Potential buyer for a horse called this vet since they couldn't find anyone else in their timeframe. 2 vets showed up, male vet looked like he just stepped out of a GQ magazine wearing sneakers to a barn. The female vet spotless as well. Spent an hour examining the horse, tells the buyer to not buy a perfectly sound horse then overhear the female vet telling our buyer she has a friend selling a horse. It has almost been a year since I brought my beloved first animal to his vet for the last time. I made an appointment for my 3 year old cat to be seen for an ear infection. That was it, and he ended up dead. The doctor gave my cat some sort of shot to help his ear infection (I couldn't tell you which shot; considering all records are handwritten and entirely illegible). My poor cat IMMEDIATELY had a reaction. Fell over, couldn't hold his own body up, foaming at the mouth excessively and had a bowel movement. I brought him back inside to Dr. Kurt and was told his reaction was "normal", and to just take him home and let him rest. On the car ride home, my cat yowled the whole time while foaming and shaking. When I returned home, I tried to let him out of his carrier. He was unable to move, and just plopped over on the floor. He wouldn't eat, drink, or go in the litter box. I called the vet immediately. They told me to give it some time. I gave it hours, and still no improvements. He remained in the same spot on the floor. I called back, and they then said I should bring him back in (I basically demanded it after they tried to brush it off as nothing). The doctor decided to give him a shot to "counteract" the reaction. The next day, I still hadn't seen improvements. Still not moving, eating, drinking, and by this point- still no urinating/bowel movements. I called the vet, yet again, and demanded my cat be seen. This time, the doctor finally decided to do some blood work. He told me he'd call me the next day, and never did. Unfortunately, it was too late. Another day goes by, and my cat was still rapidly declining. By the time I had brought him to an emergency vet- it was too late. He began seizing and had gone into kidney failure. I was left with no choice but to euthanize him. My 3 year old cat. Who only had an ear infection, and suffered his last days due to complete negligence on behalf of his vet. read more

If I could give a zero I would. Called for two quotes: fixing a female dog and getting X-rays for another dog. Was told she couldn't give me a quote until the animal was seen for a 52.00 visit. I have NEVER not been able to get a starting price. I understand it will vary because of animals size and age-but give me a break....every office I've called can tell me-fixing starts at 200.00 and varies based on age/weight.... sooooo----I'm taking my business to New Baltimore vet office read more

We have been taking our pets (dog, cats) to Maple Ridge since they opened in (I believe) 2007. Met Dr. Halstead (while he was working at Catskill Animal Hospital) when he took care of our cat with urinary crystals who needed to be catheterized. This wasn't our first go-round with a cat with crystals either, which is a horrible thing to watch your pet go through. We were seasonal at that time. Maple Ridge has always been very accommodating for appointments, always returns phone calls, and follows up with calls after appointments. Never have we been steered wrong; trust the office implicitly. More vets like him are needed in this world today. read more

A few years ago, my dog was exposed to parvo. I took him to this office (explaining his exposure), yet all that happened was he gave me antibiotics and sent us home saying he would call Monday. Mind you this was a Saturday so he was in a hurry to leave. Had I not brought my dog to the ER he would have died that night! read more

Amazing veterinarian! I am not from the area, and was here visiting a friend and unfortunately my dog was bitten by another dog. The vet saw me right away and treated him for a reasonable price (I'm from NYC and the cost was probably half of what I would have paid in the city). I was nervous to bring my dog because I have never been to this office before, but the veterinarian was knowledgable and the whole vibe of the office was friendly and relaxing. My dog came out looking and feeling amazing! The office even called to check in on him a few days later. If I lived in the area, this would be my permanent veterinarian's office. read more

It's been over a year since Dr. Halsted Has docked the tails of four pedigree Yorkshire puppies for me. They still have tails of about 1/2 " long. ( which should be about 4 inches long) So my advise to anyone is to take heed when letting this vet near your pet with a Knife. read more

On 2/14/2019, our beautiful Lab who was 6 months old was spayed by Dr. Halsted. On 2/19/2019, she was dead. When we picked her up on the 14th, she seemed okay and we were told that if there are any problems to "leave a message" and Dr. Halsted told my husband that he always checks his messages. It was the President's weekend, and he didn't check his messages. We were also never told that there was a 24 hour ER veterinary hospital up in Latham, NY. We are new to this area, and didn't know about it. Our baby girl slowly deteriorated over that weekend and when we finally got hold of Dr. Halsted on Tuesday 2/19, we were told to bring her in. He didn't look at her and told us, as he was walking up and down the hallway, that he was in the middle of surgery and couldn't talk to us now. Mind you, if he was doing surgery, why wasn't he in scrubs and why was the patient/animal alone? The vet tech gave our dog a shot of antibiotics and a shot of vitamin K to improve her appetite. We were sent home. After lunch, we noticed that she had gotten worse and we rushed her back to the vet's office where they took her temperature, hooked her up to an IV with antibiotics and give her a shot of Valium to calm her down. As it got closer to closing time, around 3 or 3:30, they started rushing around, cleaning the floors while my dog was still hooked up to the IV. Then they took her temperature again and told us it came down, unhooked the antibiotics and sent us home with antibiotics and pain pills. Our dog was in a stupor when we left there and never really opened her eyes again. We were so upset that we rushed down to the Kingston ER Vet which opens at 6 p.m., but she was dead on arrival. I asked for copies of the medical records. To be brief, there is no mention of any lab work being done before the surgery, and no mention of the surgery at all except to say she was "out of surgery". Also, in reviewing the records with the breeder, on 2/19, someone had written that her temperature was 107.1, and then someone else had written over it to make it 103.8. It's clearly visible. Something went horribly wrong and to make himself feel better, I guess, he paid for my dog's cremation. Also, I found out from the vet, that he was having a medical problem which could have led to him being less skillful with his surgery, thus resulting in some type of error. I want others to know what happened, and I would NEVER recommend that anyone go to Maple Ridge Veterinary. read more

Dr. Halstead saved our dog's life. Our dog had been healthy and happy, then developed a cough. It got worse. We went to two vets in NYC. One x-rayed her belly and told us her stomach was distended and full of water, then shrugged her shoulders. Now I realize that if you google that, you'll find out those are the two most basic symptoms for cardiomyopathy. In any case we got two bad diagnoses-- stomach virus and Kennel Cough. She was doing poorly (on all the wrong meds) when we finally brought her to Dr. Halstead. He took one look at her, knew what was wrong, did a chest x-ray to confirm it and understood she was having congestive heart failure! She would have died if not for Dr. Halstead. He's a very no-nonsense vet and his staff is very competent. read more
