If I could give a lower rating for the planning experience, I would. The venue is undeniably beautiful--but unfortunately, that's where the positives end. Our wedding planning process was riddled with issues that made what should've been an exciting time incredibly frustrating. Midway through planning, our experienced coordinator was abruptly replaced with someone far less familiar with weddings. That led to several mistakes on the day, including my partner and I seeing each other before our scheduled first look. I had to repeatedly correct revised plans with inaccurate meal choices and start times that contradicted our contract. When I brought these issues up, I was met with defensiveness--not solutions. I was told I could use the bridal salon to change, but no one mentioned needing to lock the door. Someone walked in on me, which was deeply upsetting and avoidable. Even worse: our DJ and photographer had to step in to keep things running smoothly--roles they weren't hired for. I later learned other vendors have had tense experiences with this venue's management, which doesn't surprise me now. After posting my original review, the owner responded publicly--not to take accountability, but to deflect blame onto me and our vendors, even accusing others of making "disparaging remarks" out of "fear." Their inability to accept constructive feedback only confirmed what I experienced throughout the process: beautiful venue, but a deeply unprofessional and dismissive approach to communication. I would not recommend this venue to anyone. The setting is lovely, but that means very little when you're met with chaos, deflection, and poor leadership during one of the most important days of your life. P.S. To the owner, if you're considering replying with another dismissive or defensive comment: please don't. My experience is valid, and I'm sharing it so others can make an informed decision. The diner at the resort is a great place to visit for an all American home cooked meal. The staff are always kind, polite and friendly to everyone. They greet you at the door and make sure you find a comfortable place to dine inside the rustic and antique decorated dining room. The staff serve you from the buffet line that has salad, pasta, fried chicken, baked chicken, ribs, pot roast, potatoes, green beans and bread. When you're done with your meal they have pecan pie, ice cream, banana pudding, cookies and other delicious desserts. The price range is $20-$30 but you can visit the buffet line as many times as you wish until you're satisfied. My experience at their restaurant has always been very satisfying so that's the reason I gladly awarded them 5 stars. Keep up the great job and I can't wait until my next visit. read more

Had a pleasant experience at Forrest Hills Resort to celebrate my anniversary. Check-in & check-out are standard. This is not a posh place. This is a place to get away from all the noise & busyness of life. There is horseback riding & carriage rides as well & they'll coordinate activities off the property nearby if you like. There are jacuzzis in the rooms dedicated to couples & it's a great amenity to have. The 1st cabin we stayed in jacuzzi didn't get hot so we were upgraded to Cupid's Hideaway. The Cupid's cabin was much bigger & felt like an apartment. They had a book you could sign which was sweet. The Lovebirds cabin had more of a modern setup & larger frig. I honestly preferred the setup of the Lovebirds cabin but the size of Cupid's Hideaway. The carriage ride could have been better. The gentleman who took us was great but we didn't have a scenic route. We only dined in for breakfast & it did the job. There were plenty of families & couples at the resort as well. Absolutely breathtaking Mountain View's. Rented a cabin it was very clean warm and cozy. Whirlpool hot tub with views of the mountains. Breakfast every morning at the on site restaurant was excellent every day. Staff was above and beyond. Chef was superb and very friendly. Visited with the guests very welcoming. Ordered dinner as take out from the restaurant and was more than satisfied with quality and portions. Will go back again and again. So much to see in the area. Dahlonega is a beautiful picturesque town with wonderful shops and things to do. read more

First off, the room in the Mountain Laurel Inn was lovely. It had free WiFi that worked well even though there was no data. The complimentary toiletries were nice, and SpongeBob played on the TV for hours, which was great. There was a fireplace upstairs. The room was cozy if you didn't look too much into it. The outlets have a mind of their own... they kept rejecting our chargers, and the jacuzzi in the bedroom was strange. It reminded me of some freaky booktok fantasy. Wouldn't you be slipping and sliding around in there? When I arrived there was no one in sight. I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone, and everyone left, so they didn't get killed by night. The bathroom was very outdated and reminded me of an 80's horror movie. I was half expecting Freddy Kruger to hand me a towel. Upstairs by the kitchenette lived a family of ants. They were huge harmless black ants, but I'm speciesist, so I didn't like them anyway. The breakfast was decent, and the horseback riding was really fun. My cabin was haunted. The hotel is about 20 minutes away from a small downtown area. There isn't much to do there unless you like antique shopping, then that place will be your haven as it was mine. If you're used to pristine amenities, this might be a disappointment- but if you're looking for an upgrade to backwoods backpacking, this might be the resort for you. I stayed in the mountain laurel lodge- upon arrival my room keeps we're missing so we got moved to an adjacent room (not sure if that would become our downfall). When we walked in our room, we were impressed by the size and layout. There's two floors, two queen beds, two balconies (on private, one shared) a fire place, jacuzzi tub, breakfast nook, mini fridge, and microwave. First impressions were great but upon further inspection we realized the place needed a deep cleaning for us to truly settle in. There was dog hair on the comforters, bugs all over (although they were dead), debris in the corners. It looked like someone tidied up but hadn't disinfected anything. I honestly could not feel comfortable the entire time without wiping down everything myself. Food- subpar. Super glad I didn't upgrade to the private dinner. Breakfast every morning is the same, and judging by the reviews has been that way for close to a decade. You'll have a buffet of grits, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, eggs, a meat, and fruit. Day one was good- day 3 was barely tolerable. We ordered from the restaurant twice, and quickly realized the best things were the wings & pizzas. The home cooked meals tasted like slop and were expensive. I got a salad one night and was super excited to eat it because it looked great but as I looked closer, the tomatoes were covered in mold. The pool was great and I got a pretty decent couples massage but overall nothing wowed me. I had a great time with my hubby and was grateful to be 10 min from amicalola falls and 20 min from small city centers but I had to keep my expectations low because this stay was characterized by good first impressions being ruined by a closer inspection. read more

Forrest Hills Resort provided everything for our fairytale mountain wedding!! Levi, the wedding coordinator was a superstar! He anticipated every one of our needs and exceeded all expectations! The on-site lodging was so convenient!! The rooms were precious with a touch of rustic charm. The lodge's common room and party deck were spacious enough for all of our guests to celebrate all weekend! The horse drawn princess carriage was stunning! Our rehearsal dinner was an incredible Italian feast and Oh My Gosh the wedding buffet was FIVE STAR! Everyone loved the food! I wish I had another child getting married because I would love to do every bit of it again!! Ask for Secret Garden window seating bc it has unbeatable scenic mountain nature atmosphere to enjoy relaxing dining and you get what you pay for with the SeaBass or mearloaf are my favorites and their great ice cream on pies are a surprise delight. What we wanted: *A nice, quiet stay in a clean cabin, not too far from town, but far enough to feel "off the map". *A decent breakfast (included) *Friendly staff *A hot hot tub and covered deck to relax in/on. What we got: *A beautiful, large, clean, cabin supplied with paper towels, dish soap, dinnerware, shampoo, body wash. *A breakfast buffet, that was hot and fresh, and the cold items were cold and fresh. Eggs, Bacon, Grits, Sausage, and Gravy, Cereal, Bagels, Fruit, Water, Juice, Coffee and tea. *Everyone was so nice, and welcoming. Check in was smooth, and friendly. She went over the map- where our cabin, the restaurant, and other places of interest were. Even highlighting them for us. She gave me tips on using the fireplace (don't burn the cabin down), and what time breakfast was. She also recommended items from the lunch/dinner menu. Check in was a great experience. Breakfast staff (I hate calling them that, because they made us feel like family!), they made sure we had everything we needed. Wonderful experience both days we ate there. *The hot tub was great. It smelled clean and did not take long to heat up. Very relaxing. The covered deck facing the woods was quiet and calming. I imagine in the summer, the bugs would be a problem, so plan ahead. I enjoyed sitting on the swing and rocking to the sound of the birds chirping. We stayed in the Lovebirds 2 cabin. Highly recommended! It was a very clean, and well stock with towels, pillows, etc. Based on the cabin, I would think this is one of the upgraded ones. The fridge was bigger than a mini- which we were so thankful for. I really enjoyed or cabin at Forrest Hills. However, there's two point I'd like to make that made me uncomfortable with our experience. First off, our very first impression of this place was that of a smug, not so friendly gentleman... and I use that word loosely. We tell him we are here to check in and he really doesn't give us much information. Just basically hands us our keys and tells us there's a sign that'll lead us to our cabin... great. So, we get back in the car and head over to our cabin. We open the door and are greeted with the smell of probably one of the cheapest plug-ins I've ever had to smell. So, we decide to unplug it. Luckily, the smell went away fairly fast. The private cabin had a mini-kitchen with a small fridge. A table and chair for 4 people with plates, glassware, utensils. The seating area is nice... direct tv, couch, ottoman, and a fire place. The next section of the room had the hot tub and the king-sized bed and a door to the bathroom. We were here for 4 days and 3 night. Each morning, we got an all you can eat breakfast that included, biscuits & gravy, eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, yogurt, fruit, etc. The first morning we had breakfast was the only time we really enjoyed the food. The rest of the days were just bland. Here is my other point that made me feel uncomfortable. On the 2nd day of our breakfast we are greeted at the front door of the dining area. Well, my wife was greet. The woman didn't even bother looking at me. Throughout the 30 minutes we were there, she never once said a word to me, but asked my wife.... who was sitting in front of me, if everything was ok. Now, I dont want to put my wife in situations where she feels uncomfortable, so I held my tongue. I'm a sucker for customer service and I sure as hell don't take no racist shit from anyone. As much as we enjoyed the cabin, we both agreed we would try our luck with another cabin resort where people treat everyone equally. read more

The first time I have been here was probably 4 years ago and at that time I would have given 3 stars to the place but this time I think there is a lot of improvements compared to last time so 4 stars is deserved. The cabins are pretty decent and while there is not stove you still have a full fridge and microwave. I love the hot tub in the room so I don't need to deal with the cold outside. They are dog friendly and this time they had a beautiful dog bed in the room that we fell in love with. My dog loves it. I wish I could take it home lol The restaurant was actually much better this time compared to the first time I been here. The food options were wide, the portions appropriate and it was pretty decent. I definitely recommend to order a dish instead of the buffet though. Unless you are really into traditional southern food. It looked a lil too greasy for me. The horse riding is really fun. The facilities is great for a very relaxing time. Married 07/22/2022 - Happiest Day of my life, loved Jackie but Forrest Hills Mountain Resort was an... Awful place and the pictures posted are nothing compared to what you will experience. The first cabin was full of bees in the bathroom and the ODOR, dust and unclean areas was AWFUL. The jacuzzi was horrible and who would get it that. Disgusting Transferred to SECOND cabin, at the entrance door there was a gas like odor and dust, pet dander, mold and spider webs everywhere. We could not shower properly the water wasn't hot. If it wasn't my wedding and family was not there I would have ran. I was extremely embarrassed for the amount of money we paid. It's was horrible The owner was not sympathetic to the ruins on my wedding experience. She had more excuses and no care for our concerns. However if you want to stay secluded maybe this is the place. There are NO activities on the property. The landscaping is spooky and hasn't been cutback in years read more

My husband and I had the best time celebrating our anniversary at Forrest Hills Mountain Resort. We loved our stay in the Mead-o-lark cabin, had a great time trail riding, and exploring historic Dahlonega. The cabin was cozy and clean with plenty of places to sit and enjoy nature. The barn and crew were attentive, informative, and lead us on a safe and fun trail ride. The horses looked well, fed, and happy to work. The food was average. We'll definitely be back as it was fun place to unwind and be in nature. read more

Our cabin #2 was so dirty. Smashed roaches that had been there for awhile. Stove burners full of grease. Broom and thing to pick up debris in corner to front door, RIGHT NEXT TO KITCHEN, was absolutely filthy. On a positive note, dining room staff couldn't have been more professional and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our one week stay at this resort just after Christmas 2021. We were very concerned driving up from Tampa that we would miss the front desk staff when we arrived Sunday night (especially when our 7.5 hour road trip turned out to be a 10 hour trip because of traffic through Atlanta). So we called to advise the office we would be late. Nothing to worry about - the staff said they were staying open late to accommodate all the late arrive guests. We booked a two bedroom cabin that was situated at the end of the property. It was well appointed, clean and quiet. We enjoyed a full breakfast buffet every morning and we were able to cook full meals in our cabin's kitchen or dine at their restaurants in the evening. Our gas fireplace in the living room provided a nice relaxing evening every night. The staff at the resort was always helpful and accommodating and treated us like family. The cost of the cabin was a bargain compared to other vacation options we looked at. We can't wait to come back and hope to plan another vacation in the fall months because I bet the fall colors are spectacular! read more

If you are looking for a secluded getaway -- even with children -- the Forrest Hills Mountain Resort in Dahlonega, Georgia has something for everyone. There are individual cabins, lodges for small groups and the Mountain Laurel Inn that is setup almost like townhouses that's "camping" with hotel ambiance. Our room had a loft on the top floor with a kitchenette, a seating area, and a king size bed. It also opened to a community balcony facing the woods and mountains. The lower level had the bathroom and a bedroom with a king size bed and Jacuzzi tub and private balcony facing the same direction as the upper balcony. Breakfast served every morning was delicious and offered lots of variety. The staff were all very friendly, especially Payton and her twin sister. We will definitely be back. read more

Nice place to stay in a beautiful setting. We stayed in one of the lodges (Deer Trail). The rooms were somewhat old looking, but clean and spacious. Though there were no microwaves in the rooms, the lodge had a common area with a full kitchen. We only used the restaurant for breakfast, and it seemed quite adequate with good food and a friendly helpful staff. Nearly everything about the resort was excellent; from the landscaping to the staff and especially the cost, real value for price. The only complaints I could make were that some areas were a bit junky, with unsightly piles of old lumber etc. lying around. However, these junky areas were mostly away from the main living areas of The resort. One more thing I forgot to mention. Unlike in so many hotels, the free WiFi, while unsecured, was actually usable! read more

We stayed in a roomy Cupid's Hideout cabin with spa in a separate room off the bedroom for 5 nights. Loved the swinging chair and hanging out on the balcony overlooking the forest and trail. Nice setting with lots of space between us and the next cabin. Small refrigerator held leftovers, snacks and drinks--not much else. Kitchen wasn't set up for cooking--just warming up food in microwave. All staff were friendly, helpful. Breakfasts were delicious and the chef varied offerings from day to day. Not sure why the TV channels were limited during our stay but we always found something to watch. Beautiful grounds! read more

We searched out a new place to eat tonight, and came across this place. It is the secret garden restaurant at the Forrest hills resort. They had a buffet and menu, with limited options on both. The buffet had collard greens, Carolina bbq chicken, cream corn and a couple of other items. The buffet was $20, and so NOT WORTH IT!!! The menu items were extremely over priced as well. As far as the food goes, I do not recommend this place! We did not look at the cabins, so no opinion on that. read more

We spent four wonderful days at Forest Hill Resort. The accommodations of our private cabin (i.e., restaurant on property, full hot breakfast included with our stay, a fireplace and hot tub in our cabin, horseback riding, and trails on property to enjoy nature) were second to none. We can't say enough about Tammy, Zoe, and Amber--the pleasant, present, attentive, and welcoming dining staff. Staying here was one of the most relaxing, private, peaceful vacations we have had in many years. It is a hidden gem we found and thoroughly enjoyed. Photos are misleading, bed sizes are falsely advertised. Check in was easy and front desk woman was nice but after getting into our room (#2 in the treetop lodge) I was disappointed to find that instead of 2 king size beds, there are 2 queen beds. I went back to the front desk and explained maybe I was put in the wrong room by accident as my reservation was for a room with king beds. She checked and advised me all the rooms in that lodge have king beds and they put king size sheets on them so they should be correct but she would contact the manager. Upon contacting the manager she advised they are king beds and there's no accommodations they could offer as they are completely booked for the night so there was not even another room they could offer us. I requested a partial discount since it was 4th of July weekend so trying to book a completely different hotel would have been extremely difficult and expensive, and she let me know she would leave my info with the manager. When I went to check out, the manager or owner was there and I advised I was upset about the incorrectly advertised bed sizes and she was dismissive and flat out rude to me about the whole situation. I explained I have king beds at home, not Cali king and the ones In my room at the resort were much smaller and all she had to say was "the receipt where they bought them from says king" and that was that. There were a lot of other things that were disappointing about this location compared to how they present it online, it's misleading to say the least about the condition of the property, amenities and things to do. But the treatment from the manager was what pushed me over the edge to do this review to try and warn potential bookers. I honestly feel like she may be prejudice against younger or interracial couples because an older white couple that checked in right before us was not happy with something in their room and were immediately moved into another room, but me and my partner were told they were booked solid for the weekend and had nowhere else to put us and they never responded to my request for a partial discount (side note not a single car was in the parking lot for treetop lodge other the ours and we didn't see a single other patron the entire stay at our lodge). Seeing other reviews, I'm sure the owner will come up with some excuse and not resolve the issue at all, so future bookings be warned. If you have a problem when you get there, it'll already too late for you. read more

We were returning guests. Our smoke alarm kept going off during the night for about an hour - 5 separate occasions. We had to open the outside door for fresh air, and fan the smoke alarm with pillows to clear the alarm. We eventually put out the fire in the fireplace. The next morning we asked the owner for some kind of discount on the room. No discount was provided, even though our evening was ruined. We will never return to this "resort". I recommend to everyone, Long Mountain Lodge cabins instead. They are better quality, less expensive, and their staff more friendly. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE! SKEEVY!!!!!!!!!!The room was never cleaned... We went to make coffee and there was moldy coffee grinds and coffee still in the pot. Sink would not drain and Maintenance finally came after a hour and a half. They poured a ton of drano down the sink and left it overnight. Staff told us to brush our teeth in the shower. The room smelled musty and you could see dust everywhere. The air filters were not changed and dust was crawling from it. Floors were completely dirty and there was a bug infestation. There was pubic hair in the bathroom and vanity drawers. We found a ton of bugs behind and under the bed as well as trash. Spider webs in the corners. We had traveled from Florida and could not find another place to stay. Staff offered a measly $100.00 credit which was nothing for all the headaches. They didn't seem to embarrassed about the filth and had plenty of excuses .If it was not for our Kids we would have packed up and left that night. The resort is old which we knew, But this was just old and dirty. I would not stay here if you paid me to. Staff was emailed after our stay to discuss all the issues and they never responded. This is the skeeviest place you will ever stay. Yes the owner did offer to clean the room but at that point we didn't feel comfortable with anyone being there without us and didn't want to sit there while she did a deep clean. This room was beyond a cleaning and needed major attention. The only way it got this bad was from constant neglect. read more

We went for a retreat and stayed in Deer Trail Lodge, which was wonderful. It seems like the resort is working on upgrades, so your experience may depend on which facility you book. For our retreat, the Deer Trail Lodge was perfect. We used the fireplace and the hot tub both evenings, and we had plenty of common space for time together. Everyone was also very happy with their rooms and beds and the meals in the restaurant were all very good. I'm surprised that other reviewers found the food bland, because everyone in our group was very happy with the quality and preparation. If you're looking for "luxury," then you may want to choose a different, (ie more expensive) resort. However, if you are looking for a clean, comfortable, well-kept and affordable space to get away for a few days, Forrest Hills is a fine choice. We would be very happy to have next year's retreat here as well! read more

Our kids gave us a weekend getaway for Christmas to Forrest Hills Resort. We arrived New Years Day. We absolutely loved every minute of it. We stayed at Mountain Laurel Inn which has a king size bed and jacuzzi tub downstairs and the upstairs has a king size bed and fireplace. Nicely laid out. Quiet and very comfortable decks on both levels. Food in the restaurant was wonderful! Najja(sp) was awesome. Excellent host, server, and even room service delivery. Our church had a weekend retreat here Labor Day Weekend and we had a blast. It lasted from Saturday afternoon to Monday right after lunch. My list of pro's and con's: Pros 1. Beautiful recreational area. In the middle of no where so I had no service, but ISN'T THAT THE POINT OF A RETREAT. Even so, wifi is provided yes! (Ok that is like, three pro's in one) 2. Free wifi (as aforementioned) 3. Breakfast and dinner are provided (food is alright, best cafeteria food I've ever had in the US, for sure) 4. Horses and horseback riding! 5. Rustic living and shared space - I liked how the living area was one lodge (we lived in the TreeTopper lodge), which includes a kitchen, fridge, microwave and coffee maker, to name a few appliances. Our rooms were seconds away from the main living room area. 6. Common areas like the conference center are open all night, if reserved! 7. Swimming pool! 8. Huge rooms- a queen, a king, and a pull out couch. Cons 1. Half court basketball court 2. Everything smells a little old and dusty. Especially musty because of all the humidity and old wood. 3. We had to figure out our own thing about lunches 4. Cost of horseback riding for an hour is $35 (not covered in your lodging/meal cost). 5. Pull out couch bed sucks. 6. Balcony behind each room will lock behind you, so make sure you have your room key. As I calculated the results of my pro and con list, I realized the pros greatly outweighed the cons. A great and beautiful venue for any retreat from the city. Apparently, it's also a great venue for a wedding, as we noticed at least two weddings happen in the two nights we were here! read more

First of all, this was a honeymoon destination so in my eyes, every day just seemed brighter than the last. That being said, my wife and I absolutely loved Forrest Hills Resort. We checked in on Sunday night and checked out on Friday morning. We arrived after hours on Sunday. The staff was kind enough to leave our things in an envelope on the front door. We had breakfast every morning we were there. We had dinner every Monday-Wednesday. On Thursday my wife and I wanted to visit Atlanta and the refunded us our $40 prepaid dinner without a hassle! This is the most awful place someone can rent a cabin from, it was filthy and the sheets hasnt been washed. It smelled awful. The staff was rude and hateful when i asked for towels and for clean sheets. The restaurant had bland food and not much to choose from. The horse trails was also awful and their horses were poor and ran into the ground, way under weight and their hoofs was in bad shape. The staff at the corral was rude and sweared alot and they had cowboys want to be's working there and they was very unknowledged about horses. The trails were over grown as well. read more

We love escaping to this rustic resort. The staff is extremely friendly. We were only able to stay 1 night, but they allowed us to check in early. We headed to a local winery that is just a short drive away. When we returned, we enjoyed the dinner buffet in the couples only restaurant. There was prime rib, chicken Alfredo, and blackened tilapia. Sides were rolls, mashed potatoes, green beans, steamed veggies... I might be forgetting some things. The food isn't 5 star dining, but it's good comfort food. For dessert, there was delicious apple cobbler. I asked if there was ice cream to go with it, and they brought some out. All the cabins have hot tubs, which is nice for relaxing. Ours was one of their country cabins that has been updated. We enjoyed it. The breakfast buffet is fantastic and has lots of options like eggs, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, bacon, and sausage. There are some things that could use updating, but we really enjoyed our nice, quiet getaway. read more

My wife and I just spent 3 days and two nights at the resort, and had a great time. The staff is friendly and will help with anything you need. We had the buffet dinner and it was very good. When we asked for a differant dessert the waiteress brought us a brownie with ice cream. The cabin was awesome, no kitchenette just a microwave. But we did not plan on eating in. The only problem was the hot tub it never got hot, just warm. Thats the reason for 4 stars. No problem with our motorcycle the staff even let us know which roads were the most scenic. I will say I will definitely be coming to visit this venue for one reason, and one reason only. Jackie! What an asset to the venue and brand, she is incredibly sweet and so pleasant to work with. I spoke to her many times during my time trying to book, with covid and all of the things happening in the world. She was such a breathe of Fresh air and should be the example that all other employees should follow. I wish I had this experience traveling always! read more

Such a beautiful and romantic spot 15 minutes from Dahlonega. Hidden place and reasonably priced. Loved the food, outdoor hot tub (almost private), breathtaking scenery, horses etc. last but not least fantastic customer service. Nicely maintained property. read more
