Walking down the street, you would never guess that behind the window display of wigs hides a magical cocktail experience. Using entering we were greeted warmly, as the hostess explained that their seating is designed to encourage conversation. Two lush sofas arranged across from one another with a glass table between them, or one sofa across from two chairs. Swanky, classy, and perfect for a date night. The outside window is neon framed featuring wig clad mannequin heads and no hint of the bar inside. We walked in and were seated in a conversational area with a shared table meant to spark conversation. The menu is very fun and lengthy. How do we choose!? The table across from us has a glowing glass and a cocktail served in a tea cup, everyone is excited to see what their choice will look like. I decided on the Fluffy Frothy Inflatable Tubemen and my friend ordered Derek's Bramble mocktail. Hers was impressive and very tasty. So fun!! I would have walked right by here if it wasn't for Yelp. We actually did the first time and then circled back when the bar we were planning to go to was too crowded. We came in December and this bar was lovely and festive for the holidays. Loved their 60's inspired holiday drink menu. The hostess is super clear on the "rules" when you walk in. No more than 90 minutes and you can only sit on the couch, another party may sit across from you. The couch was a little tight on one side for three people, but we made it worked. Walked in on a Monday night and it wasn't busy but it also wasn't dead. I was actually shocked by the amount of people there for a Monday at 830PM. The person who sat us was very informative, letting us know where the bathroom was and politely letting us know that we only had 90 minutes. We were sat kind of near the door at a shared table but no one ever sat across from us. It did take a kind of long time for our server to greet us but after we ordered, she did check on us quite a bit. I think the service was a bit cold but that's ok. The drinks made up for it. All the cocktails we ordered were well balanced and delicious. There was a good variety on the menu and they can of course do your basic cocktails with their full bar. I love the fun hair themed accessories on the drinks. I also LOVED that the drinks actually looked like the drawings in the menu. Super cute and fun. However, you should know three things: 1.Reservations are required 2. Beignets are no longer offered 3. There's a 90 minute seating limit The beignets and drinks were the only reason I came to this place. Annnnnd baby!!! They weren't on the menu. Which was a huge disappointment for me! I ordered the upstaged Margarita with a delicious whipped cream. The actual name slips my mind. For small bites, we had the potatoes that were fried and drizzled with two different sauces. Such a fun speakeasy! We stopped in after a conference to grab some drinks and a small bite. The vibe was old hair salon (with a wig shop on the outside) . Servers were friendly and you get 2 hours to enjoy. Drinks were tasty and creative. Been here a couple of times and it never disappoints. They have a rotating menu, and they keep some of their most popular drinks the same. They have food to but haven't been so cannot speak on that. Drinks are around $18-$20 which is similar to prices nearby the Boston Common. They sometimes have a wait to get in but you just put your phone number down and they'll text you, which usually doesn't take long. Service is always friendly and the ambiance is sooo cute! Cocktail options are fun and creative, though around our table of four we found them on the lighter side, often leaning heavily into added flavors and sweetness. It felt more like the focus was on making them approachable and playful rather than really showcasing the spirits. They were still good, just seemed crafted with a broader, maybe slightly younger crowd in mind. We went to wig shop on a Tuesday night, so there was no line. We had tried to go once on a Friday, but it was too packed and for good reason. Wig shop is a speakeasy and it wasn't entirely clear what it was going to look like from the outside. The inside is really cute and intimate, with comfy couches and chairs. You have to sit facing another party, which was interesting, so be prepared to make friends! The drinks here were by far some of the most creative and best I've seen in the Boston area. Lots of times, places experiment with drinks and they aren't quite that good, but everything we had here was top notch. The star of the show was the Yo-Soy. Served in a soy sauce bottle, the drink has soy sauce, sesame oil, and blueberry. It sounds crazy but it is INCREDIBLE! I am still thinking about this drink. I also had the 2-4 cut time which was a really well balanced mezcal drink. We also had the patatas bravas which were really good! One of my new favorite places in Boston! A true speakeasy and I love the concept. Their drinks seem like weird concoctions on the menu that you don't always know will work, but I tried the gin-based cocktail with coconut, chili oil and cilantro oil and it was surprisingly delicious! Beautiful presentation too! We also got the fries and popcorn chicken to snack on, both of which were great. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the chicken, some of the best nuggets especially considering food is not their main focus. Knowing I would be staying for a couple of nights at the Omni Parker House downtown, I did some Yelp searching to see what speakeasies or cool cocktail bars would be short in distance to check out. I discovered one called The Wig Shop, whose front looks like an inconspicuous retail store with a window arranged with wigs and a neon sign that read "Wigs." Needless to say, I was going to check this place out. Upon arriving in my Uber, I walked down the darkened street to this sketchy storefront with wig displays and a "Wigs" sign. I opened the crack-house-like door to discover the vintage-style speakeasy lounge with peach-like curtains separating certain seating areas. Upon being seated at one of the cozy revolving chairs, we perused through the menu that's designed like a 50s wig design magazine but showcases all of the cocktails and eats that they have available. For my money, the Coco Brutta was class with lovely tropical vibes, served with Coconut Cartel rum, Faccia Brutto, chai, pineapple, coco cream & lime. Additionally, my wife and I split an absinthe drip with St. George, which was quite magical -- something I hadn't experienced in a minute and was glad to have the opportunity again. The establishment allows typically 90 minutes to enjoy your time at the speakeasy before needing to make room for the next parties that may be waiting up front. The Wig Shop is definitely a place to check out if you love cool speakeasies that hide behind unassuming, inconspicuous storefronts that look like you could get robbed in front of... but not, of course. read more

The atmosphere was laid back and we were enjoying our time. Then we started having issues with our food order. We ordered beignets at the same time as our drinks yet other patrons who sat down much later than us got theirs in a timely manner. After multiple check-in with our waiter we finally got our beignets. Unfortunately, despite being almost burnt on the outside the inside was completely raw. Finally got to try this spot out this past weekend & it didn't disappoint! They quoted a 45-1hr long wait, but it only took around 30 min. The space is small inside but I love the vibes. All the drinks we got were good, my fave was the Cinemax after dark. We got the burrata flatbread, which was delicious and perfect for sharing. I also got a wagyu slider and could have eaten 10 of them lol. They do seem to take the 90 min limit somewhat seriously, but that was enough time for us and I didn't feel rushed. Also, the decor and interior is really nice but I feel like they didn't play into the name The Wig Shop. The menu, on the other hand, is top tier. It was easy to kill this time by walking nearby, and when our time came, a very friendly staff member brought us to our couches/seats. The place is pretty small, but seems like it fits a good amount of people, and each table is divided by long curtains which helps it feel more intimate. Their menu has plenty of drinks for people of all tastes, each with a unique spin. The two drinks we tried were amazingly delicious, sweet and tasty! We also tried the absinthe for fun, which was an interesting experience with the large water dispenser and sugar cubes. Absinthe isn't for me, but I can see how the way it's served entices people to try it! We also tried their patatas, not expecting much. But surprisingly, I think their patatas are the best in Boston!! They were slathered in a yummy sauce and fried perfectly, I could've eaten them all night!
