When my partner upgraded us to VIP tickets for a show at House of Blues I was skeptical if it would be worth it. But it totally was! The Foundation room was stunning and unique. Going upstairs the walls are covered with beautiful quilted fabric. Upon entering you are greeted by a shrine to Ganesha. The bar area is full of dark wood, stained glass and features a fireplace. The whole ambiance is one of luxury and comfort. There's also an outdoor area overlooking the street if you want views of the city or to get some fresh air. The only letdown was the food. We ordered appetizers and entrees. It took forever to arrive and my burger was dry and overcooked. I would recommend go for the drinks and the ambiance not the food. read more

We purchased access to the Foundation Room as an add-on for a concert figuring it would be better than eating the crappy food from the House Of Blues itself. Unfortunately it was the same menu with the same crappy food. We arrived at were asked if we had a reservation, which we were never told that we needed when we signed up. Without the reservation we were allowed to sit at a wobbly high top near the stairs. The doors downstairs were open so the area was very cold. Service took forever even though we arrived 2 hours before the gig and their wasn't a huge crowd. We ordered the chicken fingers (because we are 5 years old) and their special sauce. They ran out of the sauce so dry chicken with "Catchup". The menu did not say they came with Fries so we ordered a second fry that never got eaten. The waitress told us they "keep telling the kitchen they are too salty but they don't listen". There is a sign in the upstairs bathroom saying half priced apps before a shop with your ticket. This only applies to the downstairs restaurant. Yes. The sign is in the Foundation Room bathroom! Dumb. Wine was was $12 a glass. My old fashion was absurdly priced $22.50!! Avoid this place at all costs!!!! It is not the high end experience that anyone would reasonably expect. McDonald's quality food at a huge markup. read more

Overall the service experience in the foundation room, as well as the quality of the food, was awful. I bought tickets to this show with single-night foundation room access months ago and was severely let down. I called the venue several hours prior to the show and was answered by a very friendly woman on the phone. I asked if it were possible to eat before the show in the foundation room restaurant with only single-night access, and she said yes, absolutely. "Just speak with the hostess at the dining room when you arrive." She went on, "you can try to reserve a table on OpenTable if any are still available, but they're definitely not necessary, as tables open up you'll be able to get seated." Great! Sounded like a fun night in store. We arrived, dressed up and ready to go before the opener even came on. We went straight to the hostess and asked about getting seated or putting our name in and she practically laughed in my face. She Said "unfortunately without reservations it won't be possible to dine in tonight, but we do have a lounge food menu and you're welcome to order off that." I said ok great, do I just order from the bartenders? Or from you? She goes "no, there is a server on the floor and he will come up to you. I'll let him know you want to order food." Ok, great. We got a couple drinks from the bartender and found a seat and decided what we were going to order from the lounge menu. It was then that I started to realize something was wrong. Servers never came up to us, and everyone in the room was complaining. One customer said they had ordered food over 45 minutes ago and it hadn't come yet, so he went to the server and said "I'm sorry I'm going to need to cancel my ticket man, the opener is coming on." Finally after a ton of waiting, we got the attention of one of the extremely frazzled servers rushing back and forth across a not-very-crowded foundation room. Told him we wanted to order food and he was like, "ohhhh, well. Just need to warn you. The kitchen is EXTREMELY backed up and food is taking awhile." I asked, how long is awhile? He said, "oh easily 30-45 minutes." I said well, is there anything that we can order that is quicker to make and will come out faster? He said "sure, the charcuterie plate will be out in less than 5 minutes," and apologized he didn't offer that to begin with. I said great, we'll take that, and a couple more drinks please. Well, the charcuterie plate took way longer than 5 minutes, closer to 20 in actuality. And our drinks never came. Asked a different server about our drinks and he said I'll have to tell your server. Then our server walked by again 2 or 3 more times and we finally flagged him down and said hey, can we get our drinks? He goes "oh, I'm sorry you guys ordered drinks? Remind me what you ordered again?" We reminded him, and asked for a couple napkins and some utensils since our charcuterie plate came with nothing. Finally got the drinks, still no napkins or utensils. Those came when we were almost finished with the charcuterie plate and the main act had started playing on stage. Now I'm pretty upset at this point. There were other patrons, including foundation room members who were complaining also. As to the quality of the charcuterie plate itself, it was really, really bad! The grapes were mealey and wrinkly, one of them was almost ready to grow mold. The yellow cheese cubes had a suspiciously high amount of white powdery stuff on them, that also kinda looked like mold. The salami looked absolutely like it was going bad, and it smelled bad too, so we didn't touch that, and the prosciutto was kinda dull and gray looking. All in all, there was a small amount of edible food on the plate that we reluctantly ate. Not acceptable for a $23 charcuterie plate. I've had better charcuterie from the gas station honestly. We couldn't wait to pay our bill and get the heck out of there. Still tipped well because, who knows, it probably wasn't the servers fault. It felt like bad management and understaffing to me. While I love some things about this place ....the fundamentals are lacking. The food is wildly overpriced for a strange menu with small portions that are disappointing. It seems they are having an identity crisis and are not sure what to serve? The service was very spotty in the dining area as well. So I guess I would recommend not eating here and going here only for cocktails and the pre party and post concert party. The place is amazing for this. No line, lots of bars, great places to cozy up and sit. Also have great DJs playing as well. The takeaway is.....super fun place for drinks and fun. Eat elsewhere. read more

I've been here twice for a show and it is definitely NOT worth the $30 supplement per ticket! (I seem to remember paying $20 the first time.) Yeah, it's cool-looking with the tapestries and the couches are comfy, but that's about it. We went to a show last week and there weren't many people in the Foundation Room. I noticed a waitress go to some sitting areas to take drink orders, but she didn't come over to us. The bartending area left a bit to be desired. I stood in front of the bar, clearly intending to place my order. The bartender talked to the two women by me and it'd be one thing if he was chatting while making their drinks - but they hadn't even placed their drink orders yet and he was talking to one of the women about her kids and her custody issues! Come on. Get your flirt on during your own time. I finally went to the other bartender once she was free. After the show we decided to hang out a bit and wait for the crowds to thin before hitting the T. There were three bartenders behind the bar and two had their back to me the whole time as I waited to place an order. They were going over something at the cash register while the one working bartender scrambled to fill drink orders. Also, forget about access to the mezzanine - you have to go one flight up! I'm not really sure what we paid $60 extra for. We definitely didn't feel like VIPs or "special." (Sorry, HOB, but I wouldn't promise that you'll "enjoy nothing less than rockstar status" to those coughing up $30 to sit on a couch and be ignored.) Made a reservation for after a show, which was confirmed in an email. When we arrived, they turned us away at the door claiming there were 2 private parties. Horrendous that a business would allow you to reserve a table then turn you away. It was a busy Saturday at dinner time with the Red Sox playing, and we had no other options at that point. The worst!! We went at 5:30 (with reservations) and they tried to sit 4 of us on two couches with a coffee table for dinner. We asked for a regular table and that was clearly a huge imposition (per the hostesses face and reaction when we kindly asked for a regular table). She was kind enough to accommodate us after a "meeting" with the manager (FYI...there were a ton of open tables). Once we were seated it took 20 mins to get our drink order and 40 mins to put in our food order (it was not busy). We ordered dirty martinis and they tasted like a glass of straight olive juice. One hour and 30 mins later we finally got our food...which was not entirely correct. The Mac and cheese tasted freezer burnt (to prove my point it was cold in the middle), the quesadillas tasted like old chicken (and cold in the middle) and the hamburger was completely over cooked. The waitress was nice but never came to check on us. My husband ordered a beer that never came but did show up on the bill. After dinner we thought we would grab a drink at the bar (not sure why) before heading to Fenway for our concert. The bar was not busy but it took at least 25 mins for the bartender to address us. When she asked what we wanted we started to place our order (4 very straight forward drinks) and she made a hand gesture like "yeah yeah what else"....we were so shocked and appalled. Not to mention the entire place smells of incense...like reeks and of it! No wonder this was the only restaurant with reservations available on a concert night! The Foundation room at Boston's House of Blues is a unique bar and dining experience un to itself. The atmosphere is subdued with a Buddhist and Indian decor. You can sit up at the bar or in a nice chair in front of a fireplace. There is a small dining room and a private dining area off the dining room which also has individual booths beautifully decorated. If you are attending an event at the House of Blues in Boston, I highly recommend spending some time in the Foundation Room. read more

This is based purely on the service/quality of beverages. If this review were based on the decor, it would be much higher but I have subscribed to the 'pig in a prom dress' philosophy. I went for the BYPA Masquerade ball last night which was actually quite lovely. Kudos to the group for a good night. While buying a round of drinks for my friends, the blonde bartender I worked with was pretty rude to me. I tried to make sure I didn't overwhelm her since I was ordering 5 drinks but she said to fire away only to be cut off rudely with an 'OKAY STOP' after listing about 3 drinks. Whatever, perhaps she was overwhelmed. Later when I go back towards the end of the night, I was ignored for about 10 minutes while the bartenders weren't actually serving anyone but rather putting glasses away. (none of which were used for my cocktails) The blonde from before finally comes up to me and says something. I tell her what I want then she walks away completely ignoring what I said. I eventually flag down another guy who basically throws the two glasses of water at me I asked for but ignored the order for the other cocktail I wanted. I was so fed up at this point, I demanded to close my tab and for the first time ever, didn't leave a tip. I understand there were a lot of people there but YOU'RE BARTENDERS IN FENWAY. You deal with this volume every weekend. The amount of people in the room was no more overwhelming than any other douchebag weekend in the Fens. There's just no excuse for service that bad in ratio to drinks that expensive. Also, any cocktail served in a solo cup should NEVER cost more than $7. NEVER. We visited the Foundation Room last week for a Miguel concert at the House of Blues. This was my first time visiting the Foundation Room, but I've been to HOB lots of times. I didn't try a ton of food, I only had the sweet soy tenders, which were flavorful and pretty juicy. The atmosphere was warm, chic and loungy. It was also hella dark in there which didn't help when I tried to get a good look at my food and the decor. Service was great, though. The hostesses were friendly, attentive and made sure we knew where to go once venue doors opened. The bar staff (Bryson and Annabelle) were really cool and down to earth! They were friendly, attentive, and held great conversation while they worked. My time at the bar was great! Now for the downside. As a guest at the Foundation Room, why did it take security 5+ minutes after 7:00 to open the doors to the venue? I wanted early entry to get front row positioning, and had to squeeze my way into second row, and I just barely made that! Come on, guys! Come on. Patrons need a membership to get into the FR as is, should we not be treated like VIPs? I attended the FR to avoid the lines, and lounge in style, but for what we spent at the bar, we could have had a whole meal down stairs at Crossroads and still got in early if we timed it right, which I've done. We have had such horrid " in line" experiences at House of Blue AKA House of Rules, that we bought two passes to the Foundation Room. For 20.00 pp you get access to a very cool Middle Eastern decor multi room hot spot for food, libation and quick access to the Mezz level. This place is what I imagine the inside of a Gene's bottle would look like. Plush, dark/dim lighting, gold & earth tone coloring... very fancy. I was here for an event, which is probably the only way I will ever see the inside of this place... for events... because it is members only, and I think the memberships start at about $2,000. I will say for an event space, this is quite nice. Lots of seating, passed hors d'oeuvres were delish, and the staff was very helpful. This place can be a bit of a maze when you're heading back to the restrooms, so don't feel bad if you get turned around... a number of people (myself included) had to take a moment upon exiting to look around and regain bearings before heading back into the main room. Very cool space, and glad I had the chance to see the inside. I'm fortunate that I'm going to be attending an event here next month as well, and can't wait to go back! read more

August 2010 Wedding Reception Party. Great location on Landsdowne Street. Decor is Eastern with tapestry walls and statues. Lots of seating, lots of standing, nice bathrooms, friendly staff, full bar, great apps and desserts. There are about 4 different spaces to hang out in, which was nice as the live band was rather loud sometimes. Easy access to HOB downstairs, though we went to a hotel after wards to top off the night. Not sure I would bother being a member unless you have a good use for the space that year. read more

The ambiance was pretty cool, very over the top. It was nice to get out of JP and see something a little crazier. The rooms are like a maze, and I love how you can find private places to get away to. The DJ who was there the night I went really stunk, they actually played "jump around" by house of pain... in 2012.... I also found it a little awkward how it was really just dancing in the middle of the room, rather then a dance floor. +1 for free coat check (at least with the cover). That was highly appreciated in the cold Boston weather. The bouncer was actually crazy nice, A+ to him. He made waiting in the cold slightly more bearable. One of our bartenders was clearly enjoying his job and dancing along to the music which I got a kick out of, he was also super friendly. The drinks were waaay overpriced. This is Boston, not New York City. I understand we were at Fenway, in a fancier establishment...but the level that the drinks were prepared at were not up to standards for the price. It's basically the bartending skill of your local pub for the price of an upscale bar/restaurant. Between that, the dance floor, and the music, it's enough to strip the place of two stars. Being in Boston etc. the ambiance of this place is obviously what you're paying for so make sure you check out each little cubby in here. The only thing that I ate hat I would recommend, and I would say its a MUST get is the brisket sliders. They just seemed like they couldn't be bothered helping us. Which surprises me, because it seems like a sick place to work. Then they said we didn't have tickets... not the way to treat paying VIP guests. Except for one really nice hostess who got our tickets and VIP wrist bands, everyone else on the way in was terrible. Including the bar tender. Despite the bar being empty, she seemed annoyed and took way too long. No smiles there. I know we're not members, rock stars or part of their entourage, but come on. Don't let miserable people ruin a cool and unique spot in Boston. We don't have many places like these! It's alright, I really dig the hallways to hidden-like rooms, but the bar staff can be hit or miss. Sometimes great, sometimes a real pain in the you know what. The food is good either at the restaurant or the apps available otherwise so that is a saving grace of sorts. But here is why they get two stars. In my opinion, Boston's foundation room is one of the weakest in the chain, it's alright, but it's not excellent. And, if you become a member, Boston has it's "own" pricing tier. Their beginning membership fee for local Foundation room access is actually $250 more than the Second Tier membership fee of the other Foundation Rooms which give you nationwide access to all Foundation rooms. So, tip to the wise, if you decide to become a member, do it at another House of Blues, as you will get National access to the foundation rooms, including the Boston room, for the price of just getting local access here. So they get two stars because it's random if the staff is going to be nice, and because their pricing tier is obnoxiously snobbish and gouging in it's approach. read more

I was lucky enough to join my girlfriend last night at The House of Blues in Boston. I wasn't feeling well, but decided to go anyway. What a good decision! We parked feet from the golden doors, and entered into a world of cool funky goodness! Jim Belushi, Johnny A and the Uptown Horns, James Montgomery Band, members of Boston, Santana, Aerosmith, and the Joe Perry Project. What!!!!!!!! What a joyous overload of talent! Yes please, I'll have more! More they did, one pulse slamming, chest resonating performance after another. The Music, atmosphere, and people watching was exquisite! We had come for the Greta van fleet show and we were able to skip the line, have some drinks, and get into the venue before the gates opened! The Foundation Room is a beautifully, appointed and comfortable room that is part of the House Of Blues in Boston. It has an Asian/Indian theme and includes some antiques that are thousands of years old. Some of the walls have been adorned in a tapestry of scarves - just beautiful and elegant. Private dining is available here, as well as function rooms for use by foundation members. There are a myriad of sitting areas - in front of a fireplace, couches, curtained off dining tables, etc., as well as a bar for those with access to the Foundation Room. My wife and I got a chance to check it out courtesy of one of the Foundation Room hosts, Jonathan Lewis. You could not ask for a better ambassador for the experience and the foundation. He was kind, funny, outgoing, and incredibly helpful and generous with his time. And most of all, he was wonderfully welcoming. This is a man who really knows the meaning of service, and, at the same time, we came away thinking that we made a new friend. While for a number of reasons, we won't be becoming a Foundation Member (which allows a slew of benefits), you can get in the room for the evening for an additional $21.50 per ticket. If you want to feel a bit special while attending a concert at the House Of Blues, I highly recommend it. read more

I would not pay $2500 per year to become a member of the Foundation Room, but the Foundation Room sure is a wonderful place to frequent (free after certain HOB events and if a member invites you). I came here after the Remember Haiti Concert/Fundraiser at the HOB and just had a great night. Some of the performers at the Haiti concert initially played a short set, but then a DJ came on board (more hits than misses with the songs he spun). And it was fun to dance on carpet! Drinks were good but most notable for the generous portions. The space is gold and red lush, lots of rooms and nooks, ornate chandeliers, low couches, Hindu sculptors, South Asian art and tapestries. This place evokes a certain level of intimacy. You feel almost like you are at a party at someone's home, albeit a very ornate and well decorated home, just dancing and hanging out with a group of friends. I must befriend a member, so I can come back here very soon. read more

As a current Foundation Room member I would like to share my opinion of the venue and staff. My membership has been by far, worth every penny of its annual dues. From the first inquiry that I made to Jonathan Lewis (VIP host) about the Foundation Room Membership my experience as been stellar. I have been thoroughly impressed and well taken care of each and every time I attend an event at the House of Blues. Jonathan Lewis has been the ultimate VIP host. He has gone above and beyond my expectations to treat me like a greatly valued, VIP during my dining experiences as well as my attendance to the many, many concerts at House of Blues every year. He has made my guests and I feel like royalty during every visit. I enjoy my membership but without Jonathan's superb hospitality and attentiveness I can honestly say that I would not have continued to renew my membership annually. I went to a show at House of Blues and the Foundation Room last night with five of my friends and we all had a great night. The Foundation Room has a really cool lounge-vibe with a cozy feeling, and the decor is beautiful. The bar is nice, there is also a restaurant, but I did not try the food there. This is my first time at the Foundation Room and I will say that I would definitely go again because of the excellent experience we had. Jonathan provided exceptional customer service to me and my five friends, he remembered all of our names and was personable, funny, kind, and helpful. He is the reason that I am writing my first review on Yelp! And he is also the reason that I will recommend The Foundation Room to other people. He's a gem! I have been to the HOB Boston a few times but this was my first visit to the foundation room. We were in town for the weekend and some friends invited us to join them. We were very impressed with the vibe and decor. However, we were blown away by the staff. One staff member in particular, Jonathan. I talked to him a few times and was very impressed with his professionalism as well as his willingness to help in any way possible. He seemed to know every answer about anything in Boston. I watched him handle different situations with kindness and respect. I am a smoker and I stepped outside several times and saw him in action. He called me by name every time. I decided to test him so I saw him introduce himself to someone and waited 30 minutes or so and asked him there name. Of course he remembered. He was the highlight of the evening for me and I hope HOB realizes what a gem of an employee they have! read more

This place is really cool. Impeccably decorated and it really has a cozy feel. Most of the staff is really friendly and attentive, and if you can get in here for an after party after a show at the House of Blues, you just might bump into some of your favorite artists. The drinks are pricey and there is a cover charge usually but they also have live music some nights which is fun. The atmosphere and proximity to House of Blues is why I'm giving them four stars. Plush couches and ottomans, a cozy fireplace, interesting wall decor that makes you want to run your hand along it to feel the texture, beautiful rugs and fabrics, and best of all, flattering lighting. Having been to the Foundation Rooms in New Orleans, Chicago and Los Angeles, I had a few clubs to compare. Handwoven gujarat covers the walls of all FDR's. It's beautiful and a trademark. "Torrey M." has posted some lovely photos - but not of the club in action. Though I am not a member, I was able to pay + $20 on top of my show ticket to gain access to the FDR. Interesting feature considering basic membership is $5,000 per year for one (1) cardholder. My friend and I dressed up, business casual. We figured there was a dress code. Not the case at this club. Several people wore flip flops, shorts/jeans and baseball caps. I realize this club is focused on the Red Sox, but it was not a game night. Nice & cute bartender, but when I ordered a Singapore Sling, what I got was gin + simple syrup. Wishin I could've brought a go-cup from Eastern Standard. I came to the house of blues here in Boston and having worked at the one in New Orleans and Los Angeles wanted to check it out. Had a great time with friends in the foundation room and Megan Simmons was our waitress who took very good care of us. We were a rowdy bunch but she was a pro and we will be back and will request her next time. It's people like her that I am happy to pay my foundation room dues. read more

We were waiting in the block-long line for Dada Life last night, with all the newly-minted college freshmen (that's what you get when it's an 18+ event) and a very nice lady pulled us out of the line and directed us to Foundation room. That probably saved us 30 minutes of waiting. 30 minutes we spent drinking. The drinks were not, as many reviewers have mentioned, at all expensive for Boston -- especially on an event night in a venue. We were able to hang out in the uncrowded mezzanine area, and when we felt the need to get right in the middle of the floor, the stairs led right down to the GA area. Definitely the best HOB experience I've ever had, and I've been a dozen times or more. read more
