Normally, I'd go and get a massage at my health club's spa down the road but they were booked for a couple of weeks. This was my 3rd visit to NMD Spa. My first 2 visits were with Maddy who is exceptional! My review is based off of my most recent visit with a DIFFERENT esthetician who I believe is brand new. I had an express facial treatment scheduled and in my email confirmation the day before I noticed they had switched who my treatment was with and did not notify me in advance. Because it was the day before, I was not able to cancel without penalty. Going into the appointment I was a bit nervous since I do have sensitive skin and this person knows nothing about me, but decided to give her the benefit of the doubt. Big mistake. I got there early and she took me right away introducing herself and allowing me to get settled into the room while leaving the door wide open. She did not ask me any questions about my skin and the only thing she told me was she was going to cleanse my face first. After cleansing she started putting on more topical products still not saying a word. After that the treatment started and I asked her to do a 2nd pass through after feeling like she barely did anything on my face. During majority of the treatment the door remained open until we heard someone come in whereupon she got up to close the door. I laid on top of the bed the whole time cold. When the treatment was done I asked her about getting a night cream and she barely knew what to recommend. I assume if you are an esthetician working in a spa you should be familiar with the products being sold. I ended up just buying a replacement for what I already had since she had no clue what to recommend. When I went to the front to checkout she said "see you next time" and never scheduled me another appointment. I was pretty much relieved any way that she did not try to schedule me. I am very bummed to pay for this treatment from someone who is clearly very new and has no idea what they are doing. I am so happy to have found this boutique style private practice conveniently located on South California Ave. in Palo Alto, where parking is easy and there are lots of other shops, restaurants and businesses to utilize (I was also able to get coffee, drop off dry cleaning & get my nails done!) Booking my appointment was super easy, they have an online booking system that you can use 24 hours a day seven days a week...I was able to do my booking online at 11:30 PM on a Sunday! They have evening and Saturday appointments available! There is a lovely courtyard that you enter, the office is in a professional building where there are other personal services; psychologists, doctors, chiropractors etc. The office itself is tucked away and private. The lobby is beautifully appointed, modern and clean. I was offered organic tea or lemon, mint infused water. Artisan candies were also on display and available for the guests. The treatment rooms are spacious, private and also beautifully appointed, modern and clean. I had a full set of lash extensions. I am a veteran when it comes to receiving eyelash extensions. My therapist listened to me and provided me with a full consultation in order to make sure that she was able to achieve exactly what I wanted. Not only did she achieve the exact look that I wanted, my eyelashes turned out perfect! They are long and dramatic but not too thick. They are gradient and give me a "starry eyed look" which is exactly what I wanted. My therapist was so professional and so skilled I could tell she would be able to achieve any look that I desired. Her expertise really put me at ease. I was so comfortable the entire time. The table was ergonomic and I was covered in a blanket. Since this is a high end practice, all of the products used are top-of-the-line. They used collagen eyepatches under my eyes instead of tape. They use Minkys lashes and glue which are among the best in the industry. My lashes are so comfortable, I can't even tell I have them on! They feel like my natural lashes! I walked away feeling like a million bucks and I was treated like a vip. Everyone was so warm and inviting. I am so so thrilled with Nmdspa I am excited to go back for my fill and try some other services... they do clinical facials, waxing and massage therapy also ... my new one stop shop for all my beauty needs. It has been quite a while since I have written a review on NMD Spa. In the interim Nina the owner has added new staff, most particularly her newest and current esthetician Maya. I have been going to Maya since she arrived and have I both facials and micro-penning. She is absolutely wonderful at both. She technically excellent in both areas (and I am sure others that i have not done with her yet). I always fall asleep during my facials; she explains what products she is using, is very thorough and gentle with extractions and facial cleansing; gives fabulous face, head and shoulder massages. She is a consummate professional and follows the mood of the client, aka, quiet if that is what is wanted, or, friendly and engaging if the client was to be chatty. I set up an appointment with Nina for a Brazilian Wax. I really appreciated how easy it was to schedule the appointment online! The facility was very clean, and very calming. Nina offered me water or tea to get started. At almost 9 months pregnant, I know I'm challenging to wax. However, Nina went out of her way to make sure I was comfortable. The actual wax was one of the best that I've ever had. Probably the least pain I've ever experienced (and being pregnant I'm pretty sensitive). For aftercare, Nina gave me some lavender oil to gently remove any excess wax. She also provided a cool towellete. I also appreciated that Nina didn't try to upsell me on aftercare products. I first met Maddy at a different salon and both my mom and I followed her to NMD Spa because she is the BEST! Maddy will instantly make you feel like a you're a friend she's known for years. Skincare can be a very personal experience and Maddy just makes you feel so comfortable opening up to her! I've been to Maddy for both eyelash extensions and for skincare. I've had lash extensions done at several different places through the years and no one has ever done them as flawlessly (and quickly!) as Maddy. She really knows how to compliment the shape of your eyes with the lashes, and is careful to take care of your natural lashes in between fills. As far as skincare, Maddy is so so knowledgeable about all things skin! I was so impressed with her at my initial facial consult...and the facial was the best I've ever had. I recently had the pleasure of receiving a few treatments by Nina at her new spa location. The space is modern and sleek, with lovely decoration touches. My treatments for the day included a custom facial and a full body massage. We started with the massage and Nina asked me about my preferred pressure (dig deep into my tissue!) before going to town on my stress knots in my back and neck. I generally do not view back massages as a pleasurable thing given that working out knots and kinks is not painless, but Nina managed to interweave gentle motions that felt purely relaxing. The rest of the body was attended with soothing yet firm massage strokes and I dozed off a few times. Feeling relaxed and light, Nina then moved on to the facial. She inspected my skin and without any of my input needed she picked a series of products that calm down and treat skin prone to rosacea. She worked gently on my face and neck, massaging and polishing away all those lovely dead cells. The steamer she used felt warm but not too hot, again she tuned it perfectly from the get go to not agitate my cheek redness further. While the steamer was doing its work on my pores, Nina provided a treatment for my hands and feet, which were then placed into warm booties and gloves - not sure exactly what they were since my eyes were closed, but they nicely warmed my extremities and caused a cocoon like feeling. Throughout the facial, Nina informed me of what products she was using and why she chose that specific one for me. She came across extremely knowledgable and the entire treatment process was enjoyable. After I got dressed and left the treatment room, Nina greeted me with fruit infused water. I really enjoyed the small extra touches that are present in her spa. Most products (if not all) that she uses are available for sale in her spa and they're apparently very much in demand as she was running low on a few of the favorites. Needless to say, I am a huge fan after a lovely time at NMD Spa and will definitely be back soon for some more pampering! read more

I've been to NMD twice now. The first time for a Brazilian wax, unfortunately I forgot the person who helped me... But she was incredible, nearly painless and very thorough; not to forget, she was so absolutely friendly, professional and kind. The second visit was just today for a full body massage by Nina. Honestly, Nina is the BEST massage therapist I've ever had, hands down (no pun intended) and I get 1-2 massages a month with different therapist (haven't found the best until today). I went in with discomfort in my left scapula and lower back which has lasted for a little more than a week. I've tried everything from stretching to sauna to yoga and nothing helped. 10 minutes into my massage and I already felt relief. Nina begins gentle but goes harder, something I appreciate. Other therapist go hard from the beginning and your muscles aren't ready for noise like that! Nina was definitely very conscious of the locations that were bothering me and now I feel like I never even had discomfort. Before I forget to mention, Nina too is incredible sweet and friendly. I feel that the entire staff is full of wonderfully amazing people who care about their clients. I'll definitely be saving up to buy a few packages from them. Absolutely worth it. Whew, I have had a few lower back issues that Sylvia has managed to get me through without heading to the surgeon to get my spine removed. It is Osteo Arthritis and a small disc is being affected but the pain radiates and it can be debilitating. I am not in a position to fix it and there are no miracle drugs. Just continue with exercise and supporting the core. Anyhow, I actually feel a bit guilty about going to NMD Spa but it is the only thing that gives me a sense of flexibility. I first found Nina when she was at another salon in Menlo Park. When she moved to set up in Palo Alto I was one of the first people through the door and I wouldn't think of going to anyone else. She's outstanding. I have had a facial, massage and other treatments but I've been going to her for waxing for the past 6-7 years and she is fantastic. Quick, as pain free as waxing can be, and thorough. She puts you completely at ease and seems to know when you're good to chat and when you want to have a bit of quiet. Booking on the schedulicity website is so easy and I can always find a slot when I need one. The spa is incredibly clean and tidy and it's so easy to find parking even on a Saturday with a large lot close by and on street parking too. I came in today for a Brazilian wax and Melina is amazing!! I found out she's a former esthetician from the high-end and well known, Four Seasons Hotel, but now has her own clients at NMD spa. Melina was very professional, knowledge, and makes you feel very comfortable(thus my appointment was so much better). She did an incredible job waxing and it is definitely the best waxing experience I've had. In addition the spa is clean, fruit-Infused water, tea, and fruit are offered in the reception area. Nina is amazing!! I went to NMD for a brow wax first and had a woman who's name I don't remember. I am not too picky and the job was just average. I didn't get the fresh clean feeling after like i normally do, but I am also not one to say much, because I would rather leave them a little thicker than have them go too thin. I returned for a second appointment and this time with Nina. She shaped my eyebrows so beautifully, made me feel great and I have had countless compliments even after 3 weeks!
