When we moved in 8 years…read moreago there was some brickery that contoured along the front yard, and that brickery was installed, I assume, when the house was built in '94. It was tired and the adhesive wasn't, so the upper layer of brickery liked to fall or break because delivery people don't care and they walk wherever they want to. Once I decided I wanted to do something I called Luv-It Landscaping to come out and take a look at what they could do. My first thought was to replace the brickery with landscaping timbers, probably 2 layers. When James arrived to size it up, he said railroad ties would actually look better and cost significantly less. I'm on board with "look better and cost less". If we were to remove the existing bricks it'd cost less as well. Consider it done A few days later I got my very reasonable quote in the mail and told them we were good to move forward. Fast forward a couple weeks. I got a call from Kim that they'd be out next next morning to do the work. I said no one would be home, but she said that's Otay because there was no need to go inside for anything. Sure enough, the next morning at 8:30 my front door camera told me someone was there. They got right to work unloading the railroad ties and commenced placing and cutting them. I don't think it took much over an hour from the time they started until the time they left. They did a great job of not only placing and securing the ties, but also cleaning up before they they left. I hired Raatz Fencing Company at my builder's recommendation because they were familiar with our…read moreneighborhood HOA requirements and had a good reputation locally. At their request, I provided a plat plan and was given an estimate that included specific measurements which would have kept the fence fully within my property boundary. The initial installation looked well done from a workmanship standpoint and based on that I recommended Raatz to three neighbors, all of whom ended up using them for their fences. A few months later, once construction began on the neighboring property, it became clear that the fence had been installed over the property line. Upon further review, the issue appears to be that the installation crew did not follow the measurements listed on the original estimate. Instead, they extended the fence by approximately 7 to 8 feet on one side for reasons that were never explained. Had the crew followed the documented measurements, the fence would not have crossed the property boundary. When I contacted the company to correct what was clearly an installation error, I was told that their crews are instructed not to follow the estimate's measurements and that it was my responsibility to verify the work during installation. This response makes no sense. As a homeowner, I relied on the estimate, the provided plat plan, and the company's stated expertise to ensure the fence was installed correctly. I should not be expected to oversee measurements or catch deviations from the company's own documentation. To make matters worse, I am now being charged to correct a mistake that was the direct result of their installation decisions. The stress and additional cost of fixing this has completely overshadowed what initially appeared to be quality work. While the fence materials and appearance may be good, correct placement is fundamental. Based on how this situation was handled and the refusal to take responsibility, I cannot recommend Raatz Fencing Company.

They were prompt, courteous, and most importantly to us; promising that we'd have a stellar yard when they were done with it. That was in Sept of 2013. As of mid-April, they have delivered on their word. From killing all vegetation in September to now, the change is dramatic, the grass came in like they said it would, and they've been out twice this spring to reseed small patches and fill in where seed was either washed away by fall rain, or maybe eaten by birds. It's not even finished filling in, and we already have the best yard in the neighborhood. I can't say enough good things about them. They told us they were by no means the cheapest guys in town, but pride themselves on being the best. We only bid the job to 2 other companies recommended by the BBB, but neither was as prompt or detailed regarding the quote we asked to have prepared.
