To start with the most important note: many of the menus you'll find online are out-of-date. The one at https://fosterstavern.com/food-menu/ is correct. On to the review: Pretty good food, but this is actually a Tavern, not a restaurant. This isn't a place *not* for children, but it's also not a place for children. Expect patrons to be loud, but not intrusive. The service is fast, thought it helps that the place was nearly empty on a Saturday night. The fried pickles were a highlight. I often find most places serve them too hot to eat right away, but these were great. The burgers were good, but nothing special. I'd have the Guinness burger again, but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way for it. I will give the place points for looking really nice on the inside. read more

Just stopped here for a bite while passing through town. I like the eclectic decor. Not a lot of choices on the menu if you have food intolerances. But I rolled the dice and ordered a couple of tacos without cheese (Taco Tuesday special). They were pilled high with a street corn style topping. It was very messy but good. Just ask for extra napkins. My husband ordered a burger with fries. The patty seemed to be chopped and sautéed with red onion. He didn't mind that and said it was good. Just be aware if you want an intact patty that you may need to ask for it to be prepared that way, lol! Fries were great! There was only one person working the bar and tables but she hustled and was very helpful and friendly. Food took a while to come out so I assume they were short in the kitchen as well. I had the good fortune to hike and explore the New River Gorge National Park several weeks ago. (True gem-Check it out) After our second day and 27k steps we were ravenous! Instead of driving all the way home we decided to eat in Beckley. I researched our dining options online and called Foster's as we literally flew around the mountain roads. (I almost passed out riding shotgun) Matt answered and was very friendly. He explained they were open from 5-9 for dinner and served american cuisine. We arrived at 5:15 in a driving rain and were able to park directly across the street from F's. Upon entering, Matt cheerily greeted us, and gave us menus. The decor was eclectic with the combination of local photos, beer signs, Oil signs, College pennants, and movie posters. It also has 3 floors, with the basement and loft serving as billiard/gaming areas. The menu is very simple offering 5 varieties of burgers and wings. Our order follows: Blue cheese burger, Bella burger (bbq), and 3 orders of 5 wings (blue cheese with wing sauce, ranch with wing sauce, and hot wings). We requested all drums and the cook fulfilled it. It took awhile for our food to arrive but it was definitely worth the wait. Everything was beyond tasty and we had an elegant sufficiency. Found this online while staying in Ghent, WV. Made the drive in a winter storm and didn't regret it! Friendly staff member made sure we had any questions answered. Took the time to explain why they weren't currently serving what we actually set out to eat that evening. We were initially disappointed that we found an older menu online with different items; but, we went with wings and the fries loaded with cheese, bacon and sour cream. Yum! You can't go wrong with that! The fries were huge and enough for two people and we were extra thankful the gentleman gave us that info beforehand. The old style atmosphere with stained glass and dark wood was unique and helped me fall in love with the place--I loved the "cheers" type atmosphere. We stopped at Beckley for the night due to it being half way to Pinehurst from Cincinnati. To start the building on the outside and inside had a really cool vibe and neat decor. We sat at the bar and the young lady tending bar took our drink order immediately. The choices were basic but solid. She answered our questions and steered us towards the wings and pork Mojo tacos. I wasn't sure about the sauces so went with the vampire (garlic and medium). The food came out and this is where our experience turned from good to great. The tacos were huge with tons of mouth watering pork. Absolutely delicious. The wing were also done perfectly and the size was good. I like my sauce hotter so when I asked Kenny, who made our food, for something spicier he suggested the Chernobyl sauce. This is a sauce he makes from scratch. It may be the BEST wing sauce I have ever had. It was hot but it had an amazing Smokey flavor. It was so good my wife put it on her tacos. FANTASTIC sauce Kenny! It was such a pleasure to visit with you. We then met Gary who was also sitting at the bar. Gary is a local artist who does some cool canvas work but he also grows peppers for the restaurant and makes hot sauce for them. He could not have been nicer and really informative to talk with about his sauce recipes. Now I am a southern boy so I know hospitality, but the fact Gary walked back to his home to bring me a bottle of his homemade cayenne pepper sauce left me speechless and humbled. Thank you Mr Gary! Yes! Traveling south on 77 for a week away. Took a 2 Mile detour into Beckley for a quick dinner . Pleasant service , happy hour drink prices . This is a very friendly bar and restaurant in historic dpwntown Beckley with a good draft beer and liquor selection and professional bartenders. until the kitchen closes at 10 they serve real food, not just bar stuff. We stopped while traveling and I went with the Reuben suggestion, both from Yelp & server. It was delicious, meat wasn't dried out and the flavor was great. Husband had Blu cheese burger and fries and enjoyed it. The fried ravioli was not the best, a tad overcooked and just stuffed with cheese, not much flavor to it. Service was good, we were checked on periodically which I appreciate. Didn't wait long for food and atmosphere was nice. Would stop again if traveling this way again. read more

We stopped at Fosters from a referral from our hotel staff in Beckley. What a great bar and grill location right on Downtown Main Street. How surprised were we when we had the food! The wings were some of the best we had in years and the hamburgers are delicious....and, top that off with exceptional attention and service from Jordan, our server. We were on the road for 3 weeks, and hands down, she was the best server we encountered in all that time. She also turned out to be a great dog lover and treated our pup with overflowing attention. We already have Fosters on our itinerary when we return to the area.......highly recommended! read more
