They also occasionally do limited time specials and sales on unlimited monthly class packages around holidays (for about $65-99+). The facility is spacious with a variety of machines and free weights. Everyone is pretty courteous and considerate with sharing the space. They have bathroom but I'm not sure about showers. I've never asked. They have an elite team of trainers that are dedicated to their work and will push you. They all are as fit and talented as their fit physiques imply. They will unlock a strength, power and resilience in you that you never even thought you had. I train with Cam and he is AMAZING - creates great muscle building and endurance workouts. Prepare to lift heavy. After a session or class with any of their trainers, you can enjoy a protein shake, wrap, cold pressured juice or smoothie from the juice stand onsite, Perfect Pair Juice Bar. They offer a great variety of nourishment to help your body recover after a good burn. They also sell juice cleanses that WORK (if you strictly follow their directions)! I lost 8 on their 3-day juice cleanse. Overall, the best part of this place is the solid community you gain with other gym patrons that you train with. I have learned a lot from him already and know that every Tues and Fri, I am going to have a terrific 45 minute workout (or a little less when I am late!). By terrific, I mean hard as heck - David is very encouraging and also very precise about form and the amount of weight. He pushes when appropriate, which seems like 90% of the time!, and backs off the weight when he sees that I'm not keeping good form. I told David that I wanted to focus on arms, back & shoulders (I had a very good base but had started losing my tone/cut due to partial neglect for a few months). He designs my training session around that - with some core thrown in to make sure I'm maintaining that with my other workouts during the week. Every session has been different and challenging so far. I do get sore after our workouts but not in a painful, can't-raise-my-arms-to-wash-my-hair way. His gym is your basic physical fitness gym with a solid variety of weights and other fitness equipment. He has very very popular bootcamp classes -- once I started working out with him I realized a lot of Avondale Estaters frequent his gym and take great pride in earning their "levels", e.g., Warrior, Elite etc. I earned my warrior, which is level one and actually sort of thrilled me. I want to wear my Tshirt out & about so people know, hey, I made it too. :) David also offers small group training - women sculpting groups and other strength training classes along with bootcamp. I think the best things I can share about David are that he has extensive experience and knowledge of exercise and anatomy, he is encouraging, communicates very clearly and specifically to ensure proper form - and he's just a really good, nice guy.

First and foremost, I am just your average chick in the sense that I do NOT habitually workout, count my calories, meal prep, etc. I did have a membership at LA Fitness for 3 years (2015-2017) but was really only actively using it for 1 year so I finally made the decision to cancel it. I first step foot into this box July 4, 2017 when my boyfriend invited me to come to their post-WOD ("workout of the day") BBQ. I literally only came for the food, sorry! At the time I still held a membership at LA Fitness and had absolutely NO intentions of committing to another gym; Especially not CrossFit. But of course everyone urged me to give it a try and I left that day with the mindset that CrossFit was a cult (lol). [...Fast forward to March 2018 when the 2018 Reebok CrossFit Games were going on...] My boyfriend asked me to come to the box with him every Friday this month to record his WODs and so I did. On the last week of March, he spontaneously bought me a Groupon for their Fundamentals class ($32) and the rest was history... I've never found a fitness program that I enjoyed until I started CrossFit. Reasons why I love this program (and why it works for me): *Your WOD is created for you & released on their app (Wodify) 8PM the night before so you never have to pre-plan before coming. Plus, they're typically only 15-30mins long but it'll get your HR way up there bc of its style of HIIT. *You always work out in groups/classes which is motivating when you feel like stopping mid-workout but everyone around you is still going strong. Everyone is also so welcoming & full of encouragement! *If there is an exercise that you are unable to do, there is always a scaled version of it or some type of exercise you can do to work on those targeted muscles. *There is always a coach present to stretch you out as a group, ensure everyone warms up properly, & guide you throughout the WOD/correct your form if necessary. *They have a great sound system & nothing is better during a workout than music drowning out the sound of your pain. More about the Groupon Deal: Fundamental classes start at the beginning of every month. Classes are MWT @ 7:30PM for the first 4 weeks. You will then graduate to the intermediate class which you will be allowed to attend for the following 2 weeks and decide if you would like to purchase a membership. You get a cool swag bag for joining which includes free monthly body composition analysis at Max Nutrition. More about CrossFit Valitus: Classes are offered 6 days/week (Monday-Saturday) with M-F at 6AM, 7AM, 12PM, 4:30PM, 5:30PM, and 6:30PM and Saturday at 9AM or 10AM. Some Saturdays are partner workouts to which you're more than welcome to bring a friend/family member as long as they're familiar with the WOD's exercises. They're also open on Sundays at 12PM as an open gym so you can come and work on any exercise that needs improvement. Oh, did I mention you get access to Dynamo's Swim Club!? Lastly, there are currently 4 coaches and every single one of them is awesome in their own way. *Crystal--The owner and awesome fundamentals instructor *Art--The head coach who's great at making sure you're stretched out for you WOD and trains our triathlon team *Rene--Beast crossfitter who also holds flexibility and strength training classes a few times a week *Isa--Best WOD DJ and motivator since she Rx's just about every workout (sometimes 2-3x/day!) Just keep coming and eventually you will feel and look like a veteran. This is a judgment free zone and the other members tend to hype you up to encourage you to keep on going when you're ready to quit. There is a child care center available as well and a smoothie shop right next door. The prices are more than reasonable and the experience is out of this world. I hate gyms but some how I'm always upset if I can't make it to Effect at least 3-4 days out of my week.

We did a few circuit training workouts which was fun but tough especially as they did not have air conditioning on this particularly warm day. I've had an incredible experience with Corey at Body Design! I joined because after 11 years of…read moremotherhood and letting my own needs take a backseat, I knew I needed to prioritize my health. I wanted to increase my overall strength and improve cardiovascular endurance, but I had no idea how to begin. Now, after 6 weeks with Corey and Body Design, I have lost 5.2% body fat and gained 5lbs in muscle. My heart rate after the endurance test dropped from 168bpm to 151bpm and I went from being able to do 0 push ups to doing 4 push ups. And my blood pressure dropped too! But most importantly, I feel more confident in knowing that I can do tough workouts and I can do them well! I have learned to make fitness a part of my daily routine. I've built the habits that will keep me healthy and strong. And another added bonus is that my migraine headaches have drastically reduced since starting the program.
