When we told the others what we were looking for they each told us the cookie cutter assembly line way they did things. The owner of this firm, Matt Johnsrud, took the time to understand what we wanted and then bent over backwards to provide exactly that. My spouse described him as like an angel who swooped into a bad situation and handled it is a way that gave us great comfort. He was up front about his prices which were the lowest in town and applied no sales pressure whatsoever but we hired him because of his flexibility and sensitivity. He personally handled everything from pickup at the hospital to drop off at the crematorium. This is the best experience we have ever had with a funeral director. We recommend him unconditionally. They were beyond professional and helpful and they made themselves available day and night if we had questions or concerns. They made an unbearable process much easier. Logan (case worker), Riza (aide), Ian (music therapy) and alternates Amber, Lois are all wonderful--very caring, compassionate, and attentive, and they provide excellent care. I also greatly appreciate how supportive they are of the caregiver. They consistently ensure that supplies are provided and well stocked, which makes a meaningful difference during a very challenging time. My only concern is that services are not "open" or available on holidays and weekends. Illness and end-of-life needs don't take breaks, so it feels odd and somewhat disappointing that Ecumen's services are limited during these times, when support can be just as critical. Overall, the care team is exceptional, but expanded availability would greatly improve the experience.

I was really hoping that there would have been an APC machine here, but the clerk advised that they had to pull the machine out years ago. The package had tracking and the tracking indicated that first delivery was attempted and then when they realized the error, it was returned to the post office to be held. Both my husband and I talked with the supervisor at Mount Royal who was no help. He called the carrier who insisted that the package had been delivered, but our video camera indicates that the package was not among the items being delivered and it was not with that mail when I picked it up from my porch. The supervisor tried to convince me that the package couldn't be scanned because there were lines on the scanning area, though it obviously had been scanned when first received as the tracking was updated. They offered no recourse for tracking down the package, and told my husband to contact the police as it must have been stolen. I asked if it was possible that the package was still at the post office and the supervisor said "maybe" but didn't offer to instigate a search. Basically they took the word of the carrier over the evidence of my camera and my word. Very poor service. Unfortunately, as the only option at this time is the post office, I recommend going private so that there is some accountability.
