I would keep using Nassau vet even if I moved an hour away and had another vet next door to me. (Well, maybe not for routine shots in that case!) When I moved to Troy, I switched to a nearby vet and learned the hard way that not all vets are equal. When my cat was dying and the other vet had given up, I came back to Nassau. They ran a broader set of tests, including referring out an expensive ultrasound they could have done in house and pocketed the cash for but which they thought a specialist could interpret better--and when it would have taken weeks for me to get in to see that specialist, they called and got me in. They also treated symptoms aggressively so that my cat started improving even before they had a diagnosis. Which they got. Now I see my cat eating voraciously again and see her weight going back up, when I was expecting her to die this month. Nassau vet anticipates likely problems (like which medicines taste the worst and give recommendations about how to make it better). The staff monitors texts and responds very quickly. I did have another cat have to be put to sleep here years ago, and the staff sent a very sweet card. Really, I cannot recommend Nassau vet highly enough. read more

The best vets I have ever brought my animals to. Respectful to my animals and myself. Explains everything to me that my animal may need in laymen's terms. Open to any questions I may have. All I wanted was an appointment to get my dog's teeth cleaned and an xray taken, but they wouldn't schedule an appointment with his dental records. My dog doesn't have any dental records because he's never had his teeth cleaned. The front desk kept putting me on hold because she didn't seem to know anything and had to ask about every question.. She said I'd have to make an appointment to have my dog evaluated before he could even have his teeth cleaned. If it's this hard to make an appointment with their passive-aggressive front desk person then it seems like the place is over bureaucratic and disorganized and wants to overcharge for their services by creating layers of redundant appointments. read more

Can I give 6 stars? :) My dog had surgery here last week. The surgeon called me immediately after the surgery to let me know how things went and about a small problem they encountered during the surgery that they were able to manage. All of my questions were answered thoroughly, and the aftercare materials they provided were very helpful. It even came in well under the estimate, despite the complication that required some extra procedures. My pooch is recovering well and I am very happy with their service. read more

We recently needed to establish a regular vet for our two cats close to our new house. Nassau Vet has been wonderful. Friendly staff, responsive to calls and questions, and they were able to quickly fit us in for an appointment. They have very convenient hours, including evening nights and weekends. Our one cat is a bit of a difficult patient, and they were very accommodating. During her exam they had a vet tech stay and feed her treats to distract her. It worked like a charm! Overall they were very gentle and compassionate to our pets, clearly explained things, and made us feel very comfortable with the level of service and care provided. Highly recommended. read more

I would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at the Nassau Vet Clinic. My cat (Tiger) received multiple fractures of his jaw and a puncture wound in his palate. Dr. Philips was reassuring that Tiger would have a complete recovery. His experience and compassionate demeanor was very comforting to me in this time of stress. Tiger was operated on and we kept him there for a few days. Post-op care has been exceptional and Tiger has been made more comfortable after his traumatic experience. I would recommend Dr. Philips and his dental skills to any pet owner. The front end staff are caring, compassionate, and were informative answering my questions. If getting nickel and dimed...I mean, if getting $20 and $50'd into poverty somehow makes you feel like you're 'doing night' by your animal, then this is the place for you. I have been using Nassau Vet Clinic for years, as vet services, training, never boarding though. Unfortunately a few months ago they gave both our cats a deadly dose of a medication. They did not know the medication from the manufacturer was bad and should not have been given. That being said, they have not assisted us to recover all of our medical costs while trying to save our two cats as well as the cost for cremation. Knowing with all documentation this was the reasoning. Very disappointed in how they handled this situation. I will never do business with them again! I have been going here for years. Dr Phillips saved my boxers life when he was a puppy. I remember my husband carrying him inside because he couldn't walk on his back legs extremely high fever. I really thought my dog was going to die and I remember Dr Phillips replying with.. not if I can help it and he was true to his word. He put him on IVs and he did a 360 and for that I will be forever grateful to Nassau vet. My dog absolutely loves Dr Dietrich and Alex. I have to say my boxer has a file full of health issues and Dr Deitrich has gone above and beyond as his vet. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my pets and that say a lot because my pets are my world. read more

I live in Rotterdam and willingly drive 45 mins to Nassau Vet so my pets will receive the absolute best care and attention in the tri-cities area. Contrary to what Floyd of Troy wrote, they are anything but a "vet factory." They have never tried to force me to do or buy anything. They give me all the information that's available, tell me my choices, and I make the decisions. When I had to euthanize my two very ill senior dogs within six months of each other in 2011, Dr. Rose and the technicians and the reception desk staff showed genuine compassion and love for my dogs as well as for me. I adopted another rescue dog and she loves going to Nassau Vet for grooming and is never stressed there. I wouldn't consider trusting any other vet clinic in this area with my dog's health care. read more

Taking your pet to the vet is rarely a pleasant experience. Between the worry that there might be something wrong with your little guy or gal to having to leave your pet behind for the day (or a couple of days) to have work done, it takes a special kind of place to alleviate the stress involved with this process. Nassau Veterinary Clinic is a professional operation on every level. It starts when you're greeted at the door by the clinic staff, all of which standing at the ready with smiles on their faces. The waiting area for patients is clean and organized. In each of my experiences here, I didn't wait more than a couple of minutes before being shown to a private room where you and your pet can both relax. The doctors at Nassau Veterinary Clinic are also fantastic. I worked with Dr. Phillips in identifying and correcting a handful of dental issues that had been affecting my cat. Before any procedures were scheduled, Dr. Phillips took the time to meet with me and thoroughly explain his plan, along with the reasons why he felt the procedure was necessary. He referred to contemporary research, presented pictures, and other information as he detailed these plans. This is something that I really appreciated and contrary to all other vet experiences I've had throughout my life. Then, when the day of the procedure arrived, the Clinic continued in providing the necessary support and resources to ensure that everything went smoothly. It was more than just dropping off and picking up my pet - there was a pre-surgery meeting when everything was detailed and specifics were confirmed, I received a call halfway through the procedure to report that everything was going fine, and there was also a post-surgery meeting to discuss aftercare. Even after returning home for a couple of hours, the Clinic staff called to make sure that everything was going okay. While this was a pricey endeavor, I would certainly rather pay a little extra to get the treatment that we received. The bedside manner, compassion, and professionalism of the Nassau Veterinary Clinic are truly unparalleled in my experience. When you are faced with the difficult decision of bringing your pet to a vet, you should absolutely make the drive to Nassau. You won't be sorry that you did. read more

I chose Nassau primarily because Dr. Phillips' dental expertise. I work with a rescue group that sends most of their dental cases to Nassau. When my cat needed extensive treatment and surgery I priced Just Cats and Shaker Veterinary Hospital as well as Nassau. Nassau cost ~10% more, but had the specific experience and accreditation I was looking for. I was so pleased by the thoroughness of the care they gave my cat I moved all my pets to Nassau. I'm surprised by the comments the previous reviewer left - I can only guess that they're not familiar with the current costs of veterinary care. I am, and I choose Nassau. read more

Nassau Veterinary Clinic is amazing, so much so that we are more than willing to drive from Clifton Park. Our vet is Dr. Sanford, who is very skilled as an animal behaviorist in addition to her skill as a vet. Even though she recognized our Martha as "the most reactive dog" she had met (she is not alone among vets in her analysis), she has not allowed that to diminish her care for Martha, and has been a partner with us in our constant work to help Martha be a more, um, acceptable member of society. Not only she, but the vet techs at the practice, have been willing to work with us, and any progress Martha makes is due, at least in part, to their concern and caring for this sweet, but admittedly EXTREMELY tightly wound little American Staffordshire Terrier. read more

We Wouldn't go anywhere else. We have been customers/patients here for 10 years. I had 4 furbabies (dogs). We just lost one of our boys and our vet made it as easy as possible to get through. No matter what loosing your best friend is heartbreaking. They did their best to ease his passing for him and for us. From personal notes of sympathy to flowers and phone calls. They truly knew the pain I felt. Through the years they have been the kindest most concerned vet. We have gone through routine visits to emergenty visits and surgeries, always recieved top notch care. They always call for follow ups and make sure you are well aware of everything going on. You always get a detailed estimate of what your treatment plan is. They always respect whatever route you choose to go with to help your pet. They know each of my pets personalitites and how best to help them to be as comfortable as they can be. Even through Covid restrictions they have been understanding and given excellent care. Having moved from Manhattan, NY a year ago, I was concerned I would not be able to find the same level of care for my 2 dogs when we moved permanently to the country. I could not have been more wrong!!! As a former pet health expert for shows like The Today Show, and World News Tonight, I'm both knowledgeable and critical of pet care. Nassau Vet has a great team of care providers who all have different perspectives on care - something I appreciate as an integrative medicine supporter. Whether I want to discuss homeopathic supplements, acupuncture, or more routine but expert level care needs - like bone grafts for my dog's tooth issues - I'm in good hands. ABSOLUTELY AS GOOD AS IT GETS! I'd give MORE THAN 5 stars too!!! In my opinion, the ONLY low review was perhaps someone at Nassau Vet having a "bad day" (we are all HUMAN). These folks are FABULOUS!!! We only drive 20+ minutes, but wouldn't go elsewhere. Our rescue needed LOTS of help and all 3 vets (we were changed around according to needed specialty). We started with doc Phillips- EXCELLENT for extraction of many teeth. They called right after surgery to update & let us know our boy was doing well. We needed Doc Dietrich for ultra sound etc (or boy had many medical problems) and she was also kind, thoughtful, patient.... We ended up with Dr. Sanford (and as I said...we have been delighted with ALL of the vets) who is FUNNY, COMPASSIONATE, GIVING, KIND, AND a perfect fit for us (she is a Doxie lover/ owner as well). WE ADORE HER and she is treats our "Ernie" like her is one of her kids- just delightful to be in the company of. She is our good fortune and blessing. As far as price gouging- I COULDN'T DISAGREE MORE. We have been financially tight a number of time (our boy hasn't been a cheap date) and I simply TOLD them and we worked together just doing what was necessary. I have a very nervous dog. She recently had to have two ultrasounds. Dr. Dietrich and her staff made this experience for my dog, Cricket, a calm one. Cricket let them lay her on her back, something she does not like, and shave her little belly, she laid there and let the doctor do it. Put jell on her little belly and use the wand to check her organs. Everyone at Nassau was professional and welcoming. If I didn't live an hour away, I would make Nassau Veterinary Clinic my dog's place to go. Thank you to everyone there for making a stressful experience for me a good one. read more

Liking animals does not a veternarian make. This facility lacked the professionalism I expect; I have had to take everything upon myself and push them for answers and to make moves; I have also received quotes from other vets for significantly lower pricing than what I received from Nassau. My dog had a lump aspirated and found to be cancerous. After waiting for someone to contact me with the results for 4 days, I called myself and got the bad news. After I got the results they tried to put me in an appointment for 2 days later because they said it should be removed asap; I requested an estimate be drawn up first which I waited to receive for 3 days before I stopped by and had to ask them to get me one right then (I waited there for 25 minutes for the estimate, another one of the issues here). It was another 4 days before a vet actually called me (shock) to see when they could schedule my appointment. I received cheaper quotes from other vets in the meantime. I will not be returning to this facility. read more
