A little dry in the interior. No longer on the menu as of last week. -- Grilled Shrimp: Plump shrimp whose paprika-heavy rub and grill flavor balanced the butteriness, with a pepper aioli joining as well. On top, pickled fennel. Underneath, grilled sourdough that soaked in the grill, butter, and seafood flavors. Fantastic but no longer on the menu as of last week. -- Forge & Vine Cheeseburger: All the same ingredients as on a Big Mac, only of much higher quality, on a thick burger of high quality. I've been hoping to relive the glory of my first burger here (see previous review), but it's been rocky. Good grill flavor and outer crusting, but medium to medium well when I ordered medium rare. (Yes, I mentioned it to the server and manager.) Still a pretty good burger, and the bacon I added this time was thick and walking the tightrope between crispy and bendy. But a big miss on hitting greatness again. So I gave it another chance the next visit, and it was again overdone. But this time I sent it back, and the one they sent out was very good. The most recent visit only required one try: excellent, with the right crust outside and proper pink and juicy inside, along with a solid assortment of vegetables and condiments. An exemplary burger-- when they cook it right. -- Calamari: An eye-catching appetizer with the mostly thin rings pretty much treated like chicken wings, with a spicy tangy glaze, an aïoli underneath, and some kimchi on top for presentation. Very good crunch and flavor, but thicker pieces would have allowed a better tasting of the seafood itself. Still very enjoyable and I'd get it again. -- Shrimp Cocktail: Solid job, good size, presented in ice with lemon wedges and a cocktail sauce a little light on the horseradish. -- Grilled Swordfish Meunière: A thick slab, lightly grilled, fairly. A thin brown butter sauce, capers, and sautéed mustard greens added some much needed moisture and oomph. No longer on the menu as of last week. -- Jimmy Nardello Peppers: Long, bright red, no heat, slightly sour, and somewhat fruity like peppadew, dressed up with garlic aioli, chimichurri, and coriander seed. Outstanding. Great beer pairing. Beautiful space. Good to outstanding service. Cody pours his heart and soul into the experience, exuding enthusiasm from the greeting through the check. Some might find it a little overdramatic, but after enduring too many AWOL and near-comatose servers elsewhere, I can't get enough of it. I like this place, and consider it good to very good, but it seems like the proteins (especially the grilled items) turn up a little too dry a little too often to consider them great. Their pricing is high but well worth it when the execution is there. When it's not, it's a too-expensive just-okay. Despite the inconsistency, going with a 4 based on the most recent visit being problem-free. read more

Had our 3rd dining experience at this restaurant tonight. Was interesting that we walked right in with no wait. Not as busy as it used to be to be. Still a beautiful place with lovely atmosphere. The food is still disappointing. I had a scallop starter. It looked like 2 scollops that was cut in half. Smaller than a quarter, served on a shell on a bed of very Fishy smelling seaweed for $24. Drinks were good and service was great. If you are going to sell your protein based on size, like you do with your steaks, then maybe start doing the same with weight size for seafood products. This place has a great view! But who ever is doing the menu should be fired! Bad enough its very expensive, but they only give you a bit for the money. Drinks are okay, but also too expensive. They keep changing the menu every few months, but it never improves! They should really get someone who knows the restaurant business to take care of the food!!! read more

Forge & Vine is a solid spot with a great vibe, but it's a little hit-or-miss for me. The space is beautiful, though I'm not a huge fan of how close the tables are to each other--even if I understand why they do it to maximize seating. My biggest wish is that the menu changed up a bit more. Every time I go, it feels very similar, and I often find myself struggling to find something that truly stands out or excites me. The food is good, just not particularly memorable. That said, the service is consistently good and it's still a nice place to meet up or go for a casual night out. I'd love to see some fresher or more creative menu rotations in the future because the setting definitely deserves it. read more

We came to Forge & Vine for my husband's birthday. Our time here was such a wonderful experience. Visiting this restaurant t had been on our bucket list. The venue itself is quite large and open. The style inside is almost like sitting inside a giant barn that is furnished. The kitchen is open concept, so you can see the chef and cooks prepping food and planning. When we visited there was a local singer playing guitar and popular songs. Our waitress was friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu on hand. This was helpful when I wanted a cocktail with no sugar and to order a lighter entree. The Fire & Spice drink on the other hand wasn't my favorite. There was a lot going on with the drink and I just wanted a simple fresh margarita. I ordered: 1.) Judith Calamari - 5 stars and the quantity was plentiful 2.) French onion soup - 5 stars, I'm amazed at just how good this was! It was rich and packed with an onion punch. The presentation was gorgeous. 3.) Thumbelina carrots - 5 stars, sumac seasoning is one of my favorites and the carrots were not over cooked. Very delightful to feast on 4.) Banana Foster Pie - 3.5 stars, the crust was too hard to cut into with a fork. We ended up using our hands and even the taste was too dry. But the banana fosters filling was yummy so that was appreciated We plan to come back! Maybe in the summer or fall when there is a menu change. The produce here is unbeatable and local. After many first rate dinners here, I was very disappointed with tonight's anniversary dinner. My wife's scallops were excellent and she was very happy with everything , but my tuna entree, while beautifully presented, was served lukewarm. Now I don't expect rare tuna to be served warm, but the accompanying vegetables, although thoroughly cooked, were also barely warm and I hate a cold plate of food. While I'm someone who rarely (I.e., never) complains at any restaurant, I felt compelled to do so tonight, given the price of the entree. The waitress very gracefully took the plate back to the kitchen offering a redo, but came back with the preposterous explanation from the chef that if the vegetables had been served at more than lukewarm, it would have caused the tuna to be overdone. Really? Please don't insult my intelligence! Not wanting to upset my wife with a scene on our anniversary, I accepted the food without further argument. The wine was nice, but with a $250 tab for two for the evening, I certainly didn't come away happy with the experience (p.s. I don't write a lot of reviews either). Too bad, since this restaurant has been a real favorite of ours until tonight. I will really think twice about where to go for the next special occasion. read more

Monday night late dinner. Beautiful restaurant! Hungry after a day of travel. Started out with a nice glass of wine. Wanted something light & chose cocktail shrimp & Pear salad. I like you can order shrimp by the piece. The shrimp were large & tasted great. The pear salad was different with arugula & a maple labneh side . I would have liked a mix of lettuce as there was a lot of arugula. For dessert we tried the chocolate chili tart. It was good & rich..the chili added a kick. It definitely is spicy. The ambiance is great! The view of the rolling fields and trees is a great escape from the city life. The high ceilings and modern lodge like interior are appealing and give that sense of "wow". But that's where the wow ended for us. While service was good, the food was lacking and overpriced. - The glass of Moscato was $13, which is overpriced once one knows the price of an entire bottle. - The Bone Marrow was flavorful, but one bone had no marrow what so ever. Surly when they cut into that bone they would have seen that. But they served it anyway. So, felt ripped off for that appetizer. - The Lobster Bisque lacked Lobster! it was all bisque. even just a few pieces of lobster would have made up for something. so disappointing. the only good part was the old bay seasoning on the croistini. Everyone else seemed to enjoy the experience, but for us to have such a lackluster meal at a place that's so highly rated, had us eager to leave and go elsewhere. the food looks phenomenal, from what we saw coming out of the kitchen, but what was brought to us had us feeling the place was overpriced. Excellent food and service to start. The atmosphere is bright, open, windows all around to a great view of the local farm land. The food is consistently very good to great with seasonal options. Bar offerings and wine list are very good as well. One of the best if not the best option in the local area so a must try if in area or looking for a place to drive to. read more

I've been here two times to celebrate milestones at my job, and I'm looking forward to coming back for a third. Driving through Ayer and Groton to arrive here is always a lovely time, especially as the sun begins settings. Leading up to the restaurant is Groton Inn, and when you arrive there is plentiful parking. Upon entering the restaurant, you can immeditely tell that you've entered a pretty swanky place. The central piece in the foyer is a giant wine bottle, and to your immediate right is the kitchen/prep area and a mountain of meat. Service was fast and polite and we were brought to our table promptly. It's worth mentioning that both times we reserved our table 1 week prior on Resy. I don't know how busy this place gets on a typical night. Here's some of what we ordered: ~ BONELESS CENTER CUT RIBEYE § 65 | Grilled Trevisano | Fat Moon Mushrooms | Sweet Gorgonzola Butter ~ This tasted awesome. I basically inhaled mine as soon as it arrived. I will admit that for $65, the amount of meat was a little disappointing. I think it was a 3/4" cut, ~ POTATO-CRUSTED HALIBUT § 44 | Champagne Beurre Blanc | Leek Risotto | Paprika Oil ~ Another winner. Fish was cooked perfectly, and the risotto was amazing. ~ POUTINE § 24 | Cheddar Cheese Curds | Braised Short Rib | Gravy | Scallions ~ I think the ingredients speak for themselves. This dish rules. We sat at the bar, it took a while for us to be noticed by one of 2 bartenders. It was a Monday afternoon and it is a small bar that wasn't busy. It also took a while to notice we were ready to order. They seemed preoccupied with appeared to be a few regulars at the bar who all already had drinks and food in front of them. The hummus appetizer was very good but it did have onions on it which was not listed on the menu. The cocktails were just ok. We ordered a bunch of food to go and were very disappointed when we got home. The short rib dinner was supposed to come with baby corn and salsa verde, neither were included. Instead there were pearl onions which were not listed on the menu and we don't like onions. The short rib was dry and the potatoes were just soggy and mushy. Not worth $44. The sautéed greens were supposed to be cooked with bacon and garlic but just tasted extremely salty. Almost inedible. The Caesar salads were a handful of pitiful looking romaine and a side of dressing and bread crumbs. No cheese at all. They were supposed to have grana padano. Definitely not an $18 dollar salad. The margarita flatbread was also underwhelming. It barely had pesto or mozzarella and the tomatoes were not roasted. Overall we spent $300 (250 for the bill and 50 for the undeserved tip). Not happy and definitely not returning. Will make sure to share with our friends and family so they don't waste their money. read more

Mike made the best cosmo I have had in a long time. Made exactly to order in an adult size martini glass. The wine was a generous pour. Shrimp app, although different than the last time, was fresh and tender. The burger was ordered medium, but was well done when it was delivered. Mike offered to send it back, but not wanting to waste food, I didn't take him up on his offer. He really wanted to make it right and also offered a complimentary dessert. Classy. The food here was fantastic! My family and I went here this past Friday and it was our first time coming. We were all impressed! The little leaf salad with shrimp is yummy. They had a variety of nonalcoholic drink options which I really appreciated. Our waitress was outstanding. The food was brought out pretty quickly considering we had a large group. Our waitress brought out a water pitcher for each side of our table which you don't often get in other restaurants. The inside of the restaurant was loud but we had a nice private room. I agree with the other reviews that said the view is beautiful and the wait staff is great. The food is not good. I got eggs Benedict and my husband got the chicken sandwich. His sandwich was very dry and the fries looked to have come directly out of a bag of frozen fries. My eggs were cooked well but really needed some salt and I'm not sure shat the sauce on top was but really didn't taste like hollandaise. I had high hopes but we spent a lot of money for less than a mediocre meal. read more

We have been to Forge and Vine a couple times for special events. We recently had some time to kill on a Saturday night and took a chance to see if we could get a table, as we have always needed a reservation. We lucked out and were able to get two seats at the bar upon arrival. I ordered a Mule Cider Mocktale and my husband had a beer. I was very impressed with my mocktale. For food we order oysters on the half shell, a salad and a charcuterie board. Our food arrived quickly, was fresh and delicious. Our bartender was friendly and prompt. We love the farm to table food and the atmosphere. We will continue to come to Forge and Vine. read more

We went here with our kids to celebrate my birthday. We enjoyed the open kitchen and seeing the working kitchen. They also had a kid's menu for coloring and to pick from. We had the charcuterie board, flat bread, cheeseburgers, and scallops. Everything tasted very fresh and the atmosphere with the rolling hills in the back was very nice. The only thing we would have liked to change is the wait on the food. The first food item took 40-45 mins to come out(which was the charcuterie board). With the kids(6,7), it was a little too long of a wait. Luckily the kids were able to eat off the board but we ate quite a bit of the board until the main meals came out. Perhaps next time though we would ask for the kids items to come out first. read more

Heard of this place last year, when we visited gibbet hill grill. We only heard of forge & vine from a fire they had & was shut down from clients that came to gibbet hill for dinner. We were looking for a place for a celebration retirement dinner. We were thinking of going to Gibbet Hill, but they didn't take reservations for a group of 4. Forge & Vine did take reservations for an early dinner. The restaurant is very nice inside and outside, it was warm inside with the fire placing burning, our table was in front of the fireplace and had a great view of the outdoor surroundings. The staff was very friendly and our 1st time here. Our server was very good, and attentive, frequently checking on us, even when it got busy. The food is made to order fresh, we all had eaten at Gibbet Hill, but found this Resturant more warm, welcoming and friendly staff. The food came out fast and was supper delicious. For appetizers we had the fried calamari, roasted brussel sprouts, and one guest had the onion soup, delicious!!! We had the pan sear scallops, daily special... Chilean Sea bass, pan roasted duck breast, and the loaded Burger (burger with bacon, egg, avocados, lettuce, tomato and onion, which was too big to bite into) Desert we had coffee & dark chocolate cake. We found this place better than Gibbet hill grill. Would highly recommend!!! read more

We met some friends for dinner last night at Forge & Vine. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful with an outdoor deck along the back. Light and bright, and so welcoming. Our server was attentive and fantastic. She made some great recommendations when asked and told us all about the specials. She kept our drinks full and was very attentive without being intrusive. We started with brussels sprouts and calamari, both were delicious. For dinner, we had a New York strip, the short ribs, chicken Milanese, and salmon. Everyone said their meals were excellent. The steaks were perfectly cooked, the short rib melted in your mouth. I highly recommend F&V and we will definitely be back. My only regret was we were having such a great time and enjoying our food so much, that I didn't get as many pictures as I would have liked. read more

Service was good-bar seats-drinks delicious. But nothing spectacular after that. Not a crumb, cracker, bread offered. 54$ filet plate arrived with medium cooked meat (med-rare ordered) and literally one asparagus stalk chopped up, Gorgonzola and bordelaise absolutely nonexistent on the plate, but rather 12 fingerling potatoes heaped in a pile. It was weird, like a child plated it. The other meal, 41$, steak frites, also overcooked, tasted good but the chimichurri sauce was also nonexistent and sadly a bore. We live in Groton and have frequented Forge and Vine many times. Last night we went there with a couple of friends and there were several things that to my standards were not right. Upon entering the restaurant it seemed very warm. Come to find out that on a hot night (85'F outside) the AC system was not adequate to keep the place cool. Cocktails - Which we all ordered drinks. The drinks are on the expensive and skimpy side there. My Gimlet was served half full with only one ice cube. I felt that I was being cheated, plus it was not a very cold drink. My friend had a similar size cocktail, which it too was only half full. Plus, my wife's Martini was also luke warm and we all required asking for more ice on the side. Upon ordering a second round I told the waitress to tell the bartender not to be so skimpy this time! It still was not much better. At around $16.00 a drink, I want to be served a full glass, not halfway full. I don't think that is unreasonable. Next, I ordered a half dozen oysters at $4.50 each. What was served was very pricey and some of the smallest oysters I have ever been served out in a restaurant. Oyster prices at restaurants have gone through the roof. But for six, this appetizer was $27.00 - I am not cheap, but I felt this was a bit much for what you got. Then I ordered a wedge and blue cheese salad. Which was priced at $17.00. That os $4.00 dollars higher than even at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. What I received, was a full head of lettuce, cut in two with very little dressing. Overkill for how much lettuce there was on the plate, and accompanied with little dressing. They were accommodating a brought me more dressing for the salad. Give the cost of a head of lettuce, to toss a scant amount of dressing and then overpriced it, sure is a profit maker along with what they are charging you for a short-sized drink. Finally, I had the Margarita flatbread at $20.00 for my main course. It was good, but here again 'twenty bucks' for a small pizza? My wife paid the bill. I think the food and tax for our share was about $160.00, plus a $32.00 tip. Paying nearly $200 for 2 drinks, a tiny Ice tea, salad and a flatbread pizza I think is a bit much. Forge & Vine is truly starting to outprice itself. Going forward, I am going to start placing my business for dining out elsewhere. One other point, I along other people who have commented here, Forge & Vine's menu seems to be somewhat limited and a lot of money to spend for a meal that is NOT 5-stars. read more

I will start this by saying that this restaurant is absolutely beautiful. I would describe it as an upscale tavern type of vibe. Nice décor, nice lighting, and gorgeous views if you are sitting by a window. The open concept kitchen is a cool feature without being distracting. Our waitress was fantastic. The service was top-notch throughout our whole meal. The appetizers were excellent. We ordered the calamari and poutine. Pricy, yes, but the quality, taste, and portion size justified the price IMO. The poutine with the short-rib was phenomenal, and I would come back here just for that. I have to knock off a star for our entrees. While both of our steaks were cooked to our liking, we weren't that impressed with the flavor. My $54 filet was served cut into three tiny pieces, and both the filet and the sauce it was served with were overly salty. I actually enjoyed the side of potatoes more than the filet. If we had not gotten the appetizers, we would have spent over $100 and still left hungry. read more

This is our go-to girls dinner spot, and our last visit was one of the best yet! We were seated early for our rez, and the winter menu maintained some of our favs from prior (namely the charcuterie board!) with some yummy additions. Our waiter Cody was AWESOME. We have some food allergies in our group and he was so attentive, taking extra caution by confirming things with the kitchen on at least 2 occasions. Forge and Vine is an excellent venue overlooking an amazing view of farm fields. The dark open concept with the food prep exposed to the public provides a great experience. The cocktails were amazing and I highly recommend anyone going to get one. The service was excellent. I have to be honest though the food was not up to par with the rest of the restaurant. Yes the food was good and I could taste the high quality ingredients being used in them but the menu was safe. There was nothing that stood out. The short rib was cooked well and was well seasoned but to be honest it was nothing more than a deconstructed beef stew. The vegan option looked very plain and the scallops were also very simple. So while the entire experience was great my feedback would be to add some flavors to the menu. read more

I went for brunch and found very limited vegetarian offerings. I selected the avocado toast and was thoroughly disappointed. Instead of fresh avocados, they used a pre-packaged spread with very little flavor. The feta cheese was similarly flavorless and even the sourdough bread wasn't very good. For $18, I was expecting more. The banana bread, however, was excellent. The fresh fruit was also good. The setting and the service were both lovely. read more

Ditto the shrimp appetizer, which had a lovely wood grilled flavor but still tasted like shrimp. Would definitely come back.
