Ours came with fresh fruit and had some great textures. Don't expect that fake or processed fruit here. The bakery selection is extensive with over 20 items to choose from. The current offer is order 10 different items and get 1 free. We ordered 30 items. Everything from scallion buns, taro bun, pork bun, hot dog bun, pork floss bun, butter filled buns and egg tarts. In todays current market, I cant find a place that has baked goods for this low. The ladies were so sweet to make sure everything was packaged correctly and recommended some goodies as well. I always come here when I'm in town. They are located in a plaza. I've been coming here for years now. When I first started coming here, they had these fruit cake slices that I liked to get. It was very yummy. I didn't see it this time so they were probably sold out. They had a lot of roll cakes and different flavors. I was glad to get the pandan one since I love pandan cake. Ok let me start by saying I LOOOVVEEE me some Asian bakery goods!! That is like my calling!!! So when I Yelped bakeries in the vicinity of my work and came across this oh I was on that so quick! In the car and zoom zoom. It is located right off Waters onto Armenia in a small Asian type plaza. They had advertised boba tea but I was disappointed that they no longer have it. The staff member was extremely sweet, described the goods to us for the ones we were not familiar with. They seemed to be out of a lot or just a limited selection. I knew as soon as I saw the egg tart that was all mine. So I got that and the almond cookie and 2 of the coconut milk custard buns. The egg tart was good, eggy and a slight sweetness with the crust being flaky. Yum. The almond cookie also good. Not overly sweet and not hard but not soft. Had the right amount of crispness. The custard buns were just ok. The bread was soft but the custard was just different from what I've had and used to. Will I be back? Possibly. To definitely try other things. It's so cheap too. Satisfies my Asian baked good needs, but I think we came at a time when there wasn't a huge selection. Looking at other people's pictures, I think we just happened to come when they didn't have a lot of variety. We were there at 3 p.m. on a Sunday, which I will admit isn't prime eating time, but since they are open till much later I thought they would stay pretty stocked. They were out of egg tarts, which I read was a hot commodity. We ended up getting a matcha mousse, pork bun, cream bun, milk cream bun, and a buttermilk cream bun. I don't eat pork, so I didn't try that, but I tried everything else. I liked everything enough, but I've been to bakeries that have more variety and taste better. I felt like a majority of the options was the same bread just different filling. However, after seeing other pics I think they were just out of a lot. The matcha mousse had a good matcha flavor. It was more of a cake though. Honestly, I would have liked just the top mousse part and done without the crust! A quiet shop but they have really great items. From bakery bread, Chinese cake, desserts, and boba tea, there's something here for everyone. I grew up eating chinese bakery so I wanted to find one when I visited Tampa. It was easy to get here and there's plenty of parking in the plaza. What appealed to me the most was their price point and deal. Each item is about $1.20-$1.80 and if you buy 5 you get 1 free! Honestly can't beat that. When I wrote the previous review, the new bakery located on Fowler has was not open yet, but I still recommend the egg tarts from Fortune Star. I prefer them much more. Fortune Star's other baked goods are a little more traditional to Asian bakeries, so for me, it tastes like home. If you go to any other Asian bakeries in , you might see a lot of similar goods in the stores. I've also been able to try their Taiwanese cake from here, which I have to say, is really good. For anyone who isn't familiar with a Taiwanese cake, they are spongier, creamier, and excessively less sweeter than a traditional American cake. They are made with an emphasis on fruit, so I would highly recommend these cakes to try out! Overall, even though the new bakery on Fowler is closer to me, I'll still take the time to drive over here to get those delicious egg tarts. read more

Our go to place for birthday cakes. The staff is wonderful and very accommodating, they'll even let us place an order over the phone for same day pick up (I do recommend giving them more time though); they will allow requests for a blank slate cake so we can decorate it ourselves (with fresh flowers or whatever theme we're going for). We've gotten over a dozen birthday cakes (including one wedding cake) from this place over the years, and I gottah say, the cakes have always been yummy, but they have been upping their cake decorating skills and I love it. We'll normally get the fresh strawberry with regular sponge vanilla cake or my current favorite, the green melon with taro filling. It's in a plaza surrounded by other restaurants and stores. There are plenty of parking spaces available. The bakery had some booths available but there was no one there when I arrived. The staff weren't the best at explaining things and rushed me to make a decision. I ordered couple of things, slice of fruit cake, sausage and cheese bun, pineapple bun and custard bun. Sausage and cheese were our favorite. Sweet bun with glazed Chinese sausages, melted cheese and spring onions. Very very good!! Fruit cake was decent, very light. Thin layer of fruit cocktail in the middle, wished it was regular fruits. Custard and pineapple bun was our least favorite. Custard was so inedible I couldn't keep it down. It tasted grimy and had a horrible taste. Pineapple bun wasn't pineapply. No pineapple taste, no filling, no taste. Disappointed! Overall, I had such high hopes but it wasn't good. I love me some Asian bakery goodies. There's a bakery I go back to in Gainesville that have some pretty great options, but my all-time favorite is the pineapple bun. So you better believe I got super excited when I found this little gem. This Asian bakery is set in an Asian influenced shopping plaza with a seafood restaurant and food market neighboring each other. So I was excited to be exposed to some truly authentic Asian bakery cuisine. Family owned, I was shocked to see how ridiculously inexpensive the goodies were. The sweetness is really tone down compared to Latin bakery. Fortune Star is famous fruit sponge cake. It is definitely different than traditional sponge cake. It is fluffy and very lightly sweet. In between the cake layer is the fruit filling. Cool whip topping with very nice and beautiful design. The basic 10" sponge cake is $25. Need minimum one day before order. Average they make 20 cake a day. So call early to order. The different filling such taro filling is extra. Other than their famous cake. They sell cut off pieces if you like to try. We like the pork buns, pineapple buns, and pork floss buns. We'll choose tarts and other cookies here and there, but we eat buns for breakfast and get through them pretty fast. Try their coffee swiss roll - lightly sweet and very fluffy. This is the cheapest bakery - we're talking $1.20 vs 1.75 at other places. Add up when you order by the dozen! I wasn't a fan of the red bean buns but everything else was delicious. The staff members are always so kind and helpful. On this visit, they were able to give me info on storage so I could bring these bakes to a party a few days later. I was able to keep the egg tarts in the fridge and bake them just before the party. Our second stop on our bakery tour was Fortune Star Oriental Bakery. This one was not on our radar originally, but really was a stand out. The steam buns were phenomenal. We went with a pork bun, milk custard bun, and an egg custard. I also enjoyed a Hong Kong black tea with milk. The two steam buns were amazing. We both agreed we would love to return for more of these and to sample other items. The counter service was very friendly and she helped us understand what was offered if we had any questions. Solid, decent Asian baked goods. They have a nice assortment of sweet and savory pastries as well as sponge cakes and crepe cakes. If you shop at MD Oriental Market, you'll see that the pastries they have in the back of the store carries desserts and buns from Fortune Star. The sweet pastries are a lot less sweet compared to other bakeries which is a nice change from regular grocery store desserts. The cakes here are light and fluffy and you can get different flavors that you wouldn't find in a non-Asian bakery. The savory pastries are also really delicious. My favorite is the crispy pork bun which is like a puff pastry filled with delicious roast pork filling. I drove 45 mins to this shop base on review. Here's my review on this bakery. Service was excellent. They were able to accommodate my pick up time. However, the cake was not as good as I expect. The fruit inside was can fruit (pinapple, papaya) not the fresh one. There was no whip cream between the fruit and cake that as soon as I cut it the fruit came apart. Not as good as some of the Chinese style bakeries in Orlando, but this is the only one that I can find in Tampa. So, you will find me here once every weekend. It is conveniently located in the same plaza as Din Ho Market and China Yuan, right around the corner from Yummy House and Got Tea on Waters. Everything is baked on premises and they also package and ship to local markets. Also, most items are under $2.00 for individual sized buns and confections. It would be something that you could eat for dessert or for breakfast. The case in the back has cheesecake slices and creamy items. Then, the main case is filled with bun or roll style cake or bread items. The top of the case always has Chinese style sliced loafs of breads of the sweet variety, to make toast. If you are a sweet bean, taro, or coconut fiend like me, then this is definitely the place for you. Their Coconut Powder bun is amazing and so is their Taro Roll. The items can keep up to 3 days and still seem fresh if wrapped tightly in plastic wrap and stored in the fridge, then heated in the toaster oven or microwave (toaster preferred). You will not find nutritional info on any of these products, even the pre-packed ones: so just suspect that it is fattening, deal with it, and move on. Don't be expecting the best of service. The counter service expects you to know exactly what you want as soon as you enter the shop and don't like to wait for you to make up your mind. I was involved in the UYE dim sum challenge that crashed this place in search of sweets. The girl working didn't expect a hoard of people coming in and was unprepared for us. The case had all kinds of fun things in it - cakes and buns and puff pastry type things. No bubble tea though. That's not a huge loss for me because the texture isn't my cup of tea (harharhar!), but it sounded like some other people in the group were disappointed. I ended up taking a few different things home with me - a custard bun, a pineapple bun, and an apple pie (which was more like an apple puff pastry). The buns really remind me of brioche and are deliciously bready without being super sweet. I really liked the custard one the most out of my entire sampling. Best part yet? They're all dirt cheap. Around a buck for most things, though some are more. I think I paid about $4 for all mine. Had some of them for dessert once my stomach made room and some for breakfast and a snack the following day.
