It's a beautiful course that nobody knows about. Practically had it to myself on a weekday morning. They have a nice little bar too 5$ local wines and beers on tap. The burger is good.

It was a religious experience. To be able to golf in such a humbling environment as towering redwoods, mirror ponds, grand views of the Calaveras foothills and snow-capped Sierras, took turns as being host from hole to hole. And there was hardly anybody there on a Sunday afternoon, which is unheard of for any city golfer like myself. It was like having your own personal course. It is a shorter executive 18 hole course with a lot of par 3's and only one par 5. A par 60 if you will, but that by no means translate into an easier round. Challenging elevation changes and narrow holes makes command of your game a premium. Outside of the sheer beauty of the terrain and architecture of the course, it could use better maintenance. Lot of the greens were scarred and the sand traps were closer to hard clay traps. Maybe it is just remnants of a wet and cold winter, it may well look a hell lot better in the height of summer. But for $26 to walk on this peaceful and breathtaking course, how can one lose. A recharge for the soul is what this place brings. Just in time to end a great weekend.

A great course with beautiful views. Affordable green fees with a fun and challenging course. Straight shots are rewarded more than long ones. Cheers.

I really enjoyed my time at the renovated Murphys 9 golf course. I was visiting relatives in Arnold and everyone decided to sleep in. As a result, I found myself wide awake with nothing to do. I had considered visiting many times in the past, but had just never made it out to the course. The gentleman in the pro shop as well as the gentleman in charge of the carts were both very friendly. I arrived just as they were opening and they told me I could get started and simply come in to pay after the 3rd hole (3 holes on one side of the pro shop, 6 on the other). I had never seen this course with 18 holes, so, unfortunately, I am unable to comment on the changes. The course is fairly narrow and favors accuracy over distance. The only really lengthy hole is the 1st (520ish yards). The rest of the course is made up of par 3's and 4's. My home course in Stockton (Swenson- which I highly recommend for a cheap muni), is very flat and relies on distance and tree-lined fairways to keep you honest. For me, the Murphys 9 course seemed short, but had some nice elevation changes and greens surrounded by heavy rough. If you miss long, you will likely lose your ball! I really enjoyed the drop shot from an elevated fairway onto the green at hole 9! There were a couple of cons, which is why I only rated this course a 4. Although there are very few bunkers in play, if you hit one, it was almost impossible to hit out of. One reason for this is that the bunkers seem to be made of clay mud and dirt, rather than sand. The second reason is also my 2nd con of the course for the time that I played. The sprinklers were going the whole time I was on the course. This made the bunkers very muddy and made the greens run very slow. I had to putt through puddles multiple times. I would definitely come back to this course, although I think I would come a little later in the day to allow some of the water to dry up off the course. I also recommend using a cart if you are not in decent physical shape. I'm not huge, but walking up and down elevated holes with my bag (and the humidity of all of the water) was probably not the best idea. All in all, I really enjoyed the serenity, beauty, and affordability of this course. I apologize for the long review, but I wanted to comment on the new layout since most of the reviews here on Yelp were pre-renovation. I hope to see you out there!! -Jerry

A best kept secret because this 9 hole course is not crowded and I was surprised at how nice this course is.

Recently played 3 rounds here this past weekend, and had an absolute blast. My parents have a house…read moreon the course, so it's been a course we've gotten to play a ton, and it's a good challenge for all skill levels. They are currently going through another ownership change, but from what the pro shop guys have said, it's all good things coming. The greens have some crabgrass issues, but other than that they are rolling pretty good. The greenside bunkers have gotten much better over the past few months, but the fairway ones still need some work. Since the new ownership change, the tee time pricing is now dynamic. We called to make a reservation instead of booking online, and that was a mistake. Definitely check online for the best price as most of the prices were cheaper than what we ended up paying. Twilight starts at 1pm, and honestly $75 with a cart is a solid deal. 2/3 rounds I played this past weekend were under 4 hours. 4th of July the course was empty and made for a very enjoyable round. The one area the course as a whole can improve on is the food at the clubhouse. Not sure if there's been change, but the food has been real bland the last few times. It's pricey as well, which makes us want to pack a lunch instead of buying it on the course. Lynette the bartender is the best though! Overall, excited to see how the new ownership improves the course over the next few months and beyond and can't wait to be back up to play again. This course is truly a hidden gem that's not too far from the Bay Area

I played there the last few days and I'm not sure when golf courses started letting people go out with their kids/toddlers like they couldn't find daycare! I watched them run amuck, scream, and one kid almost ran his little sister over with the club's cart. No the kids were not playing or being taught. Just parents ruining others experience by not leaving them elsewhere

We left at 630 for a 2 hour drive so we could have breakfast at Copper Valley restaurant. They don't serve breakfast on Thursdays. We will take the blame for that as we assumed a golf resort would serve breakfast. Then we played at 11 really hot and windy behind a group that took 5 hours but the worst part was on a hole that was a dog leg I had a blind shot to the green. We waited all day until the group was way off the green to hit. I pulled my 8 iron left of the green and landed about 10 yards from the group in their cart. The member got out of his cart picked my ball up and threw it in the weeds. Never seen that before. We finished and had a beer and went to out 2 bedroom condo. We had 2. Our friends condo had no air conditioning and were miserable all night and decided not to play the 2nd day. So our twosome went over to get a quick breakfast before our tee time at 8. No luck breakfast not served until 8. All in all we decided that $500 would be better spent elsewhere. By the way we had dinner and it was average but expensive. My recommendation is pass on Copper Valley and go somewhere else.
