Julia begins each session by asking me how my body is feeling and is always listening and taking mental notes. From there she'll make a quick assessment and then we begin, always building on our last session and incorporating new moves to continue strengthening and aligning my body. It is amazing how much knowledge one person can have about the movements of the human body. There may be days where I'm feeling very tired and feel I cannot muster the energy to go to my session, but I do and each time I don't regret it. In fact, I feel reinvigorated after my workout, and each time I feel so much happier and better about myself. Julia is someone who truly enjoys and has a passion for sharing her Pilates knowledge and cares for your well being. I'm a guy who regularly lifts weights, runs on a treadmill, and plays softball. Despite doing all…read moreof those activities, I have a gut that makes me look like I'm 6 months pregnant (I do eat like a pig). I also have 33 years worth of wear and tear on my knees. I regularly practice yoga since it's a great way to mitigate stress. However, I've recently started to feel disconnected from yoga. You don't get individual attention in a crowded room with 70 people. The donation classes are smaller, but have inexperienced instructors. I'm not quitting yoga altogether. To quote Ross Geller, I'm on a break. I decided to try out Pilates, which is basically yoga sans random Hindu chants. Almost every Pilates studio that I Googled was prohibitively expensive. Fortunately, I stumbled upon Progressive, which has reasonable prices compared to other Pilates studios. After reading all of the positive Yelp reviews, I gave Progressive a shot and took the Monday 8 PM class. When I entered the studio, I was bewildered by all of the fancy equipment. The instructor was a woman who was about 5 feet tall, 95 pounds. I thought to myself that the class would be a cakewalk. I was in for a rude awakening. This class pushed me to the limit. There were times when I wanted to cry. Nevertheless, it was exactly what I needed. The mantra "no pain, no gain" is so true. Many of the poses worked my abs. There were also a few which caused me to feel a burn in my biceps and triceps. And unlike in yoga classes that I've taken, the instructor in this class worked out with us- she didn't just tell us what to do. Although we didn't use the fancy equipment, I definitely got my money's worth. There are a few flaws, none of which will deter me from coming back. The studio is very small- there was only one other student in the class. The space where the class is held is literally right near the door. This will be a serious issue in the winter. Another flaw is that the times in which the classes are offered are extremely limited. There's only one class per day on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The only evening classes are on Mondays and Wednesdays. A third flaw that's not the fault of the studio is that once the L train shuts down next year, it will be a pain in the ass getting here. Nevertheless, I'll cross that (Williamsburg) bridge when I get there.

I've been coming to Yoga Space for about 4 months or so now. I love that I know that I will get a…read morehigh quality session every time. I've done Vinyasa, Sculpt, HIIT Pilates, Mat Pilates, and Serene Yin. The classes that are meant to be more challenging definitely are, and so you get a good work out. The studio has everything you need, from mats to props, but I prefer to bring my own mat or a towel because I am a bit on the germaphobic side and I think because the mats have been sprayed down by alcohol so many times, they aren't that grippy anymore. The only thing I find strange is, I feel like almost every time I've been to the studio, it's always someone subbing for the main instructor. So, I can't say I have someone that I consistently like and go to because I feel like it's a different person every time. That being said though, I have nonetheless thought every session I've been to were pretty high quality. Definitely recommend! P.S. Because it's the holidays they have a Christmas tree up, which makes me feel happy looking at it :)

Within a day of posting a search for a trainer, Erika from MFG reached out. Erika was so thoughtful, easy to talk to, and dedicated to setting me up with a trainer that could work best with me. Moreover, my schedule tends to be utterly inconsistent and all over the place. Despite it taking me a couple of month to sign up (I had surgery shortly after talking to Erika), I was so focused on getting my health and fitness back on the track to wellness. Even during my surgery and hospitalization, Erika sent me text messages that gave me motivation and support. Truly, Erika, if you're reading this, that meant the world to me! Once I got clearance to workout, I was set up with Ashley, who in one word is AWESOME. She has PCOS too, so she's able to give me tips about eating a clean diet that's good for PCOS sufferers. On top of that, Ashley is so flexible with what times and days she can come by. As someone who thought they hated to workout, thanks to Ashley, I genuinely look forward to post-workout soreness. She got a girl who works 12+ hour days, to work out 6x a week. In short, i can't say enough wonderful things about MFG. They're truly caring, super- knowledgeable, motivating and life-changing!

I'm a beginner who needed to build muscle after a few long-distance running injuries and didn't know where to begin. I was immediately blown away by the instructor Sylvia Borowska, who is so knowledgeable about strength training. She runs her classes with warmth, energy, precision and humor. The vibe she creates along with Scott Leiendecker, who also teaches here, is women-friendly, queer-friendly, everyone-friendly--and between the two of them they have a combined 25+ years of teaching experience. After taking their classes consistently these past few months I can't believe the strength I'm building, and I look forward to working out every day. Kenny strictly adheres to corona best practices. We work out in a large space and are socially distant. We wear masks and wipe everything down. I feel safe and am so grateful I can exercise without worrying about this. I've never been great at working out and I've learned how to do things I'd only previously watched men do that the gym. In 2 months, I've seen excellent results. I am strong (lifting more weight than I ever thought I could!!) and have lost weight. This is just 2 months in and I'm so excited to see where I'll be in 6. Lastly, Kenny makes these workouts I never thought I could do easy. Somehow, when he's coaching you, you forget the pain of what you're doing. No workout is ever the same and it's always kept interesting. He's got a gift and my body is benefitting from it big time!
