Visited Dr. Sarah twice already, both times on a short notice and both times she was extremely helpful, professional, kind and thorough in diagnosing and handling my scared senior cocker spaniel. She has great bedside manner (was good to me too), provides not only medical, but educational support, was quick to respond and even texted me prior to our visit. The facility is clean, everyone is so friendly, quick and efficient. I also loved how they took precaution when we thought my dog had kennel cough - in getting him in quickly and sanitizing right after, to make sure other dogs waiting in the lobby would not be affected. We moved to this area a few years ago and after having a horrible experience taking one of our dogs for their routine to a clinic in O'Fallon we decided to come here. It wasn't as bad at first. But the more we came for other services it felt as they were finding ways to charge us for more fees. For example, our dog came in for a yearly routine and we discussed about her fatty tumors and possibly getting them removed soon. After a few months we called to schedule an apt to get them removed but required another check up even though she was just seen a couple months ago. Which meant another office visit fee. The whole process and surgery just didn't seem like they really cared about us or our dogs. We decided after then we would drive 45 min to Imperial for their next yearly because they have always been animals first and we've only had wonderful personal experience with everyone that worked there. But then another emergency came up and our other dog became ill. They looked at her and gave her some meds and said if she didn't eat and feel better in a day or so call us and you can bring her back in. We called. "No available time, we can get you in Monday" My big baby hasn't eaten in 3 days and barely moved and I wasn't going to wait another weekend. To be honest the entire reason I go to McCauley is because of Dr. Sarah Bonstead. She is wonderful at explaining what needs to be done with our pets and having a fear based aggressive dog, she and her team are very understanding of his needs and work at his pace. It is evident in the trust she has gained from him. While this clinic is a bit more pricey then others in the area, I appreciate how much care they show my dog. I did have an experience with another vet in which I was trying to get my dog in and was rescheduled 3 times. While I understand doctors are human and things happen, this was very frustrating especially as I had to request to leave early from work every day. Mike Hoffman and Amy were great with both of our dogs and prescribed very conservative treatment that will heal our dogs. I was very impetigo each caregivers bed side manner. Very spacious and clean rooms and offices. The prices were good and the front staff helped me get my dogs in and out quickly. I went in to get my dog's nails trimmed. They treated us both like animals. Literally just standing there with a tech and asked me to put some kind of thing on my dogs face, yelling 'just pull the tab'! So after being on the floor and struggling with some strange apparatus that I have never been trained to put on my dog, I gave the f' up! It dawned on me, 'why am I down on the floor' struggling, when you two do this all week long! Neither one suggested anything to help or tried to assist, they laughed at me for saying something about I am not paid or trained to do this!!! I have two bad experiences with McCauley Animal Clinic...the first one was with my Chocolate lab who started to have growths on her eye. They started becoming larger and the only treatment offered was an expensive surgery. During this visit we also found a couple lumps on her body. Not really knowing what they were it was decided to put her on steroids to try to see if the lumps got smaller or even went away. Well the lumps did not get smaller, in fact they got worse and she started having seizures. But guess what happened to her eye growths???they magically went away from using the steroids(less than $20). They did not take the lumps as serious as the eye growths at least as far as expensive treatment plans and we ended up having to make the hard decision to put her down as the lumps were spreading rapidly. While my lab was going through this I also took my English Bull Dog in for treatment for his alopecia...long story short they sent me to an animal dermatologist (who knew those existed)??. But while we were talking about why Seeing a specialist would be best they made a comment about how it would have been nice to see my bulldog when he was a puppy or at least when he got neutered so a couple of other issues he was having could have been looked at and treated...this is how unconnected these doctors are to their patoents....they did the Neutering surgery as well as his first puppy visit and all of his other visits!!!. My experience is with Dr. Bonstead. I was referred to this office through a current patient who responded with the suggestion via social media. When the lady told me she saw Dr. Sarah Bonstead, the only thing I could do was gasp. When I previously used Dr. Sarah Bonstead, as my veterinarian, she told me I needed to put my cat down because he was very sick. That did not set well with me. So, I went and got a second opinion. Turned out my cat had diabetes and the place that I go to now worked with me to teach me how to give my cat insulin, and my cat lived another three years. When I called Dr. Bonstead to tell her about this diagnosis, she was so rude and mean. I'm serious. Very unprofessional. I am still not sure why she acted that way because she was clearly the one who was wrong, uneducated, uncompassionate, and very rude. After my experience at this clinic i felt compelled to give a detailed review. We have moved around a bit and have seen probably around 6 different vets in the St. Charles area. We have an older dog that recently is experiencing some serious health issues. After a horrible experience at a vet in close proximity we decided to seek a second opinion at our previous vet across town. As it became apparent we were dealing with serious issues we decided we needed to find a place closer to us. After a neighbor recommended McCauley we thought we would give it a try. We were told our first consultation would be free. Mind you my first visit here was far from a normal "meet my dog fluffy" visit. It was discussing a multitude of serious issues with an older dog. I meet with Dr. Aaron and the amount of time he spent with me and effort he put into an extremely difficult diagnosis was way beyond what is reasonable. He spent about an hour going over a multitude of potential problems and potential solutions. This was my first time in his clinic. It is no exaggeration to state he spent more time and exerted more effort in trying to find a solution to our problems than in our multiple visits to different vets. In short, it was way beyond any reasonable expectation. On top of this, and by no means should a pets progress be tied to a vet, but the protocol Dr. Aaron has implemented in our dog has resulted in more progress in the last two days than in the last 6 weeks of efforts. Granted my review is based on one visit, but i am comparing this visit to a number of experiences with a number of different establishments in the area. I do not take time to give too many reviews but after this experience I felt I needed to take the time to do so. First to express my gratitude towards Dr. Aaron and this clinic and secondly to potentially help someone seeking the best care for their pet. Our family just adopted a dog a week ago, and brought it too McCauley for our first visit. We had a bit of a wait with the curbside appointment pickup, but once the tech came out to get our pooch, we found them to be very friendly and thoughtful. This is a very long review but please read the whole thing! I was treated terribly by multiple people in that office and my dog was given things I specifically said I didnt want. 1st I called to make an apt, my dog was due for her yearly heart worm shot. She is a rescue that went through heart worm treatment. When I called the lady said she is also due for her distemper shot I said ok. Then she asked if I wanted to do the total health plus (a senior dog full blood workup) I said no, she said so you just want the shots she needs only. I said yes and I would like to talk about an allergy shot for my dog. Then she asked does your dog need the Bordetella vaccine? I said no we do not kennel her ever. Well this lady evidently has a problem paying attention because she had to ask me 3 times if I wanted the bordetella vaccine. By the 3rd time I said "No! We do not kennel her!" She giggled and said "sorry. I got it now" I then asked for a quote for that apt. She said for the heartworm shot, distemper and if you get the allergy shot it would be $290. I said great. So when we get to the apt I called and said "my dog barks at other dogs should we stay in the car until they are ready for us?" She said "ya let's do that. We will come out at your apt time and get you" The apt was at 3...at 3:15 my husband says lets just go in maybe they forgot about us. We walk in I go straight to the desk I say "Hi this is Hazel for 3:00 we decided to come in and wait" she acted like she had no idea what I was talking about finally said "oh ok I will let them know." Well she didnt because here comes the vet assistant "is this Hazel!!?" I said "yes." (Her name was Melissa I think) she says with some attitude"well I was just outside looking for you guys!" I said "we thought you forgot about us" She said "No! We are behind today." maybe that's why she was crabby. We go into the room I ask about the allergy shot she explains a little about the shot and a pill choice. Dr. Bonstead comes in they both go to town working on my dog. It all went very fast (I guess because they were running behind as Melissa stated earlier) After they work Hazel over I show her a lump on my dogs leg. Dr. Says she wants to aspirate it and check cells. I say that's fine. She says "some lumps they can keep some they cant" she comes back in smiling and happy as ever says "this is one she can keep!" I said omg that's great! Then hands me a pamphlet about mass tumors on dogs and at the very back paper is a quote for almost a $1000 surgery...I said "wait! You said she could keep this one!" She said "no I want this lump so I can send it far,far,far away" I said "you said this is one she can keep" she said "no you didnt hear me" I just looked at her Like what is happening! Dr. Tells lady at the front what all she did to my dog. I go to pay she says "that will be $452.55." Now mind you I got the allergy pills added on and they aspirated the lump so I knew the $290 quote was going to be higher but not that high. I said "I was quoted $290 with an add on for the pills and the aspiration of the lump. What else?" She said "she got a senior blood workup." I said "No! I said I didnt want that done!" she said "Sorry."I get home start really looking at the bill! I see the bordetella vaccine on the bill! They gave my dog the Bordetella vaccine After I told the lady 3 TIMES I didnt want or need it! So I call and talk to Christie the Practice Manager. This was the worst part of it all Christie is by far one of the most unprofessional people I have ever spoken to. I told her the whole story. I was just taken complete advantage of by people I trusted. I did everything right on my end, I called made an apt, voiced CLEARLY what I wanted and what I DIDNT want for my dog. They ended up giving my dog a vaccine she doesn't need and did a $147.50 full blood workup which again I made CLEAR I didnt want! Christie and I did not communicate well she evidently has a giggling problem when you are voicing your concerns about their practice. She had no empathy for me, She made excuse after excuse, she was very condescending. She said for the blood workup my dog would need because of the surgery for the lump thats funny because the blood had been taken before I even pointed out the lump! When I talked about the fecal sample on the bill that goes with the full health workup that no one in that office asked me to bring in Christie said "well sometimes we forget to ask" but they sure didint forget to charge me!! After 2 long and terrible conversations with Christie she said she will refund for the vaccine and she reluctantly said she will refund for the senior health workup. This place is all about the money and I have never encountered this many unprofessional people. I can never trust them again. The red flags were everywhere and I didnt read them well. I thank god the things they did extra were not harmful to my dog. read more

They took me back to a room let me sit for 15min or so. Came back in and said we cant shave her today but we can give her a free check up and that i would have to make another appointment. What a lovely place! I brought my dog to get yearly shots (we just moved to the area), and it was a great appointment. It started with the ease of making the appointment--I did that online, and waited for a phone call back so they could get more information. The lady who called could not have been nicer. I was able to get an appointment on the day and at the time that I needed. When we arrived, we were immediately greeted. The place was clean and tidy. The building itself was easy to find--a large wooden building with close parking. After my Ellie was weighed, we were shown straight to a room. Dr. Michelle came in immediately with a vet assistant. Both were friendly and great with my dog. She was scared to death, and they made it easier for her to see me during the visit to calm her down. They gave Ellie a thorough exam and then her shots. Dr. Michelle also took blood for heartworms, which she did effortlessly. The entire visit was awesome and very reasonably priced. One thing that really impressed me is that they didn't try to sell me anything extra like other vets that I had visited in the past (food, meds, etc). ZERO stars if I could! BEWARE!!... This place has Zero compassion for anything or anyone but putting cash in their pockets. We took our pet there and signed up for a treatment that they made us pre pay for the entire treatment before starting. She had one round and became violently ill and we had to take her the ER where she stayed in ICU for one week. Almost lost her THREE times. The ER questioned if this office did the dosage correctly and if this could have been a reaction to that. NOT once did Dr Cutt or the office call to see how she was doing even though they knew she was in ICU and almost did not make it. I called to speak with Dr Cutt while she was admitted to VSS.. well... forget trying to speak to a Dr live because they seem to think only their time is valuable. After several attempts she FINALLY called me back and assured me we could get a refund for the services we prepaid for that she did not receive. We opted to not have Mc Cauley finish her treatment due to the fact we still have no idea why she became violently ill after they did one injection AND due to the fact they were horrible at even speaking with us and seemed to not even care how our girl was doing. When we went to collect the refund they argued with us and would not refund our money. After over an hour in the office they kept ¾ of what we paid when we ONLY RECEIVED ¼ of what we paid! They are crooks who do not care about their patients and only seem to care about collecting every single nickel and dime from you instead. I would NEVER trust my loved one to them. Run in the opposite direction and do not waste your time. Also they had something strange going on with 2 different women claiming to be the same Dr Cutt wearing the same shirt when one of them was not even a DVM! read more

Would not recommend having this be your long term vet. Was here earlier this week helping a friend bring in her dog that unexpectedly passed away at home. Friend had been seeing this vet for years (the dog had diabetes, tendon issues, etc) and spent a good amount of time and money here (specialty food, medications,etc). We had called before arriving to make sure we were doing things correctly. This was both of our first times with this sort of experience. Once we were there they allowed us to go into a room for grieving. When my friend asked if she could speak to the veterinarian because she had a couple of questions about the whole situation the vet tech was very hesitant to find out if that was a possibility. Once we had asked again she left the room to ask the veterinarian if she was available which she promptly came back to inform us that there would be a fee ($46 to be exact) to speak to the veterinarian. After how long and frequently this dog and owner had been going to this vet. We were all appalled! Especially in this time of grieving. To add we never saw the veterinarian the entire time we were there (20-30min), not even to express empathy. It was very clear that money comes before care at this facility. read more

They then instructed me to come up to the vet and due to her being DOA (Dead on arrival) it would be $35.00 fee. When I arrived obviously upset I asked to speak to the vet who had taken care of my dog over the years. A vet tech came back into the room and her exact words were if you want to talk to the vet you will he charged an office fee of $46.00 otherwise she won't come in to talk to you. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! I'm absolutely disgusted the place I took my animal for care couldn't provide me with a few moments of compassion. Don't take your animals there if you expect them to be empathetic in a distressing time after the loss of your beloved family member. Shame on them!! read more

We took our dog in for vomiting, drinking a lot of water and sluggishness.After some test, a shot and home medication we were told he would be fine and to isolate from other dogs temporarily. We took our new kitten here in May 2018. The staff was very friendly, although I don't think our kitten is a fan of the place. We have a puppy joining our family soon and we'll be bringing her here as well. We ended up getting another kitten in October 2018 and once again the staff and vet we saw were great and answered all our questions.
