If you're from out of town I'd recommend white bank park for restrooms and some water and river access.

I say that because there is ZERO shade or coverage on the playground. All of the play equipment was too hot to utilize and there was no working water fountain or restroom. On a cooler day my review might have been more charitable, maybe even a 3 star because we would have actually played on the playground. Instead we sort of kicked some mulch around and burned our bottoms swinging on the swings for a few minutes before leaving. Since we were in a roadtrip and just passing through we couldn't be too choosey. I will say that the paved walking path along the perimeter was decent and the dog was a fan. There were a few picnic tables under some big shade trees and the temp felt 10 degrees cooler.

Our kid had fun playing on the playground, which featured two structures (one for older kids, one for younger kids), a swing set, a short climbing wall and a tire swing. I liked the tire swing, it was painted green and yellow (PG colors!) and had any potentially sharp edges smoothed out. The whole area has tall pine trees throughout. Overall, the playground was a good place to spend a little time and let the kid run around a bit; I would go here again.

The only people there were adults randomly parked in cars scattered around. Minutes after we arrived a car pulled up, stinking like weed. They have a ton of life guard watching your every move but you know it's for a good reason ;) They even have two diving boards on the deep side of the pool. Keep in mind, you cannot use any inflatable items in the big pool. I think the floaties are allowed in the baby pool only.

They have a pavilion with a grill available to have hotdogs and hamburgers with the friends and family. They have two basketball courts available. If you're looking to play tennis, they have great courts available with high fences to keep the balls within the court. If you have a baseball or football team, they have baseball and football fields available. They look like they are well maintained and offer great spots tor team sports. There are no playgrounds or picnic facilities here. Lots of old trees and shade. Much history happened here. In 1812 The Petersburg Volunteers camped on the site before leaving for the Canadian border, and in 1824 General Lafayette was greeted with much fanfare. At the beginning of the Civil War volunteers enlisted for service in the Confederate army, and then at the end of the war, a hospital was erected on the site during the siege of Petersburg. There is street parking (no meters) on three sides of the park. Be aware of residentially-challenged in the park if that is something that concerns you.
