I had to update my original review from the first time I used Jay & his crew back in 2013. Here I am, 10 years later, and STILL HIGHLY RECOMMEND Fossum Floors! At this point, they have done at least 6 big jobs for me, in my own home and rental properties, and their quality of work is top notch. They show up on time, always clean up after themselves, and are just great people to work with. Jay had installed our floor (1100 sq ft of wall to wall vinyl planks) several years ago and it looks great. Because of some damage we recently had to do repairs, and his crew was able to fix it. He responded quickly when we called, and he and his crew were fast, clean and meticulous in getting the floor put back together, and it all looks as good as new. Beyond exceptional! I turned to Fossum Floors to complete a project after releasing another contractor due to non-performance issues prior to commencing work. Start to finish Fossum was nirvana. Project scope was removal of existing first floor hardwood/carpeted areas and installation of 1K square feet of a selected engineered hardwood product. Jay did a great job on the floor at our new house in Ventura. We hired him to put in formaldehyde free bamboo downstairs and maple floating floors upstairs. The house we bought is a "fixer upper" and he and his team quickly removed the disgusting original carpet with pet stains in about a day. There was already some cheaper bamboo existing at the house and he installed the newer bamboo in a way that it went with the existing bamboo. He also installed a moisture barrier below the bamboo and he let the new bamboo floor "breathe" for a couple days so it could adjust to the humidity and get to its stable size before he finished the install. He then put the maple in upstairs and carpeted the stairs. He also replaced the previous owner's poor bamboo install in one of the bathrooms with water resistant vinyl that looks like stone. Much better now. After he was done, the house looked 100% better! He does a high quality installation and it is obvious he has significant experience. His rates were reasonable as well. He let us choose the material and gave us pointers on types of moulding to get that went well with the floor. He also finished very quickly after he received the material shipment from us. I would give Jay Fossum ZERO stars if that was an option. He walked off the job on the first day. We picked out vinyl flooring from ProSource, and they recommended DryTech adhesive for us to glue it down to the concrete. He refused to glue the floors.....So we questioned him about why? Since ProSource recommended this adhesive to glue the flooring. He didn't like being questioned so he walked off the job in a huff. Seems to be very difficult to work with, and VERY unprofessional. I would avoid using him at all cost. read more

Jay and his crew just finished our engineered wood flooring project a few hours ago. We are not only thrilled with how the project looks, but Jay's (and when I say Jay's I mean his crew and him) dedication to our project was fantastic. From my first interaction of requesting him to visit our home to the jobs completion he was accommodating and professional. A bit about our project. We installed engineering floors about 20 years ago and wanted to remove the existing carpet and replace with new engineered flooring. The existing flooring was discontinued and although there were several options to add new flooring, refinish, etc. we choose to remove the existing flooring and replace with all new materials. Flooring installed is a bit over 1000 sq ft. It was a fairly straightforward job of removing all the materials and then preparing the slab for the new installation. It took a lot of work to clean the existing adhesive, clean and level the slab. The only unique area was in the entry where we have a stair nose border. We wanted to salvage this border (if possible). Jay agreed to try to salvage, but advised that if it could not be salvaged new stair nose would need to purchased, installed and stained. We agreed that we would review the best solution for this issue and arrive at a reasonable price. (Which is exactly what we did). We had five other companies bid on the project, three of which we engaged with. One company was not responsive so we dropped them. Pricing for the remaining three were all within a range or reasonableness with Jays not being the lowest cost. We selected Jay because of he just seemed to be easiest to deal with. His references were all positive. The job was completed in the time frame he estimated and we have about 40sq ft of extra material (which is fine with us). Okay, after looking on other sites (you know.. Angie..Home Ad, etc.) I thought I'd try Yelp. Found Fossom Floors with 5 star rave reviews and said "well it's worth a try". Contacted Jay and immediately discovered that he and his guys are unbelievable. From the first meeting thru a 1400 sq. ft. installation, everything was "perfect". At 80, I've had times to deal with a lot of contractors and service folks.. I have never, in all that time been more satisfied, pleased, and amazed at the work, attitude, and pleasantness of experience. In our case, it was necessary to remove 3 rooms of stone tile, 5 rooms of carpet (halls too), fill in a sunken living room and bring in up to level with the rest of the floor, and move in and out major furniture which included a Grand Piano !! All that in an efficient and pleasant manner... So what else could I want? Oh yes, how about coming back the day after the job to touch up an obscure little 2" square under a sink cabinet with white paint !! I think it's called attention to detail. By the way, did I mention that Jay is one of the nicest guys I've ever met... He is certainly in my top ten acquaintances.
