinkled garlic powder. It was hands down the worst tray of food we'd ever eaten. Our family of 3 was starving after eating this RIPOFF ($15 plus tax). Do yourselves a favor, go across the Goethals Bridge to Elizabeth NJ and get a tray of anything from Stephanies BBQ. You get enough food to feed five for $14 and the food is delicious. Simple tasty Portuguese BBQ chicken. Had the half chicken and the garlic chicken. Garlic chicken is a seasoned chicken filet (not on the bone) but it's a really delicious seasoning on. The rice and beans are perfect. And the cheese empanadas are delicious. Everything is made fresh while you wait so you know it's not sitting around. The food is ok but if you are expecting portions like you get in Newark NJ barbecue joints forget it, they are about half the size for the same price. The people in their seem nice and are happy to serve you but, I'm not sure 18 bucks for something I could get for half the price for a few miles away in jersey. My first experience with this place was not a good one. I called ahead to order so that pick up would be swift and easy. When I called, my order was quickly dismissed and I was told to "just come in." So I thought nothing of it and decided to just take the drive. Once I got there I had to re-submit my order and wait more than 30mins. The cashier was on her cell phone the entire time and paid no attention to me or the other 4 people waiting for their food. When I finally got to sit and eat my food it was not worth the wait at all. The chicken was a lil on the dry side and the rice had zero flavor. Needless the say I will not be going back. Ordered from this place a couple of times they give very big portions and the rice and sides are great. They are true BBQ joint not southern but Portuguese BBQ. The garlic chicken and shrimp are delicious. They do take a long time to deliver, but the food is always hot and fresh. Their prices are a little high but well worth it. read more

Rice and beans had a certain flavor that brought me back to eating my second mom's home cooked meals. Empanada was actually really good. All came out to $7.50. Nothing fancy or over the top. Just simple, fresh, yummy food. Place is small (not tiny as ppl make it seem), cute and clean. You can see the the food being made right behind the counter (open concept). I checked my bank statement and noted they charged my card 30 dollars. Called the manager, she was not very helpful. Will never order here again. Cash or card. That's not the way to do business. I just took it and left because I didn't want to miss my bus, when I got home I opened my box of food to see that I got one half piece of chicken breast, a small leg, a wing and a piece of thigh when I specifically asked her and paid for white meat... Small place with a few tables in front of the kitchen. Everyone was extremely nice and the service was good. We had the Ribs and the Garlic Chicken. The Ribs has a nice bark on them and good flavor. The Garlic Chicken was tender and tasty. The side Salad was good. A huge plus were the French Fries which should be easy to get right, but so many places get it wrong. Not here. This review is based solely on the food. I would give it one star but the service is good. Courteous staff and quick service. The food here is not good at all. Rice has a weird taste and is not at all flavorful. Not your typical Latin or Portuguese flavors. They give you so much rice and then like two tablespoons of beans. Chicken didn't taste fresh to me. The meat had an after taste and no real flavor. Salad was definitely old. Chopped up wilted lettuce and sharp tasting onions that had clearly been cut days prior. We also tried this overpriced shrimp meal and the shrimp lacked flavor and was over cooked. The French friends were all I enjoyed and I wouldn't come here again. 32 dollars for two people and I threw most of it away. Sorry but there is so much better latin food out here. Save your money. They need to invest in the quality of their food. I don't know if all these rave reviews or from friends and family or people just can't cook and/or don't know good food. read more

The people are very friendly. A half a chicken with canned black beans and rice was nine dollar. The chicken was dry and not seasoned well. I had order a full entrée of garlic shrimp with a salad. First the salad was iceberg lettuce tomato and slivers of red onion. The shrimp was small and presentation sucked they threw them in a white cup. I stated that I did not want the shrimp she stated there were 26 shrimp in the cup. Even the server thought it was a half an order. I sent the shrimp back kept the salad. I also order a cheese empanada. The empanada was great. we ate in no one offered us anything to drink no water no nothing, insult to injury was a half a chicken with white rice canned beans iceberg salad and empanada 20 bucks.
