It has been a bucket list item of mine for some time to learn to scuba dive. This year I decided to make it happen, I called a couple of weeks in advance of our vacation to Destin and talked to Marianne at Scuba Tech She was most helpful and friendly and managed to work around to get me into the last class of the season. Then I met my instructor Iina. She has experience and dives around the globe literally hundreds of dives. This is the kind of person I want teaching me to dive. Once we had completed enough of the class to take in our first to open water dives we headed to Dustin harbor and boarded the Mongoose. Where I met Captain and deckhand again great very nice people very knowledgeable and willing to teach. I got my open water dive license. And now I can honestly say that the underwater,high-def pictures you see on your television aren't even close to the experience of being there. My husband and I have our advanced open water certifcation and we booked a 2 tank trip with ScubaTech. Since we flew in, we didn't have space to bring much equipment, so I called a few times asking questions about di#erent things. Every time I called, I spoke to someone new and they were all very nice and knowledgeable. The day of diving went very smooth from check-in to loading everything on the boat. You check into the shop and then drive across the street to the dock to drop off your equipment and park. Ben, the mate was helpful, funny, and knew right where to put us on the boat and who to pair us with. We did a reef dive for the first one and it was full of fish and different coral. The second dive was a wreck and really cool. We got to see the goliath grouper that stays in the wheelhouse and tons of different fish. The visibility was very good at both places. Nancy, the captain, was excellent. She knew so much about the area and the different dive sites and knew right where to drop the anchor and then the divers. I'm not one to write reviews, but waking up after completing my open water dive certification, all I could think about is how amazing my experience was and that I need to share this with anyone looking to get certified. Unfortunately, I must start with the fact that my mom and I had a less than stellar experience during our initial pool training with a less than adequate dive shop near my home town, Coral Reef Dive Shop. After this dive shop cancelled our open water dive, unbeknownst to me, I had to scramble to find a shop that would accept a referral. I was recommended to Scuba Tech from a friend who is a master diver, has been to Scuba Tech multiple times and had always raved about their service and their attention to student divers. I spoke with John who was extremely friendly and offered to get another instructor to come in and help out with our training. Since our skills were lacking due to improper training our stellar instructor, Matt "SeaBear" Silverman, took extra time to make sure my mom and I were comfortable and had all of our skills down. I cannot thank Matt enough for everything he did to ease our anxiety (even cracking a few jokes to keep things light while learning all the important skills we will need for our future dives! ) Thank you so much Scuba Tech for employing such amazing instructors who clearly love their jobs and love teaching new divers everything they know! My family came to Destin for our yearly beach vacation and finally decided to do a snorkel excursion. I have to say Captain Jim & his 1st Mate Jimmy of the Mongoose did an exceptional job of entertaining us and taking us to the good locations to see a lot of underwater beauty. This is a great place if your top priority is getting certified. Not so great of you care about having fun or learning anything. I am a certified diver with 40+ dives. I was there with my family and my sister and her kids. The goal was to get my son and my niece and nephew certified. The first day the weather was questionable and I told them at least 3 times that safety was the most important and we had more time in town if we needed to reschedule. My sister told them the same. They put us in the water with 10 foot vis and it quickly dropped to 6 feet. Dive was called off. We did no skills that day but it was counted as our first dive. Lasted 20 mins. Went back next day to do the next 3 dives. They only brought 2 tanks for each of us. They told us it was planned but I heard them talking on the side about where the rest of the tanks were. We had not left yet and the marina was a across the street from the shop. They did not get more. We went 3 dives with 2 tanks. As a customer service note we showed up at 11 for our dive and we got done at 3pm.... We did a 20 min dive. They were behind schedule not us. They sent us to the dock to get the boat and we waited in the 90 temps with no shade or water for over 30 mins. The next day we showed, up on time, and 3 different people told us to hurry up the boat was waiting. They are a certificate mill. If you doubt that all all, one of our people dropped out for medical reasons. Never stepped foot in the building, never put on a wet suit and he got an email congratulating him for getting certified just like my son who did the dives. If your goal is to get certified go here. You may not even have to get wet. If you want training go somewhere else. read more

Not only have I brought there my equipment for service and told them I was new in the area and looking for a new dive shop- and they never tried to offer me diving - I went diving and the battery ( I asked them to replace ) on my integrated air was showing low on my next dive . Paid $213.- and my battery was low, my reg was still sandy .. it still tasted like salt when I went on my first dive with it. I wonder now if it was serviced at all! Never again! He was not only fun to spend time with but explained clearly what I needed to know, demo'd each move and was patient in exactly the right way (and insistent when he needed to be as well). I'm not only thrilled to have my certificate, but glad I got it with such a great instructor. Marianne set my boyfriend, Dennis, and I up smoothly and easily as well. Just went on a chartered dive trip Scuba Tech this morning, and wanted to post a review of how great a crew and set up that they had. I rented all of my gear, and it was excellent equipment kept in really good shape (even the wetsuit was clean, and fitted well). Dive masters on the trip, Greg and Tim, were personable and friendly and made sure to take care of everyone, not just the people that they were assigned to. I really appreciated their helpful hints and insider tips. The dive boat was fast and clean, and we didn't waste any unnecessary time with getting to the sites. Some of the people on the charter started getting a little seasick (the swells were a little rough) and I was really impressed with how out of their way the crew went towards trying to make them feel better. This was my first time diving in the Gulf and it was a great intro experience; I will definitely use this company when I'm back in town next read more

Went on a 2 dives with these guys in one week. Price is around $100 if you don't need to rent anything. Rental rates are reasonable. Very impressed with these guys. Both trips our deckhand Greg did a great job making sure we had everything we needed. Was really impressed on the second dive day when the boat got a message that another dive boat had a lost diver. The crew went to work immediately getting the dive masters on board ready to get in the water to assist with the search. As soon as we got to the site that the diver was missing at the Dive Masters were some of the first in the water. When the Coast Guard showed up Greg and the rest of the crew were on the spot with assisting them in getting some of the gear on board the Coast Guard divers needed to get as many people in the water as quickly as possible. very impressed with the professionalism and dedication of these dive professionals. Came away with the feeling that they would go to any lengths to make sure their customers were safe. Had a great time even though vis was only about 5 feet on the last day - still enjoyed the dive and would highly recommend these guys. I will definitely be diving with them next year when we return to Destin. read more

I received my dive certification in 2006 through Scuba Tech. I have taken several international dive trips organized by this shop as well as completing local dives. The staff are very experienced and always friendly. They freely share their knowledge of the local area and have a good selection of gear available for purchase or rent. I have not used any other dive shops in area for a good reason....if it ain't broke, don't fix it! I recently took a visiting friend to the shop for a Discovery Scuba experience. Gregory Christie was the instructor/dive master for our trip. My friend had the usual "first timer jitters", but due to Greg's patience and outstanding ability to deal with people, my friend was able to calm down, complete the skills portion of the class successfully, and enjoy a wonderful day diving at the jetties safely and with confidence. I highly recommend this dive shop to anyone interested in diving/snorkeling in the Destin area. read more

The shop is conveniently located on the main drag in Destin (highway 98). However this real estate comes at a cost in the form of gear prices which are higher compared to the shops in the surrounding area. However the gear selection is good with many extras and accessories readily available. They have a excellent PACKAGE section which has over 10 scuba gear packages ready to buy. Overall the shop is organized and the staff is knowledgeable on the products and dives in the surrounding area. The boat service was a bit pricey at $100 per person w/tanks for two dives (4 HRS). But the crew made the trip enjoyable. Paying the extra $25 per person for a dive master was unnecessary. As long as you or the divers your are diving with can follow an anchor line down to the bottom safely you can omit this extra service. They did nothing in the form of navigation, extra knowledge or training in our experience. read more
