I was shocked to see a really negative review on Dr. Klenofsky when I was using Yelp to pull up the location for a new neighbor who was looking for a veterinarian, which which in turn prompted this review. We started taking our dogs to Dr. K in 1983, when I first moved to St. Louis after college, so I wanted to address this with my own first hand experience. Dr. K was a young man then, as was I, and the knowledge, intelligence, and compassion were obvious from the start. I was absolutely shocked by the things that were written in this negative review. Dr. K does have state of the art equipment, is amazingly accurate with his diagnoses, and is so well thought of by so many people. Also, don't judge a book by it's cover; Forum Vet is in a 45 year old shopping center, so, he can't very well change that, nor would any of us who have been taking our pets to him for decades want him to, or expect him to. Here's a little story. We were at dinner one night with a fairly large group at the Charcoal House on Manchester when the subject of our pets came up, as well as health issues, who had which Veterinarian, etc. As it turned out everyone at the table was using Dr. K, and there were so many stories about how their pets lives were literally saved by Dr. K's accurate diagnosis's and proper treatment. Additionally , Dr. K 's wife runs the office and she is incredibly compassionate and always does the right thing. She also does everything in her power to make sure that you're seen by Dr. K when your pet needs care. Also, if you notice, when you get his card, it has his home number on it. He told us to never call an emergency vet because he will answer the phone. We had an incident years ago when our dog was given some ibuprofen. A quick check on the internet said that it was lethal. We called an "Emergency Vet" who told us to give our dog hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting which was entirely unnecessary and just caused our dog more distress. I got a thorough explanation from Dr. K why inducing vomiting was the wrong move. With regard to the pricing at Forum Vet; it's not out of line by any means. Also, what hasn't gone up; over the past few years especially. When I'm looking for medical advice and care, I damned sure don't try to find the cheapest physician for myself or my pets. Rest assured that when you take your beloved pet to Dr. Klenofsky at Forum Vet, your pet is in the best of hands, with a Veterinarian who loves what he does, and he told me the other day that he doesn't see himself ever retiring as long as he's able to provide excellent care for his patients. Sorry for the rant, but the record needed to be set straight. My 8 year old chocolate lab Tootsie has suffered from skin allergies for 6 years. She licked her paws until they were raw with sores, drug her behind on the floor yuck, shook her ears silly, scratched constantly and rub up against the furniture. Tootsie was one smelly dog from yeast infections on her neck and every crevice you can imagine. I had tried everything from special foods, allergy free shampoo/detergent, $100 per month Apequel pills then $200 per Citopoint shots. Everything and anything at any cost to relieve her suffering but nothing worked. Less than a month ago someone referred me to Dr. Klenofsky. He and his wife Gail diagnosed Tootsie with having food and skin allergies. They prescribed medicine and non allergenic food/treats to treat her internally. In addition, medicated shampoo to treat her externally by constant bathing and thoroughly drying her afterward. Their prescribed treatment was a success. The hair has grown back on all of her paws, she has a beautiful shiny coat and can rest peacefully without itching. My only regret is not finding out about Dr. Klenofsky sooner. read more

If I could give Dr.K 100 stars I genuinely would! I spent thousands and thousands of dollars in vet bills for our cat, he has chin acne & chronic ear infections. The vet had no idea what they were dealing with, but continued leaving me to spend so much money with the problem not being solved. 1 appointment, only ONE Dr.K fixed both problems, my cat no longer has chin acne, nor ear infections. I'm sure Dr. K is a knowledgeable veterinarian however lately I have seen a change in his care that appears to be influenced by how much money it will make him. I have a two year old cat that I took to Dr. K for over a year. I always thought my bill (which was never itemized) was a little pricey but figured that all vets were expensive. When my cat started developing bald spots from itching I took him in and Dr. K examined him for what felt like one minute, declared my cat had allergies and needed a hypoallergenic diet indefinitely. There was no discussion on alternative diagnoses like anxiety, seasonal allergies vs. food allergies, or fleas. Dr. K then said that the food can only be bought through his clinic and would be about $60/month. I had an older cat I brought to Dr. K years ago that he said also required special food but since she was already 13 I was more receptive that an old, sick cat might need special care for her last few months. But with a 2 year old cat I had a hard time facing years and years of expensive, prescription food. There was no discussion of steroid injections, topical creams, or any alternatives. Dr. K was insistent that food would be the only fix. Side note - the vet tech is amazing. Even though Dr. K brushed our questions off she was thorough and reassured us that if the food didn't work we could bring it back for a refund. So we left with 2 bags of food and a $200 bill. I didn't start the food however because something didn't sit right. I ended up seeing a different vet in the KC area (I recently moved for school/work) and the experience was night and day. Long story short - a vet spent 45 minutes with my cat examining him and discussing at least 10 different treatment options before we decided that a steroid injection would be a good thing to try. My cat has since stopped itching, the hair is growing back, and it only cost $35 for the shot and $60 for the exam. Literally HALF the price of Forum plus no need to keep returning to purchase food every single month. I would strongly consider looking elsewhere so that you can be confident that the services you pay for are necessary. I have other stories I could share about Dr. K from my last cat, too. This is an ongoing problem and unfortunately it has taken me this long to figure it out. Save yourself the time and money and seek out another veterinarian. read more

My puppy had a busted nail and it was bleeding so I wanted to make an appointment to make sure the break wasn't too deep where it needed to be bandaged. I called and asked if they had any appointments for the next 48 hours. The woman (I believe it was the vet) said that she there wasn't an opening now, but could let me know before she leaves at the end of the day if anyone had cancelled or rescheduled their appointment. I thought that was very nice of her to consider my appointment if there was an opening. She called me prior to her leaving for the day (she had said on the phone that she stayed after closing to give me a call and confirm upcoming appointments) and said that I could come in tomorrow afternoon for my dog. I made the appointment (assumed I was the absolutely last person to get this slot since it was past closing time and she told me there was a last minute opening). The day of the appointment, I had a real emergency. I was so frantic that afternoon that my first thought wasn't even about cancelling the vet appointment. (It was an emergency) I had major concerns that took priority and my first thought was if things in my personal life was going to be okay (This was an actual emergency). Around later that day when things cleared up, and I wasn't so frantic with worry, I saw that the vet left me a voicemail. She was pretty rude on the phone. I understand that I cancelled without notice, I know that is probably frustrating on their end, but she made me feel horrible for not showing up. Told me that there were very sick dogs that were needed to be seen and could have had my slot (even though she knew my dog's case wasn't extremely serious and gave me the appointment at the end of the day). I called the vet clinic and explained that I had an emergency and I apologize for not showing up. She didn't seem to be empathetic, just said "well call us next time". I was going to be a new patient there and that's the response I got. I won't be bringing my animals there because of that lack of empathy and sincerity. I understand that I missed an appointment and I apologized and explained but to not even hear the vet be slightly empathetic to my situation or offer to reschedule was rude. I know that they may get that as an excuse for people who forget, but when it's a real situation, it's very rude to not have any empathy and to almost attempt to make someone feel bad (via voicemail) when they're already down just shows me that it's not a place I would want to take my fur babies to. read more

We stumbled across this practice over 10 years ago and have since become die hard fans. Dr K and his entire staff are the most wonderful, caring down-to-earth people. His expertise/experience in diagnosing the root cause for whatever is ailing a pet is unsurpassed. He has seen it all. Dr K was immediately available to us for two very stressful pet emergencies (of course - late at night on holiday weekends - $%&*#). Most recently, with the Covid pandemic, they insist on taking the utmost precaution to prevent potential virus transmission between clients, staff, and pets. Oh, my goodness ... Dr. K is a literal lifesaver. He has been with my dog through blood, vomit, and feces. He is very knowledgeable and a calming presence. Kibble was introduced because humans needed all of their food. Going back to basics with a balanced, species appropriate diet is not a fad. Before spouting off about "fads" I think I would do a little bit of research. I'm thrilled that Dr. K has been a great vet for you and I'm glad you really like the service his office provides. I actually went to Dr K for a second opinion as my vet who I loved at the time recommended that I put my 9 year old Akita down because he said she had lung cancer. Predatory/abusive pricing. It's not right what they charge for basic services. It's not right how they make you feel when you ask what a service is going to cost in advance. Doctor "comes off" as nice guy, but his wife (office collections) is one of the rudest people I have ever met. The Dr. & wife argue in front of you, their behavior is beyond unprofessional and they operate out of an office that has not been updated in 30 years. Records are taken on handwritten index cards and they operate like a clinic from the 80's, no computers. Not a single investment in technology has been made in the last 30 years, but they continually raise prices and charge more than surrounding vet clinics. They do NOT care about the well being of your animal, just ways of padding the bill. They look at every cat or dog as an opportunity for a family vacation. While my best friend was dying of terminal cancer and I explained that my funds are low, and my main concern was making sure that my friend was comfortable and pain-free as possible, the doctor convinced me to try experimental chemotherapy drugs at ridiculously high prices (only available exclusively from him). This caused my buddy further prolonged pain/suffering, and yes, did extend his life by a couple months and many vet visits ($500 per visit minimum). But it was cruel and the only one who benefited was the vet. I just wanted my best friend to live, And thought I was getting good advice. They know they can tell you anything when your in your most vulnerable position, and they just strike hard. Especially, when they have your credit card on file, which they keep on file without ever asking your permission. They charged me many times for medication's before I even knew the cost and agreed to it. It makes me so so sad to discuss the night that I had to put my good friend to sleep. Payment was the Priority discussion, and it just made a miserable experience so much more depressing. Looking back, I probably should've change vets sooner. I was terrified every single time one of my dogs got sick. I knew I couldn't leave his office with less than a 500 dollar vet bill, no matter how small the issue. He would find test that he needed to run, he would find medication's he would want to try, and then three days later he would want to try a new medication. The amount of money I was spending on all these medication's was of no concern to him. The veterinarian wouldn't listen to me Every time I tried to discuss the fact that money was a little tight and I couldn't keep affording these $500 vet bills Every 2 weeks. The vet would keep coming up with reasons why more test were needed and we just needed to keep on trying new medication's for my terminally ill dog that would be dying of cancer within a matter of weeks/months. I spent upwards of $20,000 in those three months. In the end, it was futile and I'm pretty sure he knew it. The vet really does come off as a nice guy and he might be, but when you walk in that clinic, he will be as nice as possible to make up for his wife's rudeness and to earn your trust to spend thousands on unnecessary tests and on medication's that might not work, but you're expected to purchase a couple months supply and if it doesn't work after a few days, you're just stuck with it. This happened to me a lot. I ended up with a cabinet full of so many medication's by the time my buddy died. Most of the medication's were only taken once, before the vet switched it to another expensive medication. It just hurts me so much that someone will take such advantage of someone in such a vulnerable state. And the audacity he has to talk about the expensive family trips that he goes on frequently. I can't believe I allowed myself to be taken advantage of for so long. I warn anyone seeking his medical attention for your animal friend to always get a second opinion and ask ahead for what any service will cost and compare with surrounding veterinary clinics. Do the research for yourself and you'll see this review is honest and from the heart. Go to a vet that cares! read more

Our dog Tank was diagnosed with severe allergies almost 4 years ago. From that point on we battled severe and chronic skin infections with recent ear infections. After our last visit with are vet and them telling us this would be our new "normal" of coming in every few weeks for antibiotic and antifungal treatments, I obviously wasn't accepting those words. When I came across Forum Vet Clinic I was hopeful again for our dogs health. I remember driving an hour there thinking to myself I would remain hopeful in hopes of getting new answers/treatment options but also trying not to get my hopes up after the nightmare we have endured the last few years. My husband and I have had pets for as long as we have been married (54 years), many dogs and cats. Our favorite breed of dogs are Westies. However, they have a propensity to suffer of skin issues due to allergies. Last summer, our Westie whose name is Amy, had extremely bad skin problems. Dr. K. LOVES animals, and I will tell you I am beyond happy for what he did for our Henry. He had a sever food allergy reaction from the "Designer Dog Food" that we were giving him. His chest was raw from the yeast infection and from scratching 24/7 and nothing was helping. Our Dog Groomer gave us Dr K's number and we are so glad she did. Dr K put him on a strict diet, which he said no table scraps, and put him on some medication and special food and had us bath him with medicated shampoo for 5 days straight, along with bathing him for 5 days straight, then once or twice a week with t he medicated shampoo. We saw a HUGE difference in less than a week. Needless to say we are thrilled with the out come. Dr. K and his staff are fantastic. I am so glad we were sent to him. I have 3 dogs and have been taking them to doctor Klenofsky for about 8 years. He is my 5th that and I will never change from him. I switched to him when he properly diagnosed my dog with a spinal injury when 3 other veterinarians including an orthopedic surgeon told me he needed knee surgery and he was scheduled for the next day. My husband and I decided to get one more opinion and thank God we did. I only wish doctor Klenofsky treated humans! Dr K and his staff have taken wonderful care of the many dogs I have had over the last 30 years. My appointments are timely and I've never waited. They always make sure that there are no obstacles (other dogs) on my way in and out. My dogs have had many illnesses and problems over the years and I feel I've been given the best advice and treatment. Dr K. And his staff have compassionately put three of my dogs to sleep, and were present to console me. They have gone out if their way to make sure I'm aware and prepared for rebates on products and to point out reasonable alternatives for others. I've always been treated with respect as well as my animals. Although the clinic isn't close to me I've never consider changing to a closer one. read more

My family and I have been going to Dr. Klenofsky since 1975 and he's been a spectacular vet for all of our pets. All of our pets under his care have had great health and have lived long lives. He really knows what he is talking about when it comes to diet and food nutrition because he's helped some of our pets with allergies clear all of those symptoms up with such a simple solution as to food! Although there are new fads and trends on what you should feed you dogs, including human food, paleo food, etc, theres really nothing better than actual dog/cat food. It's just finding that right food for your pet. We've had one cat that is an incredibly picky eater but is allergic to many foods. Since she wouldn't eat the food that Dr. K suggested, he found another solution through shots and medicine. She hasn't had a problem with her allergies since. When I went to get my puppy fixed about a year ago, Dr. K took more than the general precautions to make sure my puppy was completely healthy and in the least amount of pain as possible. Instead of just doing to general procedure of neutering him, he ran a few extra tests to see if his major organs were healthy, made sure his adult teeth were growing correctly, and microchipped him while he was still sedated so he wouldn't have to go through that pain. I personally appreciated every step he took since it gave me peace at mind that my puppy was healthy and had a nearly painless procedure. It's much easier to catch health problems at an early stage. All I can say is is that even though has a small clinic and is the only vet in this clinic, he's 10x better than having 15 vets in one clinic. Dr. K has had many years of experience working with thousands of highly individual cases, therefore he is able to make an accurate conclusion of what might be going on with your pet. Our dogs that he has taken care of have had an average life span of 12 years, our cats have lived on average 14 years. From getting to know him for my whole life, he's 150% dedicated to his pet patients and will do everything in his power to keep them healthy. I'm happy to say I am very lucky to have such a well educated and professional vet for my pets and know I will only go to Forum Vet for any pet I may have in the future. He and Gale are extremely helpful on working financially with you, giving all the information about what and why they need to do certain procedures, and acting in a comfortable, but professional manner. His experience with animals sets him apart from other vets, enabling him to find the best solution for your pet. About two years ago, my Brussels Griffon, Babette began scratching constantly. We began immediately trying to fix her situation, but unfortunately our usual vet did not know what the cause of the itching and scratching was. Suggestions were made: shampoos (which sadly didn't make a difference), diet change (which sadly didn't make a difference), and as time went on, Babs' skin was completely red, smelly, and half of her hair had been scratched out. It was horrifying to see her suffering so much. By some stroke of fate, a family friend had taken a dog to Forum Vet to see Dr. Klenofsky, and mentioned that he specialized in dermatology. So we made an appointment, and what a life-changing decision. Dr. K almost immediately knew the culprit: mites/scabies. He did a skin scrape, and while he didn't see mites right away, he thoroughly explained that this is not uncommon to not see mites in an initial scraping (he even showed me a passage in a medical book explaining this, and took the time to the point of where I really felt that I had an understanding of Babette's issues). Our previous vet did a skin scraping, and not seeing mites initially, immediately ruled out any treatment for scabies...leading to additional months-worth of suffering. Dr. K put us on a treatment plan and after months and months of Babette being miserable, the healing effects were IMMEDIATELY evident. It was a joy to watch her get her quality of life back. Looking at pictures of her from her first visit to now, is incredible. Completely different dog both in looks and personality. Words cannot describe how amazing Dr. K and his staff are! My cocker spaniels had been struggling with skin problems for years and no one could figure out what was going on. Dr. K was recommended by a friend whose own dog had been cured of a similar problem by him. Within one visit to Dr. K, he was able to diagnose the problem and give an appropriate treatment plan for each dog. My dogs are so much better after only a few months of treatment and continue to get better each day. I'm sad to say that after 3.5 years taking my fur babies to Dr. K, and tolerating snide comments and condescension, I have reached the end of my patience and tolerance. If you want to be talked down to, made to feel like your concern for your pet is ridiculous, and enjoy being cursed and yelled at (yes, you read that right), then this is the place for you. You will not find a less welcoming atmosphere nor will you find someone more into pushing scripts than this place. Not to mention the constant reminder of how educated he is, making sure you understand his superiority, lest you ask a question that 'challenges' him. The level of unprofessionalism is incredible. So much so that we walked out in the middle of an appointment because the doc refused to answer my questions and then cursed at me when I told him I was upset. I now need to find another doc ASAP for a sick pup. I have filed reports/complaints with the Missouri Veterinary Medical Review board and will repost this review on other sites in the hopes I can save someone else from the abuse we endured by this 'professional' and his staff. After a year and a half of treating my dog for "skin allergies" I luckily came across a woman who had similar skin issues with her pup and she told me about Forum Vet! Now I've spent 100s of dollars on multiple vet visits a month with no relief for my Chloe. I went back and forth for months on possibly euthanizing because I couldn't get any relief for my itchy pup. Every time we'd heal up her first problem, she break out with another rash/scabs and back to the vet we went. She was getting monthly allergy shots, steroids, creams, shampoos. It's been 2 weeks since her first appointment with Dr. K and Chloe is all cleared up for the first time in months, she's not itching and finally has the relief we've been searching for! I finally don't feel like I need to put my baby out of her misery and I couldn't be more thankful to have come across such a great clinic. Gail is so sweet and friendly, as is everyone else you meet on their staff. Dr. K is extremely knowledgeable in his field and it shows, he makes sure you walk out with a whole new world of information! Dr K and his staff are excellent. The attention and care the I have received for my puppy has been great. She had some skin issues, cleared up with what Dr K suggested. She had a pinched nose (Stenotic Nares) which he addressed during her spade. Turned out very very good. Nose looks great and my dog can breathe! We also addressed some digestive issues with a food brand that I was using already. As some suggest here, was I ever pushed to buy their food, treats, or other items. Dr K also helped with with my sr. dog. She was not eating well and had lost a lot of weight. He did some blood work and landed on trying some diet changes vs. an expensive sonogram. Guess what, my Sr. dog is happier and more energetic than she has been in a long time. Dr K takes a good conservative approach. His staff clearly loves these dogs as well. Two things to note and this is very important to an healthy dog - 1) Dr K know they are pets and loves his pets as much as any family owner but Dr K knows they are not people and need different care and treatment. 2) Dr K knows diet and it's affect on these little family members. Raw foods are not tested and do not address all of a dogs nutritional needs. 'Kibble' from reputable brands has had thousands of hours of development refinement and adjustment so our pets have the optimal nutrition. Frankly they have way healthier diets than us humans do. read more

Dr. Klenofsky is the only vet I would ever use for any of my animals and I have sent many people to his office. He spends so much time with me every visit and has gotten me through many tough times with 3 dogs! He is always doing research and checking into issues and will refer you to a specialist if he does not know all the answers. I've been taking my dogs there for 15 years. Dr. K Is very good, but the PRICES - OUTRAGEUOS. He will also ask you to do services that are not needed - such as fecal tests constantly. Other vets say this is not needed. He charges for Revolution and immunizations double than other vets. Most importantly, when my dog got sick, and I really needed him the most - he charged me $50 for a few texts messages I sent him about adverse reaction of the med he gave my dog. I have never heard of any doctor does that to HIS patients. In one week I paid $600 unnecessarily, triple "office visit" $50 each, for same issue (not even a follow-up charge but full price)...also $50 blood pressure test - outrageous! With all the vets in the area - I stopped going to him. Got a fabulous Vet at Maryland Hts . for half the price. when you have multiple animals, or when they get sick - it's a huge price difference!
