Over the course of 2 weeks, my wife and I went to 8 different flooring stores trying to find a good price on LVP. We learned a lot and thought we had found the right brand at the right store at a decent price. Then she wanted to go to one more store, and I was reluctant but went...and boy was she right (this is not normal for her). Norvand was working with some other customers at first, but then showed us the brand we thought we'd settled on, then he compared it to a higher quality brand and gave us a remarkable price that almost felt too good to be true. He came off a bit blunt at first, but after working with him for a bit now, he is honest, genuine, and kind. His wife is also very nice, she works at the store as well. We did not have his team install the flooring as we already had a contractor, but he was very communicative throughout the whole process (even after we needed to order 3 extra boxes after coming up short) and he was straightforward. We got LVP, moisture barrier plastic, and MDF base boards, all at prices that were great. He even stored my dolly over night when I forgot it there during the pick-up. Big fan. We had a very disappointing experience with Norv at Carpeteria. He initially said he would come out to measure our property for new carpet, but never showed up--and we only found out he wasn't coming after we called him ourselves. When we followed up, he told us we needed to pick out a carpet material before he would even come measure, which was never mentioned before. On top of that, he was rude and dismissive over the phone. They had a great selection of flooring in their store and were extremely helpful in guiding me to select the correct type of wood floor to install in our large home taking into consideration that we have an active dog in residence! When they installed the floor, they worked quickly and efficiently. The result was a beautiful wood floor throughout the entire first floor of our home. Their attention to detail was especially appreciated. What was outstanding was they came up with a solution to how to handle heavy furniture so that it didn't scuff or damage the new floor. The owner of this store, Norv, is a pathological liar and will do anything, say anything to make a sale. Once he makes the sale, he tells different lies than he told to make the sale and starts negotiating the job and its parameters without regard to the terms of the sale. It was THE WORST experience we have had with a vendor. We ultimately canceled the job and got a refund although we are waiting for our credit card to show that the refund has been made. We went to this store to replace all flooring in our 1294 square foot vacation condo on the beach in Ventura. We don't live in Ventura and are here only occasionally. We picked out some very high end Berber carpet and some vinyl flooring for the kitchen and bathrooms. (We can't have wood throughout because of HOA regulations). Also we bought baseboards to be installed throughout the unit. We told Norm we wanted his people to remove the old flooring, dispose of the used materials and then install the new flooring and baseboards. We told Norm that the condo is furnished. He said that was no problem. We told Norm that the job could be done only on two specific days. He confirmed with one of his employees in front of us that the job could be done in two days and that the employee would have his crew working those days. We told Norm that our son had an appointment with his oncologist in our home City to monitor his recovery from cancer and that we couldn't be back on any other days to let his crew into the building. It was therefore crucial that he assured us that he could do the job in those specific two days. He did assure us. We made a deposit and left the store. Total cost of the job would approach $7k. Norm sent a man to measure the condo precisely. He did so and left. Norm contacted my wife by text and asked for authority to order the materials later that day. My wife immediately responded by text that he should order the materials. Norm called my wife later and rudely asked her why she had not responded. My wife told Norm that she responded immediately and had authorized the ordering of the materials. Norm rudely stated that he might not have the materials in time. I called Norm back. He lied several times in the discussion. He said "I don't take texts as confirmation. I need verbal confirmation." I explained to him that a text uses words which is verbal and that texts can be binding contracts (I've been a litigator for 30 years). I told him that he needed to confirm for me that the job would be completed and finished within the two day time frame. He said it couldn't be done for various reasons. He said it would help for us to arrange for someone else to remove the flooring. He said he would give us a $800 break. We agreed. He said that he was 99% sure the job would be done in two days. With the job scheduled to start on August 17, Norm asked to come by and inspect the floors. We met with him. He said the job could not be done in two days. He went from saying that there was a 100% chance that the job WOULD be done to saying there was a 100% chance the job could NOT be done in two days. He lied over and over about the scope of the job. He kept saying we changed the scope. (We actually did change the scope - we made the job smaller by doing the demo and removal work). He was rude and patronizing to my wife who is a lawyer and Duke educated engineer. He is without doubt the most dishonest man I've dealt with in any vendor capacity. Use this guy at your own risk. He will come in and RIP out to put in laminate wood however, I will be charged for it! How is this helping? Just had our entire house (yes...bathrooms and kitchen too) done in wood laminate from Carpeteria. We are very pleased with the floor and love it. Martin and his crew (son, brother, cousin) worked harder then I have ever seen anyone work and got the job done in 2 days instead of 3. They did the demo of our tile (lots of it) and carpet too. They were neat, didn't ding up one wall, polite and boy do they know their business. The floor where it goes under the door moldings is perfect and the only two pieces where we needed trim (sliding glass doors) is in itself a work of art. They even did their own staining of the quarter round for the kitchen and it matches perfectly. There is not one thing I can say that isn't good about this crew. I would highly recommend them. We moved to Ventura 2 1/2 years ago and updated the carpeting when we moved in. We went to Carpeteria and met Humberto, who is a gem! We could not have asked for a more knowledgeable, patient person. Three months ago we decided to update our bathroom area and changed to a wood floor from a tile and carpeted area, and without a thought went back to Humberto. Humberto worked with us on a difficult change in floor heights between two rooms and made sure things came out perfect. He made two separate trips out to measure and discuss all of our options. This is my third time using Mike Stein at Carpeteria on Main Street in Ventura. I go back because every experience has been great! First had some carpet installed, then they did my entire two story condo with laminate and tile. Now we moved again to a single family home and got gorgeous Maple flooring and some new carpet for a couple bedrooms. The installers are excellent, my new paint is unharmed even after the extensive demo needed. They put everything back and took care to clean everything up. This is my first time carpet work ever, and I went straight to them per yelp reviews. I don't know other places, but they know the products and trade inside out. They also offer odds-and-ends and sale items for you to save. You pay what you get on them, but I would say their pricing is very reasonable. About 4 years ago we had a small laminate flooring job that Mike Stein took care of for us. Even though it was a very small job, Mr. Stein treated us, and the job, with respect and a level of service that ordinarily would be reserved for only the best customers. As a result we sought Mr. Stein for another larger job in our home. Again, Mr. Stein and his installers exceeded expectations.
