I have been to Fosters a couple of times the last one being 2/1/19. This place might surprise you. From the outside, it looks like your typical fast food establishment. Once inside you'll see a typical fast food menu with one big surprise, a larger than average beer menu. Fosters appears to be very in tuned with the current craft beer market. They have their digital beer menu hooked up to Untapped and tap takeover nights. I also enjoyed the fact that this location of Foster's has specials like a monthly milkshake flavor and/or add ons like a fried egg on their burger. (The fried egg and couple of their specials are not on the menu pads in the front so make sure to check the board when placing your order.) It appears Foster's tries to cater to their crowd. So all of the other reviews here are from people that "aren't big meat eaters, ordered a veggie burger, ordered a grilled cheese and a salad" As a true meat eater, and someone went here because I knew they were know for their made to order burgers and a true meat eater/lover I had to write a review. First, vs other burger joints... I think Fosters is definitely near the top or at the top. I've eaten at some fudruckers (the one in Sterling VA is pretty good) that can compare -- but a lot of fudruckers in this area are old and kinda run down now. Fosters is a newer chain and I think an overall better franchise. All of their burgers come with fries and a soda, and you can tell them how you want the burger cooked. This is a HUGE advantage over Five Guys (which I also like -- their fries kick ass) but a true burger fan doesn't ever order more than medium cooked (unless you are eating at some sketchy hole in the wall place or drive thru restaurant) So in my opinion Fosters burgers are better than five guys and their fries are almost as good. To top it off many of the locations (Chantilly has it for sure) they have daily specials. I apologise for not remembering what day is what, but on some days they have 2 for 1 burgers, other days a discounted burger, they also have all you can eat wings day for $10 (I forgot to mention their wings kick ass too... big, plump, and a great sauce). They also offer really cheap beer (another advantage over 5 guys) Domestics are under 2 dollars, and premium's are under 3. Thank you Doubletake Deals for introducing me to a great new spot to enjoy craft beer. Seeing $40 worth of food and craft beer advertised for $20, I couldn't resist. It was a while since I had last been to a Foster's, and I always found them to be good but a bit overpriced. So the deal, plus the promise of craft beer, had me sold. Taking a shot that they would have televisions to watch the first half of the Ravens game, the wife and I stopped by Sunday late afternoon around 4PM. After some confusion on the certificates - only one can be used per visit and not for alcohol - we placed our orders for food and beer. I'll start with the food, as the options here are basic. They are known for their 1/2 pound charburger, but also offer a cheesesteak, turkey burger, hot dogs, veggie burger, and other sandwiches. Everything is ordered at the counter, filling in an order form for sandwiches, sides, and toppings. Wings - traditional and boneless - are also offered and are on special during the daily happy hour. The wife and I opted for a burger and we both were happy. They were cooked well done but juicy, with less mess and grease than Five Guys. However, a burger here can run you much more, as many toppings that they have free are extra here. The craft beer selection is where this Foster's stands out. They have a WONDERFUL beer selection, and are mindful to keep different styles and focus on local craft brews. Devil's Backbone Vienna Lager, Port City Tidings, DC Brau's Pale Ale, Oskar Blues's G'Night Imperial Red, and New Belgium's Imperial Coffee Stout from the Lips of Faith series were among the options. I believe there was also an IPA from Weyrerbacher, Pilsner from Victory, and a double-IPA from Du Claw. 10 beers It was a good job of representing multiple local brewers, and multiple styles. And the manager on duty seemed to be quite the "beer nerd", knowledgeable about the beers and the breweries, and very cognizant of trying to keep a good variety of types available. Reasonable prices ($5.50-$7 a pint) and $1 off them all during their happy hour, which runs every day. The only thing that keeps Foster's Grille from being 5 stars is value of food for the price. All of the food is very good, and the wings are a bit more equitably priced than their sandwiches, but everything is just a tad on the pricy side. They do have great daily specials, happy hour food specials, and run specials through Coupon Clipper frequently. But if you're walking in off the street - expect to pay $10-11 or so for a cheeseburger, fries, and soda - and more if you go crazy with specialty toppings. (For example, a burger adding bacon, melted cheese spread, and fried onions was somewhere in the $8-9 range ... just for the burger.) In the end, I'll mostly be coming back here for the beer. For "Beer Hunters" looking for a small, casual, quaint drafthouse with good food, this Foster's is a surprisingly excellent choice. The previous reviewer said that if you like burgers, this place will probably make you happy. I am not a big burger-eater, but every now and then, I have those carnivorous cravings. Foster's did not make me too happy. First of all, 1/2 lb. burgers are way too big and, therefore, difficult to cook properly. In fact, mine had quite a bit of pink in it, and I didn't ask for medium or medium rare (they didn't give me the option). The fries were nicely cut but over fried and greasy. Salads are clearly an afterthought here. My wife's grilled chicken salad had limp lettuce flavorless large tomato wedges. The atmosphere was nice -- kind of like a pub, but you have to go up and order at the counter, and then they bring it out to you. read more

My burger craving kicks in once every few months or so. When it does, I head to Foster's. None of that "Let's see, there's Five Guys, Fudd's...or we could always go to such-and-such American grill and bar..." crap. It's Foster's every time. I think my husband appreciates my decisiveness, too. The atmosphere is laid-back, warm and family-friendly. I find that the customer service at this particular location is, well, meh but since Foster's has somewhat of a "fast food" ordering system (aka no servers), it's not enough of a con to keep me from getting my burger fix. When I approach the counter and grab an order pad and mini golf pencil, there's always a split second where I stop and consider getting a fried chicken sandwich or beef hot dog instead (both of which are REALLY good.) Then I come to my senses and go with the burger. My meal is always hot, fresh and awesome. The burgers have a nice, chargrilled taste reminiscent of family bbqs from my childhood, back before gas grills took over. The fries are crispy but not overly greasy and taste even better when doused with vinegar. Foster's also serves beer and will usually have one or two decent microbrews on tap (my husband ordered Dominion's Oktoberfest last time we went.) Add in the flat-screen tvs they have stationed around the restaurant and you're set for a lazy Sunday afternoon. The only reason why this location gets a star knocked off is because of the service. The cashiers/wait staff is always friendly but the managers never seem to acknowledge us in any way. If they kicked up the warmth just a tad, Foster's would get a consistent 5 star rating from me. read more

I was excited about coming to Foster's because I'd heard about how much better it was than Five Guys. I wanted to love Foster's, I really did. But I've decided that Five Guys still wins. Five Guy's burgers are tastier, cheaper, and the fries are much better. Foster's have a wider selection of burger options, and the decor is nicely done (definitely targeting guys with all the car related stuff everywhere). They serve up a range of beers and I think they have happy hour each day, but can't be sure. The downside is that they only allow one refill on drinks (dentists and other health advocates would probably be happy about that one though). read more

I finally took the plunge and tried their Salmon Burger that they have on special every-so-often... I do not recommend. It's simply just a frozen patty, tasteless. Foster's is a go-to place for Happy Hour. My colleagues and I have become sort of regulars here during the week. The staff is great. The location is nice and even though it gets a bit crowded during the week after 6pm, it never feels really cramped. If you download the BeerMenus app on your phone you can follow the different beers Foster's has on tap each week in real time. It's great because it will list the prices of each beer based on size (4 ounces all the way to 16 ounces). They usually have at least 18 beers on tap at any given time and they replace them with new ones weekly. The food is a great compliment too. Big menu that includes bone/boneless wings, burgers, fries, hot dogs, cheese steaks, salads, and milkshakes. You really can't go wrong. read more

This is probably one of my most favorite Foster's in the area. It is clean and well run. They specialize in burger, but have things like wings, and chicken sandwiches. When you walk into Foster's you get a notepad and fill out what you want and all the toppings you want on your burger or sandwich. Then you hand your slip to the cashier and they ring you up and bring your food to your table for you. Most of the Foster's restaurants have a couple of video games too so bring some quarters if you or the kids want to play. The fries are pretty decent too. This location has outdoor seating as well. This place was highly enough rated that we decided to try it out based on the reviews here. The place was empty so we waltzed in and ordered burgers. The wait for food was fine, the food itself was awful. The burgers were all terrible, worse than a fast food burger. All three burgers were not fully cooked and horrendous tasting, the outside was slightly cooked and the entire inside was a red pink of uncooked meat. I've had greater success with frozen burgers at a grocery store which these almost certainly were. Also there was grease from the burger all over the basket. I didn't finish my burger. The fries were nothing to write home about. I'm not sure how you can compare these burgers to anything like five guys as they are more akin to a bad Burger King. I won't knock the food here, but my wife and I gave up on this place completely after numerous visits where even though the palce was nearly empty it took twenty or thirty minutes to get our food. As we would sit stewing, we'd watch employees taking breaks in the empty restaurant sipping sodas and chatting as our stomachs grumbled. Things I've had here- Grilled Chicken Salad Grilled Chicken Sandwhich Kid's Grilled Cheese Only thing that saves the place is the grilled cheese. Salads are limp and look prepackaged and loaded in the fridge. The chicken items take forever to grill, and while I appreciate fresh cooked food, they need more staff to keep up with the lunch crowd. Sandwich is just ok- nothing fantab to point out. Now, the grilled cheese- TO DIE FOR. Nice pieces of sourdough bread, lighly toasted, with all the cheese yummi-ness spilling out the sides. I was staying at the hotel next door and decided to walk over and get a quick bite. The place was steady but not busy on a Monday, however I was a little disappointed to see that with no one waiting at the counter to order that there were 3 tables that were still dirty from previous customers. I ordered the Original Charburger and fries. The fries and burger come in the same basket. There is a very generous portion of fries although, the slightly cooler temperature of them suggests that they were done before the burger. The burger was well done, I'm not sure there is an option on this. The toppings were nice and the flavor of burger and bun were pleasant. This is a quick burger and fry joint. Ordered a burger and hot dog with fries, to go, no drinks. I was the only one in there, it was 8:45 but still I was surprised! They charge $.60 for cheese....who charges for cheese these days?! I have never paid for cheese here so I was a little taken back. It took about 20 minutes, kinda a long time for burger and hot dog.... Got home, opened the hot dog container and the hot dog was burned to a crisp, the fries were burned, way overdone and so crunchy, I couldnt even eat them. I had to peel off all the burned parts of the hot dog to eat it., My friends burger was good, her fries were overcooked and super crispy, she threw them out. Awful. I've had better meals in a public school cafeteria. I've never seen a place fail so hard at the basics. Burgers, fries, milkshakes. Two shakes, two burgers and 1 order of fries cost us $30. I ordered a 1/4 burger while my girlfriend ordered one from the kids menu. We ended up with identical burgers (bun, patty, everything), skewing heavily toward the smaller size. I either paid $8 for the equivalent of something you'd find in a Happy Meal or the kids running the place are completely incompetent. You pick. I'm not even upset about the cost. It was waiting almost 30 minutes for inedible takeout that really bothered me. The 'burgers' were charbroiled slices of construction paper served on a stale bun. Go to Five Guys, order some fries and steam them for 10 minutes and you're there. The $5 'thick' shakes didn't resemble anything related to a dairy product and I couldn't get through more than a few BITES of my Pepto special. Thank god I had to foresight to sample the food in the car before venturing home. Not to seek retribution with the apathetic staff, but so that I could pick up a Ledo's pizza after trashing Foster's shame. read more

Was visiting from Cali and this place came highly recommended by my brother who lives in Va. Burgers were pretty tasty and the toppings were all crispy and fresh and the fries were golden and crunchy. We also ordered some wings and I really enjoyed those as well. Have been to this location twice now. Need to have their burger a few more times but this is what I have for now. Very friendly staff, nice atmosphere, great specials during the week. Very good wings. Nice and meaty and not overly sauced which makes them soggy. Go during dinner and have the wings dine in for a discounted price. My burger had a very nice flavor from the char-grilling. However, it was on the dry side and could have used a little more flavor ( salt & pepper ) The toppings were fine and the bun was of good quality. The ordering system takes some time to get used to for newbies, but it makes sense once you become familiar with this joint. I just recently discovered Fosters Grille because my husband kept insisting that I try it. My first experience in Haymarket, VA was great--too bad I can't say the same for this particular Foster's Grille. They actually served me a hamburger cut in half and proceeded to explain that it was their normal process when they are really busy. Wow! Of course, I returned the hamburger and received another one that was pink inside and was not how I had orginally ordered it. Had driven by a few times but had not noticed the place. Checked the menu online and went in. The place was not busy, and it looked modern and clean. We were not sure if we had to wait to be seated; seeing we were lost, a waiter advised us how to order and seat ourselves. We ordered chicken tenderloins, wings, and a charburger. The food was great, not greasy, and tasty. The home made fries were particularly good. Although the prices are on the high end for this type of joint, it was worth it. Pricey, but great food and service. I've been here twice and each time, I left full and satisfied. The burgers are great. I also tried the steak and cheese. Initially, I looked at it and was ticked that it was teensy. But it's SUPER filling. So size doesn't matter, LOL. The place is clean and you won't mind leisurely eating your food here. I guess it's a great place for kids, because there were tons of them in there both times I went. I really like the fries here. They are boardwalk fries, so they go great with malt vinegar.
