I've been coming here for a while to get congee for myself and my family. Today, I went to grab an order of congee with fish and the fish just tasted rubbery and inedible. First time experiencing this and it did not leave a good taste in my mouth. I love their congee but after this one experience, I'm not sure if I want to go back.

I got a notification that there is a new authentic Cantonese restaurant/cafe/bakery in town in Staten Island. So I have to go check it out. At first glance, the space is not large. You enter and tables are right inside. This is probably one of the first most authentic Cantonese places I come across on the island. It is unique in a sense that it tries to accomplish so much and accommodate many populations at the same time. I can't tell you if I should call it a restaurant or cafe. For instance, right when you walk into the restaurant/cafe, you get a sense that if you want to sit down to eat and dine, you can expect services. Though, this is not typically how you'd feel if you were to walk into a Cantonese bakery. In a regular Cantonese cafe, you are not expecting services. Rather, you can buy a cup or milk tea or a Bao, and you can chill and gossip with your friends. To sum up, just know that you will get service if you are getting a meal here. The waitresses are incredibly nice and warm. In the left side of the room or straight ahead from the entrances, there are counters specifically for takeouts . I ordered 1lb roasted pork, Cheung fun, a honey tea, and a Bao. They are pricier than Manhattan and Brooklyn, however, all are incredibly delicious and authentic. I recommend it.

My mother in law bought food from this amazing restaurant. We were impressed with the fresh veggies and meat. Overall, great experience.

Came across this little gem which serves Chinese rice boxes and so much more. Their portions are quite large for the price. Staff are super friendly and nice. There are also tables for you to sit and eat as well. It is a mix of a bakery and a Chinese restaurant.

Nice portions. Shrimps in rice rolls are cleaned nicely unlike many dim-sum places. Many varieties of packaged steam buns for sale. Good brunch place.

This cafe has authentic Cantonese food and it is SO delicious! The star of the show is their 3 combination: roast pork, roasted pig (crispy skin), and roast duck leg dish over rice. Other items we ordered: Asian vegetables (choy sum), beef fried noodle, shu mai, shrimp rice noodle, and chicken feet. They have sauces on the table for you (soysauce, chili oil, hot sauce). They do sit down (4 seaters and a bar stool area) or take out. They also have a selection of steam buns that you can take home to steam (bbq roast pork bun, pork bun, chicken bun etc), we got the steam pork bun and it was delicious! It had bits of shrimp in it too! We microwaved it at home. They also have baked goods like pineapple bun, custard pineapple bun, hot dog bun and so on. Prices are reasonable! I will come back! The staff are so nice and attentive. When you come here you MUST get a roasted meat with rice!!! Staff speaks English, Cantonese, and mandarin. They have parking lot. Credit card (no extra fee) and cash accepted. For people who don't usually eat this and don't know what to order: --Entrees: get the roast pork over rice, crispy beef noodles (stir fry), wonton noodle soup with wonton in soup, beef chow fun (dry or gravy style) --Dimsum: egg tart (like Portuguese egg tarts), shrimp dumplings, siu mai --Drinks: ice lemon tea (will taste like ice tea)

Food is authentic and tastes good. Ordered some bbq meats, noodles and dim sum's. I was expecting a big Chinese banquet hall restaurant like in Chinatown from looking at the banner outside. This place is small with a few tables and some window seats.

    The rudest waitress.

one of the rudest restaurants I have ever been to. we are chinese and the waitress was extremely rude and yelling at us. that is not the way to build your customer base. I would gotten up, told her off in chinese, and walked out if we didn't have to stop to get food. this is the last time I will go to this trashy restaurant. we had also came here when they first opened for take out and their soy sauce chicken and cuttlefish was taste. don't come.

The rice noodle rolls were very bland. The soup sauce was not good. Although the taro dumpling were good.

(I say hot because I burnt my mouth taking my first bite haha...) I ordered the Beef Lo Mein, which was good but different from other lo meins I usually order because it had a more soupy sauce! I also got their iced Lychee Green Tea with Regular sugar, which I loved. Service was very fast and the inside of the place was nice and clean! 10/10 Would come back!

That's when we found Lion Dance in Staten Island. Honestly, I didn't expect much because this place is on Staten Island. I've lived here my whole life, and to be real, not a lot of food spots here are that good. I usually go to other parts of NYC to eat. But BOY, WAS I WRONG. I got the pork soup dumplings, lotus leaf steamed rice with beef and broccoli, shrimp siu mai, and a mango green tea with medium sugar and mango jelly. Everything was so good! The biggest surprise was the lotus leaf steamed rice, it had so much flavor and went perfectly with the beef. The portion was big too. The soup dumplings were juicy, the siu mai were fresh, and the mango green tea was super refreshing. Service was quick, the staff was friendly, and the place was clean and nicely decorated. Overall, I loved the food, the vibe, and the service. Definitely coming back and if you're from Staten Island, trust me, this spot is worth checking out!

The moment you walk in, you feel like you've been transported back in time to a Polynesian island. The décor is amazing and gives the whole place a warm, nostalgic atmosphere. We were seated right away, which was a great start. The only downside was the seating along the walls. Those tables are pretty tight, so they may not be very comfortable for larger guests. We started with the pu pu platter for two, and it was incredible. Everything on it was delicious, and they light the fire right in front of you so you can toast the items yourself. It was a fun experience and made the appetizer feel extra special. For our meals, we got the beef with broccoli and the pork lo mein. A lot of Chinese food can have that overly greasy texture, but that was not the case here. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and well prepared without being greasy. The portions were huge seriously, the egg roll was the size of a small child. That is probably where some of the extra oil came in, but it was nothing overwhelming or unpleasant. We finished with ice cream for dessert, and overall, it was an amazing meal from start to finish. Great food, great atmosphere, generous portions, and a fun dining experience. I would definitely recommend Jade Island.

Had an absolutely wonderful time here for my birthday!…read more The ambiance and decor is a 10/10. It's like being whisked away to a beautiful Polynesian island. Service was very friendly. They didn't flip out when I was running late (I'm still so sorry about that). And on top of being ok with us bringing a cake, they happily offered to bring it out with a candle and song, and offered to cut and serve it for us. Five stars already for that alone! Drinks were delicious and the food was such a delight. Crunchy chips were at the table with a delicious sweet dipping sauce to start. I ordered the Polynesian Coconut Chicken which was so good and quite sweet- of course due to the lychee, pineapple and cherries. Also ordered the steamed vegetable dumplings, which were tasty. After dinner, my friends and I then headed to their bar where they happily served us until nearly closing. They never once tried to push us out or point out the time. They made my birthday one to remember and I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu. I so wish I lived closer!
