Stopped on the way to Pittsburgh with my sister, Michele. TDC was rated high and happens to be close to my MILs house in Beaver. I was surprised to find it in the same building as a Dollar General. We ordered firecracker shrimp as a starter and Michele got the Chicken Parmesan with a side salad and I ordered a Porketta sandwich, which is marinaded pork tenderloin, with a side salad and BC dressing. Everything from walking in to walking out was great! Emily, our waitress was amazing! We weren't going to get an appetizer, but she suggested the buffalo shrimp. We gave it a try and loved it! The buffalo shrimp had bacon and green onions and was served on blue cheese dressing. For entrees, we had a Cobb salad with grilled chicken and the roasted porketta with sweet potato fries. I can't even explain the porketta, it was like a flavor explosion - one of the best meals I've ever had. We're only in town for a few days, but definitely plan on a few more meals there. read more

Wow, what an amazing find in the hills of WVa. (That's insulting to the locals so I apologize.) I ordered the falafel pita with a side of house made chips and a dip of the house made hummus. The falafel were wonderful and highly recommended. This wasn't my favorite hummus, not as much flavor as I like. Needs lots more lemon but that's my taste. Beautiful pita. RRR tried the chicken lettuce wrap and loved it. I tried a bite of the chicken mixture and it was really great. The Sticky Toffee Bread Pudding was just too tempting so that had to be tasted. Went to The Dish Cafe for Sunday brunch after some hiking. The reviews were pretty good- but it was not good for me or my dining partners. We were seated in the bar area- and the barrel chairs were comfy- but it was quite dark and didn't really feel like brunch-time dining. Service was ok- everyone was nice. The food was just not good. At all. Two of us had eggs Benedict- which in my opinion- succeeds or fails on the hollandaise. This was a failure- the hollandaise tasted of mustard and not much else. The ham (Canadian bacon) was tough- it seemed overcooked and it took some effort to saw through the poached egg-ham-English muffin. My fruit side was the best thing I ate there (so that's good for the fruit-not so good for the rest of the food). The waffle side was a typical hotel-made waffle- meh. The biscuits and gravy had virtually no flavor except salt. The biscuit alone was also not good- cold and dense. The over easy egg side was cooked more to over medium. The cheese fries for a starter were also not good. The fries were undercooked with mounds of cheese on top. I generally love French fries- but these were a no-go. This was certainly a disappointment- and if I lived in the area- I would likely not return- ever. :( read more

We enjoyed our visit at The Dish. The farm to table concept is executed perfectly. We started with fresh made pork rinds. They came out literally still cracklin. We had the pleasure of tasting the Steak and Eggs. My companion had the Eggs Benedict. We finished with the Avocado Brownie and a scoop of ice cream. Every thing was delicious. Service was great! Comfortable captain chairs! The burger was delicious! The Dish claims to be a local restaurant with the people favorites! They won a few local awards in past years and have a very tasty Hey Jack Burger. I was very disappointed they ran out of sweet potatoes fries and the family's recipe of Reese's peanut butter pie. We were passing through WV and knew this is where we had to stop. Where to start?! Non alcoholic drink menu is fun (love when a Shirley temple is on the menu). Everything was SO fresh. The salad dressing (honey Dijon) was the absolute standout, I wish I could buy a bottle! Mac and cheese was adult and toddler approved - another standout! Menu prices are so reasonable for what you get- i live in a southern foodie city and would have easily paid double for my trout fish back home. But then I took home the GF Blondie and my night was made. I am GF for health reasons but not celiac and had so many options on the menu. The kitchen was busy this night with a private group, so service was a little slow, but honestly yall- worth the wait. We were headed into town to try and find something decent, and we stumbled across a phenomenal find! Doesn't look like much from the road, and inside it isn't fancy, but the food was delicious! They have a really great menu with a wide variety of food. Super fresh, very flavorful and well presented. The service was attentive and friendly. Prices were well within reason too. We dined here for lunch/brunch after visiting the nearby-ish exhibition coal mine museum. This place came highly recommended by Yelpers, so I was excited to visit. It's located in a small strip mall but has a nicer vibe/atmosphere than you might assume given the neighboring dollar store, haha. The interior is spacious with a nice big bar and a good amount of seating. They weren't super busy but it was a Sunday around 1 PM so presumably the brunch crowd had died down some. The vibe felt a little incomplete/muddled to me -- couldn't tell if it was trying to give off more breakfast/lunch atmosphere or more upscale dinner atmosphere. I'm not really sure how to describe it but it just didn't really gel for me. My rating is mostly for the food -- I don't think about ambiance that much generally -- but just something to be aware of if that's a big deal to you. The women's restroom was clean, so that's good. Service was neither spectacular nor mediocre; it was adequate and I don't really have much else to say about it. After perusing the menu, husband and I decided the brunch offerings actually sounded the most appealing. My parents split a grilled cheese and tomato soup and also got some house chips with ranch for dipping. My husband got chicken and waffles with potatoes and I got some kind of breakfast combo that came with scrambled eggs, bacon, and a waffle. None of the food was bad, but we all felt it was aggressively average. The best thing was the chips with housemade ranch. My eggs were a little over-hard for my preference but I understand cooking scrambled eggs that way. The 2 bacon strips were average. The waffle was fine but no better than the waffle I could make in the morning at the hotel we stayed at. Same with my husband's. The chicken for his chicken and waffles was in the form of strips. This isn't entirely uncommon but generally he prefers whole pieces of fried chicken. The lemonade I drank tasted like watered down Minute Maid. One big positive was we thought the pricing was very reasonable. I dunno. Again, nothing was bad per se, just hoping for a whole lot more given the reviews and accolades. On a roadtrip to VA from OH, you don't expect to find a fabulous cafe with clean eats and tons of vegetarian options, but that's exactly what we stumbled into in WV recently! We actually loved the Dish Cafe so much that we returned to eat there again on our way back up to Ohio. The food was tasty, fresh and wholesome - no potential bathroom issues to derail our roadtrip. The first visit, I had the falafel and bestie had the veggie burger. Both were great but I would have loved more veggies and more sauce on the falafel. We both had the sweet potato fries which were SUPERB - like best ever. On our return trip, we both had the veggie burger and sweet potato fries, plus another companion had a delicious salad. Then, we tried the sticky toffee bread pudding which was out of this world good. Bottom line, this place is open 7 days a week and is an absolute treasure. We were so hungry that we scarfed our food down then had another long wait before finally seeing the waitress to ask for the check. It ended up being just shy of two hours spent there. An unassuming restaurant in a small strip mall. Inside a few tables were occupied. Nondescript interior. Greeted quickly and seated. Drink order taken immediately. Wife (a bit of a wine snob) found a glass of Echo Bay Sauvignon Blanc, which seemed refreshing. We got a pretzel appetizer with pimento cheese and queso. Pretzels were quite good as well as was the queso. The pimento cheese could have been a bit sharper. Wife had the black bean burger and found this excellent as was the edamame salad. I had the chicken parm with a side salad. The latter was generous siz. The chicken was coated in corn meal and had great crunch without drying out. As the pasta had Alfredo sauce, the chicken would have been better to be separated and given a bit more pasta sauce. The price point was very reasonable for what we got. We are from a bigger northern city and so I feel I can judge restaurants somewhat. You can go to a restaurant for food, decor or occasionally both. People, Beckley is a small town working to survive. To have a very good product I expect a clean restaurant with nice people and good food I'm satisfied. Not sure what the expectation is for here Michelin stars? Chipotle chicken was fantastic. Service was quick. Place has a steakhouse and bar vibe with some southern charm. I don't recommend the porketta. Was dry and seemed like it lacked a sauce. This is a farm to table kinda place. It offered a variety of food offerings. The service is consistent and dependable. I usually get the Pimento BLT or the Hey Jack Burger. It has a nice quiet feel to it and seems really inviting! It's more of a lunch spot for me, However, it's got good food and a steady and consistent dinner crowd. We had a nice little dessert as well. We were staying nearby for the night, and found The Dish listed on Yelp! with good reviews. Thankfully they were open after we drove up and down and around the mountain to get there! Despite the full parking lot and it being a Friday night, we were promptly seated. Hubby ordered his usual unsweetened iced tea with lots of lemon, and I'm glad the Saranac Ginger Beer caught my attention, because it tasted like drinking a ginger snap cookie, yum! The Chicken Parmesan Pasta with a side salad was Hubby's choice, and I picked the Cajun Shrimp over Creamy Polenta with the Edamame, Craisins and Feta for a side. Service was a bit slow, and the restaurant filled up while we were there. The food was delicious and we both savored our choices. Tried Dish Cafe on a late Friday afternoon. Maybe 5 tables had patrons. Ordered hot wi gs and a burger. The wings were on par with all other wings I've had but the burger was probably the best I haver ever had. It was a house burger with pepper jack cooked medium rare. Out of this world flavor. The wife had the pecan trout with brussel sprouts. It was really good also. The hummus is made there not mass produced and shipped in a container. It came with pita wedges and artichoke hearts. Definitely going back. There's things on menu that I hafta try. read more
