PSA! Ive had two experiences with this gym owner and staff. My first encounter was on Monday, Feb…read more10th, for his 5 am boot camp. We all got there by 5 but it didn't actually start til 515-20 am. There's no circuit training involved. He has limited equipment so you stand around waiting for your turn while your heart rate plummets from the lack of cardio. When it's your turn, I observed members holding weights too heavy for them to use which lead many of them to perform exercises in bad form. This increases risk of injury and also targets the wrong muscle groups than intended. How do I know? I am a therapist with 12 yrs of experience. I only hire trainers as a motivator NOT to teach me correct techniques. So I watched his boot camp as his assistant was wearing me out by making me do 3 exercises the entire session as a new member of the gym. Ridiculous and didn't do anything to gauge my strengths and weaknesses. Because I had paid him upfront for 2 months I realized I was stuck going to this gym til my membership ended. I will say the meal plan provided will cut your weight as he lazily hands you a printout from the internet advising you to drink a protein shake instead of eating a meal. Duh! of course skipping meals works. smh. Anyway, I knew I couldn't take another group class so I decided to ask for personal training one on one. Maybe he wouldn't be so lazy with someone who knows their stuff? We agreed upon 8 am the next morning. So 2/13/20 at 805 am I showed up to his gym and the lights are shut off and the doors locked. It's pouring rain but I knocked on the windows and tried to forcibly open the door thinking he may be in the back even with no car present outside. I get back into my car and contact him around 810am stating I was outside. Then I followed it up with a message to his close friend who is also a member of the gym. He doesn't respond for 20 mins then states he's inside. I get out and try the doors again and they're open. I asked with annoyance in my voice, what's going on? we agreed upon 8am. Instead of immediately apologizing because it's clear he forget, he starts to get loud and yell about not having to kiss anyone's ass. He stands up and starts walking towards me and yelling that he never agreed to meet me. Mind you, I live 45 mins away and would never agree to drive somewhere unless we agreed beforehand. He continues to yell and I calmly try to redirect him as I see this is escalating to the point of no return and I feared for my safely. Dude is waaay too hostile. Before I could ask for my refund, he ended his tirade by telling me "to get the fuck out of his gym". I kindly asked for my refund since he provided no session. He paused, thought about it and stated no. I reminded him that I signed no contract and that he was liable to give me a refund. Again, he shouted for me to leave and started walking towards his front door. As he held the door open for me and I walked by, he let the door bang into my shoulder. I saw this because his hand was still on the door. Bastard. He's lucky I didn't want to see another black man arrested for assault and battery. DO NOT patronize this business if you value professionalism. This was a very hostile environment. He's quick to anger/trigger and unable to simply say he is sorry. This owner is the perfect example of what not to do as a business owner. I repeat, I do not recommend this business when there are so many other gyms willing to foster positive environments without threat of physical harm. And who are certified in more than a personal training certificate that is easily obtainable from the internet.

I've been a member of LA fitness for about a year now. I enjoy the membership package that I…read morecurrently have because it lets me go to any LA Fitness in the US outside of just my home gym (Covington Highway). That package is especially useful because I travel frequently for work and LA Fitness has been the only gym chain that remains consistent with the amenities that it offers across the majority of its locations. It also allows me to now feel like I have no excuse to miss a workout no matter my location. This particular LA Fitness in Stone Mountain has EASILY become my favorite. So much so that I pass five other more convenient LA Fitness' leaving work downtown just to get to this one. (Atlantic Station, 5th St, Church St. Piedmont & even my home location, Covington Hwy haha). No knock to any of those locations AT ALL, because i still visit from time to time and the machines don't necessarily differ, but Stone Mountain has my heart for a couple of reasons: My number 1 reason the smoothie station. The husband and wife that operate the kiosk here are two of my favorite people in the world. They are extremely personable and really make me feel like family. They greet me by name and already know what I'm going to order before I even say anything. We have genuine convo throughout the whole smoothie making process and have even looked out for me on a couple of occasions with a free smoothie. The amazing thing is, they are this personable with ALL of their customers. I feel like I'm cheating on them if i go anywhere else. Also, they learn your tendencies and when you're ready for your smoothie. If i get in later than usual prior to closing, they encourage me to go ahead and work out and bring me my smoothie to the floor while I'm lifting when they know I'm at the halfway mark of my workout. These two are amazing. Also, I thoroughly enjoy how they aren't always crowded and the amounting machines they own. It's sometimes harder to workout at other locations (especially Mondays right after work) because every machine and room is overwhelmingly crowded. I've never had that issue here and I love that. Lastly, their cycling room is pretty cool. It's auditorium style which i feel is pretty cool, unique and fun. Overall this has been my favorite LA Fitness for a while and I'm always excited to come back.

I'm giving a low rating because I'm starting to see roaches again. I've seen a roach almost each…read moretime I've gone over the last three months. That's not a good sign of things to come.
