I had a very disappointing experience with Gulf Coast Humane Society during my cat's neuter…read more I was already extremely nervous due to the surgery. During check-in, the veterinary technician was very kind and explained that he has a brachycephalic airway due to his facial structure. I asked if someone could call me once he was awake and doing well after surgery. She told me it would be better if I called around noon since that's when the cats are usually finished. When I called around noon, I was told his surgery hadn't even started because an emergency surgery came in and the dogs were being done before the cats. I completely understand that emergencies happen and should take priority. However, when I called again around 1:30 PM, his surgery still had not been performed. At that point, the staff member I spoke with was dismissive and rude. I was essentially told they have a high volume of spays and neuters and couldn't check on every cat. As a worried pet owner whose cat was under anesthesia for a scheduled procedure, I wasn't asking for constant updates--I simply wanted to know how he was doing. The most upsetting part happened after I picked him up. When I got him home, I discovered his entire backside was covered in blood. I immediately called the clinic and, after waiting on hold for about 10 minutes, was instructed to bring him back. Once we returned, I was told that the incision had not been fully closed. This should have been identified before he was discharged. A proper post-operative assessment should have caught this issue before sending him home. Seeing my cat covered in blood after surgery was incredibly distressing and completely avoidable. Unfortunately, this wasn't my first concerning experience at this facility. During a previous neuter visit with my other male cat, he could barely walk when he got home. While I appreciate that they now reverse the anesthesia, the overall experience still left me feeling that quality control and discharge assessments are lacking. I understand that shelters and high-volume clinics are busy, and I appreciate the veterinary technician who was compassionate during check-in. However, being busy should never come at the expense of patient safety or thorough post-operative care. I hope this review encourages the clinic to improve communication with pet owners and strengthen its discharge procedures so that no one else has to experience bringing their pet home in this condition.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience purchasing a French Bulldog from Petland Fort Myers…read more When I bought my puppy, I trusted that a store selling such expensive dogs would stand behind the health guarantees they advertise. At around one year old, my dog developed a serious eye condition and was diagnosed by a veterinary ophthalmologist with a cataract caused by a genetic issue and associated inflammation. This is not a minor problem -- it is a painful condition that can lead to permanent blindness and requires specialized treatment and potentially surgery costing thousands of dollars. I contacted Petland expecting them to honor their health guarantee for congenital or hereditary conditions. Instead, they dismissed the diagnosis and refused to provide meaningful assistance. Despite documentation from a specialist, the store would not take responsibility and repeatedly avoided helping resolve the situation. Buying a puppy should not turn into a financial and emotional burden due to genetic disease, especially when the business promotes screened and healthy animals. I feel completely misled and unsupported after the sale. If you are considering purchasing a dog here, be aware that once you leave the store, you may be on your own if a hereditary medical problem appears. I would strongly encourage potential buyers to carefully review the guarantees and understand that they may not be honored when it matters most.

I am glad I got to give these poor little babies some love but I would never step foot in here…read moreagain. Today we arrived to play with the puppies an hour after the business was said to open. The closed sign on the door said sorry we are closed with the clock pointing to 12 being the time the store would open, we arrived at 1pm with no one to be found. Puppies all unattended with the ones I could see through the window sitting in their own urine and eating their own poop off the ground. We came to gulf coast specifically to spend some time with the puppies so we walked around a while longer than came back around 2pm. Still closed. We the. Walk around yet again and come back at 3:30ish and finally the store is open. We go in and there is only one staff member who did not converse at all other than the initial hello. We start looking at the puppies and immediately notice they are all absolutely covered in urine and poop. None of them had any bed, there was not water in any of the bowls when we initially walked in, the staff member was using a dirty old mop to mop up the urine from all the stalls without any soap and dripping water all over the floors while doing so. Never once did I see her go into any of the stalls to properly clean the messes. Also they had ZERO POTTY PADS, they are simply left to use the bathroom on the floor and then live in the half cleaned up filth. The stench hits you as soon as you walk in and these poor babies all have crunchy and wet fur from living in their own filth. Truly a terrible establishment, I will never be back and shame on the owners for letting these babies live in these conditions. No toys, no bed and no cleanliness. Just heartbreaking.
