This review is of the aesthetician Maria at Forest Spa Boutique. I've been regularly going to Maria since 2019 for Brazilian waxing. So it's high time I leave her a review. She is meticulous in her attention to detail, she will find and remove that last stray hair for results that you want to show off in bikini bottoms. And if you are prone to ingrown hairs, Maria has got a treatment regimen that will clear things up quickly. Oh, and I would be doing readers a disservice if I did not mention that Maria has a lovely beside-manner. Which is really appreciated when getting services that have the potential to be slightly awkward, like Brazilian waxing, at least at first :). I've also had the privilege of her doing my facials, brow waxing and lash lifting. Her knowledge of skin care and cosmetic treatments impresses me, so she is one of the few people besides my dermatologist that I trust to work on my skin. Her steady and gentle hands make things like her facial massages absolute bliss. Her talent for lash lifting gets me a gorgeous curl that flatters my face and lasts for many weeks. Yeah.... I'm never coming back here. I've been waxing my brows for years and this is the first time my face has actually been burned by the wax and the technique. Sigh. She must have broken the stick in half cause I felt something scraping my face as she waxed. She also used the same stick and the same strip to apply and remove wax repeatedly... So double dipping, yes. I told her the wax was painful and she insisted that I'd be fine. For the last 18 hours my face has been burning badly and has burn marks. Not just small areas, but the entire length of both eyebrows! Ignore my awful skin (and eyebrows), but you can clearly see the burns. I'm never subjecting my face to their work again. FML my skin is bad enough. I don't need this kind of damage! read more

I am pleased to say that 5 years later, this rating holds up entirely! I've seen Bianca for facials for years now. She's incredible! Each time I go, I feel completely recharged and my skin looks beautiful. She does an excellent job of tailoring treatments to skin type, and even her extractions are totally bearable. I also, as always, really dig the extra massage, it's so nice to feel pampered in these crazy times. I'm sad to say that our family is moving out of the Bay Area, and I will definitely miss my appointments with Bianca, but I'll be sure to make seeing her a priority when I'm back in town. I booked an appointment on a friday evening because I had to attend an event the next day. Perhaps it was a bad idea to take the last slot on a Friday but in all the facials I've had in the bay area this has not proven to be the problem before. The person who did my facial started off in a 'let's get this done and go home' fashion - never a good sign to begin with. Sure enough the rest of the facial was very haphazard and very rushed. She didn't bother to ask what my concerns were - I had to tell them just to remind her to not use a very aggressive approach. She also kept missing portions of my face with all the lotions she was applying and I pointed them out to her (like don't skip over the temples or the jawline) and she'd comply for a few seconds and then soon after revert to skipping these. And by skipping these I mean, the rest of your face has cleanser on it but your temples and jaw line have not been cleansed - isn't that such a pleasant feeling?! x-( As for the facial itself, it was nothing to speak of - just your regular facial and yet it costed 50-60 $ more than what it would have at some other places where I've had awesome facials (they didn't have a slot open which is why I booked an appt at this place)! Infact, this didn't even include some elements of those facials. Severely overpriced for pathetic methodology and service! Oh and did I mention that you don't get any spa attire (that thing that looks like a towel dress that you usually wear to avoid products transferring on to your bra or top) to wear - so you basically have to get under the covers and pray the blanket doesn't slip! There we go, corner cutting - really what I was looking for while paying $140 Overall, given the absolute lack of concern that the esthetician displayed, her rushed and haphazard execution and the fact that this facial could've been had for 80-90 $ at various other places, and their abysmal service I will not be returning. As I walked out and paid, the receptionist asked me if I'd like to book another appointment. I told her that this appointment was awful enough and everything was rushed. Her response? Love that you can book an appointment through Yelp, online! I desperately needed a last minute underarm wax, and went online to book an appointment - it was nice to see when they had open slots. I booked a 4:30pm appointment at 2pm (on the same day)! When I arrived, I was welcomed by a staff member at the front desk and was immediately offered a refreshment (tea or water). The waiting room is relaxing and I only had to wait a couple of minutes for them to prepare my room (I had come around 10 min early for my appointment). The wax itself was swift and comfortable. The waxer gave me some excellent aftercare advice and great general conversation! I will definitely come back for all my waxing needs!!! read more

She told me that she was going to perform an enzyme peel in the middle of the session, but neglected to mention that it was not part of the facial I had booked and would cost an additional $39. Yesterday, I had the most efficient and pain-free yoni wax of my life. Today, I went back for the best facial of my life. And let me tell you, I've had plenty of both. Amanda was my esthetician both times. She is über knowledgeable and she will put you to sleep on the facial table. She suggested the blueberry peel facial. My skin looks GREAT. The facial felt great, too. It included an arm/ hand massage. Heavenly. I'm also really keen on the reception area at Forest Spa. Comfy chairs, a variety of product, jewelry, and tea! A warm environment in which to further relax. I sat and drank a cup of tea after my facial today. It was the perfect touch to end my experience and to prepare me to go back out in the real world. 5-stars for COVID compliance and safety! I have been a client of Forest Spa for many, many years and was thrilled to see them re-open after shelter-in-place eased up. I went in for a wax and the spa was spotless, appointments were staggered so I was the only client in the waiting area, they had a sink to wash my hands or sanitizer out for ease, contactless payment, and it felt SO safe. I am "COVID concerned" given I care for my elderly mom and work in healthcare, so no eating in tight spaces, no retail shopping, no inside anything really, and this felt safe. Safe in a way that I would go back. I first met Bianca years ago when she was working at another spa and followed her when she opened her own place. I see her monthly for waxing, occasionally for facials and massages and all three of my teenagers have had adolescent facials with her. She's amazing: knowledgable, has incredibly high standards and she's always friendly & cheerful. She was the first person who told me I have rosacea. The spa uses Prevonia products, which I love and have had great success using them at home. I've on occasion (because of scheduling) used other estheticians in the spa and all have been first rate. You know how after some facials you need to bust out your makeup kit to hide all the redness, or tissues to mop off the excessive rejuvenating oils, or, god forbid, cancel that dinner date two days away because a mini volcano is erupting post facial? Not so with Bianca! Bianca's facials and brow work are fantastic. I've had two facials with her and both times left glowing, no need for any post-facial makeovers, and best of all, no crazy eruptions afterwards. She's very good and experienced at what she does, and listens well to your skin concerns and needs. Bianca does not pressure you to buy the products she uses, so there's no uncomfortable hard-sell post treatment that you normally get at places like La Belle. Michele did my Brazilian and waxed my underarms. She was professional, kind and did an amazing job. It was painless; a lttle uncomfortable in the more tender areas but not painful. She was quick and had a way of making me feel comfortable while in a few uncompromising positions. The results were great; smooth, hairless and no ingrowns and did I mention painless? :-) The salon is beautiful and calming. The receptionist was friendly, professional and accomodating. I saw Bianca, the owner, for a leg wax and bikini wax today. She is awesome! It was my first time getting my legs waxed and I was feeling nervous. Moreover, it was my first time at Forest Spa and since my wedding is only a week away, I really wanted things to go perfectly! Bianca was great - very kind, professional, and (most importantly!) a great waxer. The pain was as minimal as it could be and she used cool towels to help soothe my skin afterwards. She even explained to me that contrary to a lot of the advice on the internet, it's not a good idea to take an Advil before a wax since it can make the skin more likely to bruise. Good to know! She also remembered that I was coming in for a pre-wedding wax based on an email I sent her months ago, and she congratulated me on my upcoming nuptials, which was sweet. The spa itself is in a great location, just off University in downtown Palo Alto. The inside is cute and nicely decorated, and the staff were so friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this spot! Just be sure to book in advance - Bianca told me she books up very quickly (and I can see why!). read more

I brought my mom here for a facial before we wedding back in November of 2018. We both were able to be seen at the same time as they had two estheticians working then and multiple facial rooms. My esthetician created a very relaxing environment, I probably could have fallen asleep. I told her my problem areas, my skin care routine, and what I wanted to get out of this facial. She listened to my concerns and needs and created a custom facial to suit me. I appreciated how she talked me through each step so I knew exactly what she was putting on my face. She made sure to check in with me to make sure nothing was burning or feeling uncomfortable as she applied each new product. When my mom and I left with visibly more glowing, radiant, and hydrated skin. We were both impressed with our estheticians and what a great job they both did. Wonderful spa in Palo Alto! The Forest Spa is the friendliest spa I've ever been to. Bianca, the owner, and Farzeena at the reception are so welcoming that each appointment feels like you are visiting good friends highly skilled at spa treatments. Bianca is amazing and the treatments I've tried over the years have all been wonderful, I highly recommend them. The facials and massages are so relaxing that you won't want to leave. The Pevonia products she uses are very pleasant too, I've even switched from my favorite Yon-Ka to Pevonia at home. The spa just moved to a new location right next to Coupa Cafe on Ramona (old location was on Forest, hence the name). The new space is beautiful and relaxing. read more

First the positives: 1. Nice ambiance 2. Very professional front desk staff. She honored the price the aesthetician quoted without making a big fuss. The price didn't match their catalog price but she still honored it. 3. Clean and quiet The not so good part: 1.The aesthetician quoted the wrong price. 2.$37 (I was quoted $30 by mistake) for an enzyme treatment is very expensive. She oversold it saying my skin would glow and it will be very noticeable but on the contrary despite using moisturizer and sunscreen my skin cracked and near my eyes it almost left a scar. No one noticed the glow. Overall a very pricey facial. Don't fall for the enzyme treatment. 3. The aesthetician comes across knowledgeable but once again don't fall for the enzyme treatment. 4. Also I felt my aesthetician was dressed a little unprofessional. read more

Everything in this spa puts you at ease. The people - lovely. The mood - chic but not overdone. And the services - top notch. It is on the pricey side, but so worth it. I'm not your average spa goer, but nevertheless I never felt uncomfortable during my visit at Forest. I recently had facial at forest spa boutique and it was hands down the best facial I have ever had! What made it so great was Tyler who gave me the treatment. She was very gentle and soothing, my skin felt and looked better than it ever has for weeks to follow.
