We were seated at what had to be the smallest table in the restaurant, right next to the window. My chair was nearly touching the person's behind me. Mind you, the restaurant was not packed, but they seated us in between two tables when there were at least 6 other open tables in the room. Server was quick, friendly. I ordered breadsticks, not realizing that they provide bread for the table (I made the assumption they didn't based on the menu having bread and breadsticks listed). The breadsticks were a very odd texture - seemed doughy but they were not undercooked, lots of butter & garlic. I had the stuffed shells for my entree. My salad consisted of lettuce and cut up tomatoes (which I hate), nothing more. Therefore I had lettuce with my French dressing. The entree came out quickly and looked great. However, the ricotta on the inside of the stuffed shells was super creamy and not very tasty. The sauce was ok, not sweet enough for my liking, but not bad either. The shells themselves were al dente, but seemed chewy. My husband had the shrimp cocktail, which he enjoyed. He ordered the chicken parm with spaghetti as his side. The chicken parm looked great, but seemed to be a frozen chicken patty that was deep fried and drenched in sauce/mozzarella. The spaghetti was pretty good. Overall, meh. Won't be back, but we had something to eat and supported local not a franchise so there's that. read more

My wife and I tried this restaurant while on vacation and it was great. The portions are pretty good size. The restaurant is very clean, and the food has amazing flavor. Just No. Quality is not good here. The garlic bread ordered was burnt and lacked any garlicky ness. No free complimentary bread received. My blue cheese dressing was weak and there was too much of it. The quality of the mozzarella was not melted enough nor was my florentine shells even hot enough. My hubby's meat ravioli had some kind of meaty paste like filling and the ravioli itself was way too al dente. We came here on a recommendation and regretted it. American Italian joint in a small town. We stopped through for dinner on a long road trip home. Reasons why it didn't get a higher rating-- wrong pasta used (clearly not bronze cut- some cheap white looking stuff that did not hold the sauce well), too much salt on that eggplant parmesan that made the dish hard to finish, and it was clear as minorities, we stood out like sore thumbs with folks staring at us. Pasta- we called the spaghetti that came alongside the eggplant parmesan. The pasta again was some cheap white stuff that was kind of gross. The sauce was a normal house marinara thing. It wasn't a bad sauce actually- tangy and flavorful but the pasta ruined this dish. The eggplant parmesan was not bad when it was hot and we were starving but clearly salty by the time you were in bite number 4. it was hard to finish which is why they paired it with a spaghetti but bc the spaghetti was also a disappointment this combo was difficult to eat overall. the pizza actually wasn't bad. The crust isn't thin but if you're a cheesy mozzarella person then this is your type of pizza. Service- somewhat on the slower end and the staff looked harried. Nothing egregious of course but definitely bring some entertainment. Again, being minority this wasn't my top choice to stop through as we invited lots of glances and stares, but the Japanese steak house place down the street was too full and I'm not sure if we would be pleased with that quality of food either (likely americanized). read more

It's an okay dinner. I did enjoy my salad that was dressed well with an Italian dressing. My entree was less stellar. I got the Chicken Masala. I got, as my side, pasta which I assumed would come on the side. Instead the chicken was served on the pasta. Because of this, the breading on the chicken didn't adhere as well as it could have. Also, I was expecting the sauce to be savory but it was slightly sweet. I'm not sure why. That didn't work for me. read more

Working our way to Charlotte and then Florida, we found ourselves overnighting in Beckley, West Virginia. The hotel recommended Pasquale's for dinner and I'm glad I listened. We were quickly seated without reservations on what turned out to be a pretty busy night. I looked at the wine list and was happily surprised by both the quality of the offerings but also the pricing. While most restaurants seem to mark wine up 3 to 4 times retail pricing, the mark up here seemed much less perhaps just over 2X. The menu is classic Italian with many varieties of pasta and sauces. In the mood for spaghetti , I read no further. My spaghetti with meatballs and meat sauce was excellent. My wife's spaghetti with marinara sauce was just as good. Entrees also came with a nice salad. Service was excellent and our server packaged our remaining wine so we could enjoy it back at our hotel. I enjoy finding local, non chain restaurants when traveling. read more

The food was good too they had a lot of options on their menu. This is walking distance to the Fairfield Inn so if you don't feel like trekking too far this place is certainly worth checking out. Stopped by here at Pasquale's -- close to Ghent, WV where we were staying -- as I wanted to carb load the day before my race, a half marathon trail run, and I wanted an Italian spot w/ pasta. Pasquale's checked all the boxes, and it's right off the highway so great location. Parking wise, huge lot, and we came around busy time Friday evening, so we had a half hour wait time. Got seating inside and ambiance was perfect. Remind me of an Italian villa. Very cozy and pretty cool. So I don't usually rate 5 stars, this time I have to. Food was perfect. It's the best Italian food I've ever had, in my life. Ravioli for appetizer, it was amazing. Rocked my socks off. I struggled to not finish everything. Marinara was awesome. Garlic bread was perfectly salted. I got Chicken Penne, as it was low fat high carb and moderate protein, perfect for carb loading for my race next day morning. My dad got Fettuccini Alfredo w/ shrimp and he said it was nothing great, too bland for his palate. I got w/ mixed salad on side, with Italian dressing, wow was that amazing. Probably best salad I've had, lol. Sucked when it was over. OMG the Chicken Penne has to be the single great Italian dish I've ever had, in my life of 30+ years. I don't usually eat out Italian, but I know good food good taste when I have it, and this was basically heaven on a plate. What stood out to me, the sun dried tomatoes, eating w the chicken and pasta, it was so sublime, I had to take time to chew slowly and savor that remarkable taste. Overall this has to be the single greatest Italian food I've ever had hands down, if not best food of all time for me. I Thank God that I still have working taste buds. Taste buds help, guys. Family has not been there in two years, arrived at 1230 pm, family of 5, we didn't leave until 145pm. Extremely poor service, we ordered, waitress brought our drinks and took our order. The time between drinks and food was over 30 minutes, dishes were piled on our table, our food arrived, needed to ask for dressing, refills of drinks, waited for our bill and take home food containers. We paid our bill, another waitress was at an empty table cleaning up, not our waitress. I asked if she was the manager, she replied no and was there a problem, I commented on our service, she replied they were short staffed due to 2 parties that day. My wife and I chose Pasquale's for a late dinner on a pass thru Beckley and were not disappointed! They have a lovely dining room and a very nice, well-landscaped patio. It was 90 degrees and humid so we chose to dine indoors. But we had a view of the patio. They have a selection of beer and wine. They've got a tiny bar and serve liquor but don't have a cocktail menu. We ordered a Merlot and a cab, both good. She ordered the lobster ravioli special and I had the lasagna. Both were very good, full of flavor. Lots of lobster in the ravioli. The house salad was lacking... just a bowl of iceberg lettuce with some diced tomatoes and dressing. Not our first time here. Boy has this place gone down in terms of food quality. The salad I had was literally swimming in dressing. The huge plate of pasta with scampi was tasteless, with few little shrimp which seemed to be frozen and overcooked. The complementary little basket of bread before the meal was cold and the butter was cold so it was almost impossible to spread it on. The appetizer (they call it antipasto) which the waitress described as a charcuterie board, was nothing but. It was a bunch of some little cut up corn, cherry and banana peppers and olives all from a jar (normally used in a salad), some sliced salami on a bed of salad!! Never heard of such a thing! Another plate of baked ziti had a slab of melted cheese on top. All this overpriced, but mostly tasteless. This is not Italian cuisine!! Better stay away from this place. So I was very happy that the reviews and the hotel recommendations were spot on. I had the pleasure of being seated in Grace's area and she was what took the rating to a 5 Star. She had a great interaction and she made the meal enjoyable. I ordered the tortellini. Al forno with meatballs and it was baked perfectly. The dish came with a salad and bread and they were just the right complement to the meal. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, it serves indoor and an outdoor patio. Although I sat inside, the outside looked very nice and had a lot of room. I highly recommend this place and I encourage everyone to look for Grace when they stop bye. I have been coming here for food since 2001, I have to admit I was good friends with the owner at that time. It has since changed hands and I will say the food is still amazing. I love the chicken piccata here and the bread sticks are just so perfect, crispy outside soft on the inside. Covered in garlic butter. Yum I drove out of my way between Hilton Head SC to Cincinnati to bring a friend here for lunch. He really enjoyed his food as well. I will say this, unless you eat a lot or want to take it home, split your meal or you will fall asleep on the drive home like my friend did in the passenger seat. I highly recommend this. We were visiting from out of town and asked the bartender and front desk hotel staff if this restaurant was a good place to eat. Everyone said yes and it was owned by a local family. We went for dinner on a Saturday evening around 7:00. We had to wait for about 20 minutes for seating, not bad since I have waited longer at other places. We ordered appetizers which included mozzarella sticks and calamari. Both were excellent. The marinara sauce was not very acidic and you could tell it was homemade. My husband usually gets heartburn from tomato sauce but did not get heartburn from dinner. I wanted to order the Eggplant Parmesan and was very disappointed to learn they were all out. So I ordered the shrimp scampi instead which was more cream based then I am used to but still good. Everyone enjoyed the garlic toast. My stepson ordered the steak. He was disappointed and would only rate it a 3 star because he said it was bland and needed more seasoning. Otherwise, the spaghetti and sauce everyone else had were enjoyed by all. My husband ordered the pizza and he gives it a 5. The dough was crunchy, the vegetables were not soggy and the meat was flavorful. He ordered it with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms and banana peppers. Service is excellent, it was really to a standard that I haven't experienced for years. The service is the reason the review is 4 stars instead of 3; the food was good but not as good as the service and atmosphere promised. The best thing we ate was my pizza- it was very good, with a crust that had just the right balance between crispy and chewy. The rest of the family ordered pasta and they were underwhelmed. I've heard for months about Pasquale's and how it has been open for fifty-five years. I received several personal recommendations for it- about how awesome it was. There have been a very small few establishments in Beckley that are were very surprisingly good, so I hoped I'd find the same at Pasquale's. Far from it. The server was nice, the building and furnishing were more than pleasant. It the food was soundly below mediocre. At BEST. I opted for the lasagna- something surely a business open for half a century with a standing excellent reputation should be able to craft. It was accompanied by a small salad. Along that I asked for a meatball to get a feeling for what they think that should be. Finally, I ordered a half loaf of garlic bread as an appetizer. The garlic bread arrived wrapped in a cloth napkin in a basket, with grease saturating the napkin. That isn't necessarily a bad initial observation, but opening the napkin was bread super-saturated with garlic butter. It was not crisp at all, it has no cheese. It was simple a limp butter sponge cut in eighths. I ate half of it until I asked myself "Why are you ingesting this?" and stopped. It WAS garlicky- but it was obscene. The salted was small, fresh and good, because it is extremely hard to mess up a salad unless you are actually trying. Then, the "lasagna" arrived. What lay before me was something slathered with cheese in a Welsh rarebit dish. It was hot, and I could make out the shape of the meatball, so I dived into it. Removing the cheese covering- which I identified as provolone, the meatball was large and showing no outer browning. This was a classic presentation, and it was tender and flavorful in the puddle of rich tomato and meat sauce. Downing that, I turned to the main course only a fork away. But I kept looking. Looking for anything I resembled as lasagna. Forking through the thick layer of cheese, I managed to find ONE noodle. ONE, swimming in meat sauce. No ricotta, no layering. Nothing. In the annals of Italian restaurants, AND the frozen section of any grocery, it was no only a ripoff, but a sacrament to the intended dish. Frankly, it sucked. This Pasquale's place MUST be a front for something, to be appointed and groomed as it is, yet serve trash like I received. For fifty-five years? A $16 frozen pan of Stouffers lasagna is 1000% percent better than the meat sauce soup with a noodle I was served. I think actually that they make it to order in the dish- with noodle(s) precooked, slop in some sauce, grab a noodle, more sauce, cover it with provolone and shove it under a salamander. Again, no layers, nothing but sauce. I won't be back. Ever. I'm not mad, but I'm wondering what the hell is going on. read more

Got takeout here on a Sunday night while driving through town. We'd been road tripping and I was happy to finally not eat at someplace with a drive thru and this fit the bill, though there were some areas that could use improvement. The good: Everyone here was really nice. From the person who took our order to the gal who brought the order out to me and took my payment, and all the staff I encountered in between. I stopped inside to pick up and the restaurant itself looked nice, very spacious, clean, and comfortable. If we didn't have our dogs with us back at the hotel it would have been a nice place to sit down and have a meal. The portions are HUGE for the price. I got the chicken parmesan and it was a massive container filled with a ton of pasta, tasty marinara, and two huge chicken pieces. My husband was waffling between the 10 inch pizza and the 14inch. And let me tell you, they round those inches up. He was afraid 10 inch may be too small so he got the 14 and it was MASSIVE. Way too much food for just himself (cold breakfast for pizza, anyone?). The not as good: Overall the food is good. In my dish the pasta was perfectly al dente and the marinara had a nice flavor. The only disappointment was the chicken. It's not a proper chicken breast as far as I could tell, but a processed cutlet. It reminded me a bit of the chicken I'd get in my lean cuisine meals, previously frozen, a little spongy, you can see some air bubbles in it, etc. It didn't taste BAD but it could have been great with a real pounded out, breaded chicken cutlet. The salad starter I also had was your typical iceberg salad, again, could have gone another level up with even a few spring greens in there. The ranch was on point, tho! We also got an order of the breadsticks. I thought they might be kind of coated in a garlic butter or something but they were just regular old bread baked in the rough shape of sticks. I was slightly disappointed until I took a bite. They were warm and had soft and had great flavor. But they forgot our marinara dipping sauce. Once again, an addition of that sauce or a bit of a garlic basting would have knocked it up even more. So overall it was as a GOOD meal but I could see the potential here for a GREAT meal with a little more finesse in the ingredients. But overall we enjoyed what we got, though I may not be rushing back here next time I pass through town. read more
