    Fouche's Hudson Funeral Home
    Carol C.

Date: 12/7/2023 Time: 11:15 AM 62° Rain Fouche's Hudson Funeral Home is well known in North Oakland and among the black community. I have been to this funeral home many years ago, as in 2005, when one of my classmates passed away. However, several of my high school classmates and I were here for a celebration of life yesterday. It was a classmate's dad who passed away. The late J. Moore indeed left a legacy for all to remember. I never knew he was a music producer for Sugar Pie DeSanto. He traveled the world and knew and worked with singers like Aretha Franklin, John Lee Hooker, Big Mama Thornton, Buddy Guy, et al. The program for this service was beautiful and uplifting. The singer (Vanessa) performed two gospel songs. One of the songs was I Know the Lord Will Make A Way. Such a loving and spiritual song that I was clapping my hands, foot was tapping and my body was moving to the rhythm. Fouche's professional staff were caring and empathetic to all who attended this service. For those of us grieving, they accommodated us. Love, faith, hope, strength, comfort and peace are what each of us classmates and friends of the Moore Family can hold onto in our lives. I shedded a few tears, but my heart was rejoicing because Jimmy's dad was called home to be with our Father.

To accommodate outside, covid friendly services. Thank you, Fouche's!

Having come to Fouche's countless times throughout my life, this week I attended my first funeral during this Covid era. The service was outside, seating was limited to 25 but we were allowed to use the restroom facilities inside the funeral home. The staff was amazing, period. Once we arrived we were greeted with smiles and hellos and advised we could be seated, or stand until service began. The staff provided each person with tissues in a ziplock back and get this, hand warmers for those who didn't think to bring gloves...who does that?! During the service, one of the staff persons was responsible for overseeing the service. Each time someone spoke at the podium, the staff person wiped the entire area including the microphone; I literally mean each and every time, no exceptions. Once the service was over, the staff person gave instructions on how to prepare for those you planned to be part of the brocade to the internment site. Very well done, Fouche's. You remain a pillar of Oakland and when I was told the service would be at Fouche's, my anxiety was immediately put to rest. Your institution has maintained a good reputation over the decades and thank you so much for allowing us to celebrate and grieve with dignity, despite the restrictions we all have to currently adhere to.

The staff delivered -- Sister Hardy and Reverend Carter Peoples were gems -- they got us through the tough moments and lifted our hearts as we prepared my father's homegoing.

I did not receive a call back. By now, I'm extremely frustrated. I spent 15K for my father's plot with no niche and no response. I called back a second time and asked my call to be elevated to a supervisor or someone that can assist me. I spoke to Melissa - she was extremely communicative and responsive, or so I thought. I paid 1.6k for the niche immediately and asked for estimated time of completion. Office's response on Jan 19th - "I have to wait for the file to get back from accounting then I can submit the order. It normally takes 10 business days to receive the layout for you to review. Once it's approved by your family, It takes 4 to 6 weeks for engraving to be completed. I should have the layout for you by the end of January." It is March 16, I just received the layout to be approved. This is far from the 10 business days, more like almost 2 months. I think the sloths at the DMV work faster and are more responsive.

During the contract preparation phase there were multiple errors, misstatements, and rewritten contracts by Denise. Mark, the supervisor intervened so we trusted them, hoped for the best, and continued through the process. We wrote them a check 10/2/25 (that was cashed 10/3/25), as full payment for our preneed selection. We were advised the "Deed" would be sent to us within 30-60 days. There was a 3-day cancellation clause that was signed during the preparation phase. After that period had subsided I started receiving a multitude of emails and phones calls advising I needed to (re)sign the cancellation clause. After comparing the new document to the prior one (signed) I realized Denise forgot to enter the effective date. So I signed it again, and sent it to her. Then I received additional emails about the same issue - blaming Adobe Acrobat Sign for not having me sign in the right place. That was finally resolved - and a moot point since the 3-day cancellation period had passed. It's now 4 months later, and I had to reach out to them to see where the Deed is since we haven't received ANY communication from them. Mark was apologetic, stated the office manager just completed it today, and they would be mailing it today. They emailed me a .pdf copy and the document is postdated to 1/31/26. I don't understand why when they have been earning interest and/or paying bills with over $7k of our money for 4 months. I would think it would be backdated to 10/2/25 or at least dated for today. Thank God we didn't need it between times. The repeated errors and lack of follow through is unacceptable. I can't blame the office staff because I had no direct dealings with them. But Denise and/or Mark should have followed through to assure a sale made through their area was successful and had been completed long before 1/22/26. The property is well tended to but they clearly need additional oversight in how to provide quality preneed customer service (from the signing of contracts to the mailing of crucial documents). Terribly disappointed. Can't recommend at this time.

I was looking at mortuaries, alone with an unfamiliar duty in an unfamiliar location. I finally turned to Yelp to see what was posted about mortuaries I'd looked at when David from Honor Cremations popped up to say he thought he could help me. I truly felt an instant feeling of safety and trust. Sometimes we're lucky enough to get guidance. David is kind, sympathetic and morale. I spent the next several years feeling secure for when the time came. One of the few things I was able to feel secure about. When my husband did pass in the middle of the night in the veteran hospital hospice, they knew to call Honor. Because it might take time for Honor to arrive, the hospital wanted to take my husband to their mortuary and I refused saying we would wait for Honor. I trusted them and knew he'd be in good hands and those feelings were right. The gentleman who arrived to take my husband helped the nurse prepare him so when he came out of the room he was draped in the American flag. With everything else my husband and I went through with the change in care facilities, finances, and just 'handling it all' as my husband's condition worsened over the years, David's honesty and compassion took this step off my shoulders. I have purchased Honor Cremation for myself, so our children have the confidence to know everything will be taken care of. Thank you David and Honor Cremations. Communication: From the very first call, I felt heard and supported. The Process: I found their approach to be very modern, transparent, and straightforward. There was never any pressure or "salesy" feeling, just genuine empathy and a focus on what my mother and our family needed. The Memorial: They helped us navigate the details for her memorial with so much respect. Everything was handled professionally, allowing us to focus on honoring her memory rather than worrying about the logistics. I am so grateful to have had their guidance during this time. If you are looking for a team that treats your loved ones with true honor and provides a seamless, compassionate experience, I cannot recommend them highly enough. I also really appreciated the honesty in their business model. I know it could technically be cheaper if they did every single thing in-house, but they intentionally use outside sources for certain steps to ensure everything is handled by specialists. I actually felt like I got more value this way because I knew I was getting the best possible care at every stage. It's also worth noting for other families that they don't have an embalming service; they focus purely on a dignified, natural process which was exactly what we wanted for my mom. I am so grateful to have had their guidance during this time. If you are looking for a team that treats your loved ones with true honor and provides a seamless, compassionate experience, I cannot recommend them highly enough.
