Since we flew in, we didn't have space to bring much equipment, so I called a few times asking questions about di#erent things. Every time I called, I spoke to someone new and they were all very nice and knowledgeable. The day of diving went very smooth from check-in to loading everything on the boat. You check into the shop and then drive across the street to the dock to drop off your equipment and park. Ben, the mate was helpful, funny, and knew right where to put us on the boat and who to pair us with. We did a reef dive for the first one and it was full of fish and different coral. The second dive was a wreck and really cool. We got to see the goliath grouper that stays in the wheelhouse and tons of different fish. The visibility was very good at both places. Nancy, the captain, was excellent. She knew so much about the area and the different dive sites and knew right where to drop the anchor and then the divers. We couldn't have asked for a better trip.

Since we've rented boats here before, we appreciated that the safety briefing was shortened and focused on the essentials rather than making us sit through the entire presentation again. That said, it would have been helpful to clearly remind returning customers about the exact navigation boundaries and where boating is not permitted. Our 25ft pontoon boat was clean and comfortable, with plenty of space for a relaxing day around Destin Harbor and Crab Island. However, part of the bimini top was torn and flapped loudly in the wind throughout the day. The Bluetooth radio also didn't work. We've experienced that on previous rentals as well, so perhaps it is intentionally disabled, but if that's the case it would be good to communicate that upfront. The biggest disappointment was the pricing transparency. The advertised rental price looks attractive, but then a 4% "Village Fee" and an additional 2.5% "Operational Cost Fee" are added before sales tax. An operational cost fee feels particularly difficult to justify, as operational costs should already be included in the advertised price. By the time all fees and taxes are added, a rental advertised at $345 ends up costing about $427. That leaves customers feeling misled and takes away from an otherwise enjoyable experience. Overall, we had a great day on the water and the staff was professional and pleasant. Improving the condition of some equipment and being more transparent about the true rental cost would make the experience even better.

Lastly, David and Tristan somehow summoned the dolphins and we ended the parasailing trip with an additional tour around a pod of dolphins with a baby dolphin. He was friendly and gave direct and honest feedback, avoiding any fluff. For my particular charter, we had a group (of 3) cancel so it was only myself and another diver. I really appreciate him keeping the charter that day, as I know it can be challenging both financially and logistically. It was the first charter of the year, so he kicked it off with a good omen and was able to take us to two great locations. Both Capt Dan and Instructor Gary were there to help in any way you really needed, especially handing me my lionfish gear. I've been to many places and can say I certainly made the correct decision in booking with Off Duty Dive Charters. When I come back to Destin, I will absolutely be booking with Capt Dan again! We had little children in our party so ended up heading back early. The company is very reasonable and offered us to reschedule for another day or get partial refund which shows they really care about your experience. Rob was our dock helper who was so helpful and patient with our group and Lacy who I spoke to on the phone was very understanding and easy to work with. I highly recommend using them should you need to rent a boat!

Management was polite at the time and offered me a 50% discount on my next rental. When I went to book that rental, the woman on the phone immediately told me they "would never" offer 50% off and that the most they could do was $25 off. She was condescending, repeatedly asking for "proof" while scoffing at me, hinting that I was lying or trying to scam them. She even told me there were no female managers and that I must be "making it up," despite the fact I had spoken to a female manager before. Fortunately, I still had that manager's personal number from the previous incident and contacted her directly--she confirmed the discount and resolved the issue. However, the way I was spoken to over the phone was unprofessional, dismissive, and downright insulting. After years of being a loyal customer, I won't be returning.

In fact one of my mask I gave to the dive boat in Costa Rica because it didn't fit. She explained each type of snorkels ( who knew there were different types?) and how they worked and she fitted me for my mask. It was a great experience.
