This review is in regards to my most recent tree service, roughly 3 weeks ago. Forrest, the owner, provided me an estimate on a simple job of tidying up 2 trees and grinding stumps of smaller, various trees. I was told that what I was paying for was to remove any stump that I wanted around the property, as they will have their machine on the job. Fast forward to the job itself, the workers were on time and the stump grinding machine was delivered by an independent contractor. The reason I knew this was because the gentleman immediately told me he does not work for Forrest and he wanted to charge me extra which was not previously agreed upon (he wanted 500%+ of the original estimate to grind stumps). The man proceeded to grind 2 small stumps and then left, knowing that there were stumps in the front and back yards and all were actually marked out with spray paint. Nearly all stumps remain in the yard. As far as the tree trimming goes, the reason for the service in the first place was a tree previously covered in vines, and needed to be trimmed from the previous visit of killing said vines. There were 5+ employees that showed up to this very small job. All smoked cigarettes excessively, and to this day I am still finding cigarette butts all around the property. We had agreed to trim only the lowest branches and remove some excess weight; Forrest Tree Service removed the middle branches instead and left the dead low hanging branches entirely. They also left a massive portion of the tree with dead vines and dead branches. One employee asked me to check the tree and let him know if anything was missed. I pointed out these items and the response I got was "Well Forrest (the owner) told me just get what you can and don't worry about the rest". I was charged for the whole job, but did not receive anything close to that. I have been calling Forrest Tree Service for these past 3 weeks and have been told, several times a week, that Forrest will call me back. To this day, he has not taken the time to call back as previous reviews have stated there always seems to be an emergency as the reason for ignoring customers. Most recently the woman on the phone informed me that "Forrest was planning on stopping by on Friday". This was the first I had heard of this. I was also told he would call immediately because the receptionist would call him directly. Needless to say, Forrest never showed and he has yet to call back. Hopefully this helps others to avoid these unnecessary issues. read more

You get what you pay for! I hired this company to remove several trees and grind the stump amd roots of a large Bradford Pear in my front yard that is a nuisance tree. The tree cutting portion of the service was good but the stump grinding was horrible@ They were friendly enough but left so many roots near the stump which resulted in little shoots sprouting up. I called the company and they had their stump grinder call me, I told him what was happening and he said it is normal and just put some stump removal on them. So I cut them amd poured and painted stump remover on it and that lasted maybe another month before more grew. Here we are several months later and it just gets WORSE!! I went to try and dig down to see if I could dig parts out put I couldnt dig because roots they were right on the SURFACE!! Wasted money as now I am basically having to dig around the stump and roots and drill holes to pour in stump remover. At this rate I would have had better luck removing the stump myself and saved a TON of money! If you are just having them cut the tree you are fine but do not use them for stump grinding. You will have a nightmare. read more

Had the estimator (ryan) come out and look at 2 dead redwood trees in my back yard. Very professional, surprised after dealing with other boneheads from different companies. Ryan went through there process in great detail. Within minutes I knew I was going to hire them for the job. I needed my trees trimmed. I called Forrest Tree Service last month (February) and they came out and gave me an estimate. I agreed to the cost and they scheduled me for today (March). They showed up promptly at 8am, with a crew of 5 or 6 men and had all 3 trees large trees done and cleaned up within 2 hours. They took all of the branches and mess and even raked up my lawn to get all the little twigs and such. The trees look perfect and they were able to trim the trees as requested (one to be trimmed away from the house, one straight up, etc). They did a great job. I requested a tree removal quote on Yelp. Forrest was the first to respond and come out for a free estimate the same day. His quote was the lowest out of 6 and the only one to provide it in writing. He also quoted me for grinding all the stumps I had in my yard. I called to schedule and Britley was very helpful and got me in within the same Friday. They cut the tree down and cleaned up in about 4 hours. They came back Monday to grind the 5 stumps and were done within an hour and fifteen minutes. Overall, the process was quick and painless. Ryan and his crew were able to get them all down and logged or shredded and off my property. The response time was fast from initial contact to bid to completing the task. Working with Forrest Tree Service, Inc., this time, was dismaying. My prior experience with Forrest Tree Service, Inc. was stellar. It's service was on-time, fast, efficient and complete. Although its most recent bid for service was slightly higher than competitors, I choose them again based on their previous service. My main issue is communication. I called late June to request an estimate at a rental property. What I heard in response to my request was, "July 4, between 1 and 2 pm" . I questioned about working on July 4th and was told, "Yes, we will be working". I did not push for further clarification as I had a July 4th bid date with another vendor. I was at the rental at 1 pm on July 4. At 1:10, I called Forrest Tree Service, Inc. and discovered it was honoring the holiday. I left a message to call me so that I could learn what I had been scheduled for. July 5th came and went with no return call. I called on July 6th to learn that I had been scheduled for July 7th between 1 and 2 pm. I was at the rental property on July 7th at 1 pm. At 1:15, I called Forrest Tree Service, Inc. The person who answered the phone said that there was an emergency. A tree had fallen into someone's pool and it was unlikely I would get service that day. I asked when I would and the receptionist said that she would have Ryan contact me. Ryan contacted me soon after I terminated the call with the receptionist. He said that he would meet me on July 10 at Noon. He was early on July 10th and quickly developed an estimate. Thinking that I was only agreeing to the content of the estimate, I signed it. Apparently, signing the estimate was agreeing to have Forrest Tree Service, Inc. perform the service. A few days later, I called Forrest Tree Service, Inc. in order to schedule an appointment for service. No one answered the phone. I left a message to call me. No one returned my call. On July 18, one tenant sent an e-mail stating that a Forrest Tree Service, Inc. employee rang their doorbell, waking amother tenant. The employee asked what stuff Bob (which is me) wanted done. The tenant did not know and shut the door. Shortly, thereafter, Forrest Tree Service, Inc. employees started doing most, but not all of the work requested. If the employees mostly knew what needed to be done, why did they wake the tenant? Why did they not call me for job clarification? The tenant informed me that the company would be back the next day to do stump grinding. I called Forrest Tree Service, Inc. to ask that it not do the stump grinding as I remembered there is an electric line near one of the stumps to be ground. The receptionist did not think it would be a problem as the grinding seldom goes beyond 8 - 10 inches in depth. Still concerned about the potential danger, I asked that Ryan call me. The receptionist told me that she would relay that request to Ryan. A few minutes later, I went to the rental property to see what had been accomplished. I was shocked to see that the stump grinding had been performed. Fortunately, the electric line had not been encountered. There was still some minor amount of work that had not been done. On July 19th, I went to Forrest Tree Service, Inc. to pay its bill, too annoyed to want them to go back to the rental property and finish what I had asked to be done. Since Ryan had not called me, as I expected on the previous afternoon, I asked the receptionist if she had forwarded my request to Ryan. She said she had, but added that the company had been very busy and Ryan was out of the Sacramento area doing a job. What, no cell phone? The continual communication failures with me causes me to not recommend Forrest Tree Service, Inc. I will never hire Forrest Tree Service, Inc. again. read more

Ryan came out as planned to give estimate for two mulberry trees and four additional tree stumps to be ground. The trees were close to house and had been cut down halfway by a "friend" previously. Anyway, the crew came out took care of trees, delivered wood to neighbor across street and left mulch as requested. Very happy with service and would recommend Forrest Tree Service in future. Owner was great and easy to work with both during the estimate and when an issue arose. Yes I had an issue but Forrest was able to be receptive and address the issue. The crew didn't mark the sprinkler heads and when they dropped the tree it hit one breaking it. Also, when they were dropping limbs one came down across the roof knocking a shingle loose on the edge. I understand these things can happen but can be prevented with a little layout work first. I told forrest I have the supplies and can repair them no big deal - he offered taking $50 off for parts which is a bit more than what they cost so I just took $25 off. Some quirky things that put us off. Called for an estimate and said they would call back. I had to call back the next day and she told me it was already scheduled but we had never talked again. The estimate seemed pretty high for removal of one tree ($1500 for about 40-50 ft tree) and the stump grinding would have been $200 more, but we thought they might take greater care than others. We were ok with the actual removal, but Forrest Tree actually ruined some other landscaping elements. Ryan got upset on the phone when we asked for some kind of compensation, money off of the bill and basically demeaned my reasoning. Really a negative experience and never an apology. They responded to a BBB complaint once with some twisted facts (written by Ryan but signed by the secretary who is a relative of the own?) and then failed to respond after that. We never did get Ryan's last name which also seems a bit weird. It's difficult to tell who is in charge of this company if you have problem. They only accept checks on site, they do not accept credit/debit cards but will accept them over the phone. read more

I had Forrest Tree Service remove a 60-foot tall alder tree from my back yard because I was afraid that its poor health could have landed it on my house. A few of my neighbors had them do some work for them, and I wanted my problems dealt with too. Forrest Tree Service gave me a free estimate for my project, and we set up a date perform the work. The team showed up and got right to work. Being in the back yard, a climber had to go up and use ropes to bring branches down in relatively controlled manner. The rest of the team cut pieces smaller and moved them out to the front of the house. My wife was pleased that her rose bushes were not harmed. These guys knew exactly what they were doing, and appeared to work in a safe manner. They ran branches through a chipper with the chippings going into the back of a truck, loaded the wood into another truck, and hauled them away. About five hours later, my problem tree was gone. They also did some trimming and removed the remnants of a yew and crepe myrtle that had been planted many years ago with little thought for location. They do not remove stump grindings, which is clearly stated on the estimate. That is okay, because mulch can be good for the garden. Based on a referral, I called to have Forrest Tree Service come out an trim 4 trees in my yard, which included trimming a tall queen date palm and a very large sego palm tree. The crew did a great job with the palm trees, and even trimmed more rows that we originally talked about. The other 2 trees look great, and I expect will look even better one the start to have leaves coming out. They did a fantastic job of cleaning up the area after the work, as well as making sure to clean up in two of the neighbor's yards where they needed to work to get the trees trimmed properly. The only down side was a broken landscape light, which will have to be fixed. I would use them again for sure. read more
