I love this dog park. It's been my family's go to through multiple dogs since I was a kid. We love the trails and my dog loves being able to coexist with mostly very pleasant dogs. One thing I will warn is this summer has been a high rattlesnake year probably because of the construction nearby. I've heard of two bites and we had an encounter with one last week. I will definitely go because it's still my favorite but taking a short break while rattlesnake season is high. It's a beautiful park though so I hope you check it out at some point. read more

absolutely love this park... Thank you for installing new pins in the entryway gates! MAINTENANCE of the trail is amazing. If I could request one thing that would be to fix the potholes and low spots when entering the north gate entrance. It is hard to slow down on the freeway to gently pull in over all the low spots without bottoming out my car. it would be nice for the first 30 feet of the entrance to be leveled out a little bit more ... just some friendly input ... thank you for all you do to maintain this place! read more

This dog park is the absolute worst dog park I've ever been to, and I have been to most in and around Castle Rock and Denver. There are no sitting areas near the entrances for disabled or elderly to sit while their dogs can enjoy the park. There is no shade by the entrances. the only places to sit in the shade is if you can make it up the hill to the middle of the park, and it is a big park, and then they have a shed on each side with benches to sit on. the elderly and disabled may as well forget it!!! I have asked for picnic tables at the entrances and canopy for shade but they have refused to put anything in for those who can't make the walk. Also there are no trash cans inside the park for poo so there is a lot of dog poo that stays on the ground and doesnt get picked up. This is the worst park....0 stars read more

This used to be a great dog park but since they've "improved" it is terrible now. They have fenced in huge parts of the park, cutting the running room down by half, plus a dumb, unnecessary path throughout. Whoever designed and executed this new park should be fired for their stupidity. Dog parks should be geared for dogs and this one is now what is better for humans. No trash cans throughout, only one dumpster in the parking lot. Incredibly disappointing. read more

The park is nice - great for dogs. BUT the dog owners are another story. So many are totally oblivious to their dogs - there is so much dog dirt that isn't picked up. Place is great if you want to get the minimal of hiking adventures. Unfortunately like most off leash dog parks people bring there untrained dogs and not registered dogs and some who don't socialize there dogs a lot. Sometimes crashes the vibe for most proper dogs who go to just play since the untrained crazy animals mess the vibe of the park. A lot of the time some people are lazy and think there is a maid to pick up there dog shit. If you have a dog, go here! Your dog will enjoy time off leash and you will enjoy the walk!This Park is set up as a giant walking loop with gorgeous views of the front range and Denver. There is water available along with poop bags and trash cans. To the east of the dog park is an old farm site with a mile loop trail that also has some pretty views and interesting history. My dogs are small 6mo chihuahuas and I am leery of most dog parks due to the confined spaces and aggressive dogs, but this dog park makes it so you can avoid people and dogs as you walk around the space. There were a lot of children at this park. Which is a responsibility that (I believe) parents should consider carefully and prepare for with intention. Interacting with strange dogs can be tricky, even for adults. Certainly, it's best to be educated in 'dog language'. I have a one year old, 90lb German Shepherd mix. I rescued him 6 months ago. Dempsey is a submissive animal that wouldn't allow himself to be reached for... or pet, and didn't wag his tail for our first 3 months together. We work daily on commands, manners, and socialization... but, (understandably) he still has a few things to learn. Recently, he's accepted people don't always equal abuse, and developed excitement for humans. Suddenly he's exuberant and affectionate. (Awesome right?) His worst bad manner? He LOVES to lick people's face in greeting. He's just discovered it, and I mean.... really, enthusiastically lick. Giant, German Shepherd sized, slimy, slobber dripping, full on tongue.... It's admittedly gross. It can be a lot... He's super into it. Children are at perfect face licking height for a large puppy. You see where this is going right? My puppy licked the face of a little girl at this park... and she screamed bloody murder in response. The girls mother was angry at me for my dogs lack of manners in greeting her child. A child which responded, by running frantically in circles squealing.... guaranteed way to further excite a puppy. However, My dog never jumped up on, scratched, or otherwise displayed threatening or inappropriate behavior...he licked her face. Enthusiastically, admittedly! I have three step children age 6,8 and 12 that adore Dempsey... In his experience little people are his first and favorite friends. They're always willing to throw the ball, play, and snuggle with him... what's not to love? He was super excited to see this little girl (a playmate in his mind) immediately upon entering the park. I could see the whole incident... It happened fast, and I arrived just as the woman corrected Dempsey by severely jerking his chain backwards (he sat) when she released him, he came to my call, and hid behind me. The woman proceeded to harshly scold me for "allowing my dog to jump on children. " First of all... If Dempsey had actually jumped ON the (4year old?) girl...she would not have stayed standing, or gone unscathed.... my puppy is large. 90 lbs and eye level with the kid. If he had so much as bumped into her energetically she would have been knocked down. Secondly, I don't 'allow' my dog to jump on anyone. Ever. I take the responsibility of owning a large animal seriously, and work diligently to correct undesirable behavior. Unfortunately... in a Dog Park he runs ahead of me, and I cant always catch every misbehavior immediately. I work on correcting Dempseys 'lick greeting'. A lot. It's gross and it drives me crazy. I must tell him "no lick" 187 times a day.... the only thing I say more is "off the counter" but he is after all, a puppy. My response to the woman was; "I never set my dog loose in kid parks.... for good reason. You should seriously reconsider setting your kid loose in a dog park." A dog deserves a place to let loose and be a dog! I was under the impression a DOG PARK was that place. I trust my animal around kids or I wouldn't have brought him into this park. None the less... Children at the dog park need to be prepared on what to expect. Coached on possible scenarios and responses... taught proper ways to interact with dogs. If that's too much... Maybe carried by the parent? Or... keep kids out of DOG parks. It's not safe. Some dogs ARENT socialized to kids. That's reality. Whether or not they should is a moot point when its too late and your child is injured. Some owners don't realize they need to socialize their animal to children. They assume it comes naturally, in the 'socialized to people' category. It doesn't. Dogs see kids as equals, and it can cause problems quickly. Aside from that, dangerous fights break out over toys... Some dogs snap if you touch their ears, or grab their tail. I've seen adults inadvertently knocked down by a game of chase... on multiple occasions. In a perfect world, all dogs would be properly socialized, and impeccably behaved... then again... so would all humans. It is dangerous to take a small child into a dog park. If you've looked up this park and you aren't sure about your dog around children.. like... really super sure..... you should scope it out before you go in, just my advice based on my few experiences. read more

This is a wonderful slice of country dog park-ing. Most of the locals seem to refer to this park as "Surry Ridge". I didn't even bother to use a direction finder but just followed the signs to Surry Ridge off I25 while going south. I will bet this place gets muddy and it's got SO MUCH ROOM that dogs seem to just act like they're on a long walk with no leash and random canine distractions. This is a GREAT place to practice your recalls, fellow dog owners! I watched this human chase his dog all around the park because it kept getting distracted by other dogs. Not so fun when you're trying to go home. I liked the rolling hills and views of I25. It made for an interesting juxtaposition of city vs. rural. If I visited more often I might get annoyed at the longish drive from the exit to the actual park but... it does make one feel like they're on a road trip, so all's good that ends with a tired puppy! read more

Located just a few minutes south of Ridgegate Parkway and I-25, you will will find the Glendale Open Space Dog Park. I am not sure at what point in recent years they renamed it from "Surrey Ridge Dog Park", but this has caused a fair amount of confusion among people calling it by the "old" versus "new" name. I believe the official renaming occurred when they moved the park a bit to the East, redid the fencing and parking area, and stuck up the big "Glendale" sign (which I somehow managed to ignore for a couple years). Anyway, this dog park at Glendale Farm is 17-acres in size. The dog park is adjacent to 1.6 miles of Glendale Trail (where you can also hike with your dogs, but they have to be on-leash). There are no fees to use this area. The dog park is relatively hilly, so you can actually work up a sweat and your dog can have terrain more challenging than a typical field. They have a few agility obstacle near the summit, for dogs that are so inclined. The place seems to have gotten much more popular over the recent years. To agree with a couple of the other Yelpers, there are a lot more children here than their used to be. Most of the kids are reasonably well behaved, but some could stand to be reminded that while there are tons of kid parks across the Denver metro area, there are not that many dog parks. And, the behavior here should be more "dog-oriented" and less "kiddie playground". The park can get icy in the winter (no surprise), and the shaded areas, where the snow is slow to melt, can get rather muddy. All in all, this is a nice place to take your dogs. read more

I don't have a dog, so when my friend asks me to dog sit... I'll eagerly agree. He's super smart and also needs quite a bit of activity every day. I also live in a high rise, so I have to be pretty pro-active to get him the exercise he needs. This park is probably pretty close to his version of heaven. He can race the cars driving on the highway, he can play with other dogs, he can run run run. The enclosed dog park has a few agility training obstacles, poop bags, and some bowls for water (bring your own water). HUGE ENCLOSED SPACE. Then, after you've tired out your pup a bit, you can take them for a hike out back! It's perfect. I wish this spot were closer to my house. read more

Ever since our hearts were broken by Westminster Dog Park (Rocky Flats, plutonium... as brilliant as the park is, no thanks.), we've struggled to find a replacement. There are other dog parks, sure, but nothing comes close to 400+ acres of hills, creeks, and and big trees. Enter Glendale Open Space / Surrey Ridge Dog Park! Through a game of telephone (my friend's friend told her, and she told me), we were fortunate enough to find out about it (or remember* -- turns out I had it bookmarked on Yelp from eons ago). Long story short, this place rocks, and my pup had a blast running around and exploring. There is also a hiking trail behind the park, however, you have to enter it from the parking lot, as the whole park is separated by a 5ft wire fence. We learned that from another person in the park, so maybe we'll do that next. The drive is simple, although it's one that tests you - you look on your map, it shows you are on track, but it's a decent way from I-25, so you begin to question whether you're visiting Old McDonald or actually going the right way. Luckily, you can't miss the parking lot and big sign at the entrance. There are also a couple porter potties, so you can set yourself up for a successful hike! 4 stars because it can get extremely packed (before noon on the weekend was a madhouse by the entrance) and that might not be suitable for dogs who like to play but don't deal well with 25 dogs ganging up on them at once (I saw everything from toddlers to babies in strollers, super yappy microscopic dogs to Great Danes). I wish there was another entrance, so you could get to the real "open space" without having to pass this chaotic test. The day we went was spectacular, so I certainly don't blame everyone for coming. I am sure other days/times are better! read more

This is a good easy to find and access free dog park. We were frequent goers of Cherry creek State off-leash Park, but you needed a park pass or you were charged $13 each time you came in. Now that we live in LT this is our go to dog park. It's usually pretty busy but we have always have found parking at the convenient lot adjacent to the park. There are a few obstacles which are fun to try with your dog. The paths are dirt (no pavement) so no good for strollers or people using walkers/wheelchairs. read more

Well, now I see why Yelp wouldn't let me check in to this park, despite standing right underneath the sign! It is not, in fact, located in Arvada as the Yelp map would have you believe. I haven't been here in over a year, and the park is no longer accessible directly off Surrey Ridge Rd off I-25 anymore. You either exit at Ridgegate Parkway and head east to follow the signs to "Surrey Ridge" or head to the next exit south (Castle Pines Parkway, maybe?) and backtrack to the north. This is a great park to take your furry friends out for some fun. It's a whopping 17 acres in size (which I think includes the trail areas outside of the fence), and a nice addition since my last visit includes an agility course at the top of the hill. If you can't quite keep up with Fido, no worries - there are tons of benches scattered throughout. There are two double-gated entrances from the parking area, which is nice so everyone doesn't end up crammed into one spot to get in and out. Poop bags are provided, however I only saw boxes for them down near the entrance gates. I believe that's where the only trash cans were located too. That's kind of unfortunate, because several people apparently think it's perfectly acceptable to bag the poo and leave it where found. Not cool, peeps! There appeared to be a few community water bowls, but I didn't see any sort of water fountain so I guess people were just bringing their own. If your Fido has sensitive paws, you may want to keep an eye on him/her - I do recall seeing a bunch of cactus scattered throughout last year, and I think my friend's pooch my have hurt her paw. There's also a 1.7-mile path to hike after playing in the park, but beware - there are snakes in the area! read more

Fun place for exercise with the pup! What a great area for a dog run, this fenced in 17 - acre of land is perfect to spend time with your dog. It is great for socializing or just keeping to yourself. Have met many different kinds of people and pups who are all very nice, some like to socialize their dog and some are just there for the work out. Our favorite spot is up the hill a bit where there is an obstacle course were you can have fun and train your dog to jump, go under, go through go over and go up! Great work out for the pup. Right outside the park there are some trails you can hike but have to keep your dog on a leash. There is also a water pump next to water bowls you can fill up for the pup. Some things to keep in mind, It can get very muddy and slippery after the rainy days. There is really not a lot of shaded spots to hang out under so bring your sunscreen on those hot days! read more

My dog loves this place, so by law, we have to love it, too! 5 stars for the place 3-4 for the other people. The park is HUGE and completely fenced in! It's not too big to where you get scared when your pup runs behind a bush or over a hill and you lose sight of them for a minute. There's also a nice obstacle course at the top of a hill and a massive 'pond'/mud hole that my dog enjoys all too much. The people that frequent this place are usually pretty great with a few exceptions of people not paying attention to their dogs. read more

Google maps didn't give very clear directions but we found easily enough. This was the perfect place for our dogs! Tons of space to run and play, while being beautiful and inviting. There are plenty of walking trails and lots of grass. Our girls had fun with the obstacles that are set up there. Definitely going back soon! read more

My dog can't get enough of this park! It is so HUGE which lets him run around to his heart's content! They have a fenced in "dog park" area and then a trail system through another gate in the parking lot which we haven't tried yet but hope to try soon! The dog park isn't so big that you have to worry about loosing track of your dog if they go running over a hill without you but is still more than enough space for them to run all over. In my experience the park is either packed or there's only 1-2 other people there (all depends on when you go). I would recommend bringing your dog when they have a good grasp of the "come" command though because chasing them all over the park when it's time to go home isn't very fun (we learned the hard way). We've never had a bad experience with another dog or owner in our time coming out there and Oakley loves to run and play with all the other dogs when he is out there! It's a little out of our way but is 100% worth the drive! We will keep coming back to over and over again! read more

We stumbled across this dog park recently and what a great find! As others have mentioned, it is a large, fenced park with additional hiking trails outside of the fenced area for on leash hiking. Even when the park is busy, it is large enough to allow the dogs to spread out and not feel overly crowded. I'm not sure if we've just been there on good days or what, but I was especially surprised at the lack of dog poop around the park. It seems like every other dog park around town has quite a bit of poop that doesn't get picked up - not the case here. There are a few benches around the park and some agility equipment located on the top of the hill. We were surprised to see a water spigot and it was still on (in October) - I'm not sure when/if it is turned of for the winter. Our dogs have really enjoyed this park so far and it is easily accessible off of I-25. There are several bag stations and trash cans at the entrance to the dog park, but no bags or trash cans anywhere else in the park. read more

I really enjoy taking my dog here, and he really enjoys it too! It's a nice place to take your dog for a walk and let them off leash. It's fenced in and is much like a dog park, except everyone pretty much just walks the trails and their dogs follow. I like it because it's a great way for my dog and I to get exercise and allow him freedom off the leach and socialize all at the same time. The only down side is, I live in Aurora, so it's quite a drive for me. read more

This is a great dog park. Plenty of open space and beautiful! There is no separation of dog weight (some parks provide separate areas for dogs 25 pounds and less) but the dogs have plenty of room to run! There is a small agility course on top of the hill that was set up by the Boy Scouts and nice trails to walk both inside the fenced dog park and outside. We find it quicker to take the Castle Pines Parkway Exit and then follow the frontage road North. read more

I love this dog park. We call it "Doggie Heaven". :) My pack loves all the space and I love that I get to exercise too! It is not the typical dog park where all the dogs are in one place and just standing around. This park has a trail you and your dogs can walk (fully fenced) and meet different dogs and owners along the way. The majority of the folks that visit this park are responsible dog owners, but you do run into the occasional bad owner (out of control dog - oblivious owner). I agree with a previous poster that you should not bring small children to this park. It is a DOG park and the dogs are running free so YES a dog is going to come up to your child and investigate (I have a Boston terrier and he just cannot help but lick children s faces). read more
