Heard the dj was good so I popped in. John was an excellent bartender and provided great suggestions on places to visit while in Boston.

We had some drinks there, but the waitress made it clear from very early on that she thought were weren't consuming enough. She was very passive-aggressive, asked us every 3 minutes if we were still OK (i.e., if we wanted to order more, even though we hadn't finished our drinks yet), and when we wanted to leave and asked for the check, she suddenly let us wait for 30 minutes before she brought the check. I understand that they want to maximize their tip, but this kind of behavior is a bit annoying. Won't go there again. read more

However, it was more of an older crowd and the DJ would not play any new or popular music, mostly very old r&b and older throw back music. I am SOOOO bored of being ripped off. Since the pandemic it seems that we're all supposed to bend over and take it. The drinks in this place are comically overpriced. Ordinarily I don't mind paying for a really nicely crafted, interesting cocktail. But how about a gin and tonic for $21 ??!? Adding a tip gets you to $25 for a shot of Bombay and splash of tonic. That's insanity. This will be one of these cases where they price it based on nobody expecting it to be that ridiculously expensive, and only finding out at the end of the evening. I stayed at the W before moving to Boston and I remember this place wasn't very crowded or busy but then it was a week day night. I happened to go here on a Friday night with couple of friends and it was pretty crowded. the interior and decor is simply beautiful and feels upscale. Slightly expensive but kind of expected for a downtown lounge. The cuke zero was very sour bc of lime and tasted like a detox juice with alcohol. If you are into sour drinks, it may be a good choice and also strong. I also tried the cocktail with blueberry (I believe blueberry rush? ) that was too sweet with a lot of ice and not as much alcohol. Overall, I enjoyed my experience though. Came on Saturday night before dinner elsewhere and the Colin Jost show at the Wilbur. I was early, so I sat at the bar by myself while waiting for my friend. Maybe my expectations were high because I've ordered decent on-menu drinks here before. Maybe it's because they charge high drink prices or because it's the frickin W and the standards SHOULD be high... But when I asked the waitress for a Bees Knees and she had no idea what I was talking about, my heart sank. A Bees Knees is literally 3 ingredients: gin, lemon and honey syrup. I make these for myself at home, but was in the mood for one. If the bar didn't have honey syrup, that's one thing. But for the bartender to have never heard of it...? Stop it. I was so internally turned off that I decided not to let this person mix anything for me and went with glasses of sparkling rose instead. Don't get me wrong - all of the bartenders seemed perfectly friendly. But when you have decent liquors on your list and you hire people that don't know the basics of what to do with them - what a loss. read more

I'm reading the other reviews and I don't agree at all. Went into Boston for a show with my son (special night) and made a reservation for us for dinner. Never told me the restaurant wasn't even open on Monday nights so we had to go into the lounge. Drinks good....long wait for service. They were very nice but slow. Small menu and not what we were looking for. My biggest gripe.....who picked out the furniture. Looked like the Jetsons live there, but so ucomfortable. I saw two couples trying to navigate the booths and the seats are so wide they had to schootch forward to meet their food. For me it was very disappointing. The valet was a sweetie. read more

Ambience: Great atmosphere for a lounge. The decors and fireplace is very chic for drinks. Food: Parmesan fries were fantastic. Very flavorful. Overall Service: There's hardly anyone working on the floor. When you do manage to find someone to order, they disappear because we ended up with a different person throughout the time we were there. And when you manage to spot them, you'll find them in groups chatting by the register which makes absolutely no sense because you should have a host there and all waitstaff should be manning certain areas or tables and actually working. I gave the W Lounge 2 Stars because of the DJ and the ambiance. I attended a birthday party where I was told that half of the W Lounge was exclusively reserved for the birthday guests. Nope! We only had the high table which seated about 10-12 ppl. Apparently, the manager double-booked and could not do anything about it; not even sure if my friend received compensation back for this mix-up. Nevertheless, the DJ played some nice tunes and the ambiance was beautiful. The drinks were wack which was disappointing because if you're paying $20 for one drink, it SHOULD BE THE BEST COCKTAIL EVER! I will keep this simple and to-the-point: The bartender was more interested in talking to the sexy waitress than taking orders, and when he finally did, he mixed and poured my gimlet with such sloppy carelessness, it had full-on ice cubes in it when he slid it over to me. Ice in a martini that costs $15? I don't think so. The drinks were weak and, while the menu was inventive, lackluster. The lounge and bar are gorgeous, of course, but it's all trend and lacks substance. We did have an order of calamari that was delicious but miniscule for the $18 we paid for it. Decided on a whim to spend our NYE here, we definitely didn't want to spend over the top money somewhere and not have a good time and this place was the best surprise of all. Was doing some instagram research on what was expected for NYE, Guest DJ, no guest list, no line and no cover...thats a winner for me. We thought, we would have a couple of drinks at the bar, do a little mingling till midnight and have a good time... Insider tip that we discovered that night...the main tables in the middle of the lounge all have "reserved" on them, if you ask a waitress nicely if your party can sit at them she will gladly let you until the table is sold, and if your lucky can stay there the whole night like we did. And all it took was just to ask! We ordered food, drinks, etc. did not have to pay the ridiculous price of having to pay bottle service just to sit there. The music was good, got amazing service from the friendly staff and got party favors! Pros - no cover, no line, amazing service, great good looking crowd, just ask! Stayed here for the first time when I arrived in Boston with my beautiful woman that I've known for 20 years. We were just kids when we fell in love. Not knowing what it was. I won't mess it up this time. When we got to the room, I was nervous. I didn't know if she was going to be disappointed in me, if I would ruin the conversation, or so much time had passed that we would realize that we both made the wrong decision. I grabbed her and kissed her after I put my luggage away. Made me think about the first time I kissed her when we were kids. How beautiful she was then and how beautiful she is now. How perfect it was kissing her then and how perfect it is now. We both knew we didn't make the wrong decision at this point. Everything with her was perfect. This was the most amazing time I had ever had. She is the most amazing woman. We spent the night talking for hours. I kept talking because I didn't want the night to end with her and I wanted to learn as much about her that I missed over the years. She won my heart the moment I saw her on this night and I will never forget it. She means the world to me and I am in so in love with her. Forgot to mention, there was a man in the building across the way spying on us for hours.it was a fun game at first, but got old looking out for him. My friend and I were early to Rumor, so we decided to stop by the W Lounge as I remember there's one in L.A. too. We decided to pre-game and get a couple of drinks until Rumor open. My friends stayed at the W when they came to Boston for my graduation and so on our last day we decided to celebrate at the W lounge. The music and ambience were both good and I liked how it wasn't crowded. There were a lot of people lining up outside, trying to get in but it seems that they were trying to control the number of people coming in. My friends and I got a table and our waitress was kindly and attentive. She made sure we all got our drinks and brought them out right away. The drinks tasted good too. *sigh* I am disappointed to say that Philip O. took the words right of my mouth! I'm not a spiteful yelper and don't just pass out one-star reviews like these. Actually, I was going to give two stars because I thought that my experience might have been a fluke. After reading other yelper's reviews, I am feeling my frustration all over again. Furthermore- why isn't the W Lounge management team replying to these reviews and taking action? Anyway, here goes. My mother and I were going to a show at the Wang (across the street, as is the Wilbur) at 8pm on a Tuesday. We arrived at the W lounge around 6:45pm. After 10 minutes of being complete ignored by all staff and not even knowing if there was a hostess working, we went to the bar to find someone who could seat us. Just a few minutes after sitting down, a server came to take our drink orders. We just wanted a glass of wine and a cocktail, and also ordered our food at that time: Salads and a cup of soup to share. We told our server that we were going to the 8:00 show and would like to be out by 7:50 or so. I will admit that Mom and I are power eaters... we can put away a Thanksgiving feast in 15 minutes, so we weren't worried about timing- we figured even if our salads took 30 minutes to come out we'd still be in good time. What happened next was incredibly frustrating. They were way understaffed or totally inefficient, or maybe even both. We had been waiting 30 minutes, and our drinks did not come. No one came to check on us or tell us they'd be right out. I visited the bar and spoke to the original server, giving her our drink order again. 1 hour till ShowTime. Hey- if they bring our drinks and food out now, we'll still be fine. No such luck 20 minutes later (a total of 50 minutes since we arrived) we still did not receive drinks, food, or acknowledgement. I don't think I've ever left a restaurant after ordering and not receiving my food... but there was no way we were paying $70 to shove a meal and drinks down our throats with just seconds to spare before the lights go out in the theater. This experience really put a damper on what was supposed to be a special evening for my mother. She doesn't live in Boston and was looking forward to a lovely dinner. Instead, we had to have a crusty pretzel from the Theater for dinner. I will not be giving the W Lounge my patronage. Get it together, guys. read more

The W Hotel (a luxury Starwood property) opened not too long ago, in late 2009, at the height of the economic downturn. Since then, it's gone through its ups and downs, but what's stayed consistent is its sexy, sleek vibe and hoppin' nightlife. Located in the heart of Boston's Theatre District, people often come to the W Lounge for pre-concert/pre-show drinks and appetizers. But it's also a late night scene, to soak in some swank and spirits. From the moment the W comes into sight (hard to miss with its distinctive purple glow that seems to radiate from the inside out), you'll be hooked. The lobby area a.k.a "The Living Room" is showcased in floor-to-ceiling glass, and boasts incredibly high ceilings. The best part is that you can see all the hubbub from the street -- you almost can't help but want to check out the scene and be part of the energy. The W Lounge is part of the lobby, which also houses the check-in counters, which are very minimalistic and modern. When you're in the lounge proper, you almost forget that you're in the lobby of a hotel. But that's not to say that there's a huge divide between the two areas - the two are connected by the metallic leaf design cut-out wall that spans the entire back section, from the entrance to the end of the bar. There's lots of metal throughout, but the industrial-ness was a nice contrast to the indulgent feel of the dim lighting and soft purple incandescence. The music was hard to hear because there was so much talking, but there was a good mix of rock/club/beats playing. The entire atmosphere was very dapper but not pretentious. There was also a good mix in the (mostly younger) clientele: an amalgamation of the after-work bunch, theatre-goers, and other trendy folk. There were lots of people lounging in semi-private seating areas, on plush sectionals, chaises, and chairs. Some of the sectionals were put together so as to form an almost-bed, which was cool. The aforementioned metal curtains served as stylish dividers between a few areas, but the bar itself was fully open to the rest of the space. That meant that the bartenders had an extremely large area to which they had to cater. They have an interesting selection of cocktails, all priced between $11-13, as well as your standard spirits. I'd recommend trying at least one of their specialty cocktails (blood orange cosmo used to be my favourite, but they don't have that anymore--sad face), but more than the drinks, come here for the posh ambiance... and try to come before 11 p.m., so you can grab a comfortable spot to sit! read more

meh is a great way to describe the highly anticipated - "hot" W lounge. I broke of my rules about going out to get into this place - no waiting in line. and we did, but only for about 8-10 minutes. Once you get inside you wonder - hmmm is that it over there? that's all there is to it? really? the place is littered with old men who think they are hot and are checking out the ladies, there are younger guys who also think they are hot and are too cool to talk to anyone. just not an overall fun scene. but the drinks were good - i will give them that. What does it mean when I say a bar is "packed in like a brief case"? Go to the Living Room bar at the W around 11pm on a Friday night and you will find out. Holy crap it was packed. That said, it is a new lounge in a new hotel, the W, and it is a nice addition to Boston nightlife. The bar and lounge seating area is very sleek and the music was good too...not to loud that one could not carry on a conversation. One downside was that the bar service was a bit slow and the cocktail waitresses were running around barely keeping up. First time here and I was confused if the lounge was actually the lounge. It is right across from the check-in desk at the hotel and looks like it could be apart of the lobby. The ambience is definitely fun and colorful but I was not impressed with the service. We were initially greeted by a great waitress as soon as we sat down, however, she was just covering for someone else. Our waitress, Molly, was not friendly. She was constantly in a hurry and very rude to everyone in our party. We were not rowdy, or loud, we were just there to grab drinks and have a good time. This place is so cool. I have only been here once, but within the first 30 seconds I thought to myself, "wow, I want to have my birthday here!!" The atmosphere is SO much better than any other bar I've been to. Far classier. (I really don't like all the Irish bars in Boston. They make me feel like everybody's trying to pretend they're still in college... which is kinda lame.) The decor is really modern and cool here-- there are really awesome curvy couches that are separated from each other so that each seating unit feels pretty intimate and not crowded up against each other, although the space is really small. There are walls with water running down them, and the lighting is cool and blue. It's really beautiful-- if I were rich, I would have a lounge designed something like this. It's a little small though & a wait to get in, and I can't remember much music, if any, going on. read more

Over the past year I've been to this lounge at least a 1/2 dozen times and it hasn't gotten any better. My biggest frustration, other than the ridiculous price of their drinks, is the service. The bar is small, but I've never seen a team of bar staff that does such a good job of ignoring their customers, most of which are SEATED AT THE BAR AND STARING AT THEM while they jabber about this and that. Come on, who is running this place? They always seem to be over staffed and no one seems motivated to do much other than hang out. Why should I have to ASK for another drink, etc.? Why, may you be asking yourself, do I go there when clearly I don't like it? One, I like staying at the W, so I'm not walking outside (in the usually crappy Boston weather) to get a drink or eats. Secondly, the food USED TO BE good when the restaurant Jean Georges was still open. Yep, Jean Georges closed and the hotel has no onside restaurant!!! My girlfriends and I came here and felt like we were part of an episode in Sex and the City. Yes, we looked fabulous and were dressed up for a special event. Yes, we sipped cocktails such as martinis and mojitos. And yes, we were looking around for Mr. Fancypants. We accomplished the first two, but not the third, which is fine, b/c we were headed to a gala afterward anyways. The W Lounge is trendy to say the least... dim LED cool colored lights, candles, couches, fireplace, which is the perfect setting for a romantic couple-y date place or for girlfriends out about town. It's definitely the place to just lounge. Literally, a great place to just hangout. Anyway, our server was great and super nice (but he also told us it was his birthday so that may have been a confounding variable). Small rooms, trendy bars playing non specific club type of music catering to an upscale yet somewhat glib crowd I actually like the New York Ws, both the Midtown and Times Square version.
