As you know, COVID19 is here and has shut down pretty much everything! Although businesses are now open under strict rules, campground washrooms are off limits - even though campsites are permitted to open for business. The "new normal" is very different from what we were used to before! This year, we lucked in and found a trailer at an affordable price, so we can bring our own washroom with us! This was the 3rd campsite we have tried, and the biggest one of all so far (as well as the most expensive), although it obviously has no beach or waterfront anywhere near it. However, what they miss in the way of waterfront, they make up for in other ways: a full golf course; mini-putt; a petting zoo (some animals were absent because of COVID) (and you're not allowed to pet or feed the animals right now because of COVID); 4 pools of varying sizes; a bouncy jumping thing (not a castle); volley ball courts and tennis courts; and about 650 campsites. The place is massive! They have many many very impressive seasonal rentals, which have beautiful gardens. Downside: there is very patchy / non-existent internet available out there, although you can pay a fee for access once you're inside the park and registered. In fact, internet was so bad as we were approaching the site that we got lost on the way there! Good thing someone was still there to answer our call for help and guidance! As it was, we just made it under the wire with five minutes to spare. Another downer was the price; this place is double in price than the other 2 we stayed in previously. Spots were spacious enough. It was very busy and crowded when we were there; obviously the locals love it here. It's very popular.

The campgrounds are well maintained, roads are gravel and each permanent trailer spot has a good size plot of land. You feel comfortable enough to spread out a little and enjoy. As a community people are friendly and there are lots of families and the sounds of laughter and general good mood. The facilities include a splash pad that is extremely impressive, a heated pool, a playground, a natural pond, a hot tub, a picnic pavilion, a general store, a volleyball court, a basketball court, horseshoe pits, an outdoor chapel, walking trails, activity rooms and children's activities on the weekends. For weekend campers they also have washrooms in site. This is a great campground.

We had no idea what horrors awaited us…read more The roads being very narrow and huge trees on both sides of entrances to spots, the other campers were very close to the edge of their assigned area, so backing was a bit cumbersome. There were no pull through spots. Being seasoned campers, well, we figured we had surely seen worse. Setting up, we went to plug in our power cord, opened the electrical box, and noticed the panel was black! The previous campers must have had a rude awakening and unaware of the dangers of a malfunctioning system. No staff anywhere - nothing was open - anywhere on site. No phone service, so the neighbors next to us called the owners to report it. The response was that someone was on the way. We waited about 2 hours, beyond exhausted, and went to bed. No. One Ever Came. We had no power and in the dark. Thank goodness we had battery operated lanterns. We couldn't wait to leave this godforsaken place and departed before dawn the next morning. I absolutely planned to address this with the owners. Stupidly, I hoped the owners were going to be more understanding. Not even the slightest. Over nearly 3 weeks I sent many emails to the owners - the first one explaining in excruciating detail. I was ready to give up when I decided to call one more time. I reached the wife of the owner. When I started to explain the dilemma and before I could even finish, she said in a snotty tone, "I have the email open right here." Dang, she could have been nice, already knowing of the situation. Hoping to have a reasonable conversation, I waited for some sort of compassion to leak through the phone lines. Futile at best. She asked what I wanted in return. I responded, "Kindness to start with and the rest is negotiable, rather than the short and terse email from your husband." I asked, "Is he always so mean?" She paused. "Yeah, I get it.," she says. She offered a discount of $14 off about an $80 bill. For no power? Unsatisfactory at best. I imagined how miserable she must be, this kind of person for a husband, and taking phone calls like this. She said she'd discuss this with her husband and get back to me in a week or so. Wow, a week? No, they never called, nor did they respond to my emails pleading for a reply. Our camper worked flawlessly, we were not responsible for their damage, and still had no power. Many possibilities could have happened to the box - the least of which the previous renters were not truthful about their camper being plugged in, and maybe they caused the problem. There could have been other neighbors with mischievous children escaping inattentive parents. I could go on and on. The resolution came outside the owners' cooperation. Suffice it to say we got our money back. Thank goodness. RVers, beware. Don't stay here unless there's no other option.

There is no rec hall activities, except kids crafts, and from talking with the locals they charge for use of the rec hall and the pavilion. Adult pool time is not monitored. There really isn't much in the store and its not open all the time. The restaurant is soso and not air conditioned very well. The electricity is sketchy at best, we had constant brown outs while running our air. The people were great ( seasonal and permenants)and helpful. Its too bad they are treated so badly.

Because of the pandemic, camping has become very popular, and it's harder to get a campsite, and impossible over the weekend. Camping season is so short! We have a trailer and requested a site with electricity, water, and sewer so that we can plug into these features. They had a couple of spots available during the week, so we came. The smaller sites without the drive-throughs are small, and each one is on a hill. Our post for electricity was on the left of the site - at the top of our hill, but we had to park on the right side of the site to take advantage of the flat part of the site. Our electricity cord was too short to reach the plug! When we asked for guidance on this, they offered a longer cord. Phew! All week without electricity as not an inviting prospect!! There's a pool, and a games room, a mini putt on the front lawn, and the "dairy barn" which are all open during the day and locked up at night. There's a shop on site where you can get food items you forgot to pack, and ice and firewood. Lots of kids here! There are also a few cabins you could rent, and a few permanent trailers. Park is conveniently located on 59, and easy to find and access.

Additional charges at every turn and all weekends are variations of 'bear' themes. Lucky you if that is your thing. Not only will you fight off the Bears in the woods, but many also have had to peel off the ticks. Neither are particularly pleasant or healthy activities. The horror stories I have heard about this place (mostly about the owner/operators), makes you wonder how these guys are still in business. They certainly do not deserve to be. This place deserves competition.... Somebody please open a campground!!!!!!

This is very family and retired professionals type of campground. The waterfront is magnificent. Cycling trails (G2G - Goderich to Guelph) trail; hiking; an abundance of boutique stores, local breweries, gorgeous Bayfield, so much to explore. It's known as the "prettiest Town in Ontario" or was that Canada?,,,,
